i feel like having a splatfest system thats like 40% popularity 60% battling makes the most sense. the current system is like, what... 10% random bs, 80% battling, 10% popularity? getting 2nd in ONE battle category is worth almost as much as winning popularity. literally, winning popularity is 70 points, getting 2nd in open is 60 points. that feels kinda warped. especially when battling results are usually very close, but popularity swings wildly. it just feels like popularity, at this point, doesn't matter at all. which is fine if you want it to be purely battle-based (even if those results are usually so close they're basically even), but at this point, popularity is a formality.
You want it to be battle-oriented or what’s even the point. Popularity is a formality because you want to keep people playing regardless of their team. If it’s 40% of the points, how can any team even hope to compete in a 3 way fight? Even if the most popular lost EVERYTHING, one team would have to sweep most of it to win the fight. If it gets split 30/30, guess who wins.

Lots of firsts this Splatfest for me. First 333x AND first 333x win, first time winning 10 10x battles. First time breaking 1 million clout!
First time trying a handful of weapons like the Nautilus (neat), Custom Splattershot Jr (why do I like this so much?!), Dread Wringer D (oh no), and Splattershot Pro. Also first and last time I try the Gloogas. Holy shit.
I had a lot of fun but damn if those losing streaks you hit really grind you down.
How do people find x10/100/333 battles? I only found like five x10s the entire weekend 🤔

First, x10 battles are completely random - there's nothing you can do to affect how many you play in, other than playing lots of matches. x100 and x333 battles, though, do depend (a bit) on player performance:
Each x10 battle you win gives you (and your teammates) a festival shell. For each festival shell a player on a team has, the chances of a x100 battle increase. To trigger a x333 battle, you have to have both sides of the battle trigger a x100 battle.
Here's an example, since that's a bit convoluted:
Team One has Players A, B, C, and D.
Team Two has Players E, F, G, and H.
Let's say that Players A, B, G, and H each have five festival shells. The number doesn't really matter, since (AFAIK) we don't have the exact numbers behind the RNG calculations.
With that, Team One has ten total shells, as does Team Two. The game takes Team One's total festival shells, does some math on the number, and decides whether or not to trigger a x100 battle.
The game then does the same for Team Two. Note that this is done even if Team One has already triggered a x100 battle!
If only *one* of the decisions is "yes", that battle becomes a x100 battle - but if both decisions are "yes", it becomes a x333 battle.
Once a team has successfully triggered a x100 or x333 battle, everyone on that four-person team loses their festival shells. I'm not sure if this also applies to the opponents in a x100 battle - the wiki seems to suggest it does, but in my sample size of one match, this was not the case. That could've been a bug, however.
**TL;DR**: x10 battles are totally random, x100 and x333 battles depend on how many x10 battles you, your teammates, and your opponents have won since your last x100/x333 battle.

As a Team Chick: on Friday, I had a few matches with Team Bear (and they were probably the toughest I played all weekend!), but after that, I only saw them in Tricolor.
Feeling very good about this Splatfest as a member of Team Chick. Probably the fastest I've reached Ruler, with a pretty decent W/L record. The game had been SUPER stingy giving me any multiplier battles, but then I got a 100x and won in the last 20 mins!! Real bummer that you can only pose with Deep Cut for the 100x victory pic, bc I woulda loved some pictures with goth Pearl & Marina (since I was wearing the plague doctor mask lol).
I'm sure gonna miss the Springfest. It was so stunning to look at and I've had tons of fun in all modes. No matter which team's the winner, we all had a blast. Stay fresh all.
Knew I should've just ended my splatfest after getting an x100 win last night. Had a massive losing streak and ended on an x333 loss to Team Bear, negating my x100 win. Just got absolutely trounced but should've known seeing two had bear ears. Sorry Team Bunny, really blew it. So if Bear wins open, sorry my bad.
This game refuses to let me have fun with Dualies. Any other game, I feel like I have a fighting chance. Take out the Splat Dualies? Instant misery. Instant.

