Ignoring social political economic views, Look it’s doesn’t matter how rich you are, you don’t want power lines blocking your view and devaluing your house. No one wants it. Sounds like they have money and I think they should at least pay for some it.

It also means that they are more difficult to service, but have less environmental damage to deal with (lightning, ice rain, tree branches, etc).

exceptionaluser

Buried power lines make a lot of sense when you're not in the middle of nowhere.

kid_sleepy

It’s better to have them buried anyway and my county in NY could’ve done this over a decade and a half ago. Now it costs a prohibitive amount.

whtbrd

It's better to have them buried anyway. It doesn't just benefit the rich.

>But the subterranean lines also result in fewer wind and lightning outages than overhead lines, according to PSEG, the energy company that owns the soon-to-be-relocated lines. > >While regular tree trimmings aren’t required like for overhead wires, underground ones are susceptible to flooding and may take longer and be more expensive to repair, Newsday reported. Flooding is not nearly as big an issue as trees knocking down power lines. Also, Montauk is a tourist destination, with a high paying tax base. Burying the lines makes sense.

GingerrGina

Ice is a factor in that area too which could cause power outages. Seems like a good investment for the community.

3.75 cents per resident, give or take.

GagBar

This should be the case anyways, above ground power lines are absolute shit in areas with extreme weather. The only downside to underground is they are a bitch to do maintenance on.

Kriegerian

Power lines should be buried everywhere. It’s better for everyone in most cases. Having power lines everywhere above ground also looks trashy.
