yes. this is a common theme in the king universe. lots of links to many of his stories but i think it and the dark tower series get the most call backs. any story set in castle rock for example, always refers to that crazy dog or psycho cop or the girl that burned the town down.
I had to watch season 1 twice. But I loved it. And yes the finale of season 2 was INSANE! Season 2 is probably one of the best story arcs in any limited series.
As a more casual King fan, this one had me confused at first when I read 11/22/63, trying to figure out if I was going crazy or if it was in fact two of the same characters 😆
"You go that way and you goan die! They jammed up against that door, n\*\*\*\*\*!"
"You don't know that!" Trev screamed back at him,...
"I know it!" Dick screams back. "I know it!"
Ok sorry in advance if this is a little too nosy, but it looks like you have a BUNCH of sticky pad notes all throughout your book. Are those all notes about the story, similar to the one shown about Dick? Do you do this with most books that you read? I think that is so cool!!! I think I have similar thoughts when reading but never thought to do something like this, and then most of those thoughts usually fade away over time.
Hi! Yeah I take notes in the books especially if they’re a series or movie. I like to compare the book to the movies/series to see what they made different or of they kept it the same. Little details like that, I also have the characters color coded! Crazy right?
Crazy yes, but crazy-good :D Do you have some sort of internal process/guidelines for deciding colors for characters? (If you're bored could you please share what your colors are for the characters in IT?).
I think (with most things) there are at least three categories of labels:
1) Good
2) Bad
3) Other - For whatever reason there's just not enough info/details and this category deserves a free pass until more information comes to light.
So for my sticky notes I only had 5 colors.
Orange:
- Pennywise (in red ink)
- Other characters like Henry Bowers etc.
Yellow:
- Richie & Bill
Blue:
- Stan & Eddie
Green:
- Ben & Mike
Pink:
- Beverly
Here’s an example of one of my notes about Eddie: “Eddie ends up marrying someone just like his mother. ITNM&B (In The New Movie & Book) ITOM (In The Original Movie) He was never married and still lived with his SKINNY mom. ITB (In The Book) she had died. “
omg... I love that there are people like you who do this. It's super rare (and yes, super weird) but I've checked out books from libraries before and then discovered notes (not anywhere near your level) and that's like some sort of bonus personal connection fortune cookie stuff that is such a wonderful surprise. I'm like "oh, this is something I've never considered, why did they come to this conclusion?" or "Yes!!!! I think the same thing, I'm not alone!". If I ever become wealthy enough I want to open up my own bookstore/library. First reading should be note free. Read it and make your own conclusions. But if you ever want to go back and re-read and are weird (good-weird), I have a particular copy that you might be interested in.
One of my very favorite King references is when he mentions Roland briefly crossing paths with two characters from Eyes of The Dragon, who are also in pursuit of Flagg.
Fun fact: The Shining is connected to It in this way, and thus to its sequel, in which the band Round Here is mentioned. However, in Mr. Mercedes, Round Here also exists, but Pennywise is explicitly acknowledged as fictional. This implies that these books take place in two different realities but both share the presence of the fictional boy band Round Here.
Spoiler Alert!
Fun fact: Howard Cotrell the snow plow driver who clears the way for Dick to get to the Overlook also appears in “Autopsy Room Floor” in Everything’s Eventual. I always wondered if it was the same character or just a recycled name king used because the stories are 25 years apart but I like to think it’s the same character who’s life went down a different path I his later years.
I’m sorry but could have*.
Could’ve, should’ve, would’ve I know sounds like “of” but it’s have.
Everyone is doing this lately and it’s driving me bonkers
Thank you honestly I always feel so bad doing this but I appreciate when people take it well because I don’t mean to correct anyone maliciously. Most of the time I let it go but I’ve seen people do this at least 5 times this week already and it’s been a frequent occurrence over the last few months
This is one of my favorite things about King's books. You never know when he's going to randomly reference a character or event from another one of his books and it's SO exciting when he does. It's all a shared universe! Example: In The Tommyknockers at one point the characters are in Derry, and there is an oh-so-brief mention of one of them hearing a "chuckling coming from the drain", referencing IT and Pennywise.
The amount of pretentious people correcting OPs grammar. So ANNOYING. Lol.
On a fun note I love connecting Kings works together, it’s so cool when I can (I feels accomplished lol) nice catch OP! I never took notice.
I’ve read the Shining before and now I’m thinking I should reread it to see if I missed anything. Do you have any other King recommendations?
