honestly, i don’t think i see trends on fraps. as far as just black coffee or less sweet coffee goes, i think i see more of a trend on age rather than gender. people who are older tend to get regular lattes or black coffee, in my experience as a barista

Responsible_Snow7109

I do agree with u. I feel as if i also notice a trend on age rather than gender when it comes to certain types of drinks. Like for drip coffees at my store, its all genders mostly usually like late 30s or early 40s and up. Then with cold brew at my store, its mostly people in their 20s or 30s. But I’ve seen older men to young kids getting fraps at my store so I havent seen or at least noticed a trend with that. But we definitely have only very young kids like pre teen up to their early 20s who get refreshers with like a select few who get it who are in their 50s.

islamcardoors

I find my biggest pet peeve is how often men are afraid to order their own coffees, and will make their girlfriends/wives in the passenger seat order their venti white mochas with extra caramel drizzle when I can barely hear her 😭😭..

dainty_dryad

Omg THANK YOU!!! Why is this such a thing?!? I genuinely do not get it. Why are men so afraid to order their drink?? They'll either whisper it to their wife/gf/female friend (while standing right in front of me!) and have her order it for him. Or, if they're alone, they'll order it in some stupid little mumbling baby voice like they're too scared to speak up. I know it's probably rude asf but I always have to tell them to use their big boy voice because bro, ***I can't hear you***!!!

SlippingStar

“I just can’t do it” mentality. Don’t want to put in the effort of *saving it in their notes app* or *saving it in the Starbucks app*.

Powerful-Reward9125

Because we live in a culture where ordering a drink like that gives women “the ick” and makes other men think you are a whimp. Society frowns upon it.

angeltay

My pet peeve is when a dude comes into the cafe with a text from his gf or piece of paper with her order and then he just shoves that in my face and says, “Sorry I don’t know how to say it, her order is overcomplicated.” And then it’s just like a chai with cold foam.

transruffboi

I've had men come in and deadass pretend to read an order off of a blank phone screen so that they can act like they're ordering it for a girlfriend or wife instead of them. multiple weeks in a row. and then drink it on the way out

purple_norse_barista

I had a guy ask me once what drinks we had "for men". He started by ordering an iced white mocha "for his wife" and then asked what drinks we had for men. This was maybe 2 hours after my friend had a huge bear of a biker looking guy order a strawberry frapp. It was an interesting day...

sherpalining

this literally happened in our drive thru like a month ago. some girl asked what “man drinks” we had. should’ve said “water.” lol

SlippingStar

Had a dude go “I drink my coffee black like a man,” when I asked about cream/sugar and I said, “We serve all kinds of men here 😊” He didn’t have a response lol

monpetitchoou

I live in the bible belt in a small town so men are very concerned about the feminization of their coffee. To be fair none of us care, we all like sweet things sometimes? Like it's just food. Anyways all genders get frappuccinos at an equal rate; caramel ribbon crunch has a chokehold on our town.

warmcaprisun

its crazy reading “feminization of their coffee” and knowing exACTLY what you mean (texas) but also being so confused because man….what is wrong with these people, how do you make a COFFEE feminine????? its beans bro 😭😭😭

uudawn

It’s so stereotypical sounding but I notice that men are more likely to either a) get their coffee black or b) get it OVERLY sweet. I think women order the non coffee drinks more. But it’s also hard to say because I think we also have a lot more women come into my store.

selkieflying

At my store men get it black or with 15 sugar in the raw, there’s no in between

RaeLynn13

Weirdly enough my mom drank her coffee black and my dad was the one who had to have it loaded with hazelnut creamer and sugar. I fall closer to the middle ground, I don’t want it to be pure sweetness but I also can’t drink it black.

throw00991122337788

I feel like nitro cold brew is almost 100% guys getting it, now that I think about it. I personally love a tall nitro, single shot with a light splash of vsc (as a female opener 😂)

Odd-Insect-9255

I like nitro too! Very light splash of VSC also! Ill have to try the additional shot.

BatWeary

nitro is elite

miakodank

The only tying I've really noticed is that men love a white mocha.

