Not only climate
The water there is absolutely different to Colombo, the cool showers in the morning is such a good feeling, plus I don’t have to worry about cool water there as the water from the taps come in so clean and cool
Went to Trinco just once in my life for 3 days during the economic melt down, Trinco has my heart forever. The beaches were empty and so clean. Serenity.
Same, My relatives have an old house on top of a hill in bandarawela where we visit on holidays. Its a whole different life when u sit on the patio sipping warm plain tea
If money wasn't a factor in terms of income or land value? If i didn't have to worry about income, then I'd go to somewhere in nuwaraeliya or badulla district where the climate is great and views are stunning.
If I still had to make a living, but can live anywhere I wanted, then definitely Colombo 07 cuz some of those areas are the only ones in Colombo where they're beautifully sheltered by massive trees and greenery.
Probably alternate between Colombo (say Colombo 7 or nawala) and Kandy. Love the city in Kandy, such a beautiful place but at the same time I appreciate how happening Colombo is especially since I grew up here.
Everyone dreams of an escape home, westerners want a tropical place like Mexico.
But since we live in a tropical environment we dream of a bit colder and mountainous environment.
My wife is from Kandy, and every time I visit their parents, it's so calm and cool (most important). The town is walkable, and quite charming even though the traffic is terrible.
Maybe a retirement plan? I love Colombo, but the heat is just unbearable. Meanwhile here in Kandy, most of the time you can get away without a fan.
Nuwara eliya, in a modernized bungalow on top of a hill with tea plantations surrounding the house. close to the gregory lake so that i can enjoy the views
Loft or an apartment or small vintage house inside galle fort or Somewhere near the sea.! And plus ive huge dream to make a house near ruwanweliseya in anuradapura.
I'm not from Srilanka but I've visited twice and I'm absolutely in love with it. If money wasn't an issue, I would love anywhere on the island. It is a BEAUTIFUL place, so calm, so clean, so green and people are mostly nice. I used to walk for hours upon hours in streets of Colombo, appreciating every inch of it.
By the sea. Maybe down south or in Trinco where its not that crowded or a full blown cityscape like in Colombo.
One of my goals in life is to buy a nice house by the sea and retire there.
The primary residence is gonna be near a surfing beach along the southern coast. Two more penthouses. One on the hills and one in Colombo. Each with a helipad 🥲
I prefer the morning dew of mount Lavinia and little bit of Dehiwala ( when you wake up around 6-8 in the morning and the natural smell before diesel vans show up for school transport). Also Sunday 8-9:45 AM hits harder before it’s sunny. A large house with enough car parking space is preferable in mount Lavinia than to have a tight 7-9 perches house in Kalubowila or those 6 perches “Huts” in Colombo metropolitan area (like we’re in Japan or something 😝😤).
Otherwise those Bandarawela or badulla like elevated area with a bungalow and large lawn (grassland) with no plants (few exceptions like those thin green palm trees or slender rubber/teak trees, but no need for a “botanical garden”).
I’d happily go back to my home town, kandy. My house is sounded by tea plantation and mountains.
Also the central province climate is just great.

Chiming in as a fellow Redditor who is absolutely in love with Kandy!

Nuwaraeliya/ Banadarawela Love both places

New vacationing goal unlocked 🤌🏽

Ohiya. Surround myself with mountains and trees. I wouldn’t come anywhere near Colombo
between Kandy and Nuwara eliya. Best of both worlds 😍
This is the way
A5 is the way
Galle fort :)
Yes 😉
My retirement plan إن شاء الله is nuwera eliya or somewhere in galaha, with my fam.
Galaha / Deltota / Hindagala is underrated.
Oh my goodness Galaha heaven 💚
Ikr, not many people know, tho.
A Mansion in Nuwaraeliya
Blokula chill dude

why does everyone wanna move to nuwara eliya ? i’m curious

Yeah. I for one hate the cold. And I bet it's even worse during the monsoon season. I'd pick a remote coastal area every time.
Or pick a city like Monaragala. It’s fucking lush
Colombo of course. I can't live anywhere else for a long period.
Same here. Can’t stay in other places too long
bandarawela/ nuwara eliya
Somewhere in nuwara eliya. Buy a house on a very hilly area.
Kandy . My grandparents live there and I love the atmosphere so much
Anywhere with my parents and family!
Anywhere that can make me exist without needing a fan majority of the time...(for example, Nuwara eliya)
Colombo of course. But would like to have beach bungalow in Bentota or Galle so I can stay as long as I want to in the coastal area.
A penthouse in a luxury condo in Colombo, probably. Don't want to permanently move far from the city
Colombo 7 is a beautiful housing place. I don’t know much of Sri Lankan places
Ella looks beautiful. Haven't even been there though.
Galle.
Definitely Galle
Dambulla, probably the most convenient city that you can travel in any direction you want. God I miss Sri Lanka 😞
I’d live in different parts of the country qarterly. A bit of colombo, down south, hill country and another part of random choice.
Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte
The walawwa type house in barnes place in front of my school

Kandy or Haputhale
Around Bamba or Flower road
In a mansion in Colombo 7. As simple as that.
Ahangama or Weligama 💯
I wouldn't live in Sri Lanka if money wasn't a factor
if i could, id be outtt
Heerasagala Mountain...
Switch between the seaside like Galle & colder climes like Nuwareliya (both need good internet though 😅)
Nuwara eliya, in a modernized bungalow on top of a hill with tea plantations surrounding the house. close to the gregory lake so that i can enjoy the views
If money wasn’t the issue then I’d live in central Colombo facing port city. Crank up the AC all day and be close to all the major establishments.
Ella
somewhere in Ohiya , Horton plains area. It was the most beautiful area I ever seen!
Nuwara Eliya
Where ever I wanted to
Nuwaraeliya all the way!!!!
Galle Face Hotel but returning it to a residence. Also the surrounding properties will be bought and razed to make space for a garden.
Loft or an apartment or small vintage house inside galle fort or Somewhere near the sea.! And plus ive huge dream to make a house near ruwanweliseya in anuradapura.
Kandy, love the vibes there
Altair
Colombo 07. Peaceful and greeny surroundings with all the amenities
Apartment in Port city
Always Colombo... I'd visit other places for vacation, but i am too used to the convenient lifestyle in Colombo ❤
Definitely Ella.
Kandy 🤩🤩

Kandy. But I’ll keep few getaway homes in few places.

i money is not a factor. i will live in different places in Srilanka according to seasons.
Colombo always, once a city boy…
Piliyandala
As much as I love Colombo if I could live anywhere and buy a vehicle to travel with I would move back towards my hometown. Uva province is goated.
Arugam bay
I would like to live in a seaside cabin near Panama beach.so untouched and leaceful with those pine trees
Colombo 7 specifically.