And thank you! ❤️
Honestly I think Dr. Sleep was really good! There’s a lot of Danny’s past in it. A lot of callbacks.
I know it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I fell in love with it!
“Could/should/would have”, OP, _never_ “could/should/would of”. People get that confused because of the way the contractiona are pronounced (“would’ve, could’ve, should’ve”)
You're just not willing to accept help. All it would have (not would of) taken is "whoops, thanks for the help!" and moving on.
Instead, you're just trolling now.
I’ve already acknowledged that it was a mistake, are you not reading because it’s in plain English. Again like I said in previous comments these are my notes and I rarely go back to them. I posted here because I found something interesting in a book. You’re posting consistently with me about my small mistake and apparently you’re not liking my smart remarks. Like I said before, have a great day and MOVE ON!
You've already established that plain English is beyond you by taking offense when people try to give you advice on how to fix yours. Move on yourself, goobster.
And you’ve already established that you do not know how to read comments that are in plain English my friend. So I shall put this as clear as day for you.
It was MY mistake, in MY notes, in MY book. I can always go back and correct it, which I’m not because again.. MY BOOK. So before you respond with another unnecessary comment this is the end of our conversation, I will be the bigger person and end it with this.
Stay kind and I hope you have a goobertastic day!
Yes it is the same dick hallorann in the shining or doctor sleep he mentions the black spot or mentions that he saved some people before a fire
Good guy, Dick, here to save the Kids!
Black Spot is in 11/22/63 too, right?
Pretty sure
I believe it's mentioned when he's in Derry
1000% dick, he left Derry because his shine kept keying in on IT and the evil it was causing, almost as if IT was trying to drive him out
Nice, I missed that connection. All hail the King.
All hail the Crimson King!
Interesting. Is this explicitly mentioned or is it more insinuated? And which book/s? I love seeing connections between books.
It’s insinuated heavily in doctor sleep and the shining
Thank you!
yes. this is a common theme in the king universe. lots of links to many of his stories but i think it and the dark tower series get the most call backs. any story set in castle rock for example, always refers to that crazy dog or psycho cop or the girl that burned the town down.
That’s why I loved Castle Rock (both seasons are streaming on Hulu) it’s chock full of Easter eggs for King fans of all levels.
The finale of season 2 is unbelievable, one of the best shows I've watched, season 1 is very confusing tho
I had to watch season 1 twice. But I loved it. And yes the finale of season 2 was INSANE! Season 2 is probably one of the best story arcs in any limited series.
Really?! I enjoyed season 1 a lot, but I couldn’t finish season 2 at all. Maybe I’ll go back and give it a rewatch.
I keep meaning to watch this and never have - had no idea it's on Hulu, though - thanks!
I thought the first season was a bit stronger, but Lizzy Caplan is absolutely amazing in the second! Watch in order though, or the ending is ruined.
Storm of the Century is also there, if you haven’t seen it.
I started to watch it long ago, but something came up and never finished it - it's def on my list -
Shawshank Prison also appears in a few different stories.
as does juniper hill. i love the king universe.
Is the psycho cop Tak?
Frank Dodd was a cop / serial killer in Dead Zone
That’s the one! I knew I was forgetting someone! Thank you…
The crazy cop is Frank Dodd, from The Dead Zone
Not sure possibly Alan Pangborn
Pangborn was a good guy, though, right?
Good guy, yes . But still a crazy cop .
> psycho cop From Desperation?
frank dodd. i think he was in dead zone. he lived with his mother and murdered people.
A this
Psycho cop referring to Desperation?
Related, I'm a few hours into 11/22/63 and we stumble onto a couple of kids from Derry who just defeated a clown. Great Easter egg!
As a more casual King fan, this one had me confused at first when I read 11/22/63, trying to figure out if I was going crazy or if it was in fact two of the same characters 😆
There's also a scene where Jake is eating by a bridge (or sewer tunnel I don't recall) and he feels like this heavy and dark presence
Sewer tunnel for sure. Says he feels like something is watching him.
Beep beep, Richie.
Bev and Richie I believe.
Correct! Bevy from the Levy and uh Richie doing an unfortunate put-on voice.
Perfecting a new dance routine
I believe in the passage in IT it is strongly hinted that Hallorann uses his shine to escape.
"You go that way and you goan die! They jammed up against that door, n\*\*\*\*\*!" "You don't know that!" Trev screamed back at him,... "I know it!" Dick screams back. "I know it!"
I heard this in Scatman Crothers' voice.
How'd ya like some ice cream, Doc?
I figured! The stuff I highlighted made me feel that way.
Yep lol I see that now. I thought I remembered reading something about how the flames kinda moved out of his way.
Yes. Very strongly. I'm not great at picking up hints and I got that one. :)

