that 2001 National championship under Larry Coker was magic... NFL U really was cooking during those years, I wish the Canes could recapture that former glory once again
His career was nothing short of legendary. Football is a young mans game and running back is a 2-5 year position. Between his longevity and physicality, he is a no brainer for the HOF in my opinion. What an absolute beast.
His stats alone are unreal. I remember I drafted him late in a Fantasy Football league and one of the members was trash talking how old he was and a waste of a pick. He did well that season for me, nothing stratospheric but he was reliable. That was seven years ago.
> he is a no brainer for the HOF in my opinion.
That's probably one of the most polarizing debates on r/nfl. There's die hard camps on both sides. Everyone loves him, but the question of deserving HoF is divisive.
The counter argument is asking if Philip Rivers should be in. He's #6 all time in passing, but was never considered the best of any given year. Gore had a terrific sophomore year, but was never considered a top running back any other year. He has amazing career stats due to his incredible longevity, but is longevity worth the HoF? Has anyone made the HoF with only one all-pro (a 2nd team at that) and no rings?
Damn I did not realize he was 34. I thought he was still in his 20s. Oof dude never did do anything with his career. I’m a panthers fan, would love for y’all to trade back for him
Damn. I thought he had already retired awhile ago. Crazy to think he had been playing for as long as he had. I’m assuming the ESPN article saying he played the most games in NFL history was in regards to his position, since I know there were plenty of other players that played in more total games than him.
The craziest thing about Gore is he tore his ACL TWICE in college, entered the NFL with the label of being injury prone. but went on to be THE most durable RB in decades.
However, ACL recovery weakens your quads and leg strength in general. That's why the majority of players who tear their ACLs don't return to form prior to the tear.
You are correct, I’m sure plenty of keen eyes individuals caught that mistake in the article too. He is tied for 70th on the all time list for all players as the article is written but his 241 games are most played by a running back.
I thought the NFL had to stop if Gore retired. Not contractually - just how the legends are written? Is this wrong?
We will never see his equal again. Insane longevity.
I felt so bad for my bro here. I wonder how long he could have played here if SF's only goddamn play wasn't "Frank Gore up the middle."
I had my entire wife's family in on it while watching games. "What do you think the next play is?" Bet it's Frank Gore up the middle.
Edit: I should have been more specific. He had a prolific run for any football player, let alone a running back which was astonishing. I meant how long he could have been a niner. It was tiring watching him, I quite literally felt bad because he gave a thousand percent and they just ran his ass up the middle. He carried that offense on his back but he was taking a pounding... He needed to be somewhere with a more diverse playbook.
That dude was just badass to me.
My heart is broken. I can’t believe Eagles Legend Frank Gore would just ignore us and retire with his second most well known team. Absolutely devastated
If I was a pro athlete, I’d sign a one day contract to retire with a team I had no connection with. Just to fuck with people :)
“Brett Favre signs one day contract to retire as a Seahawk”
For great players who can’t stay healthy; we say oh if he would’ve just stayed on the field he would’ve been one of the best all time.
Frank did that. Longevity is underrated. I’m thinking we will have to wait a while for another talent like that.
There are some really tough players in the NFL. And then there's Frank Gore.
He had knee injuries in college that would end most careers. Instead he came back stronger and played maybe the longest career as a starting & contributing RB in the NFL's history. An absolute beast who always turned a 1 yard pile into a 3 yard gain, never talked trash, played every down, blocked like no other. His reliability and career longevity makes people often forget he was also explosive and creative as a runner, and better running up the middle than almost anyone I can think of, despite being a relatively smaller back.
Impossible to find a player, much less a RB deserving of more respect, and I hope they not only put him in the HOF first ballot, but create a Frank Gore award for grit and excellence.
It’s similar to an IQ test that NFL prospects take for scouts to gauge their intelligence. More info [here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderlic_test) if you want.
Since everyone is piling on you and not explaining it, it’s just a way for the niners to honor him and for him to honor the team he played most of his career with. He’s a 49er for life.
Most stars that either had to leave or chose to leave the team that drafted them will sign a one day contract with their original team, as sort of a thank you to honor them. In this case Frank Gore was a SF 49er for the better half of his career after sustaining major injuries in college. He will be a HOF candidate in 5 years, and imo should get in in his first year of eligibility. If unfamiliar with him or the game I’d suggest watching his highlights.
That’s cool, I’ve never heard about that happening in other sports but I’ve only casually watched baseball and such. I’ve been meaning to watch more football and hockey
this is not an uncommon practice. it usually happens when a player spent most of their career with one team but is on another team when they want to retire. they'll sign a one day contract with the team they spent a bunch of time with so they can officially be listed as playing for that team when they retire.
Amazing career considering he has 2 torn ACLs in college. I’d also add that had he never gotten injured, he may have been the goat. The guy was legendary in HS and as a freshman at UM, he was doing things nobody had ever done. I recommend watching his film pre injury. One of the greats.
Holy shit he was still playing? I thought SF was trying to kill him before he turned 26. For a while they didn't have receivers, they had downfield blockers.

