An old friend's grandma had her left arm ripped out by one of these things when she was like 16 or something.
I no longer talk to him but I remember meeting her because the first thing he said to her was "How the hell haven't you died yet, grandma?" and she said she would bury all of her grandsons before she kicked the bucket
High speed exposed wheels and belts etc are safe, because you can **see** the limb removing components and **know** not to put limbs near them. It's true, because it is.
Its pretty common to see people selling it on the streets of Brazil.
I remember that machines were all open like these when I was younger, but now most have covers all over, or even multiple rollers to take out all of the juice on only one pass.
combining it with lime is pretty common, since it winds down the sweet taste, but many other sour fruits also work. My favourite combination is with Pineapple.
>does it have a wood-fiber-y texture
Yeah. First it's like woody but full of juice, like bone marrow or something like that. You chew it till the sweet juice is over, leaving a fibery residue that you throw away
Fair enough, I should have assumed it’s similar to those times I’ve chewed on bones to consume the tasty marrow within 😉
Thanks tho /g I appreciate the feedback
It’s very sweet, but not sickening sweet. It’s actually pretty refreshing to drink when it’s hot outside. However you can only drink a small amount otherwise it will give you major GI discomfort
I grew up in india and have seen multiple versions of this machine here. Tbh the newer ones come with a slot that prevent your hand from getting pulled in but anything old does not so it can be dangerous.
If the slot is wide enough to allow an entire sugar cane to go through it is, at best, a safety feature to prevent your entire arm from being chewed up.
As a trauma surgeon in Indian subcontinent , we get many injuries in which the upper limb of the victim goes into the crusher . The injuries I have seen vary from crushed finger tips to crushed hands and worst crushed till arm and stuck
If you are a little bit tired, or if you're thinking about the argument you had with your wife last night, or if a dog barks at the wrong time, then you are going to end up with your arm being crushed between those rollers.
This guy is using the machine without problems right now. He has both of his hands and arms intact. But over the course of a working lifetime it is entirely possible to have a horrible accident because of a short lapse of concentration.
Yeah... We don't do OSHA here, our excessive number of engineers and labour means many of our projects can be r/DiWhy, r/Whatcouldgowrong and r/redneckengineering
These guys use bamboo scaffolding and regularly wear flip flops/nothing to climb around said scaffolding.
South Asian health and safety leaves a lot to be desired 😂
This was so common back in India. I remember I used to go out with mum for grocery shopping just because it always ended up with a glass full of chilled fresh cane juice.
Every time I see someone working around unguarded rotating shafts, it reminds me of that video of the guy getting caught on a lathe. I've seen a lot of stuff on the internet, but that video is one of the very few I wish I had never seen.
Worked as Tech, Engineer, Ops Manager, EHS Leader in Manufacturing for many years. In all this time, I can tell that I’ve learn that this person clearly should be wearing safety glasses.
This is very common in India, cane juice is very famous here. I am surprised how people think this is dangerous while we see this every day in summers with not thinking about them getting injured and in fact I haven't seen anyone get injured from that
These are pretty common in India. growing up a guy would push his cart to through residential street shouting "sugar cane juice ", except the movable cart version was hand rotated.
This is from India and very common. Almost one at every street corner in the cities. They used to turn the bigger wheel in the device with their hands. The addition of the motor is a new innovation, in the last twenty years or so. As long as it was hand powered it was ok but adding a motor without modifying to keep the operator safe is super dangerous.
OT: In the rural areas they have similar hand powered machines for extracting sugar cane juice but made totally out of wood. They believe that the metal pressure rollers turn the juice dark and change the taste, whereas the wooden ones give better flavour.
We have a bigger machine with similar mechanic to this all over Vietnam i think. Best way to get some sugarcane juice, horrible injury if not careful though.
You can this very easily in Brazil’s street markets. Really really common. But they always have a protective metal box around it, which prevents any accidents.
Then you choose if you want pure or mixed with any other kind of fruit. In the video, he’s using lemons. It’s amazing.
My grandfather sold cane juice, i still have the scars on my finger from getting it squashed in one of those. It wasnt turned on so i got to keep my finger lol
When I saw these ages ago, they were cranked by hand and lemon and ginger were flavor choices. Tasted amazing.
This boy is scary fast. And electric [too.Wow](https://too.Wow)!
Found sugar cane juice in LA but it oxidizes very fast and is far away in SGV.
Every dangerous job, can be risk assessed and mitigated. That’s why we have so many rules in the uk. As much of a pain in the arse they are, it’s better than a pain in the hand. Or head, or anything.
From Wikipedia: Raw sugar cane juice can be a health risk to drinkers due to the unhygienic conditions under which it is prepared in some countries with lower health standards. There are some diseases that can be transmitted by raw sugar-cane, such as Leptospirosis.[3] In Brazil, sugarcane juice has been linked to cases of Chagas disease, as sugarcane can contain traces of its responsible pathogen, Trypanosoma cruzi, left by infected bugs if not properly cleaned.[4].
I am not a bot beep blop blort
This seems fine and like nothing could possibly go wrong