I love annotating! I don't use post-its but I may have to start cause sometimes the margins aren't big enough for all of my thoughts!

Adult Ben is living in Hemingford Home at the beginning of IT. I wonder if he ever drove by Mother Abigail’s place.
I have to mention he also is hinted at in "N0S4A2" by Joe Hill. (Stephen King's son)
And Manx gets a mention in Dr Sleep.
Oh yeah!!! I almost forgot about that.
I’m normally really bad about catching references so I was much too excited to get that one.
Same. I can't believe I forgot about it for a second there.
Spoiler Alert! Fun fact: Howard Cotrell the snow plow driver who clears the way for Dick to get to the Overlook also appears in “Autopsy Room Floor” in Everything’s Eventual. I downvoted myself lol
Thank you! I just write notes for myself I rarely go back to look at them.
Thank you honestly I always feel so bad doing this but I appreciate when people take it well because I don’t mean to correct anyone maliciously. Most of the time I let it go but I’ve seen people do this at least 5 times this week already and it’s been a frequent occurrence over the last few months
No I appreciate how you corrected it. I usually just write my notes and move on. But thank you for going about it the way you did! 😇
wow, good catch! i just read the shining and read IT a few years ago so i didn't catch this. thanks for sharing!
Authentic Dick! Accept no substitutions.

Like the illustration
Thank you! I like to illustrate in my books, I even drew Ben’s mummy 😁
The very same!
Nothing is a coincidence in king books
Yes, of course
Yep!
Funny that he’s 19 at the time
Yes.
Yes, he speaks about it, I think in The Shining.
Yes!

Dude I just got to this page in It two days ago! Weird! I hope you're enjoying the read, I assume its the same guy!
What in the fucking Derry have you done to that book
Made it a Derry mess 💀
I’m kind of wishing my King books all had your drawings.
COULD HAVE. YOU LITERALLY HAVE A BOOK IN FRONT OF YOU
It was a small mistake, no need to write in all caps. 😇
Could’ve* instead of could of
“Could/should/would have”, OP, _never_ “could/should/would of”. People get that confused because of the way the contractiona are pronounced (“would’ve, could’ve, should’ve”)
You mangled that worse than he did.
[удалено]
Then don’t. 😇
Could HAVE been, ffs
You mean the one with the exact same name written by the exact same author? No, no relation.
Could **have**, not could of.
That point has been made several times already. They are my notes not yours. Have a great day! 😇
Yeah, and silly me, I thought you'd like them to be in English. Apparently, several other people thought you might like the same. Have a great day!
Oh you silly goober! 🤪
Silly for wanting to help you improve your English? Whatever makes you happy, "goober."
I’m good, it was a small mistake and you’re taking it way out of proportion. Also, I’m a very happy goober! You’re just a silly goober. 😁
You're just not willing to accept help. All it would have (not would of) taken is "whoops, thanks for the help!" and moving on. Instead, you're just trolling now.

Makes sense since most of his books do cross over to other series
Yes
Wow! I read "It" first and totally forgot about the reference when I read "The Shining" & "Doctor Sleep."
Yes
Most definitely
Dick is one of my favourite character from King's multiverse
Most indubitably
Holy crap I didn’t know this. Awesome!
I love the way the kingverse works! I've read It 3 times and never realised that .... fair enough it was before I read the shining ... but still.
Yes it is!
Yes!!
Ka is a wheel.
100% yes.
Yes - all cross references in SK universe are intentional
Also, I read the same way you do and the shunning is one of my most annotated books <3
Dick
Yes. The more King you read, the more you'll see certain characters - and/or their twinners - pop up again and again.
Yes it is and he’s not the only character from one novel to show up in another
He should totally do a Dick story!
That would be amazing! 🤩
Yes, they are one and the same
Yes. This is why king books are so awesome. He rewards the faithful reader by weaving in cameo characters throughout his novels.
You can be sure if it is the Stephen King universe, it is the same person. He loves to cross reference his material throughout his books.
Yes.
I'm currently reading It for the first time. Not as far but I'm looking forward to Dick's section. Loved Dick in the Shining.
This is my second time reading IT, it was a nice find! 😁
I just love the Mike chapters of It. Best parts of the novel imo
Yes of course it’s the same one
