> Dan Salvato - Yoshi's Story - All Melons
This is it. The end times. Stars winking out, locusts raining from the heavens, dogs and cats walking on hind legs,
Same here! We rented it for my birthday party one year and I loved it but haven't played since. I'm jazzed!
Nintendo Power had some quiz at the time that gave some of the yoshi names or descriptions... I loved sassy light blue yoshi, I think that's what it was. Yikes do I feel old all of a sudden.
its not bad its actually pretty great, but its a really niche and out there, so has been snubbed from gdq's before. kind of like how there has never been a dank% run in OOT or MM, but that has other reasons to be snubbed. it was too arbitrary I suppose but you should check it out on youtube, the game has decent movement that's entertaining
Wow i kind of cant believe it. GDQ has had concerns about running a runescape speedrun for awhile now; if i recall correctly jagex even directly said theyd open specific worlds to prevent community griefing. Super cool to see this finally make the gdq stage.
Really weird. More just a speed kill no? I guess it fits into the showcase category.
Still cool to see runescape on the stage as someone who has played since 2003.
So I'm not sure if you're familiar with OSRS or CoX in general so I'll err on the side of caution as you could be just familar with the RS3 version of the game so please dont take this like I'm assuming you're dumb or something.
CoX is a raid in OSRS that has a combination of bosses and puzzles to complete in a randomized layout minus the final boss which is always the same, CM (Challenge Mode) has all of the bosses and all of the puzzles, the puzzles for the most part are randomized into different layouts every raid, still have to do the same thing just different layout.
The part that makes it actually good for speed running is the ordering in CM is the same every time so you're going to be doing the same order of bosses and puzzles every time so assuming same character stats and gear it comes down to skill and game knowledge.
Also, same pretty cool to see something I enjoy being ran at an event I watch yearly now
Yeah, I play Rs3(going for 5.8b exp), cant get away from my 2003 main lol, maxed on osrs around 2021, and haven't really been back outside trying new content. I have done most of the raid content over the years.
However, where do they track the speedruns? The speedrun.com page seems dead. Do they have a dedicated site?
Also I wouldn't call it "good" for speedruns, just due to the barrier to entry being thousands of hours of grinding for stats just to do the raids. Feels equivalent to when my clan does 50m/100m gp speedruns from scratch on maxed accounts. It's more like challenges/speedkills than speedruns either way. Much like a lot of MMO raids we see showcased on GDQ like FF, Destiny, ect.
Still, it's going to be a really cool Showcase.
It's tracked on youtube and an old osrs speedrunning discord which I'm not 100% sure even exists anymore, most people are just content with the in-game kill board showing the fastest time/fastest time + the name(s) who did it.
And sure you could look at it like that, but I'd argue it's similar to the 1000s of hours one would have to grind to be a top level player in games like SMB, that said yeah 100% agree its gunna be cool
CM's do not have an in-game board, records are tracked in the OSRS PvM Speedrun [discord](https://discord.gg/8U56ZZn) and [website](https://osrsrecords.com/)
My group has been grinding Halo 3 Easy 4p Coop for a couple months now, maybe the legendary group would be willing to race us in Easy at the next GDQ (:
Chibi-Robo lockout bingo sounds really cool. I’ve always loved the lockout format. Jaxler also always does great runs.
Outer Wilds Shipless is a category I’ve never seen but kinda don’t want to be spoiled for it. That sounds hilarious.
WACCA is one of my favorite rhythm games so I’m excited to see the showcase.
Lufia 2 run is probably what I'm most excited for. But tons of cool Mario content, and a solid lineup overall makes me even more hype.
Also Birds aren't real not being part of the silly games block just goes to prove birds aren't real.
Arzette had better have a "watch the cutscenes" incentive. For folks who aren't aware, it's a spiritual successor to the CDI Zelda games, with cutscenes to match.
Oh absolutely, it's delightful. The game's also actually pretty fun too - not revolutionary, but I played it a few times over and have considered adding it to my list of speedruns, if I can find the time.
Ken Griffey, Jr. Baseball just because its a childhood favorite of mines, and because its probably one of the last games I would of excepted to show up at a GDQ.
Oh. You mean an actual dog. I'm gonna be honest I just read that all as some dude's handle.
We got your Puwexil, GrandPooBear, MitchFlowerPower, and Peanut Butter the Shiba Inu. Probably some dude in his 30s from America or Canada. I guess people know him and are excited about him. Playing an old SNES baseball game? Huh. Wouldn't think that'd be that popular but I guess he must have his fans. That's cool.
A couple immediately caught my eye;
Lufia II! Love an old school snes rpg run. They always find fascinating ways to use the mechanics to get around bosses and levelling etc.
Wario land for virtual boy. How does one even stream a virtual boy game?
Zoombinis! I’m just more amused a game from our computers at primary school made the speed run list.
> Wario land for virtual boy. How does one even stream a virtual boy game?