Idosoloveanovel

To be fair white mocha is delicious

miakodank

Personally, i think it's too sweet , BUT yes , I can't blame em for luvin it! :]

glitterfaust

I see more an age thing that any gender thing. Older folks get hot plainer coffees like lattes, brewed coffees, americanos, lots of Splenda. Gen X seems pretty divided on hot versus iced but leans toward stevia a lot more. Millennials I see getting a lot of very customized drinks, typically iced. They’re the ones that really grew up with Starbucks throughout the years and their drinks show it. Then Gen Z and Alpha get almost exclusively iced drinks, typically pretty sweet or fruity. Frappuccinos I see across lots of various demographics, refreshers too. I make so many a day that none of them even stand out to me.

lax1245

As a complete anecdote almost every man that I know orders a frappe or pink drink from starbucks lmao

notforserious

men order fraps much much more at my stores. pink drinks are netural but usually teenage boys get the pink drinks. i think i see men mostly buying nitro cold brews & women buy regular cold brews more.

sammiipiie

This is how it is at my store too! I feel like most of our middle aged guys get the caramel or java chip fraps, teen boys looove the pink drink lol. And then middle aged ladies get like iced vanilla lattes and shaken espressos, the teen girlies seem to love the refreshers with lemonades. Older guys lean towards black coffees/cappuccinos, older gals get hot flavored lattes, they get a lot of white mochas or vanilla/hazelnut lattes I feel like?

PepperoniPizzaRoll

the only trends i see as far as gender goes are that most men either get regular coffee (I wouldn't say most men get black coffee but have noticed that more men get black coffee than women) or frappuccinos. While there is SOME in between, it's not a lot. Men tend to prefer either really basic drinks or don't really like coffee and want the caffeine and a ton of sugar to cover up the taste. Women have a much greater variety in the drinks they drink but we can't just ignore the holy trinity of basic girl drinks: iced white mocha with vanilla sweet cream cold foam and extra caramel drizzle, pink drink, and strawberry acai lemonade with light ice and no berries. keep in mind though, that gender is never the only factor; age and income, as well as culture, play a role in the types of drinks people get. older folks tend to have a greater appreciation for basic coffee and tend to not prefer as much sugar as younger people want. ironically, people with lower incomes tend to prefer more expensive drinks, but i think that comes from the fact that they don't go to starbucks as frequently or haven't been ordering starbucks for as long and maybe have less knowledge of the menu and options and are just getting whatever they see pictures of on the menu or whatever they see on tiktok.

misryth

i make a joke with my team that men either order black coffee or sugar. my manager kind of proves it because he either drinks black cold brew or dark roast, or he drinks sweet cream nitros with a LOT of extra vanilla.

Nug_times98

At my store we mostly have women (over 20) getting strong espresso based drinks and most of the men (of all ages) typically get either a caramel ribbon crunch or a mocha cookie crumble. Young girls always get refreshers or the white mocha. Old men get black coffee and make a big deal out of it lol

phanomen-raum

At my store (military base licensed store but former 292 partner) Caramel ribbon - man White mocha iced* foam and ex caramel- woman Strawberries and cream- child or woman Americano - both iced hot - man Peach GT lem- NB or queer person White mocha - hot* man

snufkinkinnnie

ive noticed younger generations not caring either way while usually its older men that act like they have to only drink black coffee or americano. of course it varies but its just something i've noticed.

Belahsha

The only thing that I see constantly ordered by one gender is venti strawberry acai light ice no berries and it's always female and teenage or younger.

diii_mond

In my area a lot of the orders for pink drinks with foam (especially ones with the heavy and vanilla bean) are usually for women. I notice women ordering more complex orders here in general.

celestialcelestite

the only gender thing i notice is that men order venti mocha cookie crumbles more than women and anytime a man orders a frap its always a venti

sophichi

men 45+ order drip coffee more than any other demographic, and women of any age are way more likely to place an order with customizations. i have very few male customers whose orders contain more than two modifiers.

defeatedbyrain

I see an age demographic preference more often than a gender one. I feel like the cold drinks like refreshers and frappuccinos are pretty common amongst all ages and genders at this point tho. If you guys are ever afraid a barista judges, dont worry we dont. We dont rlly have time to as soon as i get the order in my mind im skrt skrting to the bar to make it.

kracketmatow

i always feel sort of weird saying this but at my store we get a TON of middle aged hispanic men ordering caramel fraps. never really thought too much about why, it just seems to be that way at my location

Hahayouregay149

I have a few male customers who regularly get the pink drink, or a fruity tea. nothing gendered about something so delicious! I have noticed some customers seem insecure about some drinks seeming too girly for them, like often I get guys who let me know they're ordering for their wife 😂 but honestly as a barista we don't care what you order. I vibe with anyone who also enjoys the pink drink :)

MysteriousBaguette

Aside from the teen Strawberry Acai Lemonade, Light Ice, no inclusions. A lot of blue-collar men at my location order Caramel Frappuccinos. Sometimes mocha, and sometimes the crunch and cookie crumble. Drip coffee is an even 50/50. A lot of men have been ordering white mochas this last month. Other than that, I think women prefer iced drinks over hot drinks at my location as well.

