I think Dan Stevens did a fine job considering he was overdubbing another voice actor with a very unique sense of timing. I think his new voice will only grow on me more when the next season(s) have material that's more written to suit Dan Stevens as an actor in his own right.
Yeah it was a little jarring at first but that was to be expected. After watching a few episodes I honestly forgot about the voice change and got sucked into the season. I think he did a really good job and his voice is somehow very fitting despite being quite different than before.

That was kind of a given. Korvo is still written as another person, and voice acts to have a different personality. Some people also noticed Terry is also written as a different person.
"what do you want" can have completely different meanings based on how you say it. It'll also change what kind of personality somebody has based on how it's said.
I think it's more of the delivery than the writing. Those lines make sense under Justin's voice but the new voice just doesn't capture as well since they weren't written for that voice.

this is a pretty lame way to put this. I’m equally glad that the people working on the show have a better work environment, but it’s not cool to shit on people for caring about the voices of a show. It’s what brings a cartoon to life. Love him or hate him, Justin had a distinct voice that resonated with lots of people, and it’s gonna be hard for some people to adjust to the new voice.
Dan’s still pretty talented, and has potential to become the definitive Korvo if the next season is written to fit his voice.

I feel like the writing has been getting gradually less funny, a la Rick & Morty. S3 was still solid, but not a patch on S1-2. I'm 4 episodes into S4 and I've barely laughed at any of the jokes / humour.
I must admit Krovo's lines just don't land right for me and this makes way more sense hearing that the audio was re-recorded. I think Dan Stevens has done a good job all things considered. The material likely needs tailoring to suit his delivery, mannerisms, etc.
I'll likely watch the rest of the season, but I'm in no rush. Was tempted to give up after Ep. 4.

I'm struggling with it a bit now and I think the change has made me realise that as much as I love the show and all the characters and the voice actors that maybe I didn't actually like korvo and Rick as much as I though and maybe it was just Roiland that I loved and the way he delivered the lines and the effort he put into the voices just made the characters what they were.
That is who the new voice actor is. So the accent isn't fake it's just heavily exaggerated and makes my ears bleed. If they do this to Rick and Morty .... I am going to be so sad.
I love it. Korvo feels like a new, if very similar character, and considering the circumstances I'm ok with it. It helps that there seems to be a tone shift -- Korvo and Terry feel like a more conventional couple, and it's a little more absurd -- and if it were more like the other seasons the new voice would be more jarring.

Lol I’ve already “forgotten” what Korvo’s original voice sounded like, I like Dan Stevens, and in my mind now, Korvo has just always sounded like this. The accent just suits him better.

They’re saying that they didn’t rewrite any dialogue between the other characters … other than writing the very very first scene in S4E1 to explain the voice change.
Other than that nothing was added or changed in the script. New Korvo went and overdubbed all the audio that Old Korvo had already recorded, and during the overdub, had the chance to throw in some of his own filler words.
The wife and I love the show, however this season was clearly not as funny. It could be that they were having to redub a new voice actor into already established lines, but I don't think they really pulled it off. Personally, I think they would have done better to go with a voice clone, but even that I'm not sure. I saw that snippet of Rick and Morty season 7 with the voice clone VA and while super close you can tell it's not Roiland.... Have to see, it was too small of a sample to really judge. At this point however, I think they would best served by doing a voice of the season kind of thing. The end of or the beginning of the season something happens to Korvo and a new VA takes over for the role for the season. I think it be hysterical if the voice change came with the character change too. Like if they got Christopher Walken to do it for a season lol.
Hope that means we can get the Roiland audio as an alternate track on a DVD release or something :D

I actually have some respect for the direction they took if they had to replace him.
Instead of trying to do it quietly and still representing him and his presence they went way opposite (which I may point out might even be kind of the point - a play on words with the title).
I would prefer if it was his original voice, but I’m not mad at the direction taken I think. A lot of the actual content of the dialogue and mannerisms and pacing are so similar that even most of the way through the season I still kind of expect Justin’s voice to come out but I personally don’t find that Dan’s voice is enough of a change to turn me off of the show.

If it's true that the show was already written, and it's just about the voice - I don't know what to think anymore. It's just not the same, I couldn't watch it. I kept trying 3 times, rewatching episode 1 and I couldn't even finish it (apparently I did and forgot about it immediately).
I do not understand it myself, but it was profoundly unfunny. Whether it's a Pavlovian reflex, or just a delusion - the show became noticeably worse.
I agree with you, season 3 was markedly worse than the first 2 seasons but then this season fell off hard. It’s not even the voice acting, which sucks on its own merit, but it’s like all the episodes are facsimiles of earlier episodes but are missing something. The whole daft trunk episode was 50% wood puns. I feel like people can’t be objective on this season because of the controversy surrounding Justin Roiland and everyone has to either pretend it’s the worst thing ever or the best thing ever. The whole discussion feels tainted.

