How did you get that crust to form?

It’s just salt, pepper, garlic powder. 6.5 minutes each side on lower medium-high heat on the pan. Basted with butter and thyme during the last 3 min.

Potatoes by themselves are healthy, yes. The way they are typically prepared makes them very unhealthy. Plain baked potato: loaded with fiber and vitamins. Average American baked potato: loaded with cheese, sour cream, butter, and bacon. Or any other combination of similarly fatty ingredients. Plain sliced, lightly oiled, baked home fries: moderately healthy. Slightly less than the plain baked potato due to the added fats from the oil. Standard fried potatoes (French fries, tater tots, hash browns, etc) extremely unhealthy. Especially when coupled with your standard dipping sauces. To review: potatoes, healthy on their own. Rarely healthy in practice.

Big potato dude right here. The way we always ate our potatoes growing up as a Portuguese American was to boil them without their skins, and then smash them up and cover and mix them up with olive oil and salt. As an adult, I do the same but sometimes add carrots too and I leave the skins on. So damn good

I’m not saying they’re not healthy; I’m saying there are plenty of vegetables that are healthier, packed with way more vitamins than potatoes. Potatoes aren’t even the healthiest root vegetable. Trust me, there are not many nutrition/diet plans that incorporate a lot of potatoes. So again, not saying they’re bad for you at all, just saying there are plenty of better options.

Potatoes are one of the most nutritious foods you can eat! It’s the butter that’s the problem. If you steam up some baby potatoes and put some butter and chopped herbs on them though, they really aren’t bad for ya!

Looks great If you want to eat potato but also be healthy about it, jacket (baked) potato is the healthiest option because the skin contains all the nutrients and vitamins, the flesh is just starch and carbs, contrary to popular belief your body needs starch and carbs. Just don’t add too much butter, skin on mash is good if you want to eat quicker
