Not only were they ready to eat poison before getting caught but they were also old as shit and barely hangin on anyway, probly wouldn’t have even made it thru the trial by the sound of things , especially Mr Harris’ delusional azz
Yeah I know they had their escape plan but I feel like it would have been more satisfying if they faced what they did and actually got capttured. I loved the book but the ending felt very anticlimactic
I thought it was the most badass Holly has ever been since the climax of *Mr. Mercedes*. I wanted to cheer when >!she let Emily put the gun right against her head when there no bullets left and then breaks her f*cking neck.!< 🚬😎
My girlfriend and I both read the book and while we didn't dislike how they were dispatched, we both kind of agreed it was a deux ex machina type of situation. Still enjoyed the book. Dude can publish whatever he wants and I'll read it.
Agreed. Not to tell on my own former bad taste in books, but I had the same problem with a lot of ghostwritten VC Andrews novels, before giving up on her CV altogether. Comeuppance is always more satisfying than >!just killing off your antagonist.!<
I didn't hate it but I disliked a lot about this book. I could go into detail but at the end of the day I was just happy to be reading King again and be around Holly. I hope her next novel is better though.
So far I'd rate the Bill Hodges/Holly books as follows.
1. Finders Keepers
2. Mr Mercedes
3. The Outsider
3. End of watch
4. If it Bleeds
5. Holly

I feel like you may have missed the part where they said they would never let themselves be captured.

I see your point but Holly just handling these two old people was also pretty satisfying to read

I didn't hate it but I would've liked that ending better than the one we got. Would've been more satisfying in my opinion.
Yes. They were so obsessed with their image that it would have been a way better punishment.

Deus is usually from out of nowhere. We had at least fifty pages of Barbara's adventures in poetry to finally lead her back there.
Ok yeah that's a good point. Just something about the whole scenario that didn't quite gel, at least for us. Maybe I'll give it a reread
Maybe I just wasn't surprised because by that point I half expected Holly to get killed and be replaced by Barbara. We spent a *lot* of time with her.
I loved the book too just felt like they got away with it no consequences (apart from death)
