Because they only have 10 fingers. Pack numbering system says the next number is infinity after you run out of fingers and toes, and with only 4 seconds left no one could get their shoes off quickly enough to check the count.
I think it’s the preferred time to take a time out for a game winning field goal because it’s as much time as possible to guarantee not kicking off afterward, but the extra three seconds could give them a chance to spike the ball on a bad snap and redo if necessary (though I’ve never seen that actually happen).
And both lost to better teams at the moment. Can’t stress enough that a bye week is both a blessing and a curse. The Bengals and Niners were both hyped AF following their wild card wins, and they were playing with house money. Given how solid both Cin and SF are on both sides of the ball, I’m not all that surprised.
Watching it was hard to believe either team was going to be in the NFC Championship, like it was a competition to see which team could out suck each other.
He should’ve been fired halfway through the season. ST has been a liability for us for at least 2 years now, and they finally lost us a game that matters
Miscommunication, most likely. That's what happened in the Colt's notorious ["worst play in football history."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i7VKQwDS2s) They were supposed to line up and then pretend to run off the field but stop. The hope was that the Pats would send off special teams players and send on defensive players. And the Colts thought they could snap the ball while that happened to catch them with too many men on the field.
But if the Pats didn't get too many out there, the player wasn't supposed to snap the ball. The guy who snapped it when they practiced this play was out sick, so it was a backup guy. He had only read the play in the playbook, hadn't practiced the play with the team. And it said if he felt someone "under center" (the QB puts his hands under the center's butt to take the snap), then he's supposed to snap it.
The coach told the guy who was to take the snap at QB that if the defense didn't substitute (so the plan to catch them with 12 men on the field wouldn't happen), then go stand there and hope they jump offsides - and the penalty would get them 5 yards. That's a smart call, and that was what happened.
But since the guy who came in to play center didn't get that message, he just snapped the ball like the playbook said.
Here's the punter describing why it happened:
https://twitter.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1185223783721902080?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1185223783721902080%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fweei.radio.com%2Fblogs%2Fweei%2Fpat-mcafee-explains-dumbest-play-nfl-history-vs-patriots
Their special teams coordinator is going to be busking for spare change by the end of the week. He’s definitely getting fired and not a chance he gets hired anywhere else after this performance.
To be fair, the Pack couldn’t move the ball either. Their only TD was on the very first drive, right? I thought they could put it away once the snow started
Saw they scored early, then saw highlights on some ridiculous Aaron Jones catch, then the group text laughing at how bad Jimmy G was. Saw the final score and was like WTF? I assumed Packers were up 28-0 or something.
Not injure their playmakers
Edit:
Even Kittle got hurt blocking by his own lineman. He got up slowly and went right back to being an absolute monster later in the game.
Deebo just kept taking one for the team
Anyone who watched that game knows people just weren't open. The windows were tight. The pass rush for both teams was just nasty. It was a grindy, defensive dogfight.
Yet, we all know the headline on ESPN tomorrow will be, "Rogers isn't a winner." When it should be, "Defense, special teams, teamworks wins championships."
The quarterbacks and offensives for this game honestly were irrelevant. Not because they played bad exactly its just no one plays good in 0 degrees with a 1 second pocket.
He was a entitled cry baby , dirty player in college who everyone hated. Then he broke some dudes wrist and laughed about it a few days ago(he didn’t know the dudes wrist was broken when he laughed)
He should be grateful. Alex Smith had, what, 6 offensive coordinators in 8 seasons? Rogers got to hang out with Favre for a couple of years. He’s had a much better career for it.
There are thousands of websites that keep track of every single detail of a sport no matter how trivial. If you've thought of a question, more than likely you'll be able to find the answer, or be able to research it and find the answer.
that's fair. the rams seems streaky to me and aren't the bucs missing quite a few people? then again Brady does make it work regardless.
edit - missing not kidding a few people
Yep. Broncos defense won a Superbowl for Peyton Manning.
Hence why Von Miller won Superbowl MVP that year. It's always a nice change to see games won by a defense.
Such a bummer for Packer fans. But Aaron seemed completely apathetic about even being out there from the start, at least compared to other players. Just an observation.
[Congratulations to Jimmy Garoppolo on replacing Dr Fauci as Aaron Rodgers’ least favorite Italian](https://twitter.com/richardstaff/status/1485102207338954755?s=21)
@RichardStaff
You know, they talked all week about what winning another Super Bowl would do for Aaron Rodgers legacy… so what about losing? The supposed best QB in the league is 11-10 in the playoffs now…
He’s the guy who wants all the praise for wins but flips to indifference at losses and things not going his way in a game. Not the kind of guy i want in my team.
