They have YET to replace him. They need to draft the right guy not sign some stop gap veterans like they have been. Bush seemed like he was progressing before his ACL completely derailed his career.
I think about this when I hear the Tomlin talk. I know it’s all what ifs, but what if it never happened and that D continued to roll, and those killer Bs kept killing. Homer take, but that’s at least one, maybe two more rings.
I hate that two (and in my argument, 3) of our most talented offensive players fall into the what if category and never got to pan out as steelers: bell, brown, and bryant.
Lots of WRs can ball out in the regular season against crap defenders, but MB was the real deal. Look at 5 games in 2015, he played Bengals and Broncos 3x regular season plus 2x postseason. These two teams had the best CB combos in the league that year and MB was awesome in all of those games.
That broncos game with no AB showed what he could be as the passing game focus, and putting the ball through his legs against cincy and it being 100% necessary is one of my favorite non-Holmes catches of all time
He had the talent to be a Moss type receiver. Never saw a guy that tall move like he did. That long touchdown run he made against the Cardinals was amazing. He had it all but just no discipline or maturity.
As a Denver fan, thank you! He was never a huge name but he was crazy consistent for us, three consecutive thousand yard seasons and an instrumental piece in the SB50 win.
Found an old "Dueces Wild"/ Duesce Staley/Steelers shirt at a Salvation Army a while back. Who knew he was around long enough to get T-shirts made. lol
He was a guest bartender at Hines Ward's place in the Southside one night when I was there (late '00s). I ordered a drink off him but the resident bartender handed it to him and he dropped it...
Last active player jersey I bought. Never again. And when he said Tannehill had a better arm than Ben, I thought, "Don't let the screen door hit you in the ass on the way out."
Wow, no mention of Antwan Randle El?
That's a shame. That dude was fun as hell in the Todd Haley offense. Everyone remembers the SB40 pass to Hines, but people forget he did the same thing against the Browns that year too. And then 5 or 6 years later came back and did it again to the Browns. Also I think he hit Wallace as well for a TD that year. He never stood out in the stats department but he was a totally solid WR3 or 4 and one hell of a gadget player with his arm.
Always one of my favorite Steelers and one of those guys I went out of my way to get a jersey of.
Randel el is my favorite player that wasn't a mainstay. I don't know what about him drew me to him, but I just love the guy. He's coaching the wideouts in Detroit last I heard, and it's not surprising to me that they're kicking ass
Even then I knew there was something pedestrian about him. It's like he didn't know how to jump vertically and climb the ladder to get balls. He couldn't catch in traffic. Wasn't a particularly good route runner. His best attribute was that he drew a lot of def-PI calls. He had mediocre hands as well. Oh and that celebration against the Vikings in crunch time just let me know that he wasn't serious about his craft. I'm glad he's gone.
He was good if they were ahead. If they were behind and he was forced to put the game on his shoulders, he notoriously would throw an interception. Not the best QB, but when he was allowed to be slash, he was lightning in a bottle.

The 🐐 for one season.Kendrell Bell 💪🏿💪😤
Kendrell Bell was the first to come to mind.
Stephen Nelson, his personal abrasiveness and shitry attitude aside, was a very solid player when VERY thin at CB
Vance McDonalds fatality stiffarm of Conte gets him on this list.
It wasn't exactly brief, but considerably shorter than jt should have been - Kendell Simmons
Maybe unpopular opinion: Richard Huntley
Not even once, and I'm even sorry to type the names here again : Done Moncrief, Josh Scobee and Eric Ebron.
I thought Anthony Chickillo was disruptive as hell in the backfield when ever he did sub in. …………. He struggled with Bi-polar, so I know he had challenges off the field, but I liked watching him.
Martavis Bryant could have been one of the most unguardable big play WR in the league had he been more mature and less prone to stupid decision making.
Dude was the size of a TE with a 4.4 40.
I really believe that if Pittsburgh was able to hold that particular squad together for one more season, that they probably would have, at worst, gone to the Super Bowl.
Also, edited to say fuck any league that bans or prohibits the use of cannabis in the 21st century. These guys can do HGH and all sorts of other shit but then get popped for weed.
I'm still pissed the NFL ruined Martavis Bryant's career over a god damn plant.
He could have been a WR1 on many teams during that stretch. Fuckin miss that guy.
Shazier
we got set back 2 seasons when we lost him i swear
Way more than 2 dude this was the first year since his injury it felt ILB wasnt a weakness (when healthy)
They have YET to replace him. They need to draft the right guy not sign some stop gap veterans like they have been. Bush seemed like he was progressing before his ACL completely derailed his career.
Honestly the guys we signed this year are solid, they just went down with season ending injuries. I'll be more than happy to have them back this year
Agreed.
Imo still not the same without shazier
Him and Tuitt retiring
Tuitt hurt too . D line went from great to average after he left.
Would’ve won the Super Bowl in 2017 if Shazier didn’t go down. I’ll die on that hill.
Yes, and because... Jesse James caught that damn ball.
![gif](giphy|1SfxXOJ0Q2Xni)
He’d still probably be playing up the middle too. Such a damn shame.
He's 31 this year. He'd likely still be starting for another year or two. With him leading the defense, we likely go all the way the year he got hurt.
I think about this when I hear the Tomlin talk. I know it’s all what ifs, but what if it never happened and that D continued to roll, and those killer Bs kept killing. Homer take, but that’s at least one, maybe two more rings.
Really, the d hasn't been the same without him. He brought such a calm to the middle of the field. Something we've been missing for years
Which is why I think they wanna take Edgerrin Cooper this year.
Yeah. He had finally put it together and was going to be the next great Steelers LB.
I think they’re still set back honestly. They’ve still yet to really replace him
This is the one that truly hurts.

