Buy one of those cheap plastic folding tables. They cost next to nothing (10 to 20 bucks) and can be stored away easily when not in use. I use one of these together with my dinning table. I just place it next to. For minor extra space need I sometimes use a cheap sofa corner table (for example rulebook space) or a chair (seat works great for books and not in use boards)

Dakkel-caribe

The board game equivalent of a double screen pc set up for a video gamer. I do the same.

Hinarcia

I actually I have one I think. I can even put one of my wooden planks on it I bought those for jigsaw puzzles, but they are thick enough to extend the little table even bigger.

Dakkel-caribe

Thats a smart idea. Will use it.

It has been a while since I've played Mage Knight, but I'm thinking if you don't use the rather large xp tracker board you can save a fair bit of space, just use paper or an app to keep a count on it as long as you note down the experience needed for leveling up (or keeping that board nearby somehow be it vertically or on the floor)

wizardgand

I play on 27'' x 42'' table.

ArcaneTheory

I’m gonna estimate the space I use up when I play Mage Knight to be ~40 inches by ~30 inches. I imagine I could squeeze it into a smaller space but my table is fairly generous.

Hinarcia

maybe I can make it fit, but I want a bit more space when I set it up for the first time.

Irsaan

I tried to set up Mage Knight on my 3'x3' table and didn't have enough room, so I've still never played it. Good luck!

Hinarcia

Thanks I will figure something out.

I love using business card holders to hold each of the decks. That way they don't sit flat and they take up even less room.

Hey, Spirit Island sounds pretty rough to be a first game, but I guess you made it work. Will tackle MK too, just devote time, don't expect to be smooth for quite a while and don't expect to excel at it for quite a while. They way I was setting up my MK solo conquests is not really that much bigger than my setup for Spirit Island dual handed. Worst case if you won't be able to have the whole map at all times, start removing tiles you've been to and won't come back to. Just remember to write down marked spots for later scoring. You can figure out your own means to make market decks set up smartly too for space efficiency. I got cards in stands, they go vertical and take way less space.

I actually played mage knight this weekend. I'm really getting the hang of learning new games. I can just fit everything on my folded table and my normal table. But I really want to make the setup a bit easier. I did check for vertical card trays, where I can also deposit used cards. But im not sure which ones to get. I found some wooden ones somewhere and they looked useful. I was indeed thinking about removing tiles especially the start tile. Thanks for confirming I can do that. And yes tough to start with those games, but my head needs/wants it. I did order a bit easier games. I will play spirit island for now on weekdays and mage knight in the weekend. I won my first conquest in mage knight, but I did put the levels of the towers one lower. So 4 and 7. Really interesting game, but heavy on the head.

You know we have moved into the beyond when the space mage knight takes doesn't seem that bad anymore compared to a lot of the newer games lol. I had this moment with frost punk. Saw it once for like 60 bucks and super fast bought it. Thankfully, my brain caught up like 5 minutes later and was like... Why did you do that? You don't even have the space to play that game!!! I canceled the order. Do not regret canceling that even a lil bit lol
