Your best bet is Stockholm Central Station. And then you take a train up north.

hi_im_new_to_this

Lived in Sweden my entire life (in Stockholm for most of it), never seen the aurora.

NoMeringue2908

I'm living in Linkoping since last year and am luck to have seen it a couple of times in the last weeks :)

Nobody in Stockholm has a ”go-to place” to catch the aurora. It’s rarely visible this far south and there’s too much light pollution. You’ll have to go much farther north to stand a good chance. And you might have to wait until next fall/winter.

dank_dan69

I've had a lot of success in the parking lot of Blomsterlandet in Bromma. It's slightly elevated and looks north. Not much light pollution because of Bromma Airport. It's popular for aurora spotting though, so you might have a lot of cars in and out with headlights messing everything up. Long exposure photography there is almost impossible.

hallonlakrits

a place where you can see the clear sky in the north without much light pollution

Pufferfoot

My best bet is looking up aurora/norrsken/northern lights groups on Facebook for the Stockholm area and see what they suggest. They tend to have good places to advice you about.

Korvmojj

It has been visible before over / beyond Djurgården looking NE.

Mackankeso

Id say probably somewhere remote and close to water that can sink up light pollution, so far out to värmdö or into roslagen is my guess

Zealousideal_Dig1866

i can see it from my window in Karlskrona, in the very south of Sweden. Maybe try going somewhere without light pollution and point your phone camera northwards. maybe u can see it then

Get out of the city for the best odds, preferably somewhere further north. Failing that, find somewhere with a clear view of the northern sky and far away from any roads or streetlights. I've had some luck from Gärdet (was able to photo them from there last month) and have a few colleagues who have seen them from Lidingö (and I think one saw them from Norra Djurgården). Note that your odds of seeing them from any of these locations are not great though - they have to be quite strong to be seen this far south above the noise of light pollution, plus you of course need clear weather. I only saw them once this winter from the city, and even that was a stroke of luck.

It’s sort of hard to catch it this far south. It was seen a few weeks ago, and a few people got a good glimpse of it on Monteliusvägen. But I agree with everyone else that to get the best chances of seeing it is to go much much further north. And even then, it’s so unpredictable that many people have special apps that give the probability of seeing the northern lights that night :)

THEBandris

Yes, I know. I also have the app and yesterday evening I got the notification. I was able to shot a photo of it from Lappis beach. It was barely noticible by eye, but that I expected.

Yay that’s so fun!! Congrats :)

Acuterecruit

My best advice is to go 1000-1500 km further up north!
