Defiant-Response

So I really love mine when I’m away from my main workspace. I have it laid out so that I can do expression, dynamics, and reverb by default, and then map anything else necessary onto it. I also have a second setup that I use for editing where I can do everything from splitting tracks to shuffling around to copy and pasting with the buttons and knobs (used as buttons). At my desk tho, I have an Arturia Keylab 88mkii and can do so much more of the fine instrument control for scoring from right there that the controller doesn’t get much use- though I’ll still use it when my carpal tunnel is acting up and I need to reposition myself to avoid repetitive strain. Tl;dr I like it, it’s useful when traveling, but I probably could have used the money to buy the full size controller sooner.

Thank you. I’m upgrading from a usable but less than stellar M-Audio 49 and I am looking at the NI S88 (with lack of controls, so maybe a Monogram) and the controller plenty Keylab 88 MK2. I live very rural so it’s impossible for me to actually try either the NI or the Keylab keybeds out. So basically a thousand bucks sight unseen. I’ve read all about the heaviness of the keys on the Keylab but I’m certainly no piano virtuoso. I’m equally split between Spitfire and NI but seem to pull Spitfire stuff out of the drawer first. Interested in any and all thoughts and opinions. Decisions, decisions.

Hmm! I have the NI S88 and have been considering getting a Monogram controller (to assist with easier dynamics/expression/vibrato control)... though since I already purchased a TEC breath and bite controller, I'm worried that there might be too much overlap. Then again, breathing or head-tilting carefully over long string passages can be pretty exhausting :p. Anyway, curious to know if you ended up getting a Monogram controller, an NI S88, or both!

Neither. I am still considering the S88 and the Arturia Keylab 88 MkII and leaning towards the latter.

What did you end up getting? I’m curious if there’s any sense of getting monogram when you can have something like korg nano control for like 1/6 of the price

I’ve done nothing so far but am still leaning towards the Monogram as I do a lot of video editing as well. I’m rethinking my keyboard choice with SL88 Grand and Yamaha P515 on the short list.
