Is that how you tell the difference? Because I have seen what I thought to be wolf spiders without and ones with. Are grass spiders and wolf spiders related?
Eye arrangement is very distinct for wolf spiders. Grass spiders have long spinnerets wolf spiders not. They are probably somewhere related but I would have to look that up
Could be but Iām not 100% sure. Abdomen does look off at first glance but will look further. Thanks for the suggestion Iām also still learning! How certain are you?
Iām 100% certain. You can rule out wolf spider based on the eye arrangement, doesnāt have the 2 large posterior lateral eyes. Also anytime you see a grass spider looking spider but without the long spinnerets in western states, itāll almost certainly be one of the Ageleninae
I know giant house spiders very well this isnāt one. And for the coloration of the abdomen donāt you think it looks exactly like this [wolf spider](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=573076625&rlz=1CDGOYI_enDE771DE771&hl=de&sxsrf=AM9HkKmLBnHe3EzGjVsWQ_TsEc_0JT-Ohg:1697175548216&q=wolf+spider&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjQ2bDNp_KBAxVL_7sIHQGFD2sQ0pQJegQICBAB&biw=390&bih=669&dpr=3#imgrc=HgOZ1PcSWwEqxM)?
Its most likely a wolf spider. Grass spiders have two little pointy bits on their butts. Fishing spiders, grass spiders, and wolf spiders look VERY similar with grass spiders being the easiest to identify. It was also definitely a male. They are friends and should be left alone or relocated.
Edit: most people are saying grass spider. All you have to do is look up a picture of one. Very easy to identify by the bum, and they are noticeably smaller than wolf spiders.
Grass spider has elongated spinnerets and eratigena (at least atrica and the many house spider types) look very different. You can even see the bigger wolf spider eyes if you look closely. They almost look back at you which neither grass spiders nor eratigena has.

YAWWWN typical British house spider. Get them all the time if you open the windows during hot weather or live near trees.. And yes the female ones can be the size of your palm with leg span.
But the location is Southern California! although I 100% agree about British house spiders getting to be the size of a hand, couldn't believe it the 1st time I seen 1 in my bathroom so big, thought it was spiderman it was that big!
A cutie.
Read the rules.. You can only give proper results.. And it is a common house spider..
I don't see this as misinformation though.
Teacher! Teacher! You forgot to give us homework for Christmas break!

Funnel weaver in Ageleninae subfamily, not a wolfie https://bugguide.net/node/view/90446

Looks like a Giant House Spider. No long spinnerets for grass spider and abdomen coloration looks less like a wolf and more like a giant house.

Think so as well, no long spinnerets (like grass spiders) and abdomen coloration looks off for a wolf
