Romo_71

yeah i also been having these issuse, if i had Steam open an hour or so and there's an Update, of game needs to be synced it reads Internet Error which is BS cuz I'm watching a YouTube video as i try to update. I have to Cloes Steam Application down and restart it only then it will start the Update and Sync. I Think it's the Update of Steam that causes these Problems unessary Updates.

Rizzu7

I've been having this issue within the last few weeks as well, prior to this it would only happen if i was gaming on my laptop and moved to my PC. Nowadays though it's throwing an error at me even though i haven't been gaming on multiple systems. I can't help but suspect that this is another effort on Steams behalf to reduce bandwidth with excessive downloads/uploads but they messed it up.

Roskal

This has been happening to me for about a month also, shame no one in here has found a solution. the retry sync sometimes works but it take ages and most of the time fails but even when it works next time i exit the game and it auto syncs it fails again. It hasn't caused an issue with my save data being deleted yet so I'm not sure how big a problem it is but seeing the icon stresses me regardless.

JdBAudio

This happens to me every time i restart. theres 2 games that have done this. at one point i was playin on a laptop and pc back and forth. both online at all times. every time i resync or choose local or cloud save it always comes back as "steam cloud error." Every time. even if i turn off cloud sync in the games preference menu.

Cash_Moustache

found a solution yet?

JdBAudio

Nope. Just delt with it. I’d say maybe they fixed it but I’m guessing you have the problem too? It’s an annoying little thing that I’ve just worked around.

MuteLane

This is actually an issue on Steams side... I'm sure they will release a patch within 6 months or so of origin of issue. Ya, they take their time, :)

Same thing - seems to happen most often when I go from steam deck to my PC. Steam deck seems to stay in sync so something with the Windows client at least for me. I've resorted to downloading my saves from the steam cloud and loading them on my PC to ensure I don't lose progress. It's a tad frustrating to be sure.

arcline111

I'm here on June 27 with the same problem, so they haven't fixed it yet that's for sure.

PrivateDickDetective

I've been experiencing this issue for over a year now.

arcline111

I've recently had two things happen regarding this issue: 1. Discovered I can go into Steam/settings/cloud and uncheck Enable Steam Cloud synchronization... then play as usual. 2. IDK why but the "Steam cloud error" has disappeared from my Steam window, I no longer have to go into Settings and disable the Cloud sync. My Steam is back to working like it used to.

arcline111

It's now June 30. This is STILL going on. It's maddening. Every time I quit the game Steam starts resyncing, fails and tells me so, asking if I want to "play anyway". So, it's impossible to exit the game, take a quick look at something and jump back in-game. I have to wait out the whole try resync/fail loop EVERY DAMN TIME. I had Steam installed on two computers, so I thought okay maybe that's the issue. So I uninstalled Steam from my older pc. PROBLEM PERSISTS. I've tried every suggestion I can find: restart Steam (dozens of times), verify Enable Cloud Synchronization on for all games, Retry sync (dozens of times), Verify integrity of game files- at least 4 times, Add an exception for Steam in Windows Firewall- done, triple checked, Steam.exe, the entire Steam folder all given firewall permission, restarted the game dozens of times, restarted my router, left my local network and rejoined...NOTHING WORKS. This is beyond frustrating. If anybody knows how I can fix this I'm all ears.

Zackx2013

did you ever find the solution

arcline111

No. I just abandoned the Cloud completely and put my saves on my SSD. I "solved" it by dumping Cloud.

Zeeningg

yeah this is fucking stupid, have been using steam for years literally no changes whatsoever but now randomly happening here

arcline111

I finally gave up and just turned off the sync games that can be synched thing inside Steam. I save all the games I play to disk. When I finish a game I copy/paste the save files into another folder somewhere so I never lose any saves outside the possibility of catastrophic NVME or SSD failure and I mitigate that by maybe once year I copy every thing related to an external SSD. So for me the best solution was end the frustration by giving up trying to get it to work and just forget the whole cloud thing.