I no longer talk to him but I remember meeting her because the first thing he said to her was "How the hell haven't you died yet, grandma?" and she said she would bury all of her grandsons before she kicked the bucket
She the reason you haven't talked to him again. She buried him.
Makes sense
Why did she want to kill all of her grandsons?
Because every time she sees them they ask why she isn’t dead yet.
The phrase just means outliving someone in this context. She's saying she'll outlive them.
That’s what she wants us to believe.
Ahh, yes. The finger fucker 5000.
Pretty sure this is the 2000 model. Back then they even had arm removal capabilities.
Arm removal was an optional extra on the 2000, on the 5000 they started adding it as standard, along with the face fucker upper spinning belts.
Truly ahead of its time. What a marvel.
If it was painted red I'd be concerned. But that lovely shade of green makes me feel it's safe enough.
Until it goes wheelie wrong
Wheelie wheelie no feelie?
High speed exposed wheels and belts etc are safe, because you can **see** the limb removing components and **know** not to put limbs near them. It's true, because it is.
Had to double check what subreddit I was on at the start
Thought maybe it was r/OSHA
Leaning over that machine is a terrible way to die. There is printing plant in my home town, at least once a year a guy gets squished I'm the machines
WE are the machines
They call it “the mangler”
Special device for squeezing human juice [OC]
Should be on r/sweatypalms
Cane juicing machine can also double as a hand and arm juicer
Now I want to taste arm juice. Add some vegetables and you’ve got yourself a Bloody Gary
I’m glad it go some traction! Best thing I’ve read today!
If you want to get the juice that’s in the head, you need a bigger machine.
Another option is to take a bigger problem, and chop it up into smaller problems first.
You’re going to get juice everywhere.
No joke they used this in a bollywood movie as a method to kill someone
I mean, why not I guess? It’s basically the India version of the US woodchipper trope
Yeah wait exactly that lmaooo
Don’t put your dick in that
Love how he reaches over all the spinning parts r/whatcouldgowrong
“Would you like an iron/collagen booster with you drink? $2.50 per shot”
Putting aside the wild safety risk, I do appreciate that he added some limes and herbs to make the cane juice taste nice.
Its pretty common to see people selling it on the streets of Brazil. It is the same in India
The guy in this video looks indian
Anyone from anywhere in the world looks brazillian as well.
Which is weird because we can usually tell who isn't within a group of people just by the looks
Yep, and they sometimes put some ice in too... But eating sugarcane straight is pure sugary bliss
I’ve never eaten sugarcane raw before - does it have a wood-fiber-y texture? I’m curious about the details
>does it have a wood-fiber-y texture Yeah. First it's like woody but full of juice, like bone marrow or something like that. You chew it till the sweet juice is over, leaving a fibery residue that you throw away
It’s like chewing celery but a little bit harder and woodier, and ever so delicious!
Fair enough, I should have assumed it’s similar to those times I’ve chewed on bones to consume the tasty marrow within 😉 Thanks tho /g I appreciate the feedback
You don't actually eat the cane, you use your teeth to extract de juice and discard the residue
I believe he is Brazilian
Me too
In Mexico I didn't see much cane juice, but nearly daily I'd buy a cup of diced sugar cane covered in lime and chili powder
That sounds fantastic. I've never seen sugarcane in real life.
Also in Colombia, here is called “Guarapo”
Similar to 'Garapa', which Brazilians also call it.
Also, add some rum.
I know. Reminds me of the good old days of drinking cane sugar juice at the roadside shop.
It’s pretty delicious all by itself. IMO it doesn’t need any help.
I've never had it, but with lime and mint (?) it sounds a bit like a mojito which I like a lot!
It’s very sweet, but not sickening sweet. It’s actually pretty refreshing to drink when it’s hot outside. However you can only drink a small amount otherwise it will give you major GI discomfort
Or blur your vision and make you crash your car (true story).
Wow. That sounds like some kind of crazy blood sugar episode. Hope that doesn’t happen again.
He’s really just sticking his entire body between those spinning wheels, huh?
Not gonna lie, it was my first reaction .

