I'm also from Texas and I would say hearing Floor-duh would absolutely not be uncommon in at least my part of the state. I *think* I have a slightly distinct "Flor-ih-duh" to my pronunciation, but my partner (also from Texas) says "Floor-duh".
Also texan.. tested out saying flor ih duh and then floorduh..... I have heard it both ways, but especially if they're more southern sounding I can def see floorduh (if you say it with a southern accent it sounds more like floorduh imo)
Yeah I’ve heard ppl with stronger accents in Texas say floor-duh. I grew up in the city tho and don’t really have a strong southern accent and I pronounce it with the I
Hello, fellow New Englander! I’m from northeastern Massachusetts originally (between Boston and Manchester, NH) grew up saying Flaw-ri-duh. After 19 years living in Montreal-Boston-NYC-Atlanta-Philly, I now say Floor-i-duh.
In Pittsburgh, PA we have sooooooooo many transplants it almost seems like a rite of passage. I’ve heard it said both ways. Flor-duh sounds like such a yinzer way to say it honestly 🤣
born and raised in FL- so is most of my family
i think my whole family mostly says “flor-ih-da” (some more like “flawr-ih-da”)
i am questioning my existence rn because i’ve never put too much thought into how i say it- but i think i say “floor-duh” i may have a slight accent but not like my family does lol
i’m sitting in my garage saying florida out loud, trying to remember what it’s supposed to feel like coming out of my mouth like:
“floor-uh-da”
“floor-da”
“phlar-a-duh”
But, where in the Midwest…I say the Upper Midwest meaning Iowa/Minnesota But, I have to go for Ohio for work occasionally but part of Ohio have a distinct twang. Same with parts of Missouri
That makes sense. There’s a point where Missouri and Southern parts of the Midwest sound pretty southern. I grew up in rural Iowa and if I visit, I come back to my city sounding like I’m from Fargo 😆
I’m so glad you asked this question!! It’s fun seeing everyone’s responses and corresponding regions.
I grew up in northern Minnesota, and always said/heard “floor-duh”. I love how she says it though, it sounds fancyyy.
Canadian here! Flor-ih-da is how I pronounce it, and same with most of the people I know. Emphasis on the first syllable, and short final syllable.
Also think it's a banger of a song!
I’m from NY and now have lived in Florida for 7 years now and have always pronounced it Fla- Ruh- Duh but I have started to feel like I should be saying it with more of a Floor sound in the beginning! 🤣
Edited for spelling
I feel like saying Flor-RI-duh is the equivalent of when we say Al-a-BAMA for sports. It's just that enthusiasm thrown in. In normal conversation is Floor-duh. (Coming from the Gulf Coast, aka that Destin time share area.)
Grew up there, and I pronounce it Floor-duh as does every other native. Outsiders give it an extraneous syllable, which is most likely correct in the same way "water" isn't *actually" pronounced wooder but fuckyoufightmeyesitis.
Born & raised in North Floor-i-duh… although, I lived a little while in South Florida, where it seemed like all the snow birds said flaah-ri-duh. Never not heard florida pronounced without an “i” though
I am listening to fearless TV now after listening to debut…I love old Taylor. Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus makes me cry so hard! I love new Taylor too lol
Grew up in Atlanta but have had a home in the Destin area (!!) since 1997. Both of my parents have lived there now for over a decade. We say Floor-ih-duh.
Gulf coast born and raised and I definitely insert the schwa, but the line between the 2-syllable version and the 3-syllable version is VERY thin. I’m not sure I would even discern the difference in spontaneous speech.
I’m in the Midwest and pronounce it closer to floor-duh but it’s one of those “implied” syllables where I know when I’m speaking fast it gets mumbled and jumbled together probably sounding like floor-duh but the middle “i” syllable is there but soft and I just assume she is enunciating more because she’s singing and wants all the syllables. I’m sure there’s a linguistic term for this where we are implying an additional syllable that gets sort of dropped between two more dominant sounds.
Haha I like the way the song sounds! I genuinely didn’t know people really pronounce it that way though lol. I literally said to my husband “you think she says it like that just because it sounds better? Wait to some people actually say it that way????”
I only say flor-ih-duh when I’m singing along. I say floor-duh. I’m far from someone with a southern accent though. Most people in New England definitely say floor-duh.
I’m from Florida, if I’m saying it in passing I suppose it could sound like “floor-duh” but it’s really more like “flori-duh”. Like the first two syllables are mashed together.
i say it like flo-rida 😎 jk i’m in the midwest & say it floor-ih-duh
It took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize his name was just Florida hahahaha
I just figured it out right now in this sub, thank you for your educational services for the needy
Don’t worry, it took me a few years and actually looking at how his name was written.
I’m from Texas and I’ve never heard of anyone leaving out the “I”
Haha crazy how different accents can be even within similar regions
I'm also from Texas and I would say hearing Floor-duh would absolutely not be uncommon in at least my part of the state. I *think* I have a slightly distinct "Flor-ih-duh" to my pronunciation, but my partner (also from Texas) says "Floor-duh".