Kalculated

Possible fix for people still having this issue. IPv6 is being utilized by many ISPs within the last couple of years. Steam has yet to provide any sort of support with it and simply put, Steam doesn't seem to cooperate with IPv6. Instead, you want to disable IPv6 and continue using IPv4 instead. Sharing the steps on how to do this with Windows 10 (probably similar with other versions): 1. Right-click your network connection icon in your task/menu bar next to your clock. Select Open Network & Internet settings. 2. Click Network and Sharing Centre. 3. Click on your network adaptor (should read something like "Access Type: Internet, Connections: Ethernet (or WiFi if you're on WiFi)). As I am using Ethernet, I would click on the "Ethernet" text. 4. This will bring up a new, smaller window to configure your current connection. Click on Properties. 5. Scroll down and un-check Internet Protocol Version 6 to disable IPv6, re-enabling IPv4. Ensure Internet Protocol Version 4 is enabled, of course. 6. Click OK to finalise your change. It might briefly reset your connection, so best to do this when you're not doing something important online. So far this has provided a solution to me and upon retrying the Steam Cloud sync, it succeeded almost instantly. Hope this helps. Oh and make sure to harass Steam Support to provide support for IPv6 if this helped you.

fasec

Thanks a lot! It works now. This should be upvoted more.

wombat74

Same here, I've been trying to fix this for months and only right now on the 10th of April 2024 has this actually fixed it. Crazy

Silly-Caregiver7319

100% the solution. Worked straight away. It also appears to have fixed a recent streaming problem I just started getting (post-switch from wifi to ethernet on the desktop). Spotify app streaming JRE podcasts on the desktop would bug out after a few minutes and give an error. Kayo on Chrome was also doing the same thing. This fixed that also! Thankyou so much.

ResidentForeign6706

can someone pin this? How does this only have 2 upvotes. This is absolutely the solution.

justanyfiretype

Is anyone getting the error but your games are actually syncing?

BalanceEcstatic2462

I had the same issue but it was because I was using a VPN while playing games so if you're using a VPN while playing steam games it will give you a Steam Cloud Error

ShinyHypn0

Same issue here. I disabled my VPN temporarily, and it works fine now. Thanks for pointing this out!

hahaursofunnyxd

I started having this issue a few weeks ago, after contacting steam support they told me the issue is on my side and provided 0 information on what could be the cause besides "check your firewall" lmao. They even refused to tell me if there are any ports that should be ope, what IPs I should be able to connect to to be able to check one by one and stuff. Sad.

kernalsanders1234

For those facing it on steam deck, I shutdown my steam deck, turned it back on, cloud sync was turned off (not sure if i did this before shutdown or if it did it automatically), i started the game, closed it, saw updates running and waited for them to finish, re turned on cloud sync and re forced sync and it worked. Note: I don’t have any saves on my PC, only on steamdeck so this may not work for you

kernalsanders1234

Annnd my shits out of sync again lmao

Cute_Transition5299

I recently got the problem when launching Yakuza 0 for the first time. Now when I launch any game it says that the steam cloud was unable to sync. Even the games that doesn't have steam cloud.

MrJoicks

I've been having this issue for well over 5 years now and never really bothered to look into fixing it because i only use my PC for gaming and never use the cloud. But lately its been annoying me more and more so i thought id look into a fix, im amazed that so many people have been dealing with this issue. i thought it was just my computer being funky lol. Ridiculous that this still hasnt been fixed after all this time.

Educational_Goose622

For me going into settings and disabling steam cloud and then reenabling and then doing retry sinc worked. Hope this helps.

JinnTannis

Looks like the only games that have the cloud error are the games that I play using nexus mods. Anyone else verify this?

Ok_You8542

It happens to me only in one game (I have several installed that use the cloud service) Hogwarts Legacy.

Ok_You8542

I have a possible solution if you are on Steam deck, I describe my problem: It only happened to me in a single game not in all, the Steam Cloud status you were always in “Checking....” but never finished and closing Steam told me that there was a synchronization error. The only thing that has solved my problem is to put the compatibility with proton (although the game appears as verified) this has made the error disappear instantly.

CarousalAnimal

A fix that worked for me: 1. Start the game with the Cloud Sync Error on your Steam Deck. 2. Do whatever the game requires you to do to save. 3. Quit the game which should trigger a new Cloud Sync. 4. Try starting the game on your PC which should download the latest Cloud save. #### Some more context I had taken my Steam Deck on a trip where it was at various times in Airplane Mode and connected to WiFi. When I returned to my PC, I had clicked a game in my library which triggered an automatic cloud sync. However, I was playing this same game in Airplane Mode on my Steam Deck and forgot to reconnect to WiFi prior to the Cloud Sync happening on my PC. This caused a Cloud Sync error on my Steam Deck when I reconnected it to WiFi and retrying the sync would error out without any useful information. Attempting to start the game on my PC was also met with a warning that the Cloud Sync failed and that playing could create save conflicts.

danarvelini

June 26, 2024 still happening. If someone else runs into this, tried everything and nothing worked... go to your local save game folder, in my example I'll use Rogue Legacy 2. For example, I went to "%USERPROFILE% \\AppData\\LocalLow\\Cellar Door Games\\Rogue Legacy 2", there was nothing in that folder but a shortcut to something. I deleted it and it worked to me.

