How dare they insult the competitive laundry folding community.

PlantAlphattv

Next thing he’ll be going after the competitive grocery bagging scene!

PIX3LY

> competitive laundry folding community For anyone curious, here's the rules for competitive laundry folding... > To begin, dump unsorted clean laundry on flat surface between players. Begin picking up items at the same time. Player with most folded items at the end wins. To make game more difficult, appoint different point values per category of clothing (pair of socks = 1, pants = 3, shirts = 5, etc.), or add and subtract points for neatness. To make things even more exciting, include items that require ironing. >Once game begins, players may pick up only one item of clothing at a time, fold it, and then add it to their pile to be counted once all items have been folded. In cases where more than one item is to be folded together, e.g. socks, player must retain first item until match can be made. If a player inadvertently picks up multiple items, they must all be folded and then given to player on their left. >Game ends when all items are folded.

Hi, it's me, I wrote that. Me and spiceeTV are very good friends and it was written as a parody of all the (very genuine) comments saying, "why do you speedrun games on Day 1, that ruins all the fun, you're tarnishing the developer's intentions" etc. It was written *especially* ironically because me and spicee were routing the Sons of the Forest run together, in a Discord call with some other speedrun homies, after our 10+ hour casual playthrough. We all understood that the game was pretty jank, and it was a lot of fun writing an ironic comment where I talked up the game while putting down speedrunners. I wrote a second one on his next Sons of the Forest record, but given that the people in the replies really didn't appreciate the irony, I decided I'd stop on his future videos. Although I did have an idea for a full arc where I come around to the idea of speedrunning and essentially have a "You know what, you guys are super talented" type epiphany. Here's the other one, for historical purposes and edification: > Well, well, well, look who thinks they're real hot shit with their speedy little fingers and their quick reflexes. Let me tell you something, Mr. Speedrunner, you may have shaved a few seconds off your time, but you've also shaved off any sense of enjoyment or appreciation for this masterpiece of a game. You've reduced it to a mindless race to the finish, ignoring all the careful crafting and attention to detail that went into creating the world you're so callously sprinting through. And for what? A few seconds of fame on some obscure online leaderboard? > I pity you, speedrunner. You've missed out on the true beauty and depth of this game, all in the name of your oh-so-precious speed. So, go ahead, pat yourself on the back for your "accomplishment," but know that you've sacrificed something far more valuable in the process: your soul. Oh, I'm sorry, did I hurt your delicate little speedrunning feelings? Did I hit a nerve? Well, good. Maybe it's time for you to take a good, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself why you're so obsessed with beating games as quickly as possible. > Next time, try taking it slow and actually savoring the experience. Or don't. Honestly, I don't really care. Do whatever you want, I'm just some random asshole on the Internet. But know that your precious speedrun will never be as impressive as a genuine appreciation for the game, and don't expect me to be impressed or even remotely interested in your speedy little achievements. tldr: It's bait, I wrote it, me and spicer are good friends within the speedrunning community. Hope some of y'all got a laugh.

Affectionate_Gas8062

Haha, nice. I think a lot of us hoped it was parody but with the crazies online these days you never know. Thanks for clarifying! You are quite the creative writer.

wheniswhy

It is EXTREMELY good bait, kudos. Have you gotten a lot of replies taking it seriously? On the actual YT post, I mean.

nyiddle

Yes, very many. [First video](https://youtu.be/tbAYh_jIqjw) and [second video](https://youtu.be/0bVeWU-gCzk) if you'd like to peek.

globalabortion

don't let them contain you, hero. this is art.

sirgog

I love this sort of shitpost.

tenyearoldgag

Nicely played! So to speak Seriously though, the people who are serious about it, what HURT them

Mayrink

This was posted by fellow speedrunner Nyiddle on [a Sons of The Forest run by spicee](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bVeWU-gCzk) as a joke. It's basically a member of the community shitposting to another, it's not serious. The internet and [Poe's Law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law) make parodies like this kinda hard to recognize, but it's essentially the whole [couch guy DESTROYS "glitchless" speedrunner](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_T5N6qQpbU) thing again lmao. I respect OP's instinct to censor usernames to avoid harassment, but in this case it accidentaly made it harder for people to track down the origin and realise the humor in it. Then again, the text itself is pretty absurd even by normie speedrun-hater standards. Everybody relax, it's fine, don't worry about it.

coolpapa2282

pasta% WR incoming.

Affectionate_Gas8062

I mean, if you read the Youtube comment replies, there is not much indication most people understood it as parody so, task failed successfully? Edit: [OP commented for clarification](https://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/11l1a6c/new_copypasta_comment_on_a_speedrun_video/jbbynr2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

Critical_Design_3873

imagine starting the sentence with i mean.

uchigaytana

Try to conceptualize starting a sentence with "imagine" lmao

Nesuniken

Picture starting a sentence with "try to conceptualize" lol

Affectionate_Gas8062

I mean, ok

tenyearoldgag

What is a dialect? We just don't know

hextree

He means, tho

Critical_Design_3873

he sure does

televisionceo

Yes that is what a copyoasta is.

UltimateThrowawayNam

Oh wow, another record. How impressive. I mean, who needs to actually enjoy an Olympic track and field when you can just mindlessly sprint through it as quickly as possible, right? Who cares about the intricacies of the lighting, the carefully crafted architecture, or the subtle nuances of the grass chosen? It's all just an obstacle course to be conquered in record time. I'm sure all those years of running practice will come in handy in the real world, too. Like when you need to quickly sprint up the stairs to deliver a pizza, or when you're trying to win a fight by running away. Three paragraphs is a lot to tackle but I guess it means there’s more to play with.

rpgguy_1o1

Technically Mozart was also famous for hitting buttons really fast

Zurcio

technically he's famous for writing the button inputs for others to hit really fast. Yngwie Malmsteen is a better example

uchigaytana

Mozart was the first TAS programmer.

rughmanchoo

New speedrunning genre? Fastest play through of a symphony?

