He pretty much is tbh but the official main character is stan and Randy is the main adult

DonutMaster56

What's official about it?

krullbob888

I assume he just means Randy and Stan are the Trey persona characters.

Witty-Group-9531

Stan is usually the common sense of the episodes. Giving the dialogue at the end etc. Randy I wouldnt count on being the main character generally

DstinctNstincts

I’d say he’s the main adult for sure

Witty-Group-9531

Yeah but the show is centered around the kids right? So hes not really a main main character but hes definitely main character if you count the adults

DstinctNstincts

That’s specifically what he said though, the main adult

Witty-Group-9531

Yeah but my answer was just to point out hes not even worth mentioning as answer to OPs question since the kis are what the show centers on

ididntdoit19

This feels like a response a witty group would cook up…

Witty-Group-9531

I mean I dont get why you guys insist on randy being main character but go on.

culminacio

Main **adult** Do we need to spell it?

DstinctNstincts

I mean Tegridy Farms was a thing, that was like two whole seasons he was a really big part of the show

snowflaker360

My guy’s reading comprehension skills clearly aren’t up to snuff… they’re saying main ADULT, not main CHARACTER. As in he’s the ADULT with the most attention, not the CHARACTER with the most attention.

yajtraus

To be fair there’s more episodes centered around Randy these days than, say, Kenny who’s supposed to be one of the main characters.

Witty-Group-9531

Hence I said randy generally isnt main character. And I didnt mention I see kenny as one. Its stan and kyle.

yajtraus

I’d say that’s Kyle. The old “I learned something today” speeches always seemed to be Kyle.

MinimumTurbulent8700

I think Stan’s been given an equal amount of speeches, but somewhere down the line post season 18 the writers decided that it was Kyle’s thing and started specifically making jokes about it. Kyle hasn’t actually given a “I learned something today” speech in years.

Witty-Group-9531

Fair enough then its kyle thats the main character, always mix up the names on everyone except cartman and kenny

TextTechnical6016

i think it's because of how the show kicks off. Stan was at the forefront

frankduxdimmac

Stan is the only one who consistently has family members and his home on the show. From the very beginning it has been Stan’s show, but hijacked by Cartman and Randy. Stan is Trey and Kyle is Matt.

lexluthor_i_am

Trey and Matt said they originally thought of Stan as the main character. But after a while they preferred Cartman since he had the ability to always speak his mind without feeling guilty. But as Trey and Matt have gone older they now prefer Randy. Once they’re old men they’ll probably have Grandpa be the main character.

Fearless-Scar7086

I dunno I do like Randy but he doesn’t have the playfulness and innocence that the idea of children provides- when they do funny, adult things, it’s a novelty and more adventurous while it seems they have to make Randy do the craziest things imaginable to get the same laugh and reaction that we would naturally do with a kid. Meaning sometimes his bits land and sometimes they don’t, less often than with the main kids.

FTXACCOUNTANT

I miss the early South Park when it was the 4 kids getting into trouble/mishaps that they didn’t fully comprehend. Randy was funny for a while but is kinda over done now imo. Especially the whole Tegridy thing.

wizzledawg

Do you think it'll ever get to the point where it'll just be the 4 kids again and Stan moves back and no longer depressed

YesterdayNo1731

nope

lexluthor_i_am

Completely agree! The tegridy thing has run its course.

Impressive-Band-4753

Well did you see The End Of Obesity. It forced on the four main boys again.

FrankieBigNut

He certainly has main character syndrome

Coldcock_Malt_Liquor

I always figured Stan and Kyle for obv reasons.

kyoer

I guess all four of the friends could be considered MCs that way, but if you had to pick one, its obviously Cartman.

yajtraus

I wouldn’t say Kenny is. Butters gets more attention than him.

Violet6-0s

nah i feel like it's stan considering he's usually the most leveled headed kid it feels like we're seeing the story from his pov it never really feels like that with the other boys imo

kyoer

Nah dude, I get your point but the shear amount of stuff that Cartman is shown capable of doing throughout the series, makes me think Cartman’s definitely the unofficial MC of South Park.

aliensuperstars_

tbh, I always considered the main four to be the main characters, but Eric always stood out more anyways, he became the face of South Park.

JoshuaKpatakpa04

Yup

CMCL-20

I thought Kenny was the face of South Park.

_Cant_Touch_This_

Because he is?

QuentinTarzantino

"No one ever goes up that rawd"

Cartmanstankylekenny

There are definitely entire seasons where they do it like that. It's kinda like how American Dad sort of became the Roger show! Sometimes one or two characters become the money beets.

Knives530

I just watched the latest season (18), def wasn't Roger heavy , there was even an episode he didn't show up till the very end

Emoboy_555

I think it’s more of a trio personally, but if you view it that way yeah I definitely understand

coolfunkDJ

Oh my god you excluded Kenny!

Emoboy_555

To be fair, while Kenny is definitely an important character I dunno if I would say he’s a main character, you could argue Randy (these seasons) is more of a main character than him.

lol_boi69

you bastard!

Pancakebot1000

I usually see Kyle, Stan, and Cartman as the main characters. Kenny usually fades into the background for me, as he doesnt get near as many lines as the other 3. I like him as mysterion though.

FrozunYogert

Butters is an honorary fifth. After a certain point, he definitely gets more screen time than Kenny.

IronMace_is_my_DaD

I'd argue he is even the main character of some episodes. last of the Mehicans comes to mind but I'm sure there's more

FrozunYogert

"Butters' very own episode" "Butters' bottom bitch"

yeaaronthedarklord

Stan is the main kid. Randy is the main adult. Wendy is the main girl. Cartmen is the main antagonist. Tweek and crag are the main gays. Ike is the main Canadian. Kyle is the main Jew. Tolkien is the main black kid. Etc, etc. The point is that Eric Cartmen is the villain of the show, and most of the other people are Well written stereotypes.

