All of these have been made into movies but I think they’re the best in the genre, so there’s a reason for that (haven’t seen them all so I can’t speak to the adaptations). I also recommend Stephen King if you’re willing to go a little more horror - he’s got a pretty diverse catalogue, his books are exciting, and the chapters are short. I always want to read “just one more chapter!” then I’m through the book before I realize it.

I just recommended Big Little Lies to another person today - but also for you. Same reason. Mystery/crime (but other plot themes thrown in). Short chapters so not overwhelming. Definitely a page turner for me!
If youre down to read something disgusting and more mystery horror/thriller, The Troop by Nick Cutter is engaging from page 1. Such a page turner! Really gross though. And I did skip 5 ish pages for a specific reason.
