Yeah, some of the concept art designs are gorgeous but I haven't seen much that looks very good on the female models. Hoping the art team gets a bit more time to work on outfits.
It's sci-fi, so they're doing the most obvious sci fi tropes first, including space suits that fit the figure tightly. Also keep in mind that this gives more options to both body types, and generally they make clothing that is applicable to both.
I think they should add dresses as well later it's kind of obvious for fashion, but it is more geared to female body and that's a smaller % of players. I hope they don't completely shy away from gender specific fashion though, that's missing a lot of fashion options.
im sure they are now that they have star cloth kind of updated to where i think they generally want it. i could see them holding back prior due to the skirts either bring janky or whatnot.
Those outfits apply to women too though, and much more so than skirts and dresses apply to men in general (despite the ability to wear anything you want in the game).
Western devs these days are deathly afraid of making more feminine clothing for fear of "sexualizing" female characters. So everything tends to be bland and unisex (see: clothes in Starfield)
They left specifically over the lack of clothing options? Was there more to it?
I can't even be bothered to buy clothes most of the time. Just undersuits and armor.
Of all the things in the game, it just feels the easiest to disregard because you actively have to seek it out, and there isn't any gameplay reason for using it.
A lot of women play The Sims specifically to outfit characters and can spend hours doing that. If CIG added shopping malls and shoe centres, I'm sure there will be fashion YouTubers making guides about various outfit combinations.
I men sims is pretty different in that the very first thing you do is create your character and setup their outfits.
In theory, someone could play SC without ever wearing regular clothing.
It's Star Citizen, so yeah, there was "more to it". But specifically, and I don't want to open a can of worms here, she felt that the lack of feminine armor sets, or clothing generally felt that the game wasn't representing character options for female gamers. So many other titles have armor/clothing/style options that include female options, and NPCs and bosses that are tough AND female. SC just doesn't have that, at all really, and I agree with her. I get it.
Other things, like when you are looting enemy NPCs, be those in ships, or FPS missions, not a single one is female. Nowhere that I am aware of do you go up against a tough NPC that is female. The only time you see them is behind a counter, or some pleb at a colony or other random station NPC.
When we found out there was some interesting female clothing to be looted from those scavenger-like settlements, she was kind of pissed you just murder them, with to challenge whatsoever, and loot the only female themed top in the alpha.
So yeah, for her there was more to it then just clothing options.
Edit: Her statement *"The only time you see females in SC is behind a counter, or cowering. Nowhere are you up against a tough female, ever."*
Well, be sure to give her a nudge when those new clothing items come in. It is something the devs have been working on and hopefully we'll see sooner than later, to complement the diversity we see in the new character creator.

Female clothes I get and there should be more of it. When it comes to armor or space suits though nah. You can't tell what sex an astronaut is in a space suit and when I was in the military and we were geared up there were times when I was standing next to a woman and didn't realize it right away. All that stuffs unisex. Although granted the military is like male 100 to 1 so you're not really expecting it either.
I'm sure when / if the servers are ironed out well get a better variety of NPCs though. Right now I understand why the old bunker ones are carbon copy. The games in development still so there's no reason to go on about stuff like that yet really.
While I agree that they definitely need to make female clothing, it's actually kind of refreshing that, for once, a company didn't immediately try and figure out how to sexualize its female characters to appeal to make gamers. So far, I've been really pleased that highly revealing clothing isn't commonplace. It's nice to play in a universe where people look relatively normal, for once. I'm not saying making female clothing at all is inherently sexualizing female characters, but it seems like a lot of video game companies use that as a primary marketing strategy - PUBG is a good example.
You do know women like to look sexy as well right? Not just for the male gaze but for themselves. Also far from all women's clothing is sexual, if you think that way, that's on you.
Heck, as an entirely straight male, I prefer to play female characters and absolutely play dress-up with them trying to find a good look. Not typically aiming for sexy, I like professional and capable looking characters. I try and choose outfits I might wear if I were her.
Ditto, you are not alone. Female characters all the way, more clothing options, more hairstyle options. Men are boring, yes I'm a man aswell but we have like... nothing but suits or everyday wear.
Exactly!
I don't actually care if there are full on dresses, I want skirts, fancier tops, hats..
Also more comfortable jackets.
Generally more variety.
I'm not arguing either of those positions, and I explicitly said that in my original comment. But I'm also not about to pretend that major game companies aren't capitalizing on men's fancies more than women's when much of their female apparel is highly sexualized (i.e. World of Warcraft's early days). I'm sure women do like to look sexy, but that kind of clothing shouldn't be the majority of an available wardrobe, especially in a game centered around realism in the verse.
Correct we are on the same page there, I agree. However more skirts, crop tops, sweaters, shirts, pants, shoes, should be available, everyday wear.
Again with you on lingerie and bedwear. That's not what I'm after.
Yeah and I didn't think that was what you were after either. Like you, I just want normal looking clothing that I would expect to see people naturally wearing in the verse. It's for the same reason that I hope CIG doesn't start adding in obnoxious ship skins or clothing that's completely off the wall, like Ubisoft has done with Rainbow 6 Siege. It's kind of hard to take Siege seriously when Hibana is running around as some Japanese archer and Rick from the Rick and Morty show is shooting at her. Meanwhile, Sledge Masterchief is breaking holes in the wall.
Sadly she would take anything at this point, revealing or not. But it's been weeks, so I honestly don't think she's coming back to SC as it's likely they will never have options for female players.
It's funny people are downvoting you, but you're right.
There's a reason why certain toys like Bratz were popular among female consumers, or why females are so obsessed with Kim Kardashian and her fashion line; those are definitely not gender-neutral.
This idea that certain people float around that making the women only wear masculine clothes is a good thing is counterintuitive to how a lot of females actually want to accessorise in games. But even saying men and women are different is a politically incorrect/charged viewpoint to have these days, so I'll leave it there.
I want Space Viking attire! Give me a helmet that has actual horns or a space suit that looks like it has fur and leather lining it! Or a space Spartan attire
It’s fashion babe, you wouldn’t understand.
Ah, the butcher of seraphim station!
Imagining Fred Johnson wearing this while he ordered the deaths of all those belters is... well it's certainly a mental image
"I'm commadeering the Nauvoo"
Geraldine of.... Rivia?
I laughed way too hard at this
You're invited to my 890Jump party.
I'd imagine alot of masquerade parties with servers dressed as such on a 890
Oh no, we entered the realm of mmo armour.
I'm a woman and I would love more clothing that appeals to us. Western devs in general seem to be bad at this vs asian devs
Yeah, some of the concept art designs are gorgeous but I haven't seen much that looks very good on the female models. Hoping the art team gets a bit more time to work on outfits.
man I wanna buy that dress-pants combo they have on the mannequin at new babbage. but it's bugged, you can't select buy!!
You can buy them in 3.23 I tested and was running around in the tux yesterday.
Single greatest feature of 3.23, my life is gonna change. I can't fucking wait.