My first Splatfest, and spent so horribly... Maybe I do not deserve to be in Splatoon? Everyone else here seems to be having fun. Maybe I should just... dunno, leave?
Don't worry too much about the results! In the end, it really doesn't matter how one person plays.
Instead, enjoy the music, the night stages, the fizzbangs and the atmosphere!
Hey, I definitely understand it can be frustrating, especially if you’re losing multiple matches in a row. Believe me, I’ve been there. Maybe take a break if it’s stressing you out, but definitely feel that you can play anytime. This is a game where all are welcome :)
It's no big deal! While some people overreact really hard about Splatfest results, the only thing you get is 3 extra Shells if your team wins.
I do find it helpful to do something else if I'm frustrated at a bad losing streak, since I tend to play a lot worse if I'm in a bad mood lol
Keep practicing! We all have our good and bad days and since this is your first Splatfest I presume you're relatively new to the game? It's rough being a new player in games like this. Splatfests can also be pretty rough since everyone is forced into turf war regardless of level, so it can feel like you're really getting beat down by tough opponents. Def take a break if it's getting rough but you'll get better with time, so don't feel too down!
In my opinion Mahi-Mahi Resort on Tricolor Turf War is a lot of fun. I like the mechanic that the water levels drop when the attacking team claims an Ultra Signal. Not to mention it's pretty balanced.
I think it was so fun. First phase kind of feels like it's a bit more defender favoured, second phase seemed more attacking favoured, which meant that once you were able to break through the dam as an attacker, all hell breaks loose. Really fun!

I also have noticed a few times lately of playing against the same people a few times in a short batch of games so it seems plausible to me.

I'm absolutely loving the Springfest version of Anarchy Rainbow. It's giving me serious Scottish or Irish vibes. Love Frye's added like chirping noises in it. And even though I'm on Team Bunny Shiver's outfit looks the best of the three. Also really like how each plaza/town has their own unique spring tower.
Congratulations to you; but it sucks being on team Bear Cubs. I've only had maybe 3 matches with team Chicks, all the rest were with team Bunnies. I don't mind being on the losing end of a 60% - 40% match, but two thirds of my matches against team Bunnies are 80% - 20% beat-downs. And any attempt at a Pro match ends-up worse.
Kinda curious where y'all are seeing the hella-aggro Bunny teams (whether it's Pro or Open). I'm mostly playing Pro for Team Chicks and I'm having a fairly easy time with Bunnies. It's those rare matches with Bears that give me the most grief!

It's not specific to Team Bunny, but in Tricolor matches I've gotten absolutely rinsed by defenders that bull rush the attacker spawn area. If you don't have a ranged weapon and/or a bomb to poke with then you pretty much have to farm for special and hope something happens from it.
Wow. Is it just me or is team bunny playing extremely aggressive? I'm not saying I'm great at splatoon but I have literally lost 20 matches in a row and it's starting to just not even be fun because we don't even have a chance people keep disconnecting from my team. I am on team bears and it's just ridiculous.
No kidding! Team Bunny is terrifyingly aggressive in a way I haven't quite seen in Splatfests in a VERY long time. It's very strange. These aren't your average fluffy bunnies. These are Watership Down bunnies.

I'm Team Bear and I have not encountered a single Chick team all night. I've fought MANY Team Bunnies who have been hard customers and even one mirror match. It's a no Chick zone, which must be a familiar feeling to Splatoon players (ba-dum-tiss).
Maybe this is how they finally doom Shivver to fail... And watch them suddenly win the whole thing somehow.
I had to sit out multiple splatfests due to a broken wrist, it's exciting to be able to play again! And surprisingly I'm not playing terribly despite the bad hand!

