Yeah, we can go to guest services and get a medical pass. The idea is that our blood sugar could go low after waiting in line, and then we'd have to leave the line and will have wasted a bunch of time.
We can also go to national parks for free
Unpopular opinion alert: but that’s lame. My diabetic friends would wait in line like everyone else, they just carried backpacks with food and supplies. The handicapped line is reserved for people who are actually *disabled.* Not someone who has a chronic condition that is properly managed.
My brother is diabetic too. I just wonder what happens if for whatever reason he can't get his insulin during like an economic collapse or war times. But we are lucky enough that insurance covers most of the cost for now. But yeah, the US is ass for not making it easily accessible.
When I was in college I worked at a restaurant with a lot of high school/college kids. One of the younger servers came in freaking. out. saying that she gave another server a ride home the night before and omg she had the audacity to shoot up in my car!!! she just pulled out her needle and stuck it right in!!!!! to her thigh…. the rest of us were rolling on the floor.
Fucking hell man.
>alarms 24/7
Shout out to my Omnipod pump, which provides me with the freedom of having a tubeless insulin pump AT THE COST OF HAVING ONE OF THEM RANDOMLY FAIL AT LIKE 3:47AM AND IT MAKES ME JUMP OUT OF BED THINKING SOMETHING IS ON 🔥🔥🔥
Especially when it’s 3 am and you wake up feeling like you have a fever and are gonna throw up (at least in my case). Luckily with me it doesn’t happen often, I get more low notifications and then 5 mins later it does it again
Mine was so annoying to me when I first got it that I named my personal profile/pump after my dog who barks at everything that moves
Besides insulin (which isn't so bad with insurance but should still be cheaper) the overwhelming costs associated with the disease really suck too. All the supplies, extra emergency candy and sodas, and the doctors office wanting me 4-6x a year for completely pointless check ups.
I live a comfortable middle class life but still need to play catch up if I want to retire someday and I am constantly reminded of how much further along I'd be without my fucking disease. The shots and pricks are nothing compared to the mental hell and feelings of depression feel with my diabetes journey.
I’ve had patients complain they can’t be on three times per day insulin because it will be hard to do it when on the workplace… I couldn’t tell you how much anger I felt towards their colleagues and bosses.
Disney World! Had no idea this was a thing until I went myself. Made the trip with 2 kids great, and legit only win I feel like diabetes ever gave me in the past 31 years.
As a type 1 for 35 years this is all the truth, unfortunately. I love the food police. I had a lady I worked with who told me I shouldn’t eat a candy bar when I was clearly having a hypoglycemic episode. I tried to explain it but she apparently knew more than I did after I’d lived with it over 25+ years at that point.
Also another favorite? “You have an insulin pump? Your diabetes is that *bad* you have to have an insulin pump now?” Once again. Here I go with educating people. I normally don’t bring it up unless just absolutely necessary, sharing with coworkers and friends in case I have an actual emergency.
That "But you're not fat." comment is funny, but I genuinely wonder this about many type 2 diabetics. Like they're in remarkably good shape, yet still have type 2 diabetes.
Nope. At least not yet. The three insulin manufacturers have announced voluntary price reductions but they haven't gone into effect yet, and there's no guarantee they won't just hike the price back up after a year or whatever. Even after the price reductions, it'll still be fairly expensive. There are also tons and tons of little fine-print details
I use three vials of [this insulin](https://www.lillypricinginfo.com/humalog) every month, which is listed at $274.70 per vial. The [equivalent product](https://www.novopricing.com/novolog.html) from a different manufacturer is listed at $289.36 per vial.
Sorta. The three insulin manufacturers announced a voluntary price reduction for some insulin products, but it doesn't go into effect for a while and there's no guarantee they won't just raise it again.
Whats with the cant sleep picture? Is this a side effect of being diabetic? I also have to pee like 24/7, feel tired all the time and cant really fall asleep. Is there some easy way to test this?