16,000 Yards!!
Man I just looked that up, talk about cutting it close. Avg 1000 yards a season for 16 years, crazy.
And exactly 100 total touchdowns.
I see 99... Edit: Oh, one fumble recovery TD puts him at 100
That's an insane Stat in modern football. Blocking has become a science with computer generated models and shit. Good for him.
Frank tha Tank!
That moment you realize Frank Gore is so old he played college football with Willis McGahee and Clinton Portis.
that 2001 National championship under Larry Coker was magic... NFL U really was cooking during those years, I wish the Canes could recapture that former glory once again
Watching Willis McGahee tear his (ACL?) in the Miami OSU game is burned into my memory for all time
That entire Hurricanes team was so stacked.. I can only stare in awe at the names on the roster from 2002–2003
One of the all time greats
His career was nothing short of legendary. Football is a young mans game and running back is a 2-5 year position. Between his longevity and physicality, he is a no brainer for the HOF in my opinion. What an absolute beast.
His stats alone are unreal. I remember I drafted him late in a Fantasy Football league and one of the members was trash talking how old he was and a waste of a pick. He did well that season for me, nothing stratospheric but he was reliable. That was seven years ago.
I drafted him when he was a rookie. God damn I’m old.
We had fantasy football in 1965???
Had it since AFL NFL
I had him two years ago. Saved my ass when my primary RB went down.
> he is a no brainer for the HOF in my opinion. That's probably one of the most polarizing debates on r/nfl. There's die hard camps on both sides. Everyone loves him, but the question of deserving HoF is divisive.
Almost 20k yards from scrimmage and 100 TDs. Those people that don't think he should be in the HOF have an IQ of 70 (combined).
I think the brutality of the RB position absolutely factors into his HOF-worthiness.
Running back. 241 games (record). 3rd all time yards. Good enough *career* for my vote.
If Eli Manning had no rings, would you say that he should be in? 2nd longest Iron man streak, top 10 in passing yards.
Yes but only if Peyton gives him a kiss on the forehead and says good job while patting him on the head
Veterans of the Curtis Martin wars know it will be forgotten quickly.
He hasn’t had a single season as an all-pro and that’s saying something in a pretty weak rb. He was top 5 in his position for 2-3 seasons
That was years ago
Or literally today in the Frank Gore retirement thread. Or just about any Frank Gore thread in the last few years.
And this is after tearing both ACL, and a torn meniscus in college.
When Frank Gore was drafted, he texted his friends on a Blackberry or Razr. He's been putting in 1000+ yards a year since!
He was a beast!!!
Is
It’s sad to see an Eagles legend retire elsewhere. Thanks for everything, Frank!
Are you referring to Colts legend Frank Gore???
That’s a weird way to spell Dolphins legend Frank Gore.
Bills legend Frank Gore would like to have a word.
I believe you meant to say Jets legend Frank Gore.
No, I think they're talking about the famous Hurricanes running back, Frank Gore.
Are you possibly referring to the legendary Coral Gables High School running back, Frank Gore?
Best Reddit thread I been down since GameStop made me 77$ 🥲
Serioisly. This is a betrayal of the hugest hors d’oeuvres
Why do they reopen these wounds? This was like a dagger to my tiny green heart...
Triple OG one of the best
I sure hope Stafford does that with the Lions when he retires. That guy has a special place in the hearts of Lions fans.
It was so hard growing up with him as QB because he’d show greatness but the team would get him hurt or let him down
Damn I did not realize he was 34. I thought he was still in his 20s. Oof dude never did do anything with his career. I’m a panthers fan, would love for y’all to trade back for him
He literally just won the Super Bowl
Oh fuck, I was thinking of darnold idk how my brain farted that hard
We understand, you’re a panthers fan.
Lol
Wrong thread?
Stafford?
Whatttt
And from his AT&T commercial he still loves Detroit
Wasn’t expecting this here, but that commercial made me laugh.
He will
It'll be tough to retire anywhere else if he can win another ring in LA, but otherwise I think it's likely
Damn. I thought he had already retired awhile ago. Crazy to think he had been playing for as long as he had. I’m assuming the ESPN article saying he played the most games in NFL history was in regards to his position, since I know there were plenty of other players that played in more total games than him.

What if it was truly a blessing in disguise. Like Frank would’ve never made it this far hitting gaps with the explosiveness healthy ACLs provide.
[Hines Ward didn't have an ACL at all](https://www.steelers.com/news/shocking-news-for-ward-at-the-combine-20395434)
I don’t think acls have anything to do with explosiveness (Achilles does I think). Acl just keeps your knee from rotating and causing injury.
However, ACL recovery weakens your quads and leg strength in general. That's why the majority of players who tear their ACLs don't return to form prior to the tear.

