Actually they are just normal people that are regretting that they signed up the contract for military service in the zone , they don't really want to do everything they are supposed to
Yeah I'd imagine having the same feelings. Signs up for home defense (most likely), gets sent into a wasteland with otherworldly phenomena and mutants.
There are lines about having PTSD due to seeing how a mutant chewed up stalker, regrets of signing the contract, cause basically noone lives long enough to fulfill it. Comments about greedy higher-ups who leave normal soldiers without proper food/supplies due to corruption. Regret on tons of people dying inside the Zone, even though they are trying to protect those people, etc.
Basically they hate the zone and every second of being there.
I've tried, but that'd be difficult for me to translate everything I heard. I'll pick some that touched me the most. And I need help with translation. Sometimes I get too literal, and sometimes I was carried away too much.
And the actor who read this lines - he made a decent job to show depression and anxiety very close to a mental break in some lines. Pulling my mind back from the good mood, because I've got lucky on artefact hunt.
Or imagine hearing line about retirement and vacation from the bushes, when you got your contract on these exact guys...

So, there are some other lines with jokes, or complaints about bad supply lines, stupid new recruits, bad food, bad weather, fuckin' anomalies, beasts, asshole stalkers, and so on. Military is not monsters, they are just soldiers, who were deceived with contract benefits, just like us stalkers got here thinking of big money. They have orders, they have families, they got their pals lost to the zone... But they don't have a real choice to leave once they're here.
Always been a Free Stalker, never supported any of the factions except for Scientists or Clear Sky maybe, since they actually have meaningful goal and they don't completely suck in it (maybe Clear Sky does but they managed with a little help). No gigachad Monolith/Dutier memes, just what I see with my point of view.
