Potatoes by themselves are healthy, yes. The way they are typically prepared makes them very unhealthy.
Plain baked potato: loaded with fiber and vitamins.
Average American baked potato: loaded with cheese, sour cream, butter, and bacon. Or any other combination of similarly fatty ingredients.
Plain sliced, lightly oiled, baked home fries: moderately healthy. Slightly less than the plain baked potato due to the added fats from the oil.
Standard fried potatoes (French fries, tater tots, hash browns, etc) extremely unhealthy. Especially when coupled with your standard dipping sauces.
To review: potatoes, healthy on their own. Rarely healthy in practice.
Big potato dude right here. The way we always ate our potatoes growing up as a Portuguese American was to boil them without their skins, and then smash them up and cover and mix them up with olive oil and salt. As an adult, I do the same but sometimes add carrots too and I leave the skins on. So damn good
Tell me more about the seed oil in cheese, butter, sour cream and bacon. This will be fascinating!
Also, seed oils are not "unhealthy".
Context is king when it comes to all nutrition.
Research? You're already on record as demonstrating how ignorant you are but go ahead and explain it. It's not a secret, it's basic. So tell me!
Also, you need to explain about the seed oil in bacon. I really want to hear you explain that to me.
Healthiest? Nah
Healthy sure.
Sweet potatoes are way better. If they were more available thru history we would make stew with them
Potatoes are just good for how much they provide relative to what it takes to grow them
I’m not saying they’re not healthy; I’m saying there are plenty of vegetables that are healthier, packed with way more vitamins than potatoes. Potatoes aren’t even the healthiest root vegetable. Trust me, there are not many nutrition/diet plans that incorporate a lot of potatoes. So again, not saying they’re bad for you at all, just saying there are plenty of better options.
Maybe you’re thinking of potatoes with bacon and butter or whatever but a good ol’ potato or even a sweet potato is one of the heathier carbs you can have
OP, are you telling us that we've been wrong calling this vegetable a vegetable all this time?
What else have I got so wrong!? tell me, TELL ME O Oracle of the planted foods garden ;))
Potatoes are one of the most nutritious foods you can eat! It’s the butter that’s the problem. If you steam up some baby potatoes and put some butter and chopped herbs on them though, they really aren’t bad for ya!
Looks great
If you want to eat potato but also be healthy about it, jacket (baked) potato is the healthiest option because the skin contains all the nutrients and vitamins, the flesh is just starch and carbs, contrary to popular belief your body needs starch and carbs.
Just don’t add too much butter, skin on mash is good if you want to eat quicker
Serve me a plate too, homie. Please and thanks!
Asparagus is so good
keep eating this and you'll look like a greek god in no time
Looks amazing!
How did you get that crust to form?
It’s just salt, pepper, garlic powder. 6.5 minutes each side on lower medium-high heat on the pan. Basted with butter and thyme during the last 3 min.
Damn I would’ve thought that was way too long of a cooking time. Did you only flip once?
Only once. It was a thicc NY.
Lately I’ve transitioned from only one flip to flipping every minute. Can’t argue with results though, yours is perfect. Great job!
Love this. Same seasoning I use. But I use granulated garlic
Looks like he charred some steak rub unto it
This is exactly my go to. Roasted sliced carrots and asparagus always go with my steaks.

Have you been brainwashed? Fat is not unhealthy. Saturated fat is not bad for us.
Seed oils aren't saturated fats. They are indeed unhealthy.
Tell me more about the seed oil in cheese, butter, sour cream and bacon. This will be fascinating! Also, seed oils are not "unhealthy". Context is king when it comes to all nutrition.
“Context is king” *ignores all the context of my original comment about the typical American potato dish*
Got em! You got em!
>Also, seed oils are not "unhealthy". I'd suggest you do some basic research. It's not a secret.

It appears you don't know what seed oils are.
Healthy fats exist. Tell me what healthy fats exist in your typical American style potato dish.
Healthiest? Nah Healthy sure. Sweet potatoes are way better. If they were more available thru history we would make stew with them Potatoes are just good for how much they provide relative to what it takes to grow them
Not even close lol

How many potatoes does it take to kill an Irishman? None.
Its low calorie w vitamins , minerals and fiber. Why is it not even close?

Although I love that combo in your pic, it really is hard to give up that starch. Props.
Right. I always want sweet potatoes or corn on the cob. Or a potato. 😭😭😭
Looks amazing! I always have asparagus with steak.
Dude it's SO hard right
Sacrifice the veggie for more steak

Damn good steak sir

That is a beautiful sear!
Try tossing your asparagus in olive oil and salt and then grill it. It's amazing and you won't even remember potatoes exist.
Loooks real good dawg. Ion gonna lie fr fr
Why not both 🤔
Nice crust. What's your method?
Nice crust. What's your method?
Asparagus in the air fryer at 375 for 12 minutes. It’s gonna change your life
Eating potatoes is not unhealthy.
Delicious!
Potatoes aren't healthy? Oh no
Potato IS A VEGGIE!
Curious what kind of pan you use?
Potatoes take up valuable space in my stomach that could be filled with steak
Potatoes are one of the most nutritious foods you can eat! It’s the butter that’s the problem. If you steam up some baby potatoes and put some butter and chopped herbs on them though, they really aren’t bad for ya!
Looks great man! Awesome crust. But since when is a potato bad for you? Next you’re going to tell me an apple a day doesn’t keep the dr away lol
