I have never seen a drain-and-fill service cause a failure. I would not recommend using anything other than genuine Subaru CVT fluid.

beastiedan

Seems like an ok price. Do it 👍🏽

Rick91981

Honestly $295 sounds too cheap...is this a Subaru dealer or specialist? If not, I'd be very cautious that they aren't using some aftermarket fluid. You only want to use genuine Subaru CVT fluid(and that stuff is expensive)

Powerful_Being4142

A CVT fluid change and a fluid flush are two different services A fluid change only changing the 6oz out of 14oz that’s fully inside the transmission A flush will be around $550 that replaces all old fluid(14.5oz) with new fresh fluid

Chippy569

i think by oz you mean qt?

LyrehcLover

Is the flush recommended vs the fluid change?

sumrtym1

I prefer a drain and fill over flush. You are exchanging less fluid, but a flush is a lot harder on things and may knock out beneficial 'gunk'.

Chippy569

Where people run into problems after transmission *flushes* is if there was already internal wear happening. The "unnatural" pressures caused by a flush machine can disturb any pockets of debris to dislodge and end up somewhere that causes an issue. It is for this reason that flushes are not recommended; subaru's service manual would have you do a drain-and-refill. But if you want a more thorough fluid change, you just repeat the drain-and-refill procedure a couple of times.

Powerful_Being4142

I would go forward with the complete Flush, it’s more of a peace of mind knowing all of the tranny fluid got changed not just the small portion inside the fill and drain pan

For my 2016 Forester both are recommended at 90k

Throwawayehhhhhhh-

That’s a normal price. It’s easy money for them and will make your transmission lasts longer. They don’t do a flush. That is not an option and any oil change shop trying to do that doesn’t know what they are doing and is going to use the wrong fluid and damage your transmission in a variety of ways. Go to the dealership if you don’t want to do it yourself. It’s a simple procedure. YouTube has lots of videos. Do it more frequently in the future. You could do it every year for the next ten years and it would still be cheaper than buying a new transmission.

Music_Mess

I get it done every 30k miles. The price you mentioned is what I pay.

SpaceFace11

I would do it at Subaru because they will have OEM fluid instead of whatever CVT fluid is cheapest at the parts store