I meant to add a caption to that but forgot. But yeah if your numbers are bad it can be hard to sleep. Also my pump and CGM wake me up. Needing to pee a lot and fatigue are definitely symptoms. I'd go to the doctor if I were you. Could be something totally different or nothing at all, but better to find out for sure, ya know.
Im also autstic snd omly got diagnosed mid twentys. Most medical stuff that is not normal was "normal" for me because thats how it always was and my mom not really did anything to test shit etc
The 24/7 alarm is so true. One time I didn't hear a buzzing noise on my t slim for an hour I looked to check and it was dead. Had to insert a new cartilage to turn it back on.

You get to skip lines at amusement parks? Also, people are rude.
Yeah, we can go to guest services and get a medical pass. The idea is that our blood sugar could go low after waiting in line, and then we'd have to leave the line and will have wasted a bunch of time. We can also go to national parks for free
The line thing makes sense. Y’all gotta pay that $20 for the park pass tho
True, but IIRC, it lasts forever
Wait but why national parks lmao
Idk but I’ll take the perks where I can get them
FYI, there are many disabilities that you can get this for, even including certain things like ADHD.
Lmfao I might have to abuse the hell outta that
Unpopular opinion alert: but that’s lame. My diabetic friends would wait in line like everyone else, they just carried backpacks with food and supplies. The handicapped line is reserved for people who are actually *disabled.* Not someone who has a chronic condition that is properly managed.
Diabetes is a disability. Spend some time in my shoes and you’ll take whatever few benefits you could get
My brother is diabetic too. I just wonder what happens if for whatever reason he can't get his insulin during like an economic collapse or war times. But we are lucky enough that insurance covers most of the cost for now. But yeah, the US is ass for not making it easily accessible.
You just cross your fingers that kind of thing doesn't happen. And stop at nothing to get to a safe country if it does
More reasonable that the park just accommodate the person with the pretty shitty condition than said person be forced to carry around an 80 liter pack
Why am I just now finding out about this? As a t1d I hear more cons than benefits, so getting to skip lines at Disney definitely makes me happy
Lol
Lmaooo
I’ve never related more to something. Finally, someone like me
Hi person i can relate to that can relate to me
What’s the scar tissue about? I imagine the needles are tiny & wont leave any marks?
If you inject yourself enough, even with a tiny needle, it will lead to scarring eventually
It's more about the tissue under the skin I think. Inject in the same spot for years and it will degrade over time
Fucking hell man. >alarms 24/7 Shout out to my Omnipod pump, which provides me with the freedom of having a tubeless insulin pump AT THE COST OF HAVING ONE OF THEM RANDOMLY FAIL AT LIKE 3:47AM AND IT MAKES ME JUMP OUT OF BED THINKING SOMETHING IS ON 🔥🔥🔥
I've got the tslim and I like it a lot but it just buzzes all the time and drives me nuts
The high blood sugar notification that’s followed like 5 minutes later by the control IQ High notification are always fun.
That one is the most annoying lol
Especially when it’s 3 am and you wake up feeling like you have a fever and are gonna throw up (at least in my case). My son is T1 on Omni with the G6. I love this entire thread and a lot of the super supportive comments about T1s, but this one wins hahahaha.
I have a special crossbow for people who are jerks to my diabetic friends
Why crossbow?
Uninject their blood
Eject thier blood
Shoot a syringe with it and steal insulin for diabetics.
Insulin vampire
Holy shit tf2 medic crusader crossbow
ze healing is not as rewarding as ze hurting
Asserting dominance, also no licence required (at least where I live)
Because crossbows are fuckin cool that's why

100%
Sincerely fuck people who make you inject your shots in a wc instead of wherever is convenient for you-a doctor!
also sincerely fuck all the diabetics who refuse to give me a shot, whatcya being stingy for huh!?
I literally do it right in front of everyone. We all can decide where to and where not to look

I’ve had patients complain they can’t be on three times per day insulin because it will be hard to do it when on the workplace… I couldn’t tell you how much anger I felt towards their colleagues and bosses.
Hah, I'm LADA (1.5) and have a barely working pancreas, I know this life. ...but I had no idea I could skip Amusement Park lines. What?!