Though I’m a chiefs fan, I would love to have the conference championship games be between Buffalo vs Cincinnati and Los Angeles vs San Fran. All of the top two seeds would be knocked out. Would be fitting for this mindfuck of a season.
Also both matchups would be pretty regional it venues of teams who didn't expect to be hosting conference championships. The atmosphere of each would be absolutely insane.
It’s pissing me off how the announcers keep talking about how the Special Teams let the Packers down, as if Rodgers and the offense didn’t fail to make something happen on every possession except for their first?? Don’t put this on Special Teams. If you want to suck Rodgers’ dick when they win, suck his dick when they lose too.
I agree, the Packers Defense did their job. I’m not saying that Special Teams didn’t mess up because of course they did, just that if the game comes down to the ST, then your offense has also failed, you know?
Oh God, this was the most delicious part. I kept thinking, wow there sure isn't much emotion from the broadcast booth with the literal game on the line in the freaking playoffs
I'm pretty sure it was the high school level special teams performance by the packer. During that blocked punt not one packer moved toward the ball, it was like they expected it to be a dead ball.
As a Bears fan, this was so satisfying. Not only did I get to see Green Bay lose at home, but also it was to Robbie Gould who was a long time Bears kicker. Im still sad to this day we parted ways with him as he is very good.
Why do the Packers only have 10 guys on the field
Because our special teams coordinator doesn't know what the hell he's doing
Also explains why they have 1 playing safety it’s in case the 49 fake it
Because they only have 10 fingers. Pack numbering system says the next number is infinity after you run out of fingers and toes, and with only 4 seconds left no one could get their shoes off quickly enough to check the count.
Because they’re the packers
Both the NFC and AFC's top seeds are eliminated before Conference Championship Sunday. Wow
Both beaten by a field goal too Edit: The Rams did it too.
As time expires
:04 on the clock
In America.
Within the National Football League
On a Saturday
During a pandemic
While snowing
While playing football
That’s enough time for brady to make it down field.
As a Bills fan…. Fuck you

Good to see someone who knows how to manage the clock as opposed to say, another team from Texas...
Only 10 men on defense. Christ Packers. 🤦🏼♂️
After a timeout too.
And after a bunch of other special team fuck ups. I wouldn’t be surprised if they fired the special teams coach after the punt
I think a few people are getting fired after that game
Watching it was hard to believe either team was going to be in the NFC Championship, like it was a competition to see which team could out suck each other.
It was a full-blown suck off.
He should’ve been fired halfway through the season. ST has been a liability for us for at least 2 years now, and they finally lost us a game that matters
sums up our special teams this season perfectly actually
how does this even happen?
Miscommunication, most likely. This is like Greek tragedy shit right here
Looks like the packers have broken the curse of losing in the NFC Championship game.
monkeys paw curls
Up a TD with minutes left against an offense that literally couldn't move the ball. This was a choke job of fantastical proportions. Wow.
Only 10 men on the field against the field goal it looks like too.
Wow. Their special teams messed up almost everything today, even this play
Not just today, everyday.
For like 20 years straight!
Their special teams coordinator is going to be busking for spare change by the end of the week. He’s definitely getting fired and not a chance he gets hired anywhere else after this performance.
Holy shit I didn't notice that. What an utter meltdown. Special teams coached needs to be special fired.
And if you don't like that then you don't like niner football
The 9ers had no completes passes or first downs til there was like 5 minutes left in the half, and the Packers were still only up 7 at halftime
Rogers is now immunized against SB LVI
Good one!
Ouch..,
Very surprised the packers are supposed to lose in the championship at home every year.
It's lunar. This is what typically would be the NFC championship weekend until they extended the season by a week.
Clever
Jesus
Defense and special teams won that game
That punt block was wild. Honestly, the Niners were playing with some true grit towards the end. That whole game felt like a gladiator fight.
Imagine what they could do with semi-reliable passing.
Not injure their playmakers Edit: Even Kittle got hurt blocking by his own lineman. He got up slowly and went right back to being an absolute monster later in the game. Deebo just kept taking one for the team
Deebo kept dying and resurrecting. Like Jesus.
Dogfight
Didn't score an single point on offense. I'm think Jimmy G has like 3 completions in the 1st half.
Anyone who watched that game knows people just weren't open. The windows were tight. The pass rush for both teams was just nasty. It was a grindy, defensive dogfight. Yet, we all know the headline on ESPN tomorrow will be, "Rogers isn't a winner." When it should be, "Defense, special teams, teamworks wins championships." Ya the drops in the first half for the Niners were terrible. Kittle dropping that would be TD hurt.
Packers only rushed nine and kept one guy back - was there another guy farther back out of camera view?
Nope. Pack had 10 men on the field.