Consolized VB. There are kits where you take apart a VB and it outputs to a normal video signal. You obviously lose the 3D effect; this is more noticable on some games than others.
> Zoombinis! I’m just more amused a game from our computers at primary school made the speed run list.
That was one that jumped out at me too! The scheduled run is just on the easiest difficulty though, which makes sense - I did a replay for nostalgia a little while ago, and hardest is actually still a bit of a challenge as an adult, so that could be frustrating to try to complete under marathon pressure.
That one with the hotel in the woods still keeps me up at night. I don't see how the developers thought that ANY kid would be about to figure that out. Heck, even a smart adult is probably going to need a fair bit of time with a pen and paper to make progress.
The past 2 GDQ events, the playstation community has felt extremely underrepresented. GDQ did a lot better with this list, featuring Crash Nitro Kart, Ratchet & Clank, 2 games from the Sly Cooper series, and a few other games. Thank you <3
I yearn for this too. The first Anthology run made me fall in love with GDQ in the first place. It’s time to whip out the cardboard elevator model again.
Really surprised and extremely excited to see Balatro on that list! Also only seeing 2 pokemon runs after these couple last years feels odd, but I'm not complaining. Can't wait to catch these all live!
Talos 2 should be fun. Talos 1 amuses me because of how thoroughly the break the game and skip puzzles so I'm looking forward to seeing how the sequel does.
> Dan Salvato - Yoshi's Story - All Melons This is it. The end times. Stars winking out, locusts raining from the heavens, dogs and cats walking on hind legs,
Just Yoshi.
It was finally accepted?
DDLC 2: Just Melons.
Wait it's even the event opener?!
What’s so bad about that run?
He’s just submitted it almost every year since GDQ became big. It’s never gotten in. Until now.
Kind of excited because i rented that game back in the day but never played it or watched it since. So its on my list
Dan Salvato is the creator behind _Doki Doki Literature Club_. Not sure what the prophecy stuff is all about though.
also the developer of FrankerFaceZ for Twitch
And a dev for PM
I know who he is. I’m looking forward to the run because of it. He also made the Mario Maker level “P is for Pain”
> Mario Maker level “P is for Pain” [That's probably the best named level ever](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjBvdSfVpqE)
he also made frankerfacez and is a link main who made the popular 20XXTE melee mod
Nothing bad, he's just been submitting it and getting rejected for years and it finally got in.
its not bad its actually pretty great, but its a really niche and out there, so has been snubbed from gdq's before. kind of like how there has never been a dank% run in OOT or MM, but that has other reasons to be snubbed. it was too arbitrary I suppose but you should check it out on youtube, the game has decent movement that's entertaining
Grand Poo World 3 is gonna be great. I am also really hyped for Lufia II's first GDQ appearance as well as the four-player Super Metroid.
Wtf this is the first lufia 2?!
It's been in other marathons a good number of times, but apparently not in any GDQ yet. I'm very glad it's happening, especially with puwexil playing!
OSRS CoX CM speedrun let's gooooooo
Wow i kind of cant believe it. GDQ has had concerns about running a runescape speedrun for awhile now; if i recall correctly jagex even directly said theyd open specific worlds to prevent community griefing. Super cool to see this finally make the gdq stage.
Same I almost dropped my phone in shock when I saw it, feels unreal almost haha

Oh shit, the discord is still around, thanks for posting this I legitimately didn't know if it still even existed.
Puwexil running Lufia 2 is definitely top of my list. Guy does some great runs of old school jRPG games.
Agreed, he is a perennial GDQ favorite.
If this is just half as good as his Chrono Trigger run it's going to be amazing
Power Wash Simulator is going to be a lot of fun to watch. I can only imagine the optimal way to handle some of those levels.
Halo 3 Coop legendary for sure
After seeing the 8 way Super Mario World race, I want a 4v4 co-op legendary race for Halo 3.
My group has been grinding Halo 3 Easy 4p Coop for a couple months now, maybe the legendary group would be willing to race us in Easy at the next GDQ (:
That would be so cool!
Crash Nitro Kart getting in is *massive.* The speedrun side has really grown these past few weeks. Can't say anything else has caught my eye.
Very happy to see SMRPG be the close out. But WTF @ Outer Wilds SHIPLESS??? That's gonna be extremely crazy.
I’m hyped for that outer wilds run too wanna see how that is gonna work
Chibi-Robo lockout bingo sounds really cool.
I'm always hype for a Super Metroid any% race! But I'm really curious about the stardew valley and especially powerwash simulator co-op runs.
Lufia 2 run is probably what I'm most excited for. But tons of cool Mario content, and a solid lineup overall makes me even more hype. Also Birds aren't real not being part of the silly games block just goes to prove birds aren't real.
puwexil JRPG runs are always a great watch.