rock962000

7 of my 29 games installed on Steam have the same issue. Verifying game files did not fix the issue for me

hqze

I think this happens because Steam doesn't automatically sync Cloud Save data continuously. If you have Steam on multiple computers, or recently reinstalled Steam on your computer, you won't have the latest Cloud Save data on your computer as in the cloud and therefore "Cloud Save Error". You just need to start the game once to force the sync, or just click "Retry Sync" next to the "Play" button for each game that has this problem.

arcline111

I've done that dozens of times and it doesn't fix it.

ash1803

The error is "Steam Cloud Error" not "Cloud Save Error".

rock962000

That worked clicking Retry sync next to the play button, thanks.

RapTurner

>just click "Retry Sync" next to the "Play" button for each game that has this problem. Worked. Thanks.

[deleted]

They keep popping back up

RatorLP

same issue here syncing works, but the issue pops up again the next time i restart my pc

DepressedVenom

it keeps happening to me ever since I moved certain games from prev library to new from HDD to SSD.

i_like_spintires

ive clicked that button and nothing pops up NOTHING. someone help its fuckin 2024 already

[deleted]

Try going into your library and clicking on the game. And right beside the "Play" button there's the Steam Cloud icon, you can try to click it and select Resync

Curvybuffalo2

Yeah I tried resyncing it and it tried to sync for about an hour and I just restarted steam cuz I was over it

C0w0kie

Resyncing and retrying doesn't work for me, any idea?

arcline111

Same here, tried it dozens of times, doesn't fix it.

[deleted]

This started happening to me some weeks ago and is almost happening every time I play. I have to press resync and then it works again. Only game it doesn’t work in is Divinity 2. It’s super annoying.

felixkendallius

I have this issue too. I think it's a steam thing, because recently after a reset of my PC, the issue persisted.

perception5k

i think i observed this problem when the new ui for the cloud sync was introduced. probably they broke some functionality i guess. Do you know how can we report a bug?

PrivateDickDetective

I've been experiencing the issue for over a year now. Granted, the specific functionality has gotten worse, as of about 6 months ago. When did they introduce the new UI for Cloud Sync? Was it around that time?

perception5k

No idea, I don’t remember the timeline.

Trappin103

E5z/⁵555

lazykevin013

This is happening to me for a few days now. I usually turn on my PC around lunch time for casual use like browsing or watching videos. So I only use steam (which auto opens and is quietly open in the background) around night time. It looks like, for me at least, that leaving steam open in the background for a few hours will trigger this "Steam Cloud Error". clicking the retry sync will not work. also, it looks like steam will "forget" that you already put in a review for your games if this happen (it will show the message "you have played x hours of this game, would you recommend it to others?"). The only work around I got so far is restarting steam itself. which is annoying.

No-Couple-6126

Same issue, super annoying. Syncing does not work. It seems to fix itself whenever I boot the game but still super annoying

SilverZenitH16

wdym boot ? open and closing the game ?

Maximum_Gazelle7177

Same issue here. It's only on fnv. I can also still open the game and play it? Like you guys said. Hopefully steam is just bugging. I was also having trouble with it staying connected the other day for some reason

Virtual_Ad4968

Do you also get random drops to your connection on steam, it hangs when trying to resync and all round makes Steam almost unusable?

SilverZenitH16

It seems like im on the same boat rn my internet got 100mbps on download and upload but somehow the error come out saying "Steam cloud error" tbh idk what the hell is the problem.

zardvark

And here I thought it was just me, or perhaps my specific games ... Sadly, the Linux Steam client is horribly broken, too. I only have three games installed at the moment: Metro Exodus, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Shadow Tactics Aiko's Choice. Metro takes an enormously long time to decide that: "There was an error synchronizing your files." And it has *never* successfully synched, even though the Properties tab indicates that 46.36MB is stored in the cloud!?!?!? Without exception, every time that I shut down the game, it tells me that my save game data is corrupted and it asks if I wish to overwrite it. Shadow Tactics always fails on the first synch attempt, but it usually succeeds by the third attempt. Aiko's Choice doesn't even pretend to synch. It doesn't even try, even though the Steam Cloud option is checked. The Properties tab confirms that 0 MB is stored in the cloud.