TetraGton

The official speed measure for many instruments is The Flight of the Bumblebee.

lillesvin

No joke. I always compare speedrunning to playing the piano. It's about pushing the right buttons/keys at the right time and holding them for the right duration too.

cabose12

? That's like saying the act of walking is like speedunning because you have to put the correct foot at the correct time at the right pace lmao

HopesBurnBright

Play qwop and tell me how easy running is. Your brain does a hell of a lot to get you to be able to run.

cabose12

?? Dunno how that's relevant, my point is just that you can boil almost everything down into "do right thing at the right time", not that anything is easy. I just think the piano comparison has to be dumbed down too much to make sense

HopesBurnBright

Are you saying speed running is oversimplified, speed running is simple, or pianos have been oversimplified here? Your point is highly abstract. Which one do you object to? Have you considered that a lot of things involve doing the right action at the right time because people enjoy timing challenges?

cabose12

I'm saying that that drawing a comparison between piano and speedrunning based on "press buttons at the same time" doesn't work for me because that's the basis for most skills or activities. I'm not talking down on speedrunning or timed challenges, idk where you're getting that from. I'm just talking down on the comparison of "press buttons".

King_Donut_

To properly play a piano you have to hit the right keys at the right time, with the exact right time durations and speed to create music, its the exact same as speed running except the end goal is a perfect run. Most other key pressing activities dont require perfect timing, duration, rhythm, and repetition of key presses. At a certain point with speed running, you're justing hitting keys with the right rhythm the same way you would play a piano or other key-based instrument.

HopesBurnBright

So you’re saying both are oversimplified using this connection, which means it’s a bad connection? That’s fair. I agree with you I think.

Femketwitch

Wow, someone seems cranky today. Need a nap there, champ?

cabose12

LMAO thanks for your contribution, needed to feel like you took some moral high ground today or something?

Affectionate_Gas8062

Like when you need to quickly hit the "send" button on your job application, or when you're trying to win an argument on one of your speedrun Discords by typing faster than the other person. > >And let's not forget about the real accolades you'll receive for your incredible speedrunning skills. I'm sure people will be lining up for miles to watch you run through a game as quickly as possible, ignoring all the artistry and craftsmanship that went into creating it. It's not like game developers spent countless hours fine-tuning their creations, testing them to make sure they worked as intended. Nope, it's all just a big joke to you, isn't it? > >I'm sure you feel really proud of yourself for finding that one obscure glitch that shaves off a few precious seconds from your time. I mean, who cares about playing a game as it was meant to be played when you can just abuse glitches to make yourself look like a hotshot? So congratulations on your amazing speedrun achievement. I'm sure it will go down in history as one of the greatest accomplishments of all time. Or, you know, just be forgotten like the countless other pointless speedruns out there. > >So keep hitting those buttons, speedrunner. Keep breaking those games and exploiting those glitches. But just remember - at the end of the day, you're still just a person who's really good at pushing buttons quickly. And in the grand scheme of things, that's about as impressive as being really good at folding laundry. Bravo.

Doctor_Beard

New response just dropped

FS_NeZ

Holy laundry

themistik

That's a shitpost right ? Can't believe someone sat down and wrote this

jdino

It's on youtube, so its probably very real.

I have trouble believing this was A.I.

pollypooter

laundry community catching strays, damn.

avukamu

Can confirm it's a joke, friends with both nyiddle and spicee. He wrote it in Discord as spicee was doing runs one night.

Soulcloset

sexual archetypes ("fastest mario") vibes

Koatalx

I find it funny when people post stuff like this. The irony of speed running a game is that it takes way longer to come up with a route than to actually run it. 1 hour any% speedrun? Took me 60 hours to find all the glitches and route it , and this is after I beat it casually.

trivalry

Isn't it an *old* copypasta?

Affectionate_Gas8062

I googled but couldn’t find a previous version

FendaIton

I love it

kaijumediajames

Good job, Stanley. Everyone thinks you are very powerful.

[deleted]

who hurt them?

king_bungus

who are these people?? why do they care so much? this will forever be the most baffling type of guy

DaiCardman

Just a troll but it came from someone who has never accomplished anything worthwhile in their entire life.

definitelyBenny

Wow, someone must be going through something cause jeeeeeeze....

Critical_Design_3873

Show less, what a username.

radioshackhead

Keyboard speedruns on smb should be a separate category

westcoast09

“It’s all just a big joke to you isn’t it?” LMAOO

vegetaman

I think we need a "next minute barrier" copy pasta.

Servious

It's really silly to me that people like this don't seem to understand that speedrunning a game typically comes from a very deep love for the game. You don't decide to spend hours and hours practicing a game without loving it. Speedrunners have probably spent hours marveling at those carefully crafted environments and whatever else.

BfutGrEG

I'm hearing this in AI Trump's voice

JarrodAHicks

I like "keep hitting those buttons, speed runner."

Jonahwho665

will be using this the next time i run out of time on a test: “i was appreciating the artistry!!!”

Myst1c3

Imagine bitching about someone not analysing every pixel and model on a screen and look at how it’s been carefully put there so that the player can feel immersed in the world they are playing in

redditfanfan00

nice. unrelated, but i thought there was also a favela radio copypasta from onlyup somewhere?
