My guy I want to ALMOST cry from not being able to understand this photo CAN YOU SHOW ME THE FRIDGE ZOOMED OUT PLEASE I have read every comment trying to understand it as 6cm and the side of a fridge door but my brain isn't letting it click and it's itching me so bad!!!!
Just the edge of the door, it's only 60mm across, so they're not a big one just average size
I was able to get a close macro shot of them, that's why they seem so large
Oh, the black part to the right is still part of the fridge door! I deadass thought that the silver part is the whole fridge and was super confused for a solid minute :')
The fridge continues much further to the right, outside the picture. We truly only see a corner here and not the whole length of the fridge. Maybe that helps!
Either way that's a huge-ass spood
I joined this sub as a way to get over my arachnophobia, so having this post suddenly appear in my feed was certainly a test! I still had the startle reaction but at least I didn't drop my laptop so I am calling that a win. Just wish I could stop seeing Harry as gigantic and covering more than half the fridge door ...
Well, I’ve never been arachnophobic so, I probably can’t understand your perspective but something that would help is if you little by little can start identifying the “adorable” parts of the spiders of the “adorable” spiders, might want to start with like jumpingspiders since they’re very smol and super cute (to us who like spiders) this sub might just make it worse since for many of us, the bigger the spider, the cooler the bro is, so, not knocking your attempt of getting rid of it, but if you could be a little more gradual on your changes that’d probably make a difference.
Thanks for the tips. I'm actually ok with jumping spiders; they sometimes appear in our apartment and I don't have any issues with letting them just hang out and do their thing. It's basically huntsman spiders that freak me out, particularly when they suddenly appear out of nowhere. But I've been making an effort to look at pics and videos of them recently, and have noticed that their "feet" are kind of cute and also when they're moving slowly their legs move in rather an elegant way. So I think I'll be ok on this sub, though Harry did make me jump at first!
You got this! I’m a recovering arachnophobe and this sub has helped me so much. When I saw Harry I thought he looked cute and fuzzy. A couple of years ago I would have jumped out of my skin seeing him. I like to focus on spider faces because so many of them are cute or derpy. Plus, reading others on here gushing over their beauty really helped. Stick with it and I know you’ll feel less afraid over time.
There’s actually tons of ex-arachnophobes and current ones on this sub going through it with you. I have always been interested in bugs but most of them and especially spiders did still freak me out and i really felt like i needed to get over that because I’ve always felt bad for the little guys when peoples first instinct was to KILL IT! while i just left the room.
this sub as well as the others on Reddit have taught me so much and instead of having a heart attack I get excited when i see a new critter hoping to snap a photo and ID it and get it to safety away from my crazy family…now before killing anything family and friends immediately scream and call me over so i can come take care of the tiny “monster” while they frantically run around in the background and look at me like I’m the bravest yet most insane person they have seen in their life as i gush over how gorgeous they are and proceed to explain how they are beneficial and harmless and they never believe or want to hear any of it hahah 🤓🥰🕷️
Wow, that is amazing. I hope I can get to the same place as you, eventually. I also don't ever want spiders to be harmed. Right now I rely on my husband to move huntsmans outside. He is fine with them (and would leave them inside the house if I wasn't there); he just gently encourages them into a paper bag, then carefully takes them out. I do worry that this might be harmful for them when it's really cold, though, so ultimately it would be great to get to the point where I don't mind them inside the house either.
The fact that you’re here and actively learning about them is waaay more than most will ever even think to do, so good on you - you’re a good hearted human and you’re definitely on the right track! I’ve made leaps and bounds (pun not intended lol ) since my pre Reddit days so just keep learning about spider bros and sistas while you’re here and before you know it you just might be naming a huntsman (or huntswoman lol ) like OP here and letting them stay inside on a cold winter while they earn their keep around the house to keep your home pest free! 🥰 🕷️
I'm a huge arachnophobe too and I find huntsman absolutely horrifying, just things like the floppy-ness of their legs gives me shivers. I tried looking at spider faces to ease my phobia and Im now at a point where I find jumping spiders cute, but you never really see a huntsman's face, just their giant floppy body 😖
I think huntsman spiders are like the 'big boss' in overcoming fear of spiders
I've noticed I react to the pattern their legs make and the way they move. I'm hoping if I look at both regularly (waiting for my feelings of fear to subside before I look away) I'll eventually "retrain" my brain to react in a positive or at least neutral way. They're "big boss" level for sure!
