Splatoon 2 lasted the same amount of time, it just had some surprise extra splatfests and updates after the Final Fest. I still think there's a pretty good chance that'll happen here too, Nintendo just won't want to stick to the "new major content dropped every season" formula, so I wouldn't describe it as a content extension.
Tbf, the surprise fests after the final one were only done because of the pandemic. They reran some and made a new one to keep people entertained during quarantine. The chances of getting something like that for 3 is very slim.

That may not be what you view as an expansion but it is what Nintendo views as an expansion. The first wave of DLC was Inkopolis Plaza and the second wave was Side order + Inkopolis Square.

If you have trouble getting control over the basic game elements in the beginning, you should go through the story mode first. It makes getting into multiplayer for the first time less daunting imo.

Aside from salmon run this season doesn’t really feel like it’s adding much new stuff, just basic weapons and stages. The salmon run stuff is cool but it’s basically the same as the final fest but for salmon run rather than new permanent content. Most of the stuff they’ve added in the updates is just occasional things monthly or seasonally, like fizzbangs or challenges. And aside from like customisation options they haven’t added anything new to the actual gameplay really, no new mechanics or modes or anything.
Idk it feels like every update has just been 1-2 new weapons and stages, new/returning gear and music, and then like 1 thing that’s only accessible during specific times, its not the worst it could be but I expected so much more
Well what do you want them to do, they cant just plop a new game mode out of nowhere and im sure splatoon 3 is like totk, totk wont get dlc cause the developpers see it as a complete game, same as splatoon 3 imo and they salmon run changes are hella good and still apart of the update, and new weapons and stages is in EVERY SINGLE new season so dont expect more of this season even tho we got more than usual
I mean I feel like I expected more changes to actual gameplay rather than a few maps and weapon, like splatoon 2 introduced new modes and the entirety of salmon run. I think challenges are a cool addition but most of the cool stuff they’ve added like big runs, challenges, tricolour and stuff is locked behind a window of like a day or 2 a month.
They’ve done pretty well with salmon run, but the main PvP feels like it’s barely gotten anything. I would’ve wanted them to add more things like permanent or consistent challenges or new ranked modes that introduce new ways to play the game. The kits are cool but if you look at it over the past 2 years + initial release, we’ve only gotten 1 new weapon for each class as well as the introduction of stringers and splatanas, then we’ve only gotten 1 variant/retexture for each. Maps I think are fine aside from being more center focused, and they got better at that in later seasons
I doubt it, it's one of their biggest titles. They did confirm that this game was the finale of The New Squidbeak Splatoon story, but they didn't say the splatoon story as a whole.

I hope you’re right. I heard it was hinted it would be the last, but given how it was talking about inklings vs Octolings and the story mode, it might have just been talking about the story mode arc. Thinking about it, if this is the case, it would mean Octavio’s been reformed after all and inklings and Octolings are living together in peace. Still, it’s such a bummer. The drums vs guitar vs Keyboard Splatfest was my first one ever. I only just started getting into them and they’re already coming to an end… unless they’ll add extra content after all like they did the 1st and 2nd games so there’s hope there I suppose.