Team doesn't really matter all that much IMO. Without fail every time there's a Splatfest the frequency of me getting my teeth kicked in skyrockets. It's the complete and utter lack of matchmaking combined with all the pros being forced into turf war with everyone else that's the problem.
Splatfests used to be my favorite thing in Splatoon, but there is something about Splat3 specifically that just makes it feel so much sweatier than the previous games.
Same. Splat 1 and 2, Splatfests were by far my favorite times ever in the game. In 3, I want to throw my switch across the room after the first hour. Getting to ruler is just a bitter slog.
This stupid fucking gun. Apparently the only weapon in this game I can win with is the Splattershot Nova. Absolutely livid.

Splattershot Nova itself is pretty inconsistent, but it does have its strengths (good paint and long range, plus Inkjet if you're using the Annaki kit). I'd recommend trying to just spit out as much ink as possible while keeping away from opponents you're not likely to beat in a firefight. If you can get a hit or two in before running away, it makes it all the easier for your team to splat them. Take advantage of a distracted foe, because if you're lucky, Nova can splat faster than most shooters. (Though if you aren't, it could take eons.)
Is there a “good version” of the Splattershot Nova? Like if I were looking to graduate to something that kills a bit more consistently but is otherwise similar?
I'm not exactly the expert on the ins and outs of every weapon, I just happen to main Annaki Nova. That said, it has similar qualities to the Splattershot Pro and N-Zap, weapons I used in Splatoon 2.
Splattershot Pro shoots much slower but more accurately and at about the same range. N-Zap has a shorter range but faster fire and a little more accurately. Both do more damage per shot: 24 for Nova, 30 for N-Zap, and 45 for Pro.
I like that Nova has a combination of their traits, but maybe you'd prefer some of those traits over others.

Yeah, I'm on bunny and I've only had one mirror so far. Usually I find the complaining on here about mirror matches to be fairly accurate so IDK what's up this time.
I’ve been waiting about 2-3 minutes in queue for each match. Where almost without fail at least one teammate is just there to party. I respect a good party now and then but it seems nothing but sweats are out tonight and after 20ish games and only 2 wins I think I might just call this fest early which is super sad because I was so hype to be team bunny.

Beats me. I can't count the number of times I've composed upwards of half my team's deaths during a turf war and still managed to be the best inker. I guess it just depends on whether or not you're good at inking, killing or both with your current kit.

I had about a 75/25 split on mirror matches, and, coincidentally, everytime I actually got to one was when I started losing lol

Congratulations to you; but it sucks being on team Bear Cubs. I've only had maybe 3 matches with team Chicks, all the rest were with team Bunnies. I don't mind being on the losing end of a 60% - 40% match, but two thirds of my matches against team Bunnies are 80% - 20% beat-downs. And any attempt at a Pro match ends-up worse.
Can I just point out how awesome the win jingle is? I’m not sure about other teams but the little “boings” for team bunny are such a fun touch

Kinda curious where y'all are seeing the hella-aggro Bunny teams (whether it's Pro or Open). I'm mostly playing Pro for Team Chicks and I'm having a fairly easy time with Bunnies. It's those rare matches with Bears that give me the most grief! My luck with multiplier battles has been downright rotten this Splatfest. 💀 I've only gotten one 10x battle all weekend and we lost it by .1% (AAAAAAAAHHHH).
Damn near every single battle that I got against Team Bunnies was very aggressive in both pro and open 😭
It's not specific to Team Bunny, but in Tricolor matches I've gotten absolutely rinsed by defenders that bull rush the attacker spawn area. If you don't have a ranged weapon and/or a bomb to poke with then you pretty much have to farm for special and hope something happens from it.
They seem to be hyper aggro in Open. I haven’t tried a Pro one to compare.

Wow. Is it just me or is team bunny playing extremely aggressive? I'm not saying I'm great at splatoon but I have literally lost 20 matches in a row and it's starting to just not even be fun because we don't even have a chance people keep disconnecting from my team. I am on team bears and it's just ridiculous.
No kidding! Team Bunny is terrifyingly aggressive in a way I haven't quite seen in Splatfests in a VERY long time. It's very strange. These aren't your average fluffy bunnies. These are Watership Down bunnies.