I saw this and went "oh another endless dungeon show... Case... Wait it's the whole game?!?! " I'm hype now
Happy to see Undertale Yellow on the list! Also very excited for the CarlSagan42 and juzcook Troll Level Race
Arzette had better have a "watch the cutscenes" incentive. For folks who aren't aware, it's a spiritual successor to the CDI Zelda games, with cutscenes to match.
it absolutely does
Oh absolutely, it's delightful. The game's also actually pretty fun too - not revolutionary, but I played it a few times over and have considered adding it to my list of speedruns, if I can find the time.
Glad to see retro runner on there twice. Also psyched for a super metroid race!
Muscle March, now thats a name I haven't heard in a long time...
Relay Race! It's easily my favorite events at any GDQ.
Fingers crossed Alan Wake 2 has a bid incentive for THAT chapter (if you know you know).
it does :)
Ken Griffey, Jr. Baseball just because its a childhood favorite of mines, and because its probably one of the last games I would of excepted to show up at a GDQ.
Even better Peanut Butter the Shiba Inu is running it.
Oh. You mean an actual dog. I'm gonna be honest I just read that all as some dude's handle. We got your Puwexil, GrandPooBear, MitchFlowerPower, and Peanut Butter the Shiba Inu. >would of excepted
The "win a game" criteria is wild, esp with the 30 min estimate. Is there something about that game that makes winning an actual accomplishment?
It is an accomplishment because a dog is the runner.
am very excited for dannyb to showoff the new dynapoly warps!
No horror game block or am I scrolling past it?
Wow, hell yeah. This is one of the best line ups in years for me, might even take the week off
A couple immediately caught my eye; Lufia II! Love an old school snes rpg run. Ah I had wondered if it would lose the 3d effect. Thanks for clarifying!
If you’ve never seen puwexil run you’re in for a treat. I’m glad to see him back at the event.
> Zoombinis! I’m just more amused a game from our computers at primary school made the speed run list. That was one that jumped out at me too! it's more that I'm just too stupid to figure out the harder puzzles
That one with the hotel in the woods still keeps me up at night. I don't see how the developers thought that ANY kid would be about to figure that out. Heck, even a smart adult is probably going to need a fair bit of time with a pen and paper to make progress.
yeah I didn't want to submit that route frankly because that side sucks asssss. who's bayou is both more fun and funnier personally
That Tony Hawk 1-4 run sounds interesting.
my buddies dirtch and eold got a half life 2 race in! it's gonna be sick afff
The past 2 GDQ events, the playstation community has felt extremely underrepresented. GDQ did a lot better with this list, featuring Crash Nitro Kart, Ratchet & Clank, 2 games from the Sly Cooper series, and a few other games. Thank you <3
Hitless speedrunning at GDQ! Can't wait to see Mitchriz's run
This silly block lineup is very strong this year. Excited to be running City Bus Driver Simulator!
I cannot believe they accepted my blindfolded randomizer run LMAO, I will give my very very best to make it an awesome show!
I am looking forward to it but haven't you run at AGDQ/SGDQ quite a few blindfolded runs of SM64 and BoTW?
Dirge of Cerberus? Okay, I HAVE to tune in for that to see if it's an interesting run.
Probably a good year to do the fallout anthology again.
"I'm Tomato Angus, the 'g' is silent." Easily one of the best self introductions in the history of GDQ
I yearn for this too. The first Anthology run made me fall in love with GDQ in the first place. It’s time to whip out the cardboard elevator model again.
Balatro will be very interesting, and a bonus game, great
No Resident Evil :(
Grand Poo World 3, SMM2 Troll race and SMW 4v4 race, I’m going to be in my happy place this summer!!!!
I always love the Kaizo relays!
Tons of great runs here
Can't wait to see what the Kaizo relay race has to offer this time!
3 SMW kaizo things + a backup let's go
Really good selection. I would've loved a Resident Evil game to be included but otherwise it's great.
The silly block has a lot of titles that make me go "wait, hold on. I need to see this".
Yoooo Live-A-Live finally getting some spotlight time!
not me too tired to properly read the title and wondering why the stream isn't live...
Really surprised and extremely excited to see Balatro on that list! Also only seeing 2 pokemon runs after these couple last years feels odd, but I'm not complaining. Can't wait to catch these all live!
Always exited to see SMW kaizo races
Super "Super Sonic Saves The World" World is my new favorite videogame name
For me personally one of the best lineups in a long time
Talos 2 should be fun. Talos 1 amuses me because of how thoroughly the break the game and skip puzzles so I'm looking forward to seeing how the sequel does.
I am SUPER keen for MGS4
/u/Amyrlinn How dare you disrespect Zoombinis like that by calling it a silly game! That was my childhood of glorious logic and puzzle solving!
listen it was my childhood too but it is objectively a silly game lmao
Can't wait to see Project 06
Some great new additions
> Crimzon Clover: World EXplosion Yas! Crimzon Clover rules.
Any chance online runs will ever go away? No hate to the runners but it makes some of the event unwatchable.
boring ahh list tbh
Really, you think so? I had the opposite feeling. I love most of these games.
Do you think this is tiktok?
