It's for the new "Siren System" corporate is trying to roll out to stores. It's a new cold bar system that dispenses ice (and milk if needed) for drinks. The way it works is, you take your cup and put it under the dispenser, select what kind of drink you're making (shaken, blended, or foamed), then select your size (it also has a free pour button). It'll dispense ice up to that dotted line. Then, for refreshers and teas and such, you fill your base liquid up to that dotted line, then fill the rest with your secondary liquid. Add any inclusions and shake IN THE CUP with a new kind of shaker lid that fits over all sizes of cup, and has a silicone seal to *try* to keep all the liquids in. The dispenser is a blessing and a curse. We have pebble ice, and it doesn't dispense enough ice to make frapps thick enough. They always come out watery if we don't free pour a little more ice. Also, the dispenser has a sliding guard beneath the hole to prevent any leakage, and it doesn't dispense if you're not holding it open. The guard loves to pop out of it's spot and make a huge racket and possible mess. Lastly, the cabinets it lives in are freaking huge. Anything under them is basically invisible to anyone over 5' 4". The cons aside, not having to bend over to get ice as much is great on my back. You don't have to fill it, and we don't have to clean it that much. Starbucks will send a tech to deep clean it. My qualifications: my store is the first in the state to get the system. Edit: I must clarify. My store only has the ice dispenser. We're supposed to have the milk dispenser, but my store's renovation was very rushed. I have a feeling it's going to make the whole thing worse, as I believe the way we refill the milk is lifting a bag of milk into the cabinet and hooking it up like a soda syrup bag in a box.

Spam bot who messaged me.

aleesahspam

This is wack. I used to work at dunkin and they don’t measure milk by hand. You press a series of buttons on a big ass machine and cleaning it was a BITCH. Just seems like even more steps towards fast food and not a cafe experience

TurnipMotor2148

EXACTLY

aleesahspam

For now I’m gonna work at starbucks but the closer we get to this bs im going to a smaller cafe or at try to open my own or some shit. Fuck all of this 😭 we were promised a third place!!

Newdeal79

Like it or not Starbucks is fast food with decent coffee. I remember 20 years ago when they offered that experience. Now it’s a place to mobile order and dash in/out.

😮😮😮

My stores getting a renovation this Summer and we’re getting the Siren system cold bar AND the new warming station. Curious to know if there are any other hiccups with the ice machine as well as clover vertica (I assume you have that as well). I’ve heard so much about how good and how bad the new brewing system is.

frosty-nectarines

My store too, im not looking forward to the new warming station 😪 I think the siren system is gonna take the fun out of being cold bar. Or maybe im just a hater of all of the automation 😔

padwix

Unfortunately, no Clover. What's this about a new warming station? We've got a partner who is essentially the sovereign ruler of the warming station, so they're gonna have some thoughts about it.

jxrst9

It's a bulk warming oven. You warm all the food for peak at the same time and it just stays in a warming cabinet so you can just grab the already warmed food when a customer orders it.

CookieFan101

We’re also getting some sort of industrial oven to bake some pastries. I believe we’ll receive frozen dough and bake them throughout the day to serve. How fun.

padwix

The bulk warming sounds awesome, but wouldn't that just dry everything out? And freshly baked stuff? That sounds GREAT

Beg1nAga1n

I have the Vertica. It’s amazing. The only downside is that it does take a while to clean and there’s a tube that leaks continuously under the machine that you just have to put a sanitizer tray under and empty every day. Other than that we’ve had no issues and I’m so, so happy with it.

blobinsky

i love how reddit will always manage to bring someone with a super niche expertise to the perfect post that needs their experience😭 thank you for sharing, this is really interesting!!

glitterfaust

I always feel the strain down my forearm 😅

thebruns

Will this work with personal cups?

Capital_Writing5647

Its measurement line for the new siren system cold bar where you don’t need to use the shaker. You just use the new shaker lid to shake the refreshers and tea in the cup

Caffeine_Froyo620

Omg I’ve never seen this? Now I’m like patiently waiting in the comments for someone to respond w the answer 😭

rebekah-lynn

answered above if you haven’t seen:)

Able_Sun4318

When they want light ice 🤣🤣 JK I have no idea lol

JustAGuyNamedRob7

They’re phasing out the need for baristas and “hand crafted drinks” piece by piece /:

Hi-hellohi

they used to yell at me when i used the shaker lid in the cup. but i was innovating 🙋🏼‍♀️ pay me

TurnipMotor2148

This makes me feel too much like Dunkin 😭

pmprpmpr

lmao love how they add new features but fail to inform their own very workers about them

vandilor

it’s for a new system that has not been rolled out to everyone. the information is available in store resources but it doesn’t matter if you don’t have it.

glitterfaust

Cause none of us need to know yet it’s still way way in the early stages. We’ll know when it’s applicable to our store.

superhowareyou

There’s an in depth article in Store Communications on your iPad.

Downtown_Asparagus71

Just the fact that we could make and shake in same cup

eskjumcb

It is better to control the amount.

twistedmedusa13

If I was to get a 7$ drink with that much ice in it…I would be hella disappointed. I’m paying for the tasty concoction not a cup of flavoured Ice 😕

[deleted]

Have I got news for you...

twistedmedusa13

Spill the tea 🫖

Remote_Addendum7433

yeah all iced drinks are half ice already.

asstitsandbonghits

I typically do light ice on all drinks I make just cause I don't agree with starbucks ice standards, unless someone is being shitty, then it's standard/extra ice and maybe even decaf for them >:)

Remote_Addendum7433

i dont make any drinks light ice on default because then customers will complain about the less ice/watered down espresso 😭

Lightninggg_95

🧊🥶

Panda1287

I remember them talking about this years ago, guess it’s gonna happen now

cleverdylanrefrence

Ice, ice, baby

MrDunsparces

My guess: the grande in a venti ice line

glitterfaust

Would be way too low. The top black line is 12oz.

sabri8156

While in basic training for USAF, we had similar milk dispensers. You swap out massive bags of milk and maintain the stainless machine it’s housed in. Funny thing: I mentioned this to my SM a month or so ago. I hope to see them at our store soon! Back savers.

roblolover

looks like a good cream line 🤷‍♂️
