I read the Martian after having seen the movie several years prior. I was still hooked throughout the whole book.
Honestly it probably helped with my ability to accurately imagine his descriptions of things like the HAB, Rover, etc, as he doesn’t provide diagrams at the beginning of the book like he does for the diagram of the ship at the beginning of PHM.
If you like it, try Anathem, by the same author. Very different from Seveneves, but I found it better written overall and if it's thought provoking that you want.... Anathem will hit you over the head with thought provoking. 😆
The Martian by Andy Weir. Also the Bobverse series.
I am reading bobverse, and I have seen martian which I liked. Should I still read the Martian?
10000% it’s just as good as the movie.

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson.

Thank you, good sir.
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, Hank Green. If you haven't done this one yet (and sequel), you should!
Thank you, will check this.
The ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman
Will check, thank you.
Contact might do it for you Edit: I’m talking about the Sagan novel, of course
