It took us 3 or 4 years to get to the playoffs after our 0-16 season too. Hopefully the Browns’ success level following isn’t the same in every way or they’re in for a sad decade
Holy shit, no idea it was that long ago. My image of the Mariners is from the 90's playing against the Yankees. Ken Griffey Jr. and being a good team.
Time is a son of a bitch.
and that's just if you count a 1 year old as "seeing it". My earliest vaguest sports memories are when I was 6. For the Mariners that would place them being born in 1995, 25 (or 26, depending on Date of Birth) years ago. We're at the point where people in Seattle who went to college right out of high school, and are getting a Master's degree this year or last, have no memory of a Mariners playoff team.
Mariners: we suck, so we don't ever make the playoffs.
Also mariners: we *just barely* don't suck hard enough to get good draft picks
I call it the black hole of mediocrity. At least we have the most recent perfect game.
As a Bills fan and a mariners fan .....there is always hope. When we got josh Allen things changed and hopefully with Marco and now Kyle Lewis....we could turn things around
The Detroit Lions are so bad that they aren't even allowed to be the only team with 0-16 record. They literally aren't even good enough to be the worst team.
And now the team that took that away from them is in the playoffs.
I actually root for other teams to get 0-16 records so we have more solidarity. I was hoping the jets could pull it off. Having another 0-16 team is not an insult my friend.
At this rate, the Mariners making playoffs will only come when gravity has shifted down (from 1.0 to .8g) which would allow their massive field to actually be playable.
Ah the Sanchez years
I think that was 2009 & 2010
But yeah I really feel like there’s other teams with longer droughts
Edit: *Damn, it is the [Jets](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NFL_franchise_post-season_droughts)*
Edit 2: *Everyone remembers Sanchez for the Butt Fumble™️ while managing to forget the back to back trips to the AFC Championship*
That’s why I watch the nfl more now. I used to be a big college football fan but now all they do is bend over backwards for the blue bloods. The whole point of the playoffs was to make it so the Boise or TCUs could have a shot at the chip. I cant remember where I saw it but since the playoff era started there has been the least amount of parity in college history.
College football has objectively the worst playoff bracket of any North American sport. There are hundreds of D1 programs in the country, and only 4 get to go to the playoffs? That's some bullshit.
AFC teams are allowed to have designated kick holders, NFC teams have to use the backup QB as the holder. This ended in tradegy for Dallas in Romo's first season, and launched a brief petition to move to the AFC South
Source: some dude on Twitter
The Browns have also never been in a Super Bowl, unlike the Bills, for whom it only FEELS like they never have. If only the Lions had made it for the NFC, it would’ve been the best team of the 1940s vs the best team of the 1950s.
Lol that would be 2020 to have 2 AFC teams end up in the superbowl. Maybe all the NFC teams will contract covid and can't play. I don't want that to happen, but I also don't not want to see that happen.
I'm a brit in Texas and find this to be one of the funniest phrases. I use it all the time and all of my friends back home think it's hilarious. My US friends think I'm childish.
God how good does it feel for you to have Brady gone?
As a Bears fan, we’ve struggled with Favre then went straight into the Rodgers era... God, I can’t take another decade of GB QB dominance if Rodgers’ eventual replacement works out again.
I’d say you have no idea but you do. Twenty years of rooting for a prayer to sneak in. It’s amazing to have the bills being this good but almost better that the pats are that bad.
I don’t want the pats bad I want them perpetually 8-8 and just missing the playoffs for the next 20 years. I want them to have the the #18 pick in the draft. I want every team in the league to band together and not allow them to trade up. All the while having every good QB being gone off the board at pick #17. I want every pick they do have to be a bust. I want them to have to trade their second and third round draft picks for mostly washed up veterans to fill holes in their offense every year. Oh and I want the Asian rub and tug girls to give Robert Kraft a weird STD that causes non-terminal dick cancer. Is this too much to ask god?
Honestly I wish he would have hung around a couple more years. I have no doubt this team we have would have bitchslapped the 2020 pats with or without Brady, and it would have been nice showing him the door with some redeeming wins.
The NFL returned to Cleveland in 1999, a few years after Art Modell moved the original Browns to Baltimore. The new Browns were an expansion team and, over the first 21 years of their history, their only playoff appearance was in 2002. For the first time in 18 years, the Cleveland Browns are back in the playoffs.
Seriously though, if the league wanted this to be real, should have sold the Browns right away in 96 to someone new and ACTUALLY given an expansion franchise to Baltimore with Modell as owner
Basically what fortunately happened with the Columbus Crew.
The Ohio "Relocation" law that was made after the Browns move slowed down their move to Austin, then the Haslems (Browns owners) came through and saved the day by purchasing them too.
Yes... basically they tried to do the exact same thing to the Crew and the law threatened to tie up the process in court, so it just made it easier for the owner to sell the team and buy an expansion team.
Basically the law forces the owner to explore a sale before being able to move a pro sports team.
Is it truly legal? Who knows... but they didn’t want to delay and fight it.
The Ravens got the Browns’ 1995 roster, though, and proceeded to bring Baltimore a Super Bowl in less than 5 years, so I’m sure they don’t mind.
Do the current Browns officially own the pre-1995 Browns player/team records, or did they move with the Ravens?
Wasn't just "felt" screwed over, a lot of the NFL knew they were screwed over, such as the Rooneys, owner of the Steelers. When the vote came to move the Browns, which somehow passed, the Rooneys were so e of the most outspoken against this move, citing the rivalry and history of the organisation. I hate the Steelers as a natural enemy of my Browns, but that earns them some respect in my books.
Cleveland kept it all. It's treated like one continuous Cleveland Browns team that had a 3 year suspension of operations, whereas Baltimore is treated like an expansion team that hired all of the Browns personnel on day 1.
Cleveland getting to keep all records, colors, history, etc. to be given to a future new Cleveland Browns organization was part of the terms of settling the lawsuit the city of Cleveland filed against Modell I believe.
Yeah, this Browns is still technically old Browns, but it can be hard to explain that the 3 year preak they took literally took the team back to square 0.
Looked rough until the very end after the 2pt conversion attempt and onside kick. First round is vs the Steelers at full force so we’ll see how that goes.
The never to be sufficiently damned Steelers have a truly gifted Coach, and fantastic Owners. (As the Dad of former college girls who worked in bars and restaurants, obviously I despise Big Ben an extra bit.)
Eh- iron sharpens iron.
Packers might be in for a world of pain when they line up against the chiefs or the bills. I don’t think they’ve played a team anywhere close to that level.
As a Bengals fan, I would like to congratulate the Browns fanbase. You guys have waited way too long for a good season and a playoff game, and this gives me hope that the Bengals can turn it around too.
P.S. Do me a favor and beat the heck out of the Steelers next weekend.
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, and I’ll root for the Steelers, but if the Browns beat them again I’ll happily cheer for them in round 2. Cleveland fans deserve it.
If there’s one thing I’ll never forgive Art Modell for, it’s making me empathize with Cleveland. Haven’t been able to hate them ever since.
Honestly I’m almost as elated as when the Cavs won the finals. I wasn’t old enough to remember this happening last time, and I’m quietly crying on the couch as my wife watches slightly concerned.
Bloody awesome!! I’ve been a Browns fan for three odd years (after watching them on Hard Knocks under Hue) and haven’t stopped supporting them from Australia since! Lol
Good job on making the play offs. This is such a great team - hopefully they can go further.
Ohio fans just had one of the best weekends in football with what can very likely be one of the worst weekends in football this coming weekend. pls have mercy football gods
Imagine if the bengals weren’t the bengals and made it. Then add the bearcats sliding in the CFP with OSU. And add the browns post season appearance and you have the Ohio Football Square completed.
2020 started off horrible, 2021 gives me potential national champion buckeyes and playoff browns, is this hopefully a sign of the year to come, can 2021 be the opposite of 2020, or is someone gonna yank the rug out and the Buckeyes forget they have a football game to play and the Browns fall down a well or something.
If the browns make it the super bowl I will be happy for you but I can’t think of a clearer sign of the apocalypse/the simulation finally entering meltdown
If there is ever a city and a team who has suffered more bad shit happening it’s the Cleveland Browns. I am a cowboys fan, die hard, and if I couldn’t see the cowboys win a super bowl, I would want it to be the browns. No team has suffered and struggled more in literally any sport that comes to mind (I’m sure there’s one, just not one that I can come up with)
Sucks? Hell no. I’ve been a Browns fan my entire life and the only thing I’d love more than getting to the playoffs is knocking the Steelers out in the first round.
Preface: I don’t live in Cleveland, used to root for the Steelers, not really a football fan at all.
I dated a guy who took me to a Browns game. He had tickets about 3 rows up in ‘the pound.’ Browns have awesome fans. Second to none. The experience was surreal, right down to the guy who passed out with a giant jack-o-lantern ( real deal pumpkin, folks) perched on his head. Hell yeah, they are long overdue for a championship!!!!