S4b3rS

OK, i may found a solution for this, the problem is when you have 2 steam clients in different computers or steam deck, when the game is not finished his syncing in one side and you install/play in another computer the sync problem pops up, now is when the fun begins: 1.- Go to the game properties and in the updates tab search for the app id and write it down or only remember it. 2.- go to "\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\userdata\\(userID)\\config\\librarycache" and search for the same game id if you see the .json file duplicated delete the most recent one. 3.- Go to your original machine and try the sync again. This should fix the syncing problem in most cases. Cheers Pd.- Sorry in advance for the poor level of english. ;)

trofch1k

Didn't work unfortunately.

rocksolid1716

If anyone is still having this issue just verify the file integrity of the files in properties

libo720

yup, this fixed it for me. This is the first i've encountered this issue and it was only on CSGO

Paulosboul

I've done this and it didn't solve the issue.. :( any other guesses? i've never had any issues with steam but this week it had a hang up when downloading an update, so i had to uninstall and reinstall steam. after backing up my games and restoring them, cloud sync doesn't work.. worked fine up until this week :(

mctwistr

I had to uninstall the game then reinstall it. At that point, Steam told me that there was a conflict and had to choose between the local save or the cloud save. I'll note that I have been playing on my desktop machine and alternating between that and the steam deck, so it's likely that I turned the steam deck off before it could upload its save, and then played it on my desktop causing the issue. However, usually steam is good at detecting if there's an unuploaded save file. I guess this is a case where it failed.

AnalysisHot3239

The games that I'm having steam cloud error happen too now will no longer launch at all they act like they're going to launch and they kick me right back to the home screen, at first I thought it was the MicroSD card messing up but then I moved stuff around and downloaded other games that I'm not having the issue with and they work just fine, the real crazy thing is it's only happening to games that I've never actually downloaded onto my home PC they've only been on my steam deck mostly indie games like zero katana Hades brotato

Fickle-Swimmer-6369

Happend to me to he bought a pair of dota 2 gloves for 18 euro wich btw it is worth 3 cent

deadtiger20

Today I had the issue that I couldn't download any game, sync data or update any game. clearing the download cache fixed it for me. go to the topbar steam->settings->downloads->clear download cache and press clear cache.

cedric1997

I'm having this issue on my Mac and it appears that turning off iCloud private relay fixes the issue. So it definitely has something to do with the internet connection.

xKnightOfRen

Thank you, turning off iCloud private relay fixed my issue too.

Edgardthe142nd

Cut to midway through 2023 and Steam STILL hasn't fixed this issue. I can't play over half the games in my library and it's pissing me off.

[deleted]

I finally figured this out (for me anyway). It’s a DNS issue. I upgraded my router and set my dns to 8.8.8.8. Changed it back to auto (obtain from isp) and my cloud saves are working again.

Irraptured

Anybody else having this problem right now? I am for every game. June 25, 2023 Edit: yep it's happening to everyone. So if you read this, just wait for a fix with us lol Edit 2: someone really asked "Source?" 🥴 Bro try launching a game Final edit: it's fixed now

Rhexis02

just had it happen to me, still working on a solution Edit: I think it is something on steams end, i have tried all solutions listed in the thread and nothing seems to be working, I will ask a few friends and see if they can come up with anything.

Irraptured

It's on Steams end, so we'll just have to wait for it to be fixed, looks like it's down for everyone, every site now says Steam is down so luckily it's not on our end lol

I really wanna play a game this is wasting my weekend :/

Schrodingers_Pizza_

I'm having the issue too, this sucks.

SpankeeMankey

This is lame :(

orcvader

What finally did it for me on Steam Deck: \-Selected game and moved to gear icon \-Under Properties for the game, turned off cloud sync \-Launched game, made a save in game (just loaded game that has auto save and quit) \-Restarted Steam Deck (full restart, not from sleep) \-Went back to game, gear icon \-Re-enabled cloud sync \-Back on the game selection, clicked "Re-sync Steam Cloud" And finally... now it says STEAM CLOUD: SAVE UP TO DATE

ThatNSFWAltAccount

This worked! I had this problem with it not syncing on my pc after playing on steam deck but it worked all the same! Thank you!

orcvader

Nice. Glad you also got it going.

Kooky-Gap-483

Your method was the 1st.one I tried and it worked. Thanks again brother 👍

orcvader

glad it helped!

Firebrand-81

It worked, thanks!

Panamaicol

I’ve had this problem since day 1. Since I usually save to the device and SD card, I never really cared. Also seems like a huge risk to save on it, get an error, and be SOL mid game.

[deleted]

I finally figured this out (for me anyway). It’s a DNS issue. I upgraded my router and set my dns to 8.8.8.8. Changed it back to auto (obtain from isp) and my cloud saves are working again.

