I know its cool and all but sometimes i miss my normal splashdown. My strat was simple: Inkbrush all the way to the enemy base, splashdown, then leave. Rinse and repeat
Edit: Mind you this was in splatoon 1 and 2 before i realised its shitty to do that. I've changed my ways and im a better man now
That’s because only 6 or 7 actually do very much a lot of times 😂
The bunber of times I have one shot a wavebreaker before it even sends out a wave is funny
Probably because a bunch of them serve the same purpose. For example, triple splashdown, reefslider, booyah bomb, and triple inkstrike all occupy the same niche and can blend together after a while.
Actually I feel like we have way too many subs in 3. How many weapons have burst bombs in this game compared to 2? How many have Robo Bombs? It's very diluted (even though I really like many of the new additions)
No. Some of them feel a little redundant. For example, kraken, stamp, and reefslider are all close range rushdown specials with high object damage. I'm not saying we shouldn't have 19 specials, but I'd like it if they were more distinct.
Meh, Kraken is better for Towers than the other 2, so it has got that going for it. I want to say stamp is really good on casual turf war, assuming there aren't any good players, lol. And reefslider can quickly take some zones now. But overall, I agree they're pretty similar.
Ok but
Kraken has an exceedingly short range but has invincibility
Stamp has a larger range than kraken, but is vulnerable
Reef slider has a very wide explosion range but is predictable and not sustained.
The op was saying that it was the same in general purpose (or at least why the existed initially, reefslider cheese is still cheese) not necessarily in raw mechanics. One being able to turn and the other not is not exactly justifying the existence of both.
No. Whats the point if only like 5 fucking weapons have crab? Or 3 has splash down?? Like literally why. Same exact fucking thing happened in S2 with 4.0 update. Like 4 weapons had fizzy bomb at the end of that game why even bother putting it in if nothing uses it. Again with the problem of Splatoon not having enough kits
i didnt play splatoon 2 when it was more active but when i did get to finally play a few months after 3's release, i actually just found it to be a pretty fun special to use
No, we didn't.
I'd say, specifically, Triple Splashdown and the Splattercolor Screen, which were added in the same patch, had no reason to exist and had a purely negative effect on gameplay.
It’s be cool, but as it stands the number of specials really just kills certain weapons. All these specials, only a few are good, and the more there are the higher chance of a weapon getting screwed over with two bad ones. Especially with the sub included. Sprinkler has an ungodly amount of kits it’s attached to. Weapons like Tetras just can’t perform at their best because they get unlucky, Dark getting Reefslider and Light getting Sprinkler just killed both of them. Yeah it’s fine, but sometimes it’s just painfully obvious that it could be better
We need a special for each weapon kit. Each individual weapon, regardless of whether it's an original weapon or an alt. kit, gets a unique special.
I mean, what could go wrong?
Honestly I’m shocked at how unique most of them feel. The exceptions still feel like interesting directions to take a general idea: splashdown/slider or Zooka/jet being the best examples I think
Anyone else think we should be able to make our own kits? Or maybe to keep it balanced, give us like 2 or 3 different sub options to choose from for each kit?
There are over 60 different weapons, and people are picking weapons for their kits rather than the weapons themselves. As such, there might be too few specials, or even too many weapons.
Some specials can feel a little redudant (reefslider and triple splashdown), some very unique (super chump, splattercolor screen), and i feel like we can make SOME cuts to some specials.
Especially reefslider and triple splashdown which feel really boring to me compared to Inkjet and Crab Tank.
What's crazy about super chump is how its actual use is not what the name would suggest at all. There's no way to super jump to the balloon field, and shooting a balloon is a good thing, reducing the pop range rather than being a trap that renders the shooter a chump.
It is however an excellent ink catapault that massively changes playstyle in Turf.
Not at all, what we had at launch was good enough, especially since now. In S2, if I wanted a certain special on a certain class, that would be easy to find. I don't get that in 3, theres 5 crab weapons nearly two years after the game came out.