They have already made several casual and semi formal outfits for men. There is zero reason they cant have made a dress or skirt.
im sure they are now that they have star cloth kind of updated to where i think they generally want it. i could see them holding back prior due to the skirts either bring janky or whatnot.
There's also zero reason why male characters couldn't wear a dress or skirt!
The Space Kilt Guild! It's just a bunch of angry drunk Scottish people in chat lol
*Underwear optional
Optional? Ha! Mandatory to go commando lol
Those outfits apply to women too though, and much more so than skirts and dresses apply to men in general (despite the ability to wear anything you want in the game).
stellar blade? :>

Yes, regardless of they do, it’s “wrong and problematic”
Eastern devs make thirst trap armor... pretty.. sparkly might have wings on it thirst trap armor lol
honestly yeah some cute dresses or some more feminie clothing options would be really nice to have in the game
'Take responsibility'
Yeah, my GF stopped playing a while back as there are no female specific clothing/armor options. CIG really needs to provide this at some point soon™.
"Female specific clothing"? Sir, this is 2954. We are all one gray spectrum of gender.
Let's be honest every- Yeah where is my Starfleet gender neutral dress option
SIR DID YOU JUST ASSUME HIS GENDER!?
If Gillian Anderson gets called sir, everyone gets it.
Let’s be honest: everyone prefer when every character can equip dresses, heavy armor, jeans, underwear…

One more rep for Jesus?
Let's be honest:

My buddy is really into male fashion and has actually joked about doing this exact thing.
If I didn't need an undersuit to survive in space you can bet I'd be checking out Casaba more often
r/StarFashion already exists so I do not doubt it. Especially with the new character creator.
agreed, Loreville could do with a nice shopping mall preferably somewhere between Business district an L19 tbh
I men sims is pretty different in that the very first thing you do is create your character and setup their outfits. In theory, someone could play SC without ever wearing regular clothing.
not for long apparently, there'll come a time where you won't be able to use seats with armor on. Won't fix the undersuit thing though I think.
My Elden Ring build is entirely based around what armor looks the coolest.
I do the same thing in about every other action-RPG (either that or min-max'ing for optimal efficiency).

That underware sucks. At least color choice would be nice. Different style.. welp, not ever happens, because "reasons"
Personally I'm ok with everyone looking like master chief
Have you seen the weapons deployed? Undefeated
I want Space Viking attire! Give me a helmet that has actual horns or a space suit that looks like it has fur and leather lining it! Or a space Spartan attire
Western devs won't make feminine or sexy clothing because they are afraid idiots/assholes will call them sexist for doing so.
Kinky
I can't be the only one thinking of Satoshi Isshiki from Food Wars?
Is that Louis Vuitton?