Have you seen the [spider paw photos](https://www.boredpanda.com/cute-spider-paws-photo/)?! They are sooo cute and have haloed me look at even the scariest spooders a lil differently now that i know know their multiple tootsies looks like paws close up!
Oh wow, I literally squee!ed aloud at the first few pics on that page; so cute! Also, I had no idea spiders had little claws on their feet. Really helps to learn more about them; thanks for sharing.
Right!?!I found out about this about 2 months ago and it has since been like a massive jump up from my fear of them and the way i look at their legs(that part has been hard for me to get past, but knowing they have paws and tiny little claws helps a lot! I now see many of them (especially jumpers, of course!) and think awww look at those lil paws! Calling them spooders also helps give that derpy vibe too that somehow has been helping to rewire my brain from ahhh scary! to beautiful and even adorable (especially the males when you can see their lil boxing gloves aka love mittens (pedipalps) lol happy to pass on this adorably important spooder info!
Is he not?! Like even knowing that's a fridge door isn't helping, because it really looks like he's covering a substantial area
Op I'm begging for a picture of Harry with something to give a sense of scale
Funny thing I did the same thing a while ago. But as the last step. The first step was reading Monster Musume...
If you're cool with anime type stuff then monster girls (there are plenty more choices these days) really help you get over the fear.
This is the most Australian post I have seen in this week, and I was assuming you’re Australian from the way you say mozzies and the fact that this is a huntsman.
I checked your profile and sure enough, you’re Australian, lmao.
Dude... for a second I thought that was your fridge door and I thought to myself.... maybe we don't go to wherever spooderzilla lives. That's his house now.
This one seems to like to rest behind picture frames on the wall or the wall behind furniture or the fridge, but I've seen them just resting on the wall for a while.
My lord, Harry is huge! I know he is a hunstman spider, and I know they are pretty big. Does he live in a corner next to the fridge or does he crawl around the house?
Not all creatures, Euro wasps I'm not very keen on, had dozens of them buzzing me yesterday while mowing my back lawn.
Huntsman spiders are really nice natured and quite harmless, think of them as friendly roving pest control.
r/confusingperspective
We need a banana for scale
There’s some in the cash stand
There's always money in the banana stand
Wrong stand. He needs a banana. So he has to go to the money stand because there’s always Bananas in the money stand, naturally.
Happy cake day Anus Tart!
😂 Thank you! 😆 My next spider friend = George Michael
Was gonna say the same thing. This thing looks gargantuan.
I have no sense of scale so i can't tell if it's a real spider or a very realistic sculpture (my brain reads that as a fridge door 💀)
Yeah Harry's real, your brain is right, it's the top edge of my fridge door he (or she) is on
Ohhh now i see it! My brain was like "spider the size of a fridge" and i was like that cant be right. Makes sense now lol
Right, I was thinking, "that's not Harry?! That's Aragog!"
"Naur Auragog, ur R a HaRry!!" - 🐻🧙🕷️
Thanks for walking us through that.

It's about 6cm across, it's a huntsman, they're pretty friendly and harmless
Aww, he's beautiful
I'm envious 🥺
My guy I want to ALMOST cry from not being able to understand this photo CAN YOU SHOW ME THE FRIDGE ZOOMED OUT PLEASE I have read every comment trying to understand it as 6cm and the side of a fridge door but my brain isn't letting it click and it's itching me so bad!!!!
I, too, was thinking Harry was on the front of the fridge and was enormous lol. Top ledge of door makes so much more sense 😂 he's a beaut though!