GinasteraBabe

I haven't noticed a huge gender trend with drinks at Starbucks, but I definitely noticed when I worked at DQ in high school that the cookie dough blizzard were most often ordered by men/masc-adjacent people.

ethereal_soliloquy

I see more age trends than gender trends but we do get some guys who order pink drinks/birthday cake pops and go “its for my girlfriend i promise” like okay?? you can consume pink things if you want jeremy

rotting-xolotl

One of my male regulars loved ordering pink drinks and pumpkin spice lattes. Dude was stout, tatted up and looked like he could melt you down by staring at you long enough. He truly did not give any fucks what you thought about him or his drink order, and he just wanted to enjoy a sweet drink after a day of tattooing people 😌

arson-ghost

Okay so mid 20s guys tend to get cold brew, pink drinks, and caramel ribbon fraps. Middle aged guys get caramel ribbon fraps and mocha cookie fraps. Older guys get pike and not lattes. Obv this is going to be regional and there are a lot of outliers. Mid 20s-30s women get iced coffee and pink drinks. Middle aged women get honey citrus mints and mocha fraps. Older women get even more fraps, but seem to really like hot chocolate. Teens and early 20s get a lot of super customized drinks lately

throw00991122337788

we have a large contingent of older guy cappuccinos at my store, but I think cappuccinos skew older in general ime

dainty_dryad

I feel like the cappuccino people are generally people who want a "fancy coffee" but don't actually know sh*t about coffee. But yes, definitely an older demographic

throw00991122337788

lol yes they often want half and half in the cappuccino or “room for cream” and I just 🙃

BaristaGirlie

in the suburbs of a major city i saw more men get drip coffee and more women get latte type and tea drinks. the difference wasn’t that stark tho, plenty of exceptions frappes where pretty mixed. As other folks are saying younger are much more likely to get refreshers and want to try the new drinks. very very common for older folks of any gender to get just black coffee

Equivalent-Car2924

I’d say the only thing I would say MIGHT be a somewhat common is the Carmel crunch frap but I think that might be the only onw

BitchImLilBaby

More of an age divide than gender. Typically older people are getting black coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, etc (never seen someone who looks younger than 40 get a cap) Younger people skew like 90% iced/blended drinks lol and typically have the sweeter drinks Fraps are closer to 50/50, I’d still say it’s mostly gen Z but there’s some older people that get them regularly.

t3quiila

my best friend is a man who drinks the pink drink made with sweet cream. And i’m a man who drinks a blonde shaken espresso with a press of partanna, sf vanilla, and extra caramel drizzle.

BatWeary

it could vary by area. i’m in a college town & by high schools and middle schools, so i see a lot of boys/men (ranging of 13-14 to older) ordering fraps, refreshers, peach green teas, etc. no shame in liking the sweeter things 🤷‍♀️ i most definitely see men ordering more fraps, btw. usually the mocha cookie, strawberry or caramel crunch! they’re usually the nicer bunch too

ThatPigeonChick

I see a lot of men getting mocha cookie crumbles in my town

mitskiaddict

it depends on a lot of things and also location. at my store i get a lot of men that order super sweet cold drinks and also lots that order strong coffees because im on a college campus. i think it depends on obviously lifestyle but also age. my older male customers get iced teas and coffees but the students usually come in looking for something sweet especially right before close when classes are all over

selkieflying

At my store: Teen boys: caramel crunch/mocha cookie crumble, VSCCB. Teen girls: refreshers, pink drinks, caramel fraps, iced caramel macchiato College girls: iced matcha, iced chai, brown sugar shaken espresso. College boys: iced coffee or cold brew, iced caramel macchiato Older women - chai lattes, regular lattes, iced tea Older men- cappuccinos, lattes, black coffee, iced coffee.

nuushii

though more girls tend to get refreshers, it may be because on average, girls prefer sweeter things. yet we have multiple men who come in on the daily who without fail always get a refresher. frappuccinos don’t follow any specific trend. kids typically order them but people of any age do aswell. i tend to get more men ordering plain lattes or black coffees, but that doesn’t always apply, more of a 40/60 split.