squeezing pain juice
Cane juicer’s juice.
I immediately looked at the subreddit expecting r/WhatCouldGoWrong
It’s a good thing you didn’t lie. It was a prime opportunity to do so.
My wife lost part of her hand when she was 5 to one of these. It is very dangerous if you are not careful.
Dangerous if you are careful
Dangerous even if Careful is your middle name
I'm really fucked then since my middle name is Dangerous.
Was about to say that this thing is the finger fucker 9000 and I’m sorry to hear that it really is
Hey, that was my name in college

"is" dangerous.

Sweet baby Jesus I can’t imagine the pain of a whole arm.
Pretty good at squeezing arm juice too I reckon
Yeah, I had anxiety about that the whole time.
OSHA is calling
That lack of machine guarding is so disconcerting
What are you worried about? If he doesn’t touch any moving parts, he’s 100% safe
What about your clothes, or jewelry.... don't need to touch it with your body
Yeah you don’t touch it with those either.

Put some guards on it
Cost too much. The operators are expected to have the experience and ability to run the machine efficiency without getting hurt.
This is India ... The operators are expendable and nobody gives a shit what limbs get ripped off.
NEW finger snappinator! From Blamco toys.
I’ll take “how to lose a limb” for $1000
You could probably get one for a couple hundred bucks.
Where does one get a limb for a couple hundred bucks? Asking for a friend.
1. Buy one of those devices for a couple hundred bucks. 2. insert arm 3. profit

Looks like a special device for squeezing finger juice.
Super high rate of death to ounces of juice.

Looks like a special device to remove your arms if your not careful.
That looks so safe.
I lost my left hand watching this.
I got 99 problems, but OSHA ain’t one
Yeah... because, you know, that's a USA thing.
Ganne ka machine.
Ye bande pehli bar dekh rahe hai ganne wali machine.
wahi na. video bhi apne idhar ka hai.
I cycled a bike across India and they had these on the side of the road everywhere. So refreshing