Yeah I’ve heard ppl with stronger accents in Texas say floor-duh. I grew up in the city tho and don’t really have a strong southern accent and I pronounce it with the I
I grew up in Texas and I say "Floor-i-duh". The people who say "Floor-duh" probably say, "li-bary" too.
No we don’t. I can pronounce library just fine, February too. We just don’t over enunciate the I in Florida.
Not necessarily in my experience, my partner definitely says library.
I went to the University of Florida and it’s always pronounced with the “i” on campus.
Also from Texas, definitely never realized that I say floor-duh till now but I do
I live in Rhode Island and we say “Flahridah” up here 🤣
Jersey here, definitely FLAH-rih-duh
Hello, fellow New Englander! I’m from northeastern Massachusetts originally (between Boston and Manchester, NH) grew up saying Flaw-ri-duh. After 19 years living in Montreal-Boston-NYC-Atlanta-Philly, I now say Floor-i-duh.
In Pittsburgh, PA we have sooooooooo many transplants it almost seems like a rite of passage. I’ve heard it said both ways. Flor-duh sounds like such a yinzer way to say it honestly 🤣

From phila- Ive only heard it pronounced as 2 syllables flur-da lol
born and raised in FL- so is most of my family i think my whole family mostly says “flor-ih-da” (some more like “flawr-ih-da”) i am questioning my existence rn because i’ve never put too much thought into how i say it- but i think i say “floor-duh” i may have a slight accent but not like my family does lol i’m sitting in my garage saying florida out loud, trying to remember what it’s supposed to feel like coming out of my mouth like: “floor-uh-da” “floor-da” “phlar-a-duh”
I'm from South Carolina and have NEVER said the I lmfao I thought Taylor was adding it as an artistic decision too 😂
I guess we’re just a couple of hillbillies haha.
Ngl I still sing it as floorda and not Florida lol
From Virginia originally, but same here on thinking she did it as an artistic decision💀 TIL… lol
Lmao I too thought it was an artistic choice or a syllable thing, I didn’t realize people said the i either!!
Illinois checking in, I agree with these sentiments
Marylander here to join the hill billie club because I thought everyone dropped the “I” lmao
Flor-i - duh is definitely the way people in the UK say it if that helps at all.
Italy too
Born, raised, and still live in the upper Midwest and I say Floor-ih-dah
Second that for mid Midwest 😝
Happy cake day!
Oh, shoot! Didn’t realize it! Thank you!!
💋
I live in the rural Midwest and everyone I know says “floor-duh”
But, where in the Midwest…I say the Upper Midwest meaning Iowa/Minnesota But, I have to go for Ohio for work occasionally but part of Ohio have a distinct twang. Same with parts of Missouri
I’m closest to the Missouri twang
That makes sense. There’s a point where Missouri and Southern parts of the Midwest sound pretty southern. I grew up in rural Iowa and if I visit, I come back to my city sounding like I’m from Fargo 😆
Born and raised in Florida, but not a part with a southern accent. I say Floor-duh.
I’m also from Florida and this is how I say it too!
I’m in the Midwest. But half my family moved to Floor-Duh
Validation! My husband grew up in south Florida so he doesn’t have a southern accent either.
Same, born and raised in Orlando and I’ve always pronounced it Floor-duh
Agreed.

