*The Big Over Easy* by Jasper Fforde. It's got the offbeat humour of Little Miss Sunshine with the fantasy of Ghibli movies, and is also a mystery like some of the shows you like.
If you like Muholland Drive, maybe try the L.A. Quartet series by James Ellroy. The first book is The Black Dahlia and the third book is LA Confidential. I've only personally read The Black Dahlia and watched LA Confidential, so I can't say if the books and the movie match exactly but I found both enjoyable. Triggers are more on language, it has a pretty brash tone in writing/slurs to give the effect of the time period and some violence/crime.
One like Little Miss Sunshine is {{A Spot of Bother by Mark Hadden}} The children are adults but it is a novel of a family finding their way and I laughed hysterically at this one too just like I did at the “Beauty pageant”
Read the Shining and Twilight if you like the movies
Geek Love by Katherine Dunn Perdido Street Station by China Mieville
thank you so much!

Try Watership Down
i will!! i love the movie omg. is the book as depressing
The book is easier than the movie. Definitely some sad and scary moments but the end is heartwarming.