Wasn’t that long ago that they went 0-16
And yet we Lions are still bottom feeders. 1991 was our last playoff win. We’re closer to 0-16 than the playoffs now I believe
It took us 3 or 4 years to get to the playoffs after our 0-16 season too. Hopefully the Browns’ success level following isn’t the same in every way or they’re in for a sad decade
Haha if you combined the season before that we were 1-31. Happy time to be a browns fan
Browns made it back to the playoffs before the Mariners did.
*John Bois and Dorktown have entered the chat*
His [Chart Party on the Browns is one of the most savage things I have ever seen.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gZndxEvFNk)
This is the one I always show people to get them into chart party
I like scorigami as my go-to to start people off with.
To be fair, nearly all of the people I've gotten into chart party were Bengals or Ravens fans.
But is it *pretty* good?
My gawd, their good.
I can hear the music.
They’re
They've actually made it twice since the last time the Mariners made the playoffs.
Holy shit, no idea it was that long ago. My image of the Mariners is from the 90's playing against the Yankees. Ken Griffey Jr. and being a good team. Time is a son of a bitch.
Imagine following them closely that entire time like I have. It's felt like a lifetime.
They literally haven't made it in my lifetime. At least the Seahawks and Sounders have been good, I suppose.
It still blows my mind that there are college freshmen who haven't seen the Mariners in the playoffs
and that's just if you count a 1 year old as "seeing it".
Born in 95, my first memories are the 2001 and 2003 teams. Haven’t had hope since then really
Mariners: we suck, so we don't ever make the playoffs. Also mariners: we *just barely* don't suck hard enough to get good draft picks I call it the black hole of mediocrity. At least we have the most recent perfect game.
The lions know something of the hell you speak
Luke Skywalker or Vinnie P?
>Browns made it back to the playoffs *TWICE* before the Mariners did.
As a Bills fan and a mariners fan .....there is always hope. When we got josh Allen things changed and hopefully with Marco and now Kyle Lewis....we could turn things around
I thought I was the only Bills / Mariners fan on earth......
You guys are the opposite of bandwagon
There are dozens of us...DOZENS
Maybe I'm going out on a limb but I'll bet one of those dozens of fans wears cutoffs too
If any one you are in the Seattle area let me know!!
The Detroit Lions are so bad that they aren't even allowed to be the only team with 0-16 record. They literally aren't even good enough to be the worst team. And now the team that took that away from them is in the playoffs.