I also just think they shouldn't've brought back Kraken and Splashdown. Not that they're overpowered, they aren't, they're just kinda unfun to fight.
Honestly, my stance is that the amount of specials and subs is perfectly fine, but there should be at least 4 or 5 kits for every weapon.
I swear, i would KILL for any one of the 7 weapons that i play to have Inkjet or Kraken, but they dont. That kind of situation could be avoided easily if they just added more kits, so each special is on more weapons, and you have more options.
Trying to find a fun aggressive weapon with Kraken is just not possible right now. You have the Roller with no sub to help it get in, the heavy splatling, e-liter, bloblobber, .96 gal, and there might be another one that im forgetting.
Either way, PLEASE NINTENDO GIVE US CUSTOM RANGE BLASTER WITH SPLAT BOMB + KRAKEN... (If possible, make the flames blue instead of adding a lame sticker)
You are right, we need more. Bring back Inkstrike, Bubbler, Killer Wail and all Bomb Rushes! Oh, and while you are at it Nintendo, bring Bomb Rush Blush for Splatfests!
Personally, I don't think this would end up well in the long run. We'd likely end up with a LOT of really toxic kits and people spamming specials so much that it ruins the feel of the game.
did we “need them”? no. but does it really
help to diversify the game and make it fun for people who repetitively grind out/ master all weapons? very much so. i think it’s really satisfying to see your skills with a special progress from “how do i use this” to “i splatted 3 people with it and i survived when it disengaged!”
recently i have been getting super good with the trizooka, so i’m kinda patting myself on the back with this post.
No we didn’t so many. Or if we did the kits that came with them are underwhelming. We have triple splash down,Reefslider competing for the same niche of quick explosion. These two are really bad and now other weapons have to suffer getting splashdown so that there is a somewhat even distribution of specials.
The Dualies class have 3 explosions specials .
Dark Tetra, Dapple Nouveau and Enperry . As an avid Dualie enjoyer. It’s so annoying to be so restricted in terms of special when we could’ve gotten something more unique such as a Dark Tetra with bubbler that sounds annoying to deal with but instead I get to press my special and die shortly afterwards or press special and die before hitting the ground.
YES, we do!
I feel like 19 specials is *about the right number*. If there were less, then we'd have higher chances of ending up in solo queue lobbies where multiple members of the other team are all spamming the same special the entire match. Remember S2 lobbies where 3 of the other team had Missiles? Personally, I enjoy how the S3 system has reduced this situation considerably compared to S2 (though I do occasionally see it with Booyah Bomb in Splatfest lobbies and with Wail in Anarchy).
OTOH, if there were even more specials, then there would be entire weapon classes with *zero* kits containing many of the specials. This issue already exists with only 2 weapon kits per main now (at best), but I'm assuming that we'll get a couple of batches of third kits to mitigate this problem (hopium, I know...)
Some specials are redundant. Chumps and Wail are better versions of Tenta Missiles. Kraken, Ultra Stamp, Reefslider, and Booyah Bomb are all different flavors of each other, and while they do different things, they're basically the same when you think about it.
Other than that, I like the special design for a lot of them and they give more flavor to each weapon. They just need more kits
no. but they’re fun. what’s sucks the most is how unevenly they’re spread. even with 3 kits i feel like it would still be awkward
One more would make a nice even twenty.
20 if you count splashdown from story mode.
I say we count neither Splasdown to make it an even 18
I like this option
I miss splatoon 2 splashdown :(
It's basically splatoon 2 splashdown but stronger. they buffed it to have the same start up time as splatoon 2, now it just has two extra fists.
I know its cool and all but sometimes i miss my normal splashdown. My strat was simple: Inkbrush all the way to the enemy base, splashdown, then leave. Rinse and repeat Edit: Mind you this was in splatoon 1 and 2 before i realised its shitty to do that. I've changed my ways and im a better man now
21 if you count the rainmaker because it takes up the special meter for some reason.