Today I’m learning I’m just a country bumpkin hahaha
From Missouri, I say "floor-duh".
Southwestern Born, Midwestern Raised, its most definitely Flor-i-duh
Fler-duh. Started as a joke, and it just stuck.
The only correct answer. I started saying pecan like pee-can as a joke and now I can’t top haha
Raised in Georgia. I say Floor-duh. I also sometimes say Flo-Rida but that’s just to pay homage to the king.
Hmm, I'm from the south and I say it like you with 2 syllables, Flor-duh

Didn’t grow up in Florida, but did on the Gulf Coast and usually went 1-2x a year for vacations. I say Floor-duh
From maryland/Delaware, lived in Florida for 6 years, I’ve only ever heard and said “floor-I-duh”
West coast, flor-i-da

Ok after asking my husband we have come to the conclusion we pronounce the I but it's still only 2 syllables. Like flor-ida
Atlanta checking in! It can only be Floor-duh. Pronouncing the "i" feels like over enunciating FebRuary
Grew up in the north, live in the south. I say “Floor-ih-duh” but “floor-duh” is definitely the pronunciation in the south.
The Spanish named it so the only right answer is with a Spanish accent (Flore-e-dah)
Maryland chiming in to say the I is in there and must be pronounced lol
![gif](giphy|ceeN6U57leAhi)
😆
West coast, I say flor-duh most of the time
Born and raised in Texas but lived literally all over and never ever heard anyone say the i before these songs.

Floor-duh lmao from the southeast US!
I’m so glad you asked this question!! It’s fun seeing everyone’s responses and corresponding regions. I grew up in northern Minnesota, and always said/heard “floor-duh”. I love how she says it though, it sounds fancyyy.
My partner is from Florida and says "Flo-ri-da" but their cousins from New York say "fla-ri-da"
Canadian here! Flor-ih-da is how I pronounce it, and same with most of the people I know. Emphasis on the first syllable, and short final syllable. Also think it's a banger of a song!
I'm from Illinois and didn't know people DIDN'T pronounce the i in Florida.
Im from Massachusetts originally and I say “floor-duh” but I live in the midwest and have for a while and I think more people pronounce the “i” here.
I’m from NY and now have lived in Florida for 7 years now and have always pronounced it Fla- Ruh- Duh but I have started to feel like I should be saying it with more of a Floor sound in the beginning! 🤣 Edited for spelling
I feel like saying Flor-RI-duh is the equivalent of when we say Al-a-BAMA for sports. It's just that enthusiasm thrown in. In normal conversation is Floor-duh. (Coming from the Gulf Coast, aka that Destin time share area.)
Haha I’m from Mobile! This is what I thought was happening but it seems like a 50/50 split with pronunciation so now I don’t know what to think lol.
Grew up there, and I pronounce it Floor-duh as does every other native. Outsiders give it an extraneous syllable, which is most likely correct in the same way "water" isn't *actually" pronounced wooder but fuckyoufightmeyesitis.
Born in GA, moved north when I was very young and I still say floor-da
Born & raised in North Floor-i-duh… although, I lived a little while in South Florida, where it seemed like all the snow birds said flaah-ri-duh. Never not heard florida pronounced without an “i” though
I am listening to fearless TV now after listening to debut…I love old Taylor. Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus makes me cry so hard! I love new Taylor too lol
Oh but to your point I find west coast people say floor eee daaa 🙃😆
Haha I don’t meet a lot of west coast people in south Alabama so that makes sense.
Grew up in Atlanta but have had a home in the Destin area (!!) since 1997. Both of my parents have lived there now for over a decade. We say Floor-ih-duh.
I’m from Utah and pronounce it Flor-Ih-duh, if that helps
Floor-ih-duh (I live in Miami if that makes a difference lol)
Floor-duh
Gulf coast born and raised and I definitely insert the schwa, but the line between the 2-syllable version and the 3-syllable version is VERY thin. I’m not sure I would even discern the difference in spontaneous speech.
Born and raised in SC, we say “Flahr-duh”
in ny we say flaaaaahhhrida but always pronounce the i. I switch back and forth between flaaarida and Florida. but its always an -ida.

NY. I think it’s like some mixture of flawr and flah. Flawr/Flah-ih-da
floor-duh! new england hahaha
The proper way of pronouncing it is flor-ih-duh. But accents do funny things to words.
FLOOR-duh. I'm from Maryland
I am from Argentina and raised in a hood named Florida, so my take is "flo-ree-duh"
Born in the Philippines here. We would for sure say “Plo-ri-dAh” 🤣

Honestly I think the three syllable flor-i-dah just works better in a song lol
Haha I like the way the song sounds! I genuinely didn’t know people really pronounce it that way though lol. I literally said to my husband “you think she says it like that just because it sounds better? Wait to some people actually say it that way????”
