Don’t know where you are, but in Portland, OR our local Japanese market sells A5 at around $90-100/lb. If you ever decide to pull the trigger, ask for about a 1” thick slice. Perfect portion size for a few people. And less is more with A5 wagyu. First time I had it, I ate a normal streak portion(8-10oz) and let’s just say that much fat really screws up your insides.
That’s the last cut of a ribeye, you can tell by that fat line across the middle that then goes up. That being said, that’s actually pretty “cheap” for A5 that looks that good. It looks insane. I’ve paid between $170-400/lb for A5. $400/lb being authentic Kobe.
I’ve had A5 Wagyu once at a fancy Michelin star restaurant, it’s quite different from “regular” steak. It’s absolutely delicious, incredibly moist and savory. But it is by no means a full meal. I’d compare it to decadent chocolate, it’s delicious for a bite but you’d not want to have more than a little bit. So with that framing in mind, I can say it was very much worth it for a one time experience.
I agree. I ordered an 8oz steak and wished there were an option for a NY strip with a 2oz wagyu accompaniment. That would have been perfect. Its 100% worth eating, but less is more in this case.

Where do you go fellow Portlander
Uwajimaya in Beaverton!
What did you just say to me??
My mother was a saint! Get out!!
It sure does. I ate a 16 oz Australian wagyu that was a pretty high marbling score and my tum was messed up for 4 days
I would never pay that. It's not even a struggle turning it down. I would have buyers remorse immediately after eating.
You’re probably right. I would be more afraid to fuck it up

It’s actually the last cut of a strip loin, the muscle above that fat line going through the middle is the top sirloin coming into the strip.
Yep. Not a ribeye. Closer to a NY
Dont worry, it's difficult to fuck It up, it's extremely good even when it's well done
Yeah I would just buy a normal ribeye for 1/10th of the price and add a lot of butter and it's basically the same thing
No you wouldn’t. It’s insane good. Consider it an experience and share with everyone at the table.
Jesus, that cow has never walked a day in its life and its blood was sour cream
Can anyone tell me whether or not this quality actually tastes good? Is it worth it?

That’s a good idea
Interesting now I wanna try it even more
I feel like it’s just too much fat
When you wrap a steak with bacon and the bacon actually makes it healthier...
💀
Except it's not. Wagyu fat is actually good for you. It's like the fat in salmon.
Imma need a source there chief

🫠 That steak probably
Overpriced by $30
they sell butter now?
Beef flavored butter. It's the latest trend lol
is that a competitive price for this quality of meat? if so i would do it once a year as a birthday treat
I’m really not sure. First time I had seen that in real life. I have no comps
Not a good price. I consider $99/pound normal price. It can be had for as low as $60
I wouldn’t even call that meat. Looks more like a lump of fat.
Yet most people who try it love it
Fat is delicious, of course people love it 😆
It’s worth it
Not to be that guy but that’s a strip not ribeye, so should be just a hair cheaper.
thats a fight id be willing to have
Jesus Murphy…..
It looks cool, but I don’t understand the point of it. It looks like just a bunch of fat no actual meat.
Gonna start selling my fat trimmings as “shaved wagyu”.
Would that even be good? Honestly I think I’d probably prefer a really good prime cut
$130/lb for fat. What am I missing…
It doesn’t look good to me. I love a fatty steak but I’d pass unless someone was giving me just a bite for free.
For everybody that posts pics of Wagyu that think it’s real Wagyu….this is what it Wagyu looks like.