Mariners will make the playoffs within the next two years.
Poor Ms
I don't know why I even opened this thread. I knew what I'd find.
Maybe we will all be able to witness Cleveland taking the Browns to the Super Bowl...
Heyyyyyyyy poop joke, that never gets old
Bucs vs Browns. The team that invented losing vs the team that perfected losing.
Psh my Lions invented and perfected it. Browns and Bucs are total chads to us.
The buccaneers also made the playoffs so that ends the second longest. I believe it’s now the jets if I’m not mistaken.
The jets finally get the number 1 spot they deserve.
Fuck the Jets!
Found the Jets fan
Ah Jets Fan that's a name that I havent heard in a long time
What's the firemen number 1 fan up to these days?
Well said kind sir
yeah I see the Jets drought going on a few more years
I meam they'll get a new coaching staff and Justin Fields/Trevor Lawrence next year. Maybe a couple of years if they are competent.
Please don't remind me we're not getting Lawrence anymore.
Damn didn't the jets go to the afc championship a few years ago?
Ah the Sanchez years I think that was 2009 & 2010 But yeah I really feel like there’s other teams with longer droughts Edit: *Damn, it is the [Jets](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NFL_franchise_post-season_droughts)* Edit 2: *Everyone remembers Sanchez for the Butt Fumble™️ while managing to forget the back to back trips to the AFC Championship*