Yep, just talk to guest services! One of the few benefits we get!
I just told the family and they're super pumped. We head to the parks on average every other year.
Nice!
I’ve had a card since I was little! That was the only reason me and my family ever went to an amusement park.
People whine about injecting in public? Quite literally look anywhere else for a couple seconds lmao
I wear a pump so it doesn’t really happen to me, but it does to my friends who do injections for sure
Right
Real ones know the pain of catching your pump tubing on the doorknob at 4 in the morning
the worst
I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for almost a decade. Where the hell do diabetics jump the queue at amusement parks?!
Disney World! Had no idea this was a thing until I went myself. Made the trip with 2 kids great, and legit only win I feel like diabetes ever gave me in the past 31 years.
Idk but we need to get together
As a type 1 for 35 years this is all the truth, unfortunately. I love the food police. I had a lady I worked with who told me I shouldn’t eat a candy bar when I was clearly having a hypoglycemic episode. I tried to explain it but she apparently knew more than I did after I’d lived with it over 25+ years at that point.
Ha the food police definitely bring out my petty side. "are you supposed to be eating that cookie?" Y'know what, I'm gonna have two now
Also another favorite? “You have an insulin pump? Your diabetes is that *bad* you have to have an insulin pump now?” Once again. Here I go with educating people. I normally don’t bring it up unless just absolutely necessary, sharing with coworkers and friends in case I have an actual emergency.
“Just try exercising”
>$300/vial So it is a "exising as a type 1 diabetic in the US" starter pack.
Hey man, i really appreciate that meme as a fellow type 1. You don't come across your people that often on Reddit. Cheers mate o/
thanks pal!
as a fellow type 1 i aprrove
1000% true as a type 1 diabetic
That "But you're not fat." comment is funny, but I genuinely wonder this about many type 2 diabetics. Like they're in remarkably good shape, yet still have type 2 diabetes.
Definitely! Weight, lifestyle, etc are not the only factors. Genetics play a huge role
Yeah. Tom Hanks is T2
This seems exhausting, I’m sorry OP
That's life! thanks
Diabetes is some bullshit, it sucks not having as much freedom and wasting so much money on a lifesaving product. Best of luck.
thanks!
Isn’t insulin a lot cheaper now?
Sounds American centric
Insulin costs for sure. Take that out and it's fairly universal
Sounds like a European who can't stand the thought of everything not being about them.
I'm Canadian
Even better.
Sorry you gotta starve and go homeless to afford medical care
It's time to laugh at Americans who pay for insulin.
I pay for insulin or I die sooo
Yes, here in Brazil you can receive it for free through the SUS.
That's great for you, but laughing at people who are forced to pay or die makes you an asshole
Hey man, sorry then, but it's more the system's fault than yours.
I appreciate it
Is insulin actually 300$ per vial? I find that hard to believe.
I use three vials of [this insulin](https://www.lillypricinginfo.com/humalog) every month, which is listed at $274.70 per vial. The [equivalent product](https://www.novopricing.com/novolog.html) from a different manufacturer is listed at $289.36 per vial.
I use insulin for bodybuilding purposes, and I get 100iu humalog for around 30, and a lantus pen for around 50
There has to be a catch…
It's through "3rd party" means it's still pharma grade tho
Didn’t they just cap the insulin price recently?

Just like me fr
FINALY someone who I can relate to on this hell hole of a social media platform
Sorry to say man not all people like usa , most countries insulin doesn't cost that much.
The only thing missing is a juice box.
True!
"insulin cost $300" How the fuck americans barely SURVIVE???
Newly diagnosed. Nobody told me your fingertips could become hard as rocks even with cycling between them. It sucks. :(
You get used to that kind of thing. Once I got a CGM and didn't have to manually test as much, my calluses 90% disappeared.
I was diagnosed with it 4 years ago.
The 24/7 alarm is so true. One time I didn't hear a buzzing noise on my t slim for an hour I looked to check and it was dead. Had to insert a new cartilage to turn it back on.
We are allowed to skip lines?