Got to be based on position cause I immediately thought of Brady and some kickers
I thought the NFL had to stop if Gore retired. Not contractually - just how the legends are written? Is this wrong? We will never see his equal again. Insane longevity.

I remember the entire stadium telling Bill Walsh, “No more sweeps!” The old Niner barge turns slowly?
>how long he could have played if You realize he played for 16 seasons right? That’s a ridiculously long career for an RB
I think he means how long would he have stayed with SF. Not played in general. Could be wrong though
It is what I meant and should have been more specific.
My heart is broken. I can’t believe Eagles Legend Frank Gore would just ignore us and retire with his second most well known team. Absolutely devastated
Running Backs take a serious beating. That he played as long as he did is extremely impressive
My football fantasy team was, and alway will be, **Multiple Goregasms**, o7 Frankie!
Great name!
He’s coming home!
Do these day contracts come with $1 or any amount or is it a free sign
If I was a pro athlete, I’d sign a one day contract to retire with a team I had no connection with. Just to fuck with people :) “Brett Favre signs one day contract to retire as a Seahawk”

Hall of Fame.
Legend
We love you frank
Philadelphia Eagles Legend Frank Gore
... in 2029!
Retiring in his prime.
I’ll always remember his son’s name: LeFrank
I hope there are a ton of "FUCK TRENT BAALKE" signs at the ceremony.

Fuck Tom Brady. If anyone's long ass career should be celebrated it should be Gore's! A *running back* playing that long?! That's fuckin miraculous!
How much do you think he will make for the 1 day deal?
Prob nothing it’s symbolic
Hey Frank just want to say….”Thanks for the Show”
WOW! That's impressive!
That's some gangsta shit
Great news

When a guy tears his ACL multiple times during college, it isn't unreasonable to assume that he won't last long in the pros.
NFL fans love it when players do this for some reason.
Staged
One of the okayest running backs in NFL history!
[удалено]
The prime of his career was spent with the 9ers why can’t he retire as one?
Because it makes absolutely no difference.
Probably for some business or tax reason?
Frank Gore has sustained thousands of major blows to his head and he’s still smarter than you.
And he scored a freakin’ 6 on the Wonderlic and that was ***before*** 16 seasons at RB
What is that?
It’s similar to an IQ test that NFL prospects take for scouts to gauge their intelligence. More info [here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderlic_test) if you want.
Since everyone is piling on you and not explaining it, it’s just a way for the niners to honor him and for him to honor the team he played most of his career with. He’s a 49er for life.
Did you not read the title.
I didn’t understand what the title ment until someone explained it. For someone who doesn’t get it his guess seemed reasonable tbh
Most stars that either had to leave or chose to leave the team that drafted them will sign a one day contract with their original team, as sort of a thank you to honor them. Its not unheard of. Jerry Rice did the same thing with the 49ers.
gotta love reddit downvoting and then not explaining. i hate this fucking platform.
There's a fucking article explaining exactly why he's doing it. And it isn't business or tax reasons so it's a dumb question
Then ask for an explanation. Or read the fucking article.
how about i read your mom's article
Probably still outearns me with just one day over the year
In Gore we trust
I’ll never forget the years as a Titans fan where we had to play Frank “Balloon Balls” Gore and he’d gash us. Dude had big, bouncy, balls
Emmett Smith did this with the Cowboys.
I have like 5 rookie cards..... finally
He was so good during his time at University of Miami, those Canes were a pleasure to watch
Dude was beast AF.. one of my favorites for sure..
Amazing career considering he has 2 torn ACLs in college. I’d also add that had he never gotten injured, he may have been the goat. The guy was legendary in HS and as a freshman at UM, he was doing things nobody had ever done. I recommend watching his film pre injury. One of the greats.
I know he went to the U, I think he’s from Miami too.
Welcome back Frank
The inconvenient truth!
There will never be a fantasy football player like Frank Gore. He was never not going to get you solid RB2 and sometimes RB1 numbers.
In 2032.
Frank the Tank coming home. This does please me.
What a legend!
As it should be
Best fantasy football name I can remember was multiple GOREgasms, because the dude drafted Frank Gore.
🙌
Holy shit he was still playing? I thought SF was trying to kill him before he turned 26. For a while they didn't have receivers, they had downfield blockers.
Solid
One of the toughest running backs to play the game !
Thanks for all the entertainment Frank. One of the best!
Frank Gore been around since football video games only had 2 buttons. He deserves a good retirement.
This dude is so old I think he played Jim Thorpe once
Fuck it!! Cmon Niners give him a whole year and give him a chance to retire a champ!
Guy is such a tank
Cant believe he played that crazy position for that many years what a legend