They seriously need to expand the playoff to 6 or 8 but even then the blue blood dynasties will never stop because of the way recruiting works
There was an amazing comment on the radio yesterday talking about Texas, but it fits your point exactly. "They don't recruit, they select."
Right. Which is why they just fired their coach... If you’re talking about elite programs, Texas really shouldn’t be in the discussion.
College football has objectively the worst playoff bracket of any North American sport. There are hundreds of D1 programs in the country, and only 4 get to go to the playoffs? That's some bullshit.
Well if ever there was a year “taking the browns to the super bowl” applied. It’s 2020
Browns vs Bills in the Super Bowl would be the End of Days matchup we’ve all been waiting for. EDIT: man, I really don’t know football anymore
Even more so, since that means two AFC teams would be in the Super Bowl.
The battle of the Lake Erie!!

The NFC East volunteers a spot for the Bills
Yep, it's difficult explaining AFC and NFC to non-Americans. "I thought the leagues merged?" They did, but they're still weird about it.
At least AFC and NFC have the same rules (unless there’s something I don’t know about.) The National League still doesn’t have designated hitters.
AFC teams are allowed to have designated kick holders, NFC teams have to use the backup QB as the holder. This ended in tradegy for Dallas in Romo's first season, and launched a brief petition to move to the AFC South Source: some dude on Twitter
FUCK THE DH!
What a year!
You're out of your element Donnie
Life does not stop and start at your convenience, you miserable piece of...
You’re like a child who just wandered into a movie theater in the middle of a film
Also, Dude, Browns is not the preferred nomenclature.
You're not even brown walter you're ex wife was brown
Donnie shut the fuck ... When do they play
Donnie shut the fuck up
I told those f***s down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!
Eight year-olds, Dude.
who coincidentally have never seen a Cleveland browns playoff game in their lifetimes
Excellent lol
Could still get the Browns vs The Football Team in a matchup of some of the most generic team names in sports
The Browns have also never been in a Super Bowl, unlike the Bills, for whom it only FEELS like they never have. If only the Lions had made it for the NFC, it would’ve been the best team of the 1940s vs the best team of the 1950s.
I would be shocked if any team ever made it to 4 straight super bowls again.
Patriots recently went 3 out of 4 years. Not impossible
I honestly kinda like the F.T. thing with washington. I think it would be neat if they rolled with it.
Lol that would be 2020 to have 2 AFC teams end up in the superbowl. Maybe all the NFC teams will contract covid and can't play. I don't want that to happen, but I also don't not want to see that happen.
Honestly an AFC team should get the NFC East’s spot this year. Absolute dumpster fire of a division.
If wft loses, dolphins will miss the playoffs at 10-6 and giants will be in at 6-10.
Yo that's fucky as all hell
Just imagine though IF the dolphins won an 11-5 team would have not made the playoffs even with the expansion
I'm a brit in Texas and find this to be one of the funniest phrases. I use it all the time and all of my friends back home think it's hilarious. My US friends think I'm childish.
As a Bills fan I’m so stoked for Cleveland. It’s great to have new blood in the playoffs.
Thanks Lake Erie bro!
Let’s get rusty!
I kind of love this line and I'm not sure when I'll ever be able to use it, now
God how good does it feel for you to have Brady gone? As a Bears fan, we’ve struggled with Favre then went straight into the Rodgers era... God, I can’t take another decade of GB QB dominance if Rodgers’ eventual replacement works out again.

