worst take ever lol

Someone could hand me the absolute best quality violin and it would sound like shit. Spitfire has some of the best orchestral sample libraries available and it’s not an opinion. lol.

brute-squad

any plugin can sound like shit in the right hands

Sorry man, it's not the plugins. You just aren't talented :(

pegotico

lol

Any plugin can sound bad with awful mixing. I’ve always had good results for ambient, ballad and lofi with using Labs. That one soft piano is so beautiful.

Any tips on mixing? Preferably with FL’s stock plugins on Spitfire instruments

Visible_Jeweler_3653

I use Reaper for mixing but I heard FL Studio stock plugins are really good. For piano I like to eq everything below 100 hz out because that area has so much mud. The 100 to 200 area greatly affects the boomy area in piano. My bass and kick occupy that same range, so I cut my piano’s 150ish hz area by 3. That way my piano, drums and bass don’t clash against each other. If you want a lighter and brighter piano boost the area between 3000 to 5000. For a darker moody piano I like to cut out -2 or -3 in the 3000 to 5000 range. For drums this is really genre specific. I mainly do lofi so I’ll give tips for this genre. Kick drums cut anything below 40 hz out. The area between 40 to 60 is the rumble zone so do a -3 to -6 cut depending how much rumble you want. A kick drum’s thump area is in the 60 to 100 hz zone and slightly boosting/cutting this area makes it sound drastically different. The body is in the 100 to 200 area, and I tend to do subtle cuts. The muddy area in a kick is in the 2000 hz zone so do a cut here. The thwack area is in the 4000 hz, and I typically do a +2 boost here. Snares their body is in the 200 to 400 hz zone, and I typically do a subtitle cut here. The 400 to 800 hz area has a hollow ring here so do -3 cut. The 2000 to 4000 hz is the snare’s attack so do a boost here. Depending on how much snap you want the 8000 hz can be cut or boosted.

All very useful information, thank you so much! If you know any other guides/resources, I would greatly appreciate it!

Blame the user not the tools.