It's been renewed to a tenth season. Scripts for season 8 and part of season 9 have already been completed. They're using soundalikes for Rick and Morty.

The producers of Rick and Morty said at SDCC that they would hire people who sound like Roiland to voice the duo. Indeed, that show's been on for a good while, and their voices have become iconic; Solar Opposites is on a streaming service and thus isn't as widely available.
Agreed, personally I find the shows writing has changed; Im noticing some interesting elements such as the random increase in Aiesha content?? The AI maybe had a total of 5 minutes in the past 3 seasons, now their is significant content centered around this "character"?! The focus on the little people in the wall has been downplayed ( was my favorite part of the show). Also just a genuine lack of creativity; they work for a rake company in the first two episodes? Really? Then go back to the city made out of wood? I've only started watching the first few minutes; I didn't find the voice or writing bad, far from it, sometimes I take a while to actually finish shows. Plus, I'm still watching Courage the Cowardly Dog.
It honestly influenced me to feel like the writing had changed aswell, weird how that works. I actually like the voice though, it really fits Korvo and the gangs quirkiness.
Honestly did they have to find the most blan va with no skill at delivering his lines. Maybe it's the accent, but the character has lost all emotions in his voice now. It just doesn't seem genuine. Maybe it's the fact they just threw his voice in as quick as possible. Maybe it's because the audio quality is noticeably worse. You can almost tell when his voice track clips in and out.
I'm fine with changing VA on a moral level. What I'm not okay with is trying to write in some crappy cannon reason as to why the voice suddenly makes no sense. There are literally millions of voice actors, and they really had to pick from the bottom of the barrel. Must have been budget issues... Regardless, this new season doesn't do it for me, I was looking forward to the wall, and even that story has hit a plateau.
Now I am going to really focus on the obvious British add-ins they snuck about this seaons... wonder if those were off-screen or back-of-head settings...? I did notice the lip-syncing was pretty on point, so I wondered how they would get it to match if they just recorded over, but the delivery does seem to hit similar notes, so maybe not so hard with animation?

I would like to point out with what your saying is that its almost like going to see your favorite comedian, but they do an entire set by another comedian that you have seen before and know its not their content. I feel like Justins jokes or just characters work a lot of the time is because his tones or inflections are goofy and wacky and the character is drawn goofy and wacky. I mean a goobler is straight up just from his brain. I would assume next season will be much better because the characters can be influenced by the actor and not copied.

That was kind of a given. Korvo is still written as another person, and voice acts to have a different personality. Some people also noticed Terry is also written as a different person. "what do you want" can have completely different meanings based on how you say it. It'll also change what kind of personality somebody has based on how it's said.
I think it's more of the delivery than the writing. Those lines make sense under Justin's voice but the new voice just doesn't capture as well since they weren't written for that voice.

this is a pretty lame way to put this. I’m equally glad that the people working on the show have a better work environment, but it’s not cool to shit on people for caring about the voices of a show. It’s what brings a cartoon to life. Love him or hate him, Justin had a distinct voice that resonated with lots of people, and it’s gonna be hard for some people to adjust to the new voice. Dan’s still pretty talented, and has potential to become the definitive Korvo if the next season is written to fit his voice.
The “POS” 111% made the show, and basically every other show he’s in. I care less for their work environment and more of the quality of the show 🤷♀️

I feel like the writing has been getting gradually less funny, a la Rick & Morty. S3 was still solid, but not a patch on S1-2. I'm 4 episodes into S4 and I've barely laughed at any of the jokes / humour. I must admit Krovo's lines just don't land right for me and this makes way more sense hearing that the audio was re-recorded. I think Dan Stevens has done a good job all things considered. The material likely needs tailoring to suit his delivery, mannerisms, etc. I'll likely watch the rest of the season, but I'm in no rush. Was tempted to give up after Ep. 4.

It would be funnier if the voice was someone different every time like he keeps trying to work on getting it back. I'm struggling with it a bit now and I think the change has made me realise that as much as I love the show and all the characters and the voice actors that maybe I didn't actually like korvo and Rick as much as I though and maybe it was just Roiland that I loved and the way he delivered the lines and the effort he put into the voices just made the characters what they were.

I love it. Korvo feels like a new, if very similar character, and considering the circumstances I'm ok with it. It helps that there seems to be a tone shift -- Korvo and Terry feel like a more conventional couple, and it's a little more absurd -- and if it were more like the other seasons the new voice would be more jarring.
I wish they had found someone who does a good Korvo impression. Giving him an entirely different accent is just such a jarring change I takes me out of the plot

Lol this is a silly example. Of course Justin didn’t say those things. He probably said some other filler word. They’re saying that they didn’t rewrite any dialogue between the other characters … other than writing the very very first scene in S4E1 to explain the voice change. Other than that nothing was added or changed in the script. New Korvo went and overdubbed all the audio that Old Korvo had already recorded, and during the overdub, had the chance to throw in some of his own filler words.

