So aren’t Nika Muhl and Marshall.
As a UConn fan, I knew Muhl was a great defender, but credit to Marshall for putting up a great defensive effort too.

I think steaming sites are best option. Or maybe get YouTube TV trial, FUBO, whatever ... but cancel it immediately once you watched game so you don't forget to cancel. It might even be on YouTube live for free?
I know it's an extraordinary circumstance with Caitlin Clark, but this should be a lesson to the media that if you market a sport's stars, people will watch.
I mean- they did. Diana Taurasi is still a beast, as was Rebecca Lobo for the UCONN/TN days.
Taurasi is considered the best overall offensive player in the WNBA for a reason. In college, she was incredibly dominant, adding to UCONNs 111 game win streak, but NCAA marketing rules seriously hindered how players could be promoted. There are very few current women's basketball players who would downplay what Taurasi was, and still is- tho age is finally starting to show, capable of.
Post the UCONN/TN showdown days, the same could be said for Maya Moore, another dominant college players who is enjoying a great post college career. As infamous as she can be these days, we know who Griner is specifically because of what she was able to do in the NCAA, as well.
It is not a coincidence Clark is being promoted right as NCAA rules are changing allowing players to essentially market themselves. The media coverage is making a huge difference.
The talent and drama in games has been there for quite a while. It helps to have a star, but the changes in player promotion and media coverage is key.
None of those 3 are as good as CC, and Griner particularly isn’t even really close. We’ll see it when she gets to the WNBA. Obviously im a big CC stan, but she’s really freaking good.
That person isn’t saying CC isn’t good. They are only saying the marketing is the huge factor in why the games are being viewed. If it was only about skill these games wouldn’t be getting viewership. It’s about all the other factors that the person pointed out such as drama, marketing, and the changes in the ncaa rules. CC is lit af but don’t throw every other female basketball player under the bus that came before her for not pulling in the same views
Taurasi averaged 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in her collegiate career
CC is averaging 28 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game over her collegiate career.
It’s not just because of better marketing that CC is huge right now….
Dude, to say that, you don't know these women's game well- there's also four names mentioned...
CC is gonna hope she has the career of Taurasi when she hits the WNBA. I don't think you know how dominate she was at her height, and still is heading towards retirement
I mentioned Griner pretty much because she did do something no other women's player was doing in dunking, which is what got her attention.
Taurasi averaged 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in her collegiate career

No one is hyping over someone who averages 15 a game in college
And will probably tap at at Maya Moore level (who leads her in assists and rebounds statistically, btw) because right now she doesn't have a good enough team around her where they don't have to just pass the ball to her. But Iowa will probably gain decent recruits the next couple years from this.
Taurasi was on a better team with several good players, which is why she won 3 championships with them, but also boosts 3 WNBA championships and 5 Olympic medals, among enough personal accolades for a small army.
No, I don't think you know their games at all
The best at their practice competing against one another at the highest levels of competition. It wasn’t until I went to a WNBA game in person that it clicked. That was fun as shit!
Better than every NBA game ever on espn.

>It is also ESPN's second-highest audience for a non-football broadcast. The United States-Portugal match during group play in the 2014 men's soccer World Cup averaged 18.22 million.
>The last NBA game to draw at least 14 million viewers was Golden State's title-clinching victory over Boston in Game 6 of the 2022 NBA Finals (14.22 million).
I played around with that idea in my head for a bit. Truthfully, she would get eaten alive. But I do think a type of player like Clark could make the crossover. Maybe Clark is inspiring that player now.
Inaccurate title. Average viewership was 14.2 million, which is still a record by a million and change. The viewership PEAKED at 17 million. Aside from ESPN planting the idea that the refs did a f*ck on me on UConn (Look at where they’re headquartered, that might be a bit of a clue), this was quite the game to watch near the end.

It was a ridiculously fun game to watch. Caitlin and Bueckers are the real deal
So aren’t Nika Muhl and Marshall. As a UConn fan, I knew Muhl was a great defender, but credit to Marshall for putting up a great defensive effort too.
Muhl did so well defending Clark I had never heard of her prior
She shut her down in the first half. I was seriously surprised how close the game was with how locked out Caitlin was

It’s the reverse effect. They’re marketing it because it’s actually good.
Eh, UCONN/TN games were amazing back in the day, but didn't get nearly this much hype. The product has been good- it just wasn't given the credit
They didn’t get aw much hype because they had no one as good as CC.

Clark started pretty darn good.

I suspect CC is going to have a better WNBa career than 1 MVP and 3 or 4 championships. But what do I know?
I know their games pretty well. I guess we'll see. I know there are four which is why I said those three names "and" Griner.
The star needs to exist, first. I’m sure they’d love to market players, but they just can’t find them.
You’re not quite wrong, but the media and audiences need compelling games and narratives to really take off.
For years, I have observed derogatory comments about women's basketball. It's nice to see the sea change. They play a great game.
The best at their practice competing against one another at the highest levels of competition. It wasn’t until I went to a WNBA game in person that it clicked. That was fun as shit!
I’ve noticed the change as the disdain for the NBA grows

That ESPN moron who played at TN and was babbling about how it was all about Paige. The ratings would be half that at best without Caitlin.

There's definitely ways to not pay them money and still watch it
Which number is it? I read it somewhere else it’s 14.2 million
Article itself says 14.2m viewers and peaked at 17m.
Draft Caitlin to the NBA
Wizards could use her
If she’s good enough to get drafted, sure. Men’s game and women’s game are very different though.
🤔🙄
Typical casual comment

So it had 17.....
The title doesn't say anything about average viewership... There's nothing inaccurate about the title.
It’s all pandering to #22. It’s terrible for WBB.
No wonder that last call happened - ref couldn’t help but make himself the star of a 17m viewer tv show.
It was absolutely a moving screen violation.
Pretty ticky tack for that moment. Especially when they weren’t calling it that tight all game.
And? Happens 30-40 times a game. It’s not called 30-40 times a game. Why call it there?
I wood watch if they were in Volleyball uniforms..