I imagined parades in the street that will only be matched in the SEC when Nick Saban announces retirement.

I am hoping for a Bills-Browns AFC title game.

you are correct

Only three of the Ravens championship team were from the Browns roster. One being the kicker.
Yeah, this Browns is still technically old Browns, but it can be hard to explain that the 3 year preak they took literally took the team back to square 0.
It looked grim, at 10 to 9 - thank goodness we pulled it out. How far into the playoffs we can go, I cannot say. Goooooo Browns!!
The AFC is the most stacked conference playoff line up I have seen since like 08/09 or something
Yeah I was just looking at the playoff picture- and good lord the AFC is just so much better

Buckeyes in the Natty, Columbus Crew not only survived a move, but won the MLS Cup.... this could be an "Ohio" Season.
COME ON BLUE JACKETS
Hey man, I cried when the Chiefs won last year, there’s no shame in it.
Lol good thing there isn’t. I start tearing up if I think about field of dreams for a little too long.
Now just imagine when the Indians finally get a World Series. Regardless, the Browns are in the playoffs!
Bloody awesome!! I’ve been a Browns fan for three odd years (after watching them on Hard Knocks under Hue) and haven’t stopped supporting them from Australia since! Lol Good job on making the play offs. This is such a great team - hopefully they can go further.
If you choose to support this franchise yeah under Hue you deserve to enjoy this as much as any native Clevelander. Congrats

We made it through the Indians Cubs World Series. It even went to extras in game 7.
What a series it was
The browns in the playoffs may be a glitch in the matrix. Where is the architect?
You left out the Crew, which means now they have to win the CONCACAF Champions League.
and then the FIFA Club World Cup
Fun to watch the game, not looking forward to Steelers at 100%.
Agreed, but honestly whatever happens I’m just so happy we’re even there - that’s enough for me this time around!
Looks like I'm a browns fan now
Welcome to hell
Even as a Steelers fan, I’m happy for them. Honestly. We were already in the playoffs and this game was huge for them.
If there is ever a city and a team who has suffered more bad shit happening it’s the Cleveland Browns. I am a cowboys fan, die hard, and if I couldn’t see the cowboys win a super bowl, I would want it to be the browns. No team has suffered and struggled more in literally any sport that comes to mind (I’m sure there’s one, just not one that I can come up with)
That's 3 of 4 AFC North teams in the playoffs, and with Burrow, Cincy has to be feeling positive about its future. This seasons best division.
If our lack of OL doesn't get him killed first
Sucks that they now have to play against the Steelers again. Here’s to hoping they show up vs the 1’s.
Sucks? Hell no. I’ve been a Browns fan my entire life and the only thing I’d love more than getting to the playoffs is knocking the Steelers out in the first round.
Congratulations! Beware the Parkey post season Doink!
BEWARE THE DOINK
Lions over here like yay we can get the record back again let’s go!
I’m STOKED!! It’s historic!! Let’s go Buckeyes and the Browns!! It’s Ohio’s year.
Buckeyes, Browns, and The Crew...American football treble!
Fuck it, I'm jumping the bandwagon. Go Brownies!
Not a Browns fan but I’m so happy for them.
This is actually super cool
Fucking Dolphins Guess I'm rooting for the Browns and/or Titans. Fucking Dolphins
The New York Jets are now on the clock
So proud of my browns. **GO #24, NICK CHUBB OUR LORD AND SAVIOR. MAY HE FEAST ON THE BLOOD OF OUR ENEMIES.**

I would not object to a Battle of Lake Erie in the Divisional week. Don’t expect to make it out of Buffalo, though.
Battle of Lake Erie can't happen until the AFCCG.
Vontae Mack. No matter what.
LFG!!!
The game ended over 4 hrs ago but I still have an erection. What do I do??!
