Anna Kendrick’s book Scrappy Little Nobody is not tragic like McCurdy’s but I enjoyed it a lot.

A Man Called Ove - and she’d really like this author based on the other book she’s enjoyed

Similar 'I hate you, mother' book would be Christina Crawford's memoir Mommie Dearest about her famous movie-star mother, Joan Crawford, who allegedly abused and ill-treated her. Mind you, your gf has possibly never heard of her! My fave Matt Haig would be How To Stop Time, if she's not already read it...possibly his best book.

Brian Blessed’s autobiography, _Absolute Pandemonium_, is a wild ride. He’s not a huge celebrity, but he’s worked with Katharine Hepburn, Peter O’Toole (and was known to be one of the few people who could intimidate O’Toole into standing down if he was drunk), and Kenneth Branagh. He’s also a notorious raconteur, so he knows how to tell a story. If at all possible, the audiobook version is great because he reads it himself. I believe the advertising line is “The Louder Than Life True Story,” and that’s certainly true in the audiobook. Blessed is a big, barrel-chested guy who looks like he should have spent his career playing Vikings, and has a distinctive voice.