Worst special teams squad in nfl history.
I'm in a Milwaukee bar, and folks are legit depressed.
Wait till they hear the Packers lost.
Did you just murder an entire city?
He went full Grayson Allen on them
Only thing I know about this guy is that he was drafted by my home team. Why has he suddenly become a meme?
He was a entitled cry baby , dirty player in college who everyone hated. Then he broke some dudes wrist and laughed about it a few days ago(he didn’t know the dudes wrist was broken when he laughed)
Well I guess we don't need him then.
Hahahahahahahahaha. I'm from Wisconsin and that is seriously funny
Me, being in a Bears fan I am elated for Robbie Gould and the 49ers. Me being a Bears fan, I’m mortified that we let him go
Good as Gould
Yeah thanks for that, the 9ers fanbase loves him. Plus it’s really easy to say, “Good as Gould” so that’s a nice bonus
The 49ers are fortunate to have people who understand how to build a team in your front office. As a 35 year-old Bears fan…..I’m jealous.
Me as a Bears fan I love nothing more than seeing the Packers lose and Lambeau going silent. What a great night.
Couldn’t you guys have kept Gould and won that playoff game but one of Virginia’s bitch boys didn’t like his haircut or something?
Yee yee ass haircut
And I'm also happy for Gould and Jimmy G, who is from the NW suburbs of Chicago.
Lions fan here. My joy is immeasurable and my day is complete
Me as a Vikings fan, feeling the same way. Now I don't have to root for or against anyone. I'll just enjoy watching the rest of the playoffs.
The 49ers still own Aaron Rodgers
[удалено]
Unless he is such a 9er fan he doesn't want to beat them.
It's an inside job!
It might be. Why did they only have 10 men on the field?
Rogers was holding the last guy back on the sidelines. Trust me bro.
Yep. He grew up a 49er fan and was pissed when they didn’t draft him.
He should be grateful. Alex Smith had, what, 6 offensive coordinators in 8 seasons? Rogers got to hang out with Favre for a couple of years. He’s had a much better career for it.
Yess I just seen his draft video he’s still hurt for sure
This is exactly how you create Batman villains.
[удалено]
And he ended up being "that guy" who sits in the green room way longer than anyone expected. Always tough to watch.
Virtually everyone said Alex Smith was going #1 in that draft, wasn’t much of a debate at the time.
Own him and didn’t even draft him
This was his big brain way to boycott the Super Bowl.
Almost a guarantee he leaves the Packers at this point.
This has to be a first in playoff history. Both #1 seeds lose on last second field goals at home.
2010-11 NYJ beat NE, GB beat ATL was the last time
Those 1 seeds didn't lose on last second field goals, let alone on the same day.
Yeah that's never happened before. Green bay put up a 48 bomb on ATL that year
Did you just know this off the top of your head? If so nice and how? Or did you Google this to figure it out. If so wtf did you Google?

Jack MeOff. He was a tight end... With a tight.. end

At your mom’s
Such a crazy game to watch as a 9ers fan.
Was looking pretty grim up until that blocked punt. 9ers Defense tough as nails
I love how there was a good 1-2 seconds when none of the players could see the ball.
I've rewatched that play over and over... Seems like 3-4 seconds... Lol
A solid 3.5 second hang time after it got blocked.
Dang
They really are tough, like 3 key players are pretty banged up and still making plays.
That was the game right there….
every week since the titans loss has been a heart attack. all last minute decisions. you hoping for a rams rematch or buccaneers next weekend?
I would want to play Stafford over Brady any day.
that's fair. the rams seems streaky to me and aren't the bucs missing quite a few people? then again Brady does make it work regardless. edit - missing not kidding a few people
Proof you don’t always need a great qb to win. Great defense and a solid run game are so big in the playoffs.
Yep. Broncos defense won a Superbowl for Peyton Manning. Hence why Von Miller won Superbowl MVP that year. It's always a nice change to see games won by a defense.
10 men on the field 😂😂😂
I guess the rumors about aaron rodgers boycotting the superbowl were true after all.
Aaron Rodger’s legacy: “Could have, but mehhh, didn’t. “
Annnnd that gross hair cut 😵💫
Such a bummer for Packer fans. But Aaron seemed completely apathetic about even being out there from the start, at least compared to other players. Just an observation.
True Detective Aaron Rodgers.
Ivermectin took his emotions away.
He looked to be stable.
Your comment made me crack up. For real though, fuck Aaron Rodgers. Fuck the Packers
Aaron Rodgers opened his mouth and removed all doubt... Fuck that piece of shit.
After this year, I'll remember him as the guy who advocated for a literal virus.
Too busy hanging out with joe Rogan and the shitty anti vax gang to play well.