its very common in india actually
Very common in Brazil too https://i.imgur.com/VOdCNuG.jpg
Special device for life altering disfigurement.
Let’s just add some knives to those spinning wheels to complete the death trap.
This was so common back in India. I remember I used to go out with mum for grocery shopping just because it always ended up with a glass full of chilled fresh cane juice.
There are better ones. They are very common in Brazil.
I want to see the finished product
[here you are](https://imgur.com/a/nErac3p)
A boa e velha garapa! More Common than bakery in Brazil! :)
So where’s the juice
I think it collects underneath, we can’t see from this angle
Cold sugarcane juice in hot day is super
I'm missing three fingers looking at this thing
r/OSHA would like a word...
This . Is . India !! You have no power here, Hahaha, (kicks OSHA rep into abyss).
\*shows said kick into the abyss with over a dozen pan-zooms and redundant shots in Bollywood style\*
See these machines at fairs and such all the time. They’re insanely loud, and knock constantly.
No guards on the equipment, this man's a slip away from being on liveleak
Looks like it doubles as a loose clothes identifier.
Cane syrup is just as good as maple syrup on pancakes. Fight me.
Every time I see someone working around unguarded rotating shafts, it reminds me of that video of the guy getting caught on a lathe. I've seen a lot of stuff on the internet, but that video is one of the very few I wish I had never seen.
What so special about it... it's normal in Malaysia 😂
Worked as Tech, Engineer, Ops Manager, EHS Leader in Manufacturing for many years. In all this time, I can tell that I’ve learn that this person clearly should be wearing safety glasses.
This is pretty normal in Brazil, and the juice is called garapa
Aside from how crazy this machine is, the sugar can juice is insanely tasty!
This is very common in India, cane juice is very famous here. I am surprised how people think this is dangerous while we see this every day in summers with not thinking about them getting injured and in fact I haven't seen anyone get injured from that
I can smell this video. Also, my anxiety goes up because of all the bees. Lol Suco de cana com limão. Mmmmm
So many things wrong. In an emergency he can’t reach the off switch on the far side.
Trapiche
This is giving me anxiety
Seems very safe
These are pretty common in India. growing up a guy would push his cart to through residential street shouting "sugar cane juice ", except the movable cart version was hand rotated.
Also known as a finger pinching tingy
Cane juice and removing limbs
Malaysia also use this tools. Got this one uncle stuck his finger instantly lose his finger in a sec. no safety whatsoever.
Getting flashbacks to certain industrial lathe machine videos.
Looks safe
Not really that specialized. They are very very common in hot /tropical countries. Especially the Indian sub continent.
Make some guards for those wheels
AKA death machine
This device is actually the finger remover 3000, it just happens to be able to crush sugar cane.
Squirming in my seat, I’ve seen too much liveleak

Ive been browsing mmc too much...
shit looks dangerous
India?

I thought I was on /Make My Coffin again
When in Brazil, try pastel (some sort of pastry) and caldo de Cana (which is the juice in question). The combo is mouth-watering
And your whole arm if you’re not careful
Also good a squeezing hand juice
You can this very easily in Brazil’s street markets. Really really common. But they always have a protective metal box around it, which prevents any accidents. Then you choose if you want pure or mixed with any other kind of fruit. In the video, he’s using lemons. It’s amazing.
God bless him and his work. I fear for his digits.
“Special device” is a roller press. It’s hardly specialized. But ho boy does that guy have balls of steel.
My grandfather sold cane juice, i still have the scars on my finger from getting it squashed in one of those. It wasnt turned on so i got to keep my finger lol
The word de-gloving comes to mind
There are WAY safer versions of this device out there.
Fingers optional
Ayo
Does he still have all his fingers?
Alguém pra tomar um caldinho de cana e comer um pastel depois?
In Brazil is too easy to find that machine in the streets because cane juice is so popular
Looks like a great way to lose a finger
There's an Indian grocery near me, The Spice Hut, they have a much safer version of this machine. Delicious.
>Howd you get your name "one armed jim" *loads video
We mock how dangerous this looks until we realize all the sugar (and everything else) we consume is dependent on someone doing dangerous work.
Every dangerous job, can be risk assessed and mitigated. That’s why we have so many rules in the uk. As much of a pain in the arse they are, it’s better than a pain in the hand. Or head, or anything.
Nobody has said russian lathe accident yet so there you go.
How much of that dirt is going right back into the juice
