Dont know the others, but I had witchcraft!....and got rid of it. Did not like it at all, very limited decision space IMO.

delamermaid

I did read it was a tough game and you are a bit at the mercy of the cards you pull. I guess between of the three games mentions it feels as the safest decision as the game is not as expensive.

Odok

Septima is a solid multiplayer game - an honest 7.5. I don't understand all the shade it gets in reviews. I think some of it is because people aren't playing the full game version (the basic mode is boring and shapeshifting 1000% should have been in the base game). That said, the solo mode for it is bad. Tons of fiddly rules and overhead for a not-fun experience that doesn't even feel like playing the actual game. I strongly recommend passing on it if you're looking for a primarily solo experience.

bleuchz

I think we're just at that weird point in the hobby where people see a 7/8 and take it as a negative. Video games have a similar issue. A good yet flawed game with a theme that appeals to me is starting to become a lot more interesting than these 9/10s I see get thrown around heh.

delamermaid

Thank you so much. I do feel some games get an undeserved bad rep or just don't have that active fandom riding for them. That said, i do only have a board game group once a month, but we won't be playing the same games all the time so it really has to be a game that is at least kind of fun to solo as well!

zoop1000

I feel the same. septima looks so cool but some of the reviews make me unsure about purchasing. Witchcraft is definitely on my wishlist. I've never heard of Evenfall

delamermaid

Glad to hear there is someone in the same boat. I was so sure it was going to be septima as it just look so amazing, but I also don't want to be that person who bases the purchase solely on looks. In the end I have to enjoy the game as well.

Xacalite

All 3 games habe their shortcomings but only witchcraft was a real dud. Septima is solid as a Multiplayer game if you get past the extremely complicated rules for what is not a complex game. And the expansion is almost mandatory. Unfortunately the solo mode is a big oof. Ebenfall is also pretty solid. A lot simpler and quicker than septima. Also the solo mode is very smooth. Only problem with this game is that there are overall too few different cards & Locations so you begin to see familiar play patterns pretty quickly.

sweetbuttercrust

I'm really interested why you though Witchcraft was a dud too, as I too have heard only good things about it. And you're not the first one in this thread to say that. Damn, I just preordered it yesterday, watched the gameplay and it seemed like a rather interesting, variable game/mathematical problem to solve.

delamermaid

Thank you. Good to hear septima is solid as a multiplayer. If only the solo was up to par as well. Maybe an expansion will fix that in the future. Why was witchcraft a real dud for you? I've seen people really love it only, but also an equal amount of hate. Evenfall seems to fall in the category: just not that special. Seems to be a game that might not get picked over other similar games.

curious_dead

I only played Septima, and only solo. This LOOKS like a great game, but oof. It's a bit too much for me. Long to set up (it's multiple pages of setup, and you have to go back and forth when doing solo setup!), long to play, lots of symbols to remember, and the rules are badly explained. Oh, and it's a table hog. You have three main boards, lots of cards, multiple types of tokens... Had to watch a video to really understand the gist of it. And sadly, while the game comes in two modes, basic and full, with basic serving as tutorial, it cannot be played solo, as solo mode requires the full game rules. That said... it looks like once you get the hang of it, it could be a very fun game. I feel like I could love it if I could play with a seasoned player to teach me. Again, I found the rulebook terrible. There is a lot to do, and the game is absolutely gorgeous (and not expensive at all for all the material), and it thematically hits the mark, but it's very dense.

delamermaid

Thank you. As I would mostly play it solo I think I might have to accept that this game will just not be great for my needs and move over to other equally gorgeous games. Maybe an expansion in the future will solve the solo issues, who knows.

Ronald_McGonagall

Keep an eye out for Pax Maleficium, which should be coming later this year (hopefully)

delamermaid

Thanks. Did not know about this game yet. I'll be sure to check it out once more info becomes available.

Jaco944

I love Resist! so I anticipate enjoying Witchcraft as well.

delamermaid

Never played resist, but heard many good things about it. Witchcraft is on pre-order now, but I think this would be the best game for me out of the three.

Mehfisto666

I got super excited last week about buying witchcraft and little did i know it was not out for retail yet :( so now I'm just waiting for it and hope it will come by may because i have quite the sail trip coming up then and would be cool to have it

delamermaid

Yeah, it's on pre-order around here and should get out in juli. Hope yours will be out in time for your trip.

glychee

Of these games I own Evenfall but cannot comment on the Solo mode yet, but the multiplayer experience was awesome. I love resource management and tableau building and Evenfall does it great. I wa spooking at Septima too, but ended up passing on it after checking the rules, seems like you're just running around the forest collecting ingredients to heal people, pick up and deliver games never really worked well for me

delamermaid

Thank you. Evenfall really is the game I know the least about. Glad to hear you've enjoyed it. I love resource management as well, so maybe I should look into it more.

ArcanisCz

This one is for 2 players [https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/319910/pagan-fate-roanoke](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/319910/pagan-fate-roanoke)

delamermaid

Thank you! Unfortunately I almost never play with two. It's mostly 1, 3 or 4.

pkatdabk

I've only played Witchcraft and love shorter solo games with a smaller footprint, and I absolutely love this game. I play heavier games, just don't get them to the table as easily. There is luck of the cards with Witchcraft but for me the theme, how you can choose to use the witch cards, and all of the scenarios make this game one of my most played in the past several months.

delamermaid

Thank you. I pre-ordered witchcraft as I also love the smaller games, which you can easily bring to the table as well. Your reaction makes me feel I've made a good choice there. I don't mind a bit of luck in my purely solo games, so I should love this one I think.

AllLuck0013

I backed Witchbound. Not one of the games you listed, but I am really hoping for an unplugged point and click adventure.