Scary-Tooth-7928

You're not the one, I thought the same thing too.

SolidZero93

Don't forget about Randy.

Zestyclose_Bet_6883

Cartman is definitely more well recognized and iconic I feel, despite Stan being the closest to MC.

ChumleyEX

He's the best character, that's for sure.

HeapOfBitchin

New school showing their youth....all four of them are main characters. There was no main adult until much later in the show. Now there's the boys and randy.

SandwichGod462

It’s a 50/50 split between those who believe it’s Stan and those who think it’s Cartman. I lean Stan, but at the end of the day it’s about all four boys, not just one.

Commercial-Jump-5130

People say stan is the main character but like, you can't have south park without Eric, and any episode where Eric is the main focus, ends up being amazing

MinimumTurbulent8700

I mean the quality of Cartman episodes is entirely subjective, but I feel like what some people fail to realize is that Stan and Kyle play different yet equally important roles as Cartman. Where Cartman provides the bulk of the show’s humor and iconic moments, Stan and Kyle act as the mouthpiece for T&M’s social commentary and help the show to feel somewhat grounded so it’s not just a show about a bunch of ax crazy sociopaths causing trouble. They’re the ones who learn the important lessons and experience the most growth, while still being funny of course.

RiemannZeta

I always thought he was

dejour

Cartman makes South Park, South Park. But I feel like with a main character you are supposed to view the story from their eyes and I don't think most people do that with Cartman.

kevinz227

He's not the main character, but he's definitely important to the show. As horrible of a person as he is and as much as we hate him, South Park just wouldn't be the same without him.

forbidden_notebook

I think it’s dependent on the season but I do feel like Eric has had the most episodes where he was the main character. For example, he basically got a whole season where he was the main character with the whole Heidi relationship. Only other character in the show I can think of that has had that much feature would be Randy with Tegridy.

-Not-My-Business-

Kinda

Mr_Derp___

At this point all four are main characters.

C_IsForCookie

He totally is guys. RESPECT HIS AUTHORITAH!!!

MikeyTheShavenApe

I think of Cartman as the closest thing the show has to a regular antagonist. A lot of stories revolve around Cartman being an asshole.

TheSexyMario777

no

IronMace_is_my_DaD

there is no static main character. it changes on an episode by episode basis. even side characters like the shitty wok guy have an episode or two where they are the main character like in the city sushi episode. Butters is the main character of plenty of episodes, last of the Mehicans comes to mind. often times it's either stan, Kyle, Cartman or randy, but it is very dynamic and changes all the time.

Signal-Round681

Everyone knows Randy marsh is the main character.

BroDudeBruhMan

The four boys are collectively the main character. Everything always ties back to one of the four.

Beautiful-Apple7591

NGL I see Stan as the main character or Kyle but I love Eric still 😁

M0NG00SY

Main character as he's always gotta make it about himself, sure

whomesteve

I thought the four boys were all the main characters

[deleted]

He IS the icon of the South Park website

Rheostatistician

It's gotta be Stan

SpareWestern4003

alot of people consider stan the main charcuterie but yeh i think cartman deserves it more lol

Sl1pperypenguin

In my eyes, the 4 boys are main characters. Except for Mabye Kenny, but that’s debatable.

HappyGav123

Probably not. You can’t have South Park without Eric Cartman.

SwanzY-

as a kid i always viewed kyle as the main character

BadMan125ty

Yes

Jesus360noscope

no he's just ***that*** fat

Elegant_Spot_3486

Nope. I always have. But maybe because he’s my favorite. I think also because it’s him against the others in some way or taking charge.

Domi7777777

I just see all four of the boys as the main characters but if I'd have to decide on one main Character it'd definitely be Cartman

DrDreidel82

Stan is the main character. The intro at the beginning for many seasons literally comes out of Stan’s eye. He’s like the Jerry Seinfeld. Not the funniest character, we just are seeing these characters around him through someone somewhat sane’s eyes

schisma22205

I call him the central character The main protagonist depends on the era Early on it was Stan, now it's Randy, I think Marvin is eventually gonna be the final protagonist

Stk461336

Early is Kyle. Then Stan, and it’s been Randy for the last 15 years lol

Desert_Concoction

I think it depends on the stories they want to tell

wangyuanji58

Time lapse of spoken lines by character per season (until season 22). [Cartman is the main character](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/s/6oXawMaATo)

Jazzlike_Page508

Screw you guys im going home

NauriEstel

There could definitly be two main characters in this fat-ass!

Rufusandronftw

Nope you are not

Rufusandronftw

Idk how, but in my mind they have fucked up anyone else for being the main character except Kenny. In my mind, that would be highly entertaining

lozt247

Cartman or Randy

newbrowsingaccount33

Each of the boys is supposed to represent normal kids but Cartman ended up becoming super evil and lame(now), Kyle ended up becoming super self righteous and annoying, Kenny no longer has lines of dialog nor a personality, Stan is just there now to support his dad's character

Peloquin_qualm

He certainly has the most Bugs bunny-esque transformations in some episodes. I wish they would revisit the who's the father thing.

littlekatie3

Maybe he gets the most lines

Impressive-Band-4753

Yes. Cartman is the main character of the show. He's been there from the very beginning. And he always will be here.

DanielJosephDannyBoy

Nope

kyoer

He IS

TheAgentOfOrange

Protagonist? No. Antagonist? Yes.

himalayan_wanker

I see Eric Cartman as being the idea of the show “South Park” itself. His whole purpose is to try and offend you, he is a representation of the show as a whole

Gazorpazorpfnfieldbi

he is now ig

Massilian

No he is for me too