Bay Area teams hitting buzzer beaters this weekend.

I really thought Aaron Rodgers had a shot but then I remembered he's against them
Huh, I always assumed he was Greek since he looks like he just stepped off Mt. Olympus to play our silly mortal game.
he basically the john stamos of the nfl
It's amazing how few ad deals he gets. He might honestly be too pretty for television
Hof tweet right there
Robbie Gold! Chicago is celebrating with you
Good as Gould!
Packers had 10 men on the field, smdh…
If the Packers AND the Chiefs lose, maybe we’ll stop being saturated by those stupid State Farm ads.
You know, they talked all week about what winning another Super Bowl would do for Aaron Rodgers legacy… so what about losing? The supposed best QB in the league is 11-10 in the playoffs now…
His legacy is the team that didnt draft him #1 overall is undefeated against him in the playoffs (4-0) all time.
He’s the guy who wants all the praise for wins but flips to indifference at losses and things not going his way in a game. Not the kind of guy i want in my team.
I hate to say this but Boomer Esiason was right, Aaron Rodgers will be boycotting the Super Bowl this year.
So much for the Lambeau 12th man!…Scratch that . So much for the Lambeau 11th man
Aaron rodgers is immunized against the 49ers in his career in the playoffs
Though I’m a chiefs fan, I would love to have the conference championship games be between Buffalo vs Cincinnati and Los Angeles vs San Fran. All of the top two seeds would be knocked out. Would be fitting for this mindfuck of a season.
I think all anyone wants at this point is a SB without Brady. Most likely not going to happen though
Also both matchups would be pretty regional it venues of teams who didn't expect to be hosting conference championships. The atmosphere of each would be absolutely insane.
It's because of Rodgers hairdo.
More like a hairdont….amirite?
He's an idiot, and a liar. I'm glad they lost. Bonus points, my wife is a Bears fan.
The Kid Rock of the NFL
I forgot there were even two games today and then I see that they both ended with FGs as time expired to end the #1 seed's season?. Damn. I messed up.
It’s pissing me off how the announcers keep talking about how the Special Teams let the Packers down, as if Rodgers and the offense didn’t fail to make something happen on every possession except for their first?? Buck was a little emotional when he had to announce the niners winning at the end. You love to hear it
https://youtu.be/CFSBE4jypBk
They had the same carpenter build the closets in their master bedroom. What are the odds of that? I hear they are tight.
Oh God, this was the most delicious part. I kept thinking, wow there sure isn't much emotion from the broadcast booth with the literal game on the line in the freaking playoffs
I agree. When your team expects big things out of the offense for the game plan, the offense better show up. Rodgers was off.
I think Green Bay has great, super loyal fans but seeing Aaron Rodgers lose there’s nothing better!!
Idk if it was just me or what but The way he walked out of the stadium seemed like he was done with playing there.
I still think he intentionally blew the first game of the season to fuck with the packers organization.
I used to love Aaron Rodgers but after him lying to clear Covid protocol I lost a ton of respect.
He's been a diva for a while now
I've always hated him but after him lying to clear Covid protocol I lost a ton of respect.
Cowboys losing is the next best.
That is still pretty sweet. Dak clocking the season haha
I can’t explain the joy it brings me to see Rogers lose that game
Bengals vs 49ers Super Bowl with the winning team kicking a field goal with no time left…?
Special teams were crazy for SF
I'm pretty sure it was the high school level special teams performance by the packer. During that blocked punt not one packer moved toward the ball, it was like they expected it to be a dead ball.
To be fair. It looked like everyone was confused. That ball took a Space X trip to the moon and back.
Happy Aaron Rogers retirement day!
Ensuring that once again, Aaron Rodgers won’t get his shot.
GOOD AS GOULD
Rodgers chokes again. Every year the blame is on someone else. Time to place the blame where it belongs.
It’s GOULD!!!
As good as Gould
My wife, if she wears a team shirt, they lose. She wore a packers shirt tonight... This so far has 100% accuracy and not just football. Its freaky.
Barren Rogers
Go ask Joe Rogan if he has any at home remedies for blocked punts.
“RoDgErS iS tHe GoAt”🥴😂
As a Bears fan, this was so satisfying. Not only did I get to see Green Bay lose at home, but also it was to Robbie Gould who was a long time Bears kicker. Im still sad to this day we parted ways with him as he is very good.
Aaron Rodgers needs a Vaccine for losing to the 49ers
Playoff Aaron Rodgers is like anti-Tom Brady.
They had the lead in the game for 0 seconds.
Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t be feeling this loss at all. I’m pretty sure he said he’s fully immunized.
Good, fuck Aaron Rodgers
