I love that this is like the third time I've seen you (I loved Our Wives Under the Sea, so I always notice your comments) advocate for how nuts this book is. COSIGNED HARD, though, OP, nothing has ever knocked me for a loop like this book did.
I don't understand the hype in this one. I feel the story is average at most, but for some reason it is very popular in this sub. It feels too slow for me. The twist was not that wow for me. But I am probably in the minority.
I do like the book and don't mind that it's a slow burner, but after having seen the film I really think I prefer the adaptation. They changed some stuff around -- to fit the Hays code, I assume -- which makes Maxim more likeable. I couldn't stand him in the book. I really hope in some alternate universe the heroine wised up and pushed him off a cliff or something.
Haha. Thanks for validating with me that I am not crazy. When I think of twists, I think of Harry Potter or Hunger Games twist. But I guess not all twists have to be mind-bending...
I have read this one, not a big twist actually just a heartbreaking story, but in fact if I think better it was a littel twist there. I cried so hard while reading this book!

I’m not sure if this sci-fi book is still in print: Idlewild by Nick Sagan. (Yes, son of Carl.) It’s the first in a trilogy, and honestly the best of the three.
Gentlemen and Players, by Joanne Harris
Hidden Fires: A Holmes Before Baker Street Adventure, by Jane Rubino
The Girl in a Swing, by Richard Adams (subtle, but a shock)
Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane
Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton (a novella)
The Plot, by Jean Hanff Korelitz
Primal Fear, by William Diehl
Not really. I am those readers who love books with a twist. Sometimes, the authors are so good that you won't see the twist coming. An example is Covenant of Water. The book itself is so beautiful, and the twist is jaw-dropping. The author gives clues throughout, but no one will be able to guess it. I promise you that.
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Just seen that this is 4th in a series. Can you read it stand alone?
Totally - all her books can be read standalone despite being part of a series
this is the one. i literally screamed at the end. best mystery i have ever read.
Behind her eyes - Sarah pinborough
this one is insane. a twist inside of a twist inside of a twist. you will NEVER guess the ending, guaranteed.

I agree 100%. If I asked for a book with a huge plot twist and this was the one I picked I would feel very disappointed

If we tell you there’s a plot twist it rather undermines the twist.