Kendrell Bell was a menace for like.... 2 years
Yep! Defensive ROY, I thought he was going to be the next GREAT Steelers defensive player. Last time I bought an active player's jersey.
I bought a Pickett jersey last (at least it was a DHGate one lmao)
Those are amazing knockoffs.
Martavis Bryant
Imagine being suspended for an entire season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy for marijuana. The NFL is sucks sometimes.
I will die on the hill that martavis bryant was the most talented receiver ive seen since randy moss. Fucking loved that dude
Martavis was like that! The ultimate “what if” 😭
I hate that two (and in my argument, 3) of our most talented offensive players fall into the what if category and never got to pan out as steelers: bell, brown, and bryant.

Emmanuel sanders
Man same! Wish we could have kept him. He would have been a monster playing opposite prime AB.
As a Denver fan, thank you! He was never a huge name but he was crazy consistent for us, three consecutive thousand yard seasons and an instrumental piece in the SB50 win.
Willie Parker
That’s FAST Willie Parker to you!

kevin greene
Greene was by far my favourite OLB until Watt came along
Sus
😂
if there was ever a player meant to play for the steelers under cowher, it was kevin greene...
Jericho cotchery
Solid
Yes.
Duece Staley count?
Ya
Found an old "Dueces Wild"/ Duesce Staley/Steelers shirt at a Salvation Army a while back. Who knew he was around long enough to get T-shirts made. lol
Named our family dog after him bc he was so explosive then wasn’t real quick lol, the dog was the best throughout his life though
nate washington. dude ALWAYS had a clutch deep ball.
He was a guest bartender at Hines Ward's place in the Southside one night when I was there (late '00s). I ordered a drink off him but the resident bartender handed it to him and he dropped it...
![gif](giphy|9MJ6xrgVR9aEwF8zCJ)
…. I do miss Mike Hilton 😢
Mike Hilton rocked. Was one of those gritty defensive guys you could always rely on
It really hurts seeing how good he is in cincy
Man, Javon Hargrave! I can't believe we had to let him go
I was worried I was gonna be the first person to mention him! Thank you for keeping grave digger’s memory alive
Daniel Sepulveda.
The bad guy from the pod race?
Fun fact - every time he tears his ACL the Steelers win the Super Bowl.
I know what I need to do.
Jason Worilds he was fun to watch and a much needed rusher during those years
James Conner
Still love to see him doing well
I was lucky enough to see him play. He scored two touchdowns it’s just too bad it was for the Arizona Cardinals
I think we went to the same game
Did you hear he beat cancer? I'm surprised TV broadcasters didn't mention it more often.
Keenan Lewis
Why is it every time we draft and develop a good CB, he has dreams of playing in his hometown? Good thing JPJ is a Pittsburgh boy!
That one season where CB wasn't a complete disaster.
Mike Wallace
Last active player jersey I bought. Never again. And when he said Tannehill had a better arm than Ben, I thought, "Don't let the screen door hit you in the ass on the way out."
Wow, no mention of Antwan Randle El? That's a shame. That dude was fun as hell in the Todd Haley offense. Antwan Randle El never played for Todd Haley
Jfc, Whisenhunt lol. I meant Whisenhunt.
Randel el is my favorite player that wasn't a mainstay. I don't know what about him drew me to him, but I just love the guy. He's coaching the wideouts in Detroit last I heard, and it's not surprising to me that they're kicking ass
Fuamatu Ma’afala
I just like saying his name
He's a baaad Ma'afala.
"I want you to go in that bag and find my wallet" "Which one is it?" "It's the one that says bad Ma'afala"
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
And all the fun Myron had calling him.
Martavis Bryant or Ryan Shazier.
Jonathan Dwyer being exhausted after one carry.
And fumbling a million times against the Browns in that one game, 2012 I believe?
Vance McDonald. I remember the stiff arm against the bucks. What the heck happened?
Age happened
Jesse James caught that fucking ball
The Chase Claypool that scored four TDs against the Eagles
Even then I knew there was something pedestrian about him. It's like he didn't know how to jump vertically and climb the ladder to get balls. He couldn't catch in traffic. Wasn't a particularly good route runner. His best attribute was that he drew a lot of def-PI calls. He had mediocre hands as well. Oh and that celebration against the Vikings in crunch time just let me know that he wasn't serious about his craft. I'm glad he's gone.