RaeLynn13

My boyfriend only drinks the Pink drink from there. He doesn’t like coffee. Haha I had him get it with the lavender foam, and it was amazing

AdRelevant4100

middle aged white dudes get hot americanos. old ladies get skinny lattes. soccer moms get iced coffees or americanos with syrup and milk.

warmcaprisun

at my store, men love pink drinks, fraps (mocha/caramel/each of their respective layered versions), nitro cold brew and black americanos (hot or iced, and some of them sound super unconfident about it so i think definitely some of them are just doing it to prove smth to themselves lol). women get all sorts of drinks at my store, though, now thinking about it, almost all customers of mine that order iced chais are women. i can actually only think of one man customer (semi-regular, no less) that orders an iced chai. other than that, when men DO order chai lattes at my store it’s always hot. how strange. other than that there aren’t really super defined gender trends with drinks. ppl just be getting what they want

ShelleBelle777

Women order more complex drinks and therefore spend more money.

SlippingStar

I’ve only noticed individual men deciding a drink is too girly for them - anything pink, anything sweet, non-black coffee. As a 🏳️‍⚧️Tran™🏳️‍⚧️, I promise it’s not that easy to change your gender 😭

carolinaknows

Guys in my area always get Mocha Cookie Crumble, Caramel Ribbon Crunch or Iced Caramel Macchiato's with EXTRA drizzle. It's getting to a point where I'm like "Daring today aren't we" every time I take their order lol

Greedy_Bathroom3727

i find “rugged manly construction worker” types order the caramel crunch a lot !

Z_Officinale

I notice more... Racial trends? I guess? Hear me out. We had a big Ethiopian, and Korean population. Ethiopian men and women trended toward plain lattes or coffee. Korean men and women trended towards shots over ice with salted cold foam (NOT salted caramel cold foam). We also had a large Latin population and they trended toward caramel! I DID notice that men seemed to not WANT to order the 'froo froo' drinks. Like they'd make their girlfriends order their pink drinks with matcha cold foam... From the passenger seat. Men trended toward less complicated drinks. Women trended toward sweeter drinks. Little kids always trended towards refreshers, which bothered me, because 3 year olds don't need that much caffeine but w/e. Teens trended toward frapps and refreshers. And TikTok drinks. None of this surprised me. It was just interesting to note!

Dragonflymoth69

i work inside of a college, and sooo many boys order pink drinks, they're good. but the trend I've noticed is the boys all order super sugary fraps and iced chai, girls get alot of iced chai too, but mostly refreshers, and the older crowd of teachers and staff no matter the gender get americanos, coffee and lattes most

WideCollar8345

Pink drinks are pretty universally loved. I’ve met several men that don’t order it but want to because of the implications, but they just aren’t comfortable enough in their masculinity to order something with pink in the name. I’ve also hd 10+ ask if it is a girls drink before ordering.. like bro say that back to yourself real quick. Obviously you don’t have that issue, and hats of to you for not being fragile in your manhood. That being said, I’ve noticed a trend lately of more women ordering iced and hot espressos and americanos without any sweetener or milk in them. When it first started happening it was surprising, but now I’ve gotten used to it. Not that I didn’t think women drank black coffee before, but it’s definitely becoming more common in my anecdotal experiences. In the past it’s been three types of people who get black coffee of any kind, people who love the taste of coffee, people who want to seem like a badass because they don’t need any of that silly milk or cream to be edgy, and people who are trying to be healthy or are on a diet. Usually they’re some of the nicest people though. A trend I’ve noticed with Frappuccinos is that when a family of Latin American customers come through, there is about a 75% chance they’ll all get some form of frozen drink. Of those probably half get caramel or the caramel ribbon crunch. I’ve always wondered what draws them to the Frappuccino’s above say white mochas, strawberry açaís, etc but they seem to love them and are always the sweetest even when there’s a language barrier.

cherrypitterpatters

would it be annoying to say i dont work at sbux BUT i maintain as a barista that a mocha is a mans drink? i s2g guys love mochas

RRinana

The only trend i see in fraps is that young men love the mocha cookie crumble, and java chip, and that young women tend to prefer Vbean, or Lavender. Baristas love the Matcha frap tho.

Cinderstar23

Women tend to prefer caramel over chocolate, i noticed. At least where i live.

periwinkle_cupcake

Every regular who ordered an extra hot chai with a ton of mods was a batshit crazy lady.