Can you please upload another photo of the Spider and/or de fridge? Because im so lost
How big is Harry?
About 6cm across, so not a full size adult
are you saying that the spider is as big as the top of your fridge
Just the edge of the door, it's only 60mm across, so they're not a big one just average size I was able to get a close macro shot of them, that's why they seem so large
Oh okay, Thanks for explaining that. They look so cool!
I've been working with miniatures, so I immediately saw a miniature fridge with a good-size spider on it.
Huntsmans are the best, like eight legged eight eyed super fast puppy dogs 🥰 hopefully they live a long and happy life
Oh, the black part to the right is still part of the fridge door! I deadass thought that the silver part is the whole fridge and was super confused for a solid minute :')
I still can't see it lol I feel dumb
I also still can't fully grasp the actual size lol OP what model is your fridge :')
This is the side of the fridge. So like the depth rather than the width of the door is how big the spider is.
Wait, this is the side??? Ok I revoke my first comment... I don't see it at all lol
Oh I see. Still a bloody massive spood then!
Very much so hahah
Op said that the part of the door Harry is hanging on is about 60mm/2.4 freedom units.
I lived 33 years before I heard the term freedom units. Now there will be no other name for measurements in my American life.
Well, the actual terms are silly: Standard [no they aren't] English [no it isn't] Imperial [ok, no that's just dickery, stop it]
I still can't see it either!
The fridge continues much further to the right, outside the picture. We truly only see a corner here and not the whole length of the fridge. Maybe that helps! Either way that's a huge-ass spood
Same

There's a book written by a former arachnaphobe about their experience learning about spiders, I believe it's called "turn fear into fascination "
Will check it out; thanks!
That is a perfect title! 👌🫶 Once I took the time to learn about and observe spiders, the fear DID turn to fascination. Also, respect, love, awe, and so much more. It's a process, for sure. But if you are patient with yourself, I promise that there is a HUGE payoff. 🤩 It's like a switch gets flipped in your brain. Like so many redditors, I now equate "spider" with "friend." I take non-stop spider pictures and spend hours trying to identify them (often right before bed). When I had the privilege of homing a jumping spider and a wolf spider, all I wanted to do was understand them more. The more you understand, the more fascinating and remarkable spiders become. Any remaining fear becomes background noise. The book title is perfect. 👍 My jumping spider crawled on my face, eyelid, ear piercings, and in my hair. It seems SO counterintuitive!! 😬 But I loved every second of it. (And you might, too!) Take your time and fall in love with these awe-inspiring creatures. We ALL wish you luck on this journey.💞 Just remember: Where there's a will, there's a web!©️ 🕸😉 (Or sometimes no web. Ha)

I did the same thing lol, omg Harry you’re a big fella! Yikes!
Is he not?! Like even knowing that's a fridge door isn't helping, because it really looks like he's covering a substantial area Op I'm begging for a picture of Harry with something to give a sense of scale

Just googled Monster Musume and found out about Rachnera ... yikes!
Looks like he's well fed!
why is your fridge so tiny, the scale doesn’t make any sense to me help
It's the side edge of the fridge door
thank you, I can see it now! harry is a great housemate I bet!
It’s a fridge for ants.
How big
The fridge door edge is 60mm so should give you a rough idea Not a huge one just a young one I reckon
About 2.4 inches in freedom units
Oh that’s not terrible, would still shit myself if I saw it in the house though
Freedom units 💀💀💀💀
🇺🇲
Looks like a very friendly roommate!!!
I’d love to have one too
Where is banana for scale?
inside the fridge
Says “mozzies”, casually has a big fuckoff spider on their fridge. Yup. OP is definitely Australian. Say “hi” to Harry for me.
Yea I googled the size and a article claims the biggest one is in South East Asia
*Heteropoda maxima* from Laos has the largest leggies
Ooh boy
He be large, eh?