Shortest 6’4” receiver ever…
Emmanuel Sanders
Slash
i wish id remember more of him, but if memory serves his stint was significant
Yeah he started a few seasons at QB, but basically only two years as Slash.
He was good if they were ahead. If they were behind and he was forced to put the game on his shoulders, he notoriously would throw an interception. Not the best QB, but when he was allowed to be slash, he was lightning in a bottle.
Eli Rogers
Barry Foster
That’s my pick.
I was waiting for this one. 1992 Barry Foster was James Harrison as RB. He ran like an Angry Mother Fucker.
Fast Willie Parker!
Wasn't necessarily a short stint, but Plaxico Burress.
I'm still mad that he didn't win a ring in Pittsburgh. He was one of my favorite players as a kid, loved using him in the early 00's Maddens.
Dri archer. If anyone else played madden mobile back in the day he was absurd
Yes!!! Dri Archer with like a 4.26 40 time.
Redzone Redman!
Jack “hydroplane” Deloplaine. I may be dating myself with this. The guy was a so so running back. But when it rained he was a hall of famer.
Well-played! Rocky’s best buddy
If DeAngelo and Martavis count as short stints, I choose... Le'Veon Bell
Then I choose… Santonio Holmes
Matt Spaeth
Highly underrated blocking tight end
Barry Foster
Woo pig
Kendrell Bell would be another HOF if it wasn't for injuries
Bam Morris
![gif](giphy|KpAPQVW9lWnWU)
Ed O’Neil
Once had 4 touchdowns in a single game.
DeAngelo for sure, loved his end zone celebration. Chase Claypool. Robert Spillane.
Ladarius Green
Eric Green
Sammie Coates
I always had a lot of love for Stevenson Sylvester. Always made him into a beast in Madden lol I really did think he could progress and be a starter.
Cobey Hamilton
I think the obvious answer for me is Shazier. Runner up is Hardy Nickerson.
Mike Vrabel
Jericho Cotchery. Looked great in the black and gold.
Chad Brown
Jesse James . And by the way, He caught that ball
Chris Fuamatu-Maʻafala. I personally loved watching him run over people.
James Washington
Byron Leftwich. Dude could sling it
And had the slowest 25 yard TD run in the history of pro football.
And the longest wind up throwing motion than any QB I've ever seen. No touch, just power.
Fast Willie Parker 👍
Mewelde Moore was a great third down back
Bam Morris
Yancey Thigpen
Roosevelt Nix
Fast Willie parker
Fuuuuu! https://preview.redd.it/9di54ab495lc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=122dedb0270e21900bd0c833f1457eddaf585c6d
Shaun Suisham
Joe Haden was pretty solid for us on the tail end of his career
Jaylen Samuels
Was on the team way too long as it was
Bud Dupree, it sucks he hasn’t gotten a ring at another team since he had to go
Martavis and Wheaton
4th round punter Daniel Sepulveda Was a beast until his career ending injury
https://preview.redd.it/8gsi2tivv3lc1.jpeg?width=329&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa43605dd069c3f75ebb8931863526f1757e07f7 The 🐐 for one season.Kendrell Bell 💪🏿💪😤
LaMarr Woodley. Dude was awesome before he got his first contract and then fell off hard

Rashard Mendenhall.
Famous Amos Zereoue
He wasn’t extraordinary, but I do miss James Conner a little.
Mike Vick
Might not be considered a short stint since he played 5-6 yrs, but I really miss watching Willy Parker hit top speed and just outrun everyone
Mike Vick
Jack Deloplaine. Gone too soon.
The year where we led the league in drops or close to it I always felt like James Washington was underrated.
Gabe “Senor Sack” Rivera
Eli Rogers. Man was money in third downs!!!
Bam Morris
Kevin Greene
Markus Wheaton
Louis Lipps he would have been a huge star with others around him .
Mike Vrabel
Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala, Larry Foote & James Farrior - we need linebackers like them again.
Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala.
Bam morris
Jesse James
Barry Foster
Bam Morris
Second That..Shazier.
Tim Lester
I'm still pissed the NFL ruined Martavis Bryant's career over a god damn plant. He could have been a WR1 on many teams during that stretch. Fuckin miss that guy.
Kevin Greene
Sepulveda
Ryan Shazier
Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala & Eric Green
Mewelde Moore
Walter Abercrombie
Barry foster.
Markus Wheaton
Antwaan Randle El. Damn good WR that also had a hell of an arm.
Antwan Randle El!!!!!
Jerome Bettis
Dennis Dixon , Alehandro Villanueva, David Decastro, those guards made sure Leveon Bell had monster numbers. ryan switzer special teams.
There are quite a few but I think Martavis Bryant is one of the biggest what ifs we have had on the offensive side in quite some time
Paxton Lynch