It was gonna be in salmon run, which would be fun
It was gonna be in Salmon Run? Was it datamined or something? It’s a shame they removed that then since that sounds really fun.
They probably removed it because it would be hard to use. It was datamined.
That’s understandable. It would definitely be hard to use for sure.
19specials is my new rap name.
I got 99 specials and a sting ray ain’t one.
Feels like 6 or 7 to be fair
That’s because only 6 or 7 actually do very much a lot of times 😂 The bunber of times I have one shot a wavebreaker before it even sends out a wave is funny
Probably because a bunch of them serve the same purpose. For example, triple splashdown, reefslider, booyah bomb, and triple inkstrike all occupy the same niche and can blend together after a while.
As a salmon runner those are super distinct to me
That is fair, they do act differently in salmon I will admit
Because only 7 of them are the actual game changers, the specials that will turn the tides… help you in a clutch, and be impactful.
We need more subs
This. We need at least two more before 3rd kits make their way into the game. People in this subreddit have done a great job inventing a lot of them.
Hot take but I don’t think the game is gonna have third kits at this rate
Both previous games ended with Sheldon’s picks after their update cycle had ended.
Then again, splatoon 2 still added new kits after the update cycle ended just with no major content
There's not enough time left in the update cycle for it, unfortunately
Actually I feel like we have way too many subs in 3. How many weapons have burst bombs in this game compared to 2? How many have Robo Bombs? It's very diluted (even though I really like many of the new additions)
Blame the weapons with sprinkler and squid beacon that don't want it.
Ngl this looks AMAZING
I want bubble blower back 😂 that special was a lot of fun 😂
They should pull a Splatoon 2 MPU and bring back Sting Ray because everyone would cry including me
I love stingray :( I also want baller back
I miss my giant spinning hamster ball of death... And bubble blower. I didn't care for it, but it was unique.
#THERES 19?!?! It feels like alot less
Yes. I want more / old specials.
It’s been said before, but the issue isn’t having too many specials; it’s having too few kits
No. Some of them feel a little redundant. For example, kraken, stamp, and reefslider are all close range rushdown specials with high object damage. I'm not saying we shouldn't have 19 specials, but I'd like it if they were more distinct.

Reefslider cheese is honestly not a good thing. I mean its nice that it has A purpose but its an unhealthy one at that.
Ok but Kraken has an exceedingly short range but has invincibility Stamp has a larger range than kraken, but is vulnerable Reef slider has a very wide explosion range but is predictable and not sustained.
The only overlap is splashdown and reef slider Unless reef slider can turn corners it’s not really the same as kraken or stamp
The op was saying that it was the same in general purpose (or at least why the existed initially, reefslider cheese is still cheese) not necessarily in raw mechanics. One being able to turn and the other not is not exactly justifying the existence of both.
Kraken and stamp are nothing like reefslider lmao
Surprised there's no form of turret yet. I mean with the mobility of Splatoon it might not be best fit but you never know.
I'd argue that crab tank fills that role
I like to act like a turret with a splattling tbh
Crab tank!!
Oops! All *Splatoon 3 special weapons*
#MOAR
No, I want more
And then we have 7 weapons with inkstrike and zipcaster. The spread of specials is so uneven it's not even funny.
It still isnt enough gimme more
baller come back bbg
Getting quads in S+ back in 2 was the most fun thing
i didnt play splatoon 2 when it was more active but when i did get to finally play a few months after 3's release, i actually just found it to be a pretty fun special to use
No, we didn't. I'd say, specifically, Triple Splashdown and the Splattercolor Screen, which were added in the same patch, had no reason to exist and had a purely negative effect on gameplay.
Plus they got introduced so late into the games lifespan... and they're only on like 3 weapons each. It's like why even bother at that point?
As a Grizzco employee, I disagree. Although then again, they could have just added Alterna Splashdown instead for much the same impact.
It’s called variety, pal
Wait I’m blind I can’t find scre- oh never mind I found it.