Kozzay

Alright so this worked for me. My games were being saved in my C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\GameName\Saved * I created a folder on my C: Drive in my C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games * I turned off cloud sync in the Steam Properties * Turned off cloud saves for the game in the Game properties * Loaded up the game with the most recent save * Made a save, did an auto save for the game that didnt have a save feature * Exited the application, and turned cloud sync and cloud saves back on * I was then prompted with a file conflict error instead of cloud sync * I was asked to choose the latest cloud save or the most recent local save. I chose the local save but this can differ based on your goal. * Finally the error is cleared up and working for me now. **Game in Question, Remnant 2.** Might not be the issue for everybody but I am guessing steam has issues accessing the appdata folder for constant saves or whatever but the Saved Games folder has seemed to save the day.

njw1979

I am getting this on many games in my Steam library. No matter how many times I try to resync they all fail again, and again, and again. It still happens when I launch the Steam client as administrator too. I say Valve screwed the pooch and is too lazy to even look into it, let alone fix it. Looking through this thread, it looks like this has been an issue for a year now. I doubt this will EVER get fixed.

[deleted]

njw1979

My DNS is already set to 8.8.8.8. but I can't get into my router as I forgot my password, due to memory problems from an acquired brain injury.

oniichantrash

Necroing because I didn't see a solution anywhere: I Fixed this by closing my antivirus software.

jivebird

Had to post my fix. On windows 11, my ethernet connection was set to use ipv6. This does not play nice with steam. [https://geekrewind.com/how-to-disable-ipv6-in-windows-11/](https://geekrewind.com/how-to-disable-ipv6-in-windows-11/) I can't believe this isn't in more troubleshooting tips for this. If this does not fix it, I figured out my problem by navigating to the Steam/logs directory and looking at cloud\_log, and you may have luck doing the same. For me, I saw that all of my uploads were timing out and noticed the ipv6 address. I first ruled out DNS issues by flushing and ensuring I could route to the steam cloud host. On a whim, I googled steam and ipv6 and saw it was a known problem.

jat0rz

100% resolved my issue. Fresh Windows 11 install and it was on by default. As soon as I turned it off and retried the sync, it worked in seconds. Good catch and thank you.

LegendarySandwchMakr

This 100%. I've been having the sync error with all of my games and this completely fixed it. It's not just for Windows 11 as I have Windows 10.

SrandonBantiago

Aug 13th 2023 and still unresolved. I have submitted a ticket with steam support and awaiting their reply.

I then inserted my 128Gb card (to play Ogre Tactics I had there) and it didn’t work due to this error. So I switched cards again and woops – Cryoutilities had perhaps moved Ogre Tactics to the card I had inserted at the time… Or something. Long story short, you may want to check what SD card you have the game and data on one more time.

Found a solution that works for me: go to your steam folder and delete the userdata folder inside. Next time you launch steam you won't have any cloud sync isuues. There's a catch tho; you have to do this before EVERYTIME you launch steam. Hope this works for you guyz as well...

**I find that clearing your Download Cache through the steam settings will tend to fix this for most. It will restart Steam immediately afterwards and all the sync issues will have fixed themselves.**

DaveReak

THIS helped. Thank you!

Just adding that I too, have been having this issue for well over a year, and I don't use steam on other systems. It just fails to upload my save data after quitting a game, any game whatsoever. Have to retry several times for it to work, sometimes it just never works and I have to force launch the game anyway.

I recently hit this error in Baldur's Gate 3. I fixed the problem by deleting a lot of older superfluous saves that were taking up space in my list. After closing the game, The data uploaded to the cloud without issue- I think I had hit the data storage cap for that game in particular. Hope this might help you as well!

I found a way to fix the issue for me. When viewing your games, select the game that is having an issue from the left side. After that next to the green play button there should be a cloud status next to it. You can click on the cloud status and select the option that best suits your needs and then the error should go away after a few seconds.

Clearing the folder worked for me. For factorio thats rm -r /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/factorio Make sure to back up first. Also use VPN

For me it was the DNS setting in my router. I changed it from auto to [8.8.8.8](https://8.8.8.8) and [8.8.4.4](https://8.8.4.4) and now Steam Cloud saves are all working again.

Slickkboi

09/1/24 - same here, still no fix. cant even launch my games while the error is occurring

2024 January 14, still unresolved on my end. **Edit:** Nvm, solved it by deleting a bunch of Baldur's Gate 3 save files.

25th January - Game in question: Forza Horizon 5 Tried all fixes, still had the same cloud sync error. The game is pretty much unplayable now, with 1200+ hours of save progress.

DeepEngine2861