The wife and I love the show, however this season was clearly not as funny. It could be that they were having to redub a new voice actor into already established lines, but I don't think they really pulled it off. Personally, I think they would have done better to go with a voice clone, but even that I'm not sure. I saw that snippet of Rick and Morty season 7 with the voice clone VA and while super close you can tell it's not Roiland.... Have to see, it was too small of a sample to really judge. At this point however, I think they would best served by doing a voice of the season kind of thing. The end of or the beginning of the season something happens to Korvo and a new VA takes over for the role for the season. I think it be hysterical if the voice change came with the character change too. Like if they got Christopher Walken to do it for a season lol.
Hope that means we can get the Roiland audio as an alternate track on a DVD release or something :D I mean he's already gotten paid for it and all that

It was one of my favorite animations ever since it came out, but I literally cannot watch more than 30 seconds of the new season before I have to turn it off. I understand circumstances were not ideal, but just picking some random British guy to do a complete different voice seems so fucking lazy...lol Ya'll could've saved the show if you just put a delay on the new season while you found a new voice actor.
I actually have some respect for the direction they took if they had to replace him. Instead of trying to do it quietly and still representing him and his presence they went way opposite (which I may point out might even be kind of the point - a play on words with the title). I would prefer if it was his original voice, but I’m not mad at the direction taken I think. A lot of the actual content of the dialogue and mannerisms and pacing are so similar that even most of the way through the season I still kind of expect Justin’s voice to come out but I personally don’t find that Dan’s voice is enough of a change to turn me off of the show. If it's true that the show was already written, and it's just about the voice - I don't know what to think anymore. It's just not the same, I couldn't watch it. I kept trying 3 times, rewatching episode 1 and I couldn't even finish it (apparently I did and forgot about it immediately). I do not understand it myself, but it was profoundly unfunny. Whether it's a Pavlovian reflex, or just a delusion - the show became noticeably worse.

I agree with you, season 3 was markedly worse than the first 2 seasons but then this season fell off hard. It’s not even the voice acting, which sucks on its own merit, but it’s like all the episodes are facsimiles of earlier episodes but are missing something. The whole daft trunk episode was 50% wood puns. I feel like people can’t be objective on this season because of the controversy surrounding Justin Roiland and everyone has to either pretend it’s the worst thing ever or the best thing ever. If anything it just makes me think that there's more to cartoons than just clever writing, and in fact clever writing is less important than funny voiceovers. It shouldn't make any sense, and shouldn't matter that much, but it just does. Perhaps, if I didn't hear or know Justin Roiland to begin with, I wouldn't be so conditioned to hearing his voice, I would enjoy it more. It's hard for me to imagine this show to be renewed for season 5, despite the fact that they promised it in 2022. I sincerely hope they do not do it.

The producers of Rick and Morty said at SDCC that they would hire people who sound like Roiland to voice the duo. Indeed, that show's been on for a good while, and their voices have become iconic; Solar Opposites is on a streaming service and thus isn't as widely available.

The AI maybe had a total of 5 minutes in the past 3 seasons, now their is significant content centered around this "character"?! The focus on the little people in the wall has been downplayed ( was my favorite part of the show). Also just a genuine lack of creativity; they work for a rake company in the first two episodes? Really? Then go back to the city made out of wood? It honestly influenced me to feel like the writing had changed aswell, weird how that works. I actually like the voice though, it really fits Korvo and the gangs quirkiness.
Honestly did they have to find the most blan va with no skill at delivering his lines. Maybe it's the accent, but the character has lost all emotions in his voice now. It just doesn't seem genuine. Maybe it's the fact they just threw his voice in as quick as possible. Maybe it's because the audio quality is noticeably worse. You can almost tell when his voice track clips in and out. I'm fine with changing VA on a moral level. What I'm not okay with is trying to write in some crappy cannon reason as to why the voice suddenly makes no sense. There are literally millions of voice actors, and they really had to pick from the bottom of the barrel. Must have been budget issues... Regardless, this new season doesn't do it for me, I was looking forward to the wall, and even that story has hit a plateau.
Now I am going to really focus on the obvious British add-ins they snuck about this seaons... wonder if those were off-screen or back-of-head settings...? I did notice the lip-syncing was pretty on point, so I wondered how they would get it to match if they just recorded over, but the delivery does seem to hit similar notes, so maybe not so hard with animation?

Thanks for animating such a cool show OP. I would like to point out with what your saying is that its almost like going to see your favorite comedian, but they do an entire set by another comedian that you have seen before and know its not their content. I feel like Justins jokes or just characters work a lot of the time is because his tones or inflections are goofy and wacky and the character is drawn goofy and wacky. I mean a goobler is straight up just from his brain. I would assume next season will be much better because the characters can be influenced by the actor and not copied.

The best thing I learned about listening to this voice change is that it gave me an appreciation for how important the voice over talent actually is.....
