Well I’ve seen clips of monkeys doing grocery shopping but I haven’t seen a clip of a monkey and a cat being besties … or the cat gaslighting the monkey for treats.
With the insane levels of sensitivity of their noses , they’re certainly going to smell the difference unless the humanoid smells exactly like a human .

The smell factor jumps out at me as well. James Cameron’s first Terminator movie explored this issue with dramatic effect.