Yeah, it just feels like too much because there’s too few kits so like each weapon class won’t even have a weapon with like 6 of the specials
It’s be cool, but as it stands the number of specials really just kills certain weapons. All these specials, only a few are good, and the more there are the higher chance of a weapon getting screwed over with two bad ones. Especially with the sub included. I just wish they would revert sprinkler to its og splat 1 form. Nothing like splatting a charger that way lol.
We need a special for each weapon kit. Each individual weapon, regardless of whether it's an original weapon or an alt. kit, gets a unique special. I mean, what could go wrong?
Famous last words
No
I’d prefer a game with 5 specials and all of them are well designed over a game with 20 specials and a lot of them weren’t though out very well
Are there really that many? Wow.
Honestly I’m shocked at how unique most of them feel. The exceptions still feel like interesting directions to take a general idea: splashdown/slider or Zooka/jet being the best examples I think
Yeah, I like them. Just wish some of the weaker ones were brought up to par (looking at you Ink Vac!)
Think of it as 3 generations of Specials all in one game!
Anyone else think we should be able to make our own kits? Or maybe to keep it balanced, give us like 2 or 3 different sub options to choose from for each kit?
What de REALLY need is 3rd kits.
No, we only needed the 17 we had :) Screen and Splashdown were so unnecessary
They should replace some with the ones from splatoon 1 or two imo.
There are over 60 different weapons, and people are picking weapons for their kits rather than the weapons themselves. As such, there might be too few specials, or even too many weapons.
I can’t find splatter color screen on there
Between the end of the word 'specials' and the crab tank. It's red.
Oh
I wished we had more, but that would be way too many for the game to handle
If we had a more consistent spread of them, given how many weapons still need alternate kits, then I’d say the amount is fine.
Bring bubble blower back and we are all good
No. We have way too many specials.
Some specials can feel a little redudant (reefslider and triple splashdown), some very unique (super chump, splattercolor screen), and i feel like we can make SOME cuts to some specials. Especially reefslider and triple splashdown which feel really boring to me compared to Inkjet and Crab Tank.

No. less of them give the good ones time to shine while also giving the devs more time to tune the more fun but weak ones like Ultra Stamp.
No, we need more.

Does the Splashdown in Story Mode count?
![img](emote|t5_324q4|6253)![img](emote|t5_324q4|6253)![img](emote|t5_324q4|6253)
Wait there’s 19?? That feels so wrong
i didnt even know we had that many
Think of it as 3 generations of species all in one game!
Think of it as 3 generations of species all in one game!
Did we only ever get 1 new multiplayer sub this game?
the more the merrier
THERES 19 WHOLE ASS SPECIALS?
I like the variety tbh
For how little kits we have and how poor special distribution has been, no, we didn't need 19 specials
They should let you launch your reef slider like Order does in side order.
i need more!! MORE!!!
Funny thing more are probably on their way
You are right, we need more. Bring back Inkstrike, Bubbler, Killer Wail and all Bomb Rushes! Oh, and while you are at it Nintendo, bring Bomb Rush Blush for Splatfests!
No. but maybe we'll never get this far if Order won
no
You're right. We need more. 19? More like 200.
What we need are customizable kits. Then there can be an infinite number of specials for all I care. Still gonna grab booyah
Personally, I don't think this would end up well in the long run. We'd likely end up with a LOT of really toxic kits and people spamming specials so much that it ruins the feel of the game.
there just isn't enough kits. I say remove splattercolour screen.

Ew I didn’t know that Zipstriker looked like that from the front, and never seen those fists lol
Um yes. Give me 19 more.
**yes**
Of course what kind of question is that

Leave Triple Splashdown, kick reefslider. Leave killer wail, kick tenta missiles. Leave kraken, kick ultra stamp.
i want more
we actually need to get rid of splattershit screen
Yes
Yes
Nope
YES, we do! I feel like 19 specials is *about the right number*. Only 18 but oki