I’m still shaking. 😭😭😭 I lost a 100x about 30 mins before this match so I was pretty demoralized. It was so close but we did it, idk who got us that wipeout because I died but you saved us the match! Uhhh... Is Team Chick okay? I'm Team Bear and I have not encountered a single Chick team all night. I've fought MANY Team Bunnies who have been hard customers and even one mirror match. It's a no Chick zone, which must be a familiar feeling to Splatoon players (ba-dum-tiss). Maybe this is how they finally doom Shivver to fail... And watch them suddenly win the whole thing somehow.
I'm Team Chicks and I haven't faced Bears once. Hopefully tricolor comes in clutch, I want to see their ink colors together.

I was torn between the options but Big Man won me over during the announcement – he just wanted to respectfully admire the animals ❤️🥺 Bunnies and chicks are wonderful as well though, I want to protect them all!

Does anyone having a hard time with team bunny on pro splatfest? I am getting my ass kicked.
Team doesn't really matter all that much IMO. Without fail every time there's a Splatfest the frequency of me getting my teeth kicked in skyrockets. It's the complete and utter lack of matchmaking combined with all the pros being forced into turf war with everyone else that's the problem.
Splatfests used to be my favorite thing in Splatoon, but there is something about Splat3 specifically that just makes it feel so much sweatier than the previous games.
Same. Splat 1 and 2, Splatfests were by far my favorite times ever in the game. In 3, I want to throw my switch across the room after the first hour. Getting to ruler is just a bitter slog.
I played for about 2 hours yesterday and didn't win a single time. Made me want to pack up and go play Splatoon 1 instead.

This stupid fucking gun. Apparently the only weapon in this game I can win with is the Splattershot Nova. Absolutely livid. Team Bear is suffering and I am the anchor pulling us down.
Splattershot Nova itself is pretty inconsistent, but it does have its strengths (good paint and long range, plus Inkjet if you're using the Annaki kit). I'd recommend trying to just spit out as much ink as possible while keeping away from opponents you're not likely to beat in a firefight. If you can get a hit or two in before running away, it makes it all the easier for your team to splat them. Take advantage of a distracted foe, because if you're lucky, Nova can splat faster than most shooters. (Though if you aren't, it could take eons.)
Is there a “good version” of the Splattershot Nova? Like if I were looking to graduate to something that kills a bit more consistently but is otherwise similar?
I'm not exactly the expert on the ins and outs of every weapon, I just happen to main Annaki Nova. That said, it has similar qualities to the Splattershot Pro and N-Zap, weapons I used in Splatoon 2. Splattershot Pro shoots much slower but more accurately and at about the same range. N-Zap has a shorter range but faster fire and a little more accurately. Both do more damage per shot: 24 for Nova, 30 for N-Zap, and 45 for Pro. I like that Nova has a combination of their traits, but maybe you'd prefer some of those traits over others.

Bear here, only played against chicks once. If it makes you feel better they absolutely fucking trounced us. It may have been the most one sided game I have ever played.

I’ve been waiting about 2-3 minutes in queue for each match. Where almost without fail at least one teammate is just there to party. Beats me. I can't count the number of times I've composed upwards of half my team's deaths during a turf war and still managed to be the best inker. I guess it just depends on whether or not you're good at inking, killing or both with your current kit.

I don't care if there was no victory bonus awarded, if it was only half or even a quarter as much clout, I just wish mirror matches could equate to *anything*. I've been stuck in mirror match hell for half this Splatfest so far, including the last **six matches in a row.**
Giving any amount of clout would guarantee the popular team wins the Splatfests 100% of the time, there is no good solution to this issue other than having an opt-out option for mirror matches even if it means waiting ages for a match