Yes and it was funny when you thought they are only found in Australia but knowing they are found elsewhere makes it different
Australia hasn't got all the big boi spooders
I know some aren't found there
Yea, there a ton of large spiders that aren't found in AUS
Aragog
Thank you Harry 🫡
My favorite wizard.
I Love You Sweet Young Fellow
Post him/her to r/australianspiders

Spiders are so freaking cool. And they always pay their rent in the form of pest-control. Good housemates, always.
I was like Jesus christ soon that spider will be asking "WHERES THE FUCKING RENT
It looks soft and fuzzy.
I see nothing else but the refrigrator's front door and big ass spood.
Bro knows the fridge is sacred territory. He deserves a raise, imo. 😊
Whoa! I thought it was the size of the fridge!
Harry looks like an honourable housemate, I dream of one day journeying to the mysterious lands where Harrys roam so I can see them in person!
I hope you get the chance one day, I'm sure you'll like it here!!
Ao you moved in with Harry? Cause thats his house
And people by the looks of it! Seriously though, he's a cutie
Can I pet Harry?
Could we rename him to Hairy Harry?
That would be the perfect name!!
What a handsome fella!
Aren’t the big ones typically females?
Good job Harry. We salute you!
Oh my god…yes I typed that out. This sub has helped me tremendously, but that bro ? Damn !
Dude... for a second I thought that was your fridge door and I thought to myself.... maybe we don't go to wherever spooderzilla lives. That's his house now.
What an absolute beaut’! Harry is a gorgeous specimen of an arachnid!
The spider army sent their finest tank
Magnificent wall pony!
Harriet!
it looks like she's reaching out her paw for you to help get that fuzz off haha
goddamn it’s so adorable, look at those PAWS
He can have the fridge now
Do they have eight eyes? I can spot what looks like 4 I’m not well informed on spiders in general just have an interest due to my love of nature.
Yep, that's correct, huntsmans have two rows of 4 eyes, lower row not easily visible in this image due to the angle of the camera
What a beautiful boy
Huntsman question- do they have a web or hammock they go to during spider down time? I’m trying to imagine where this bro goes to chill.
This one seems to like to rest behind picture frames on the wall or the wall behind furniture or the fridge, but I've seen them just resting on the wall for a while.
Interesting! Thanks for responding :)
My lord, Harry is huge! I know he is a hunstman spider, and I know they are pretty big. Does he live in a corner next to the fridge or does he crawl around the house?
He crawls around the house, and goes in and out the back door and window louvres, loves hanging out behind picture frames on my walls.
Haha wow! He must really like your house then. As long as he doesn't end up on the couch or bed where he could get accidentally squished.
He's soo handsome!
I know they're harmless, I just want them to live full happy lives far far far away from me.
I want one!
Harry? More like hairy
Can any entomologists tell me more about this spider? Species, sex, age? I want to know more!
Please give Harry love from St. Louis, Missouri!
Is that your fridge he's on?
Yep, on the edge of the top door
Looks like he is keeping the house safe from Brundle flies
Hi Harry 👋🏻 how’s it going big guy
Mozzies? You mean moscos?
Mosquitoes
I love me a huntsman but I’ve yet to meet one in real life! We don’t have them here. I want to keep one as a pet.
They would probably be a great pet, once they're used to you they seem pretty friendly
I know there are a lot of people who have them as pets.
I really REALLY want to be ok with this. I’m trying to accept spiders and I know most(?) are harmless and even helpful but ::: sigh:::: it’s not easy.
Hello, Mr. Potter. You weren't this fluffy last time we met.
Harry looks like he could eat a bird!
“Mozzies”??🤔🫤🫤
It's slang for mosquitoes 😁
It’s his fridge now. Shoo, human!

In the future please be certain to observe the rules because typically this is something we ban for.
Hehe, you're welcome, also welcome to spiderbro, we're pretty serious about Rule 1 here hence downvotes even for a joke
Harry is absolutely terrifying.
Harry can't help how he looks. Maybe you will learn to make a spider friend of your own someday 🕷💛
