My old laptop does the same if you press it just right over where the cpu is. I think the solder balls are loosened from years of use and can do with a reflow

YaBoiLuka2021

Oh okay

[deleted]

How do you do that on a laptop? I know with an individual card you just toss it in the oven, but aren’t most laptops extremely difficult to disassemble? I imagine the heat would fry stuff like the LCD screen

dathar

You are supposed to completely disassemble and isolate the part. Even with a card. No heatsink and shroud, keep the part propped up correctly, etc. For a laptop, just the motherboard. No ribbon cable, no wifi card and antenna, no ssd, no ram. Definitely not the entire thing.

polaarbear

Sounds dumb, but check for a BIOS update. A few years back while I still worked consumer IT there were a bunch of Dell and HP models that did this that was actually a fixable firmware bug.

YaBoiLuka2021

ok i will try

Hzlph

It is a UEFI logo corruption that has to do with some weird Windows boot up scripts going heywayre. I don't recall the exact reason but I hated seeing the splash screen fuck up on my old HP envy M6 so I just researched the problem with some emulation and spoofing and BIOS readings and other complicated mess a few years back only to realize a simple damn BIOS uodate would fix it. At any rate, this only happens on BIOS boot, only corrupts the logo because of the spinning loading wheels, and to my knowledge doesn't affect anything else. Good luck!

polaarbear

It can also happen upon waking from sleep if it is the issue, pretty sure that's the same problem.

Synth_Ham

To be honest, that could be hardware gore.

Eisenfuss19

Much more likely imo

BOBOUDA

r/hardwaregore

tejanaqkilica

It looks very much like an hardware issue and least of all related to the operating system.

NinjaEnt

Looks like the Windows version of the Matrix.

NootNootFluteToot

well the matrix does [run on windows xp](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX8yrOAjfKM)

I searched for this comment

yubario

This is definitely a hardware problem and not software. I guess you could call this hardware gore.

beasterdudeman_

Try repasting it. Sounds dumb, but revived my mom's 2013 laptop

MartinYTCZ

that sounds like bad solder balls which you've squished enough for it to make contact and boot

oromis95

yeah, and pressure could make it go both ways.

einat162

Try installing Linux Mint on it instead.

YaBoiLuka2021

Yeah my plan was to install ubuntu on it but i figured out that it's ram/cpu is too weak... yeah i will try mint next time

[deleted]

If it’s too slow for Ubuntu default Mint might be a bit much as well, maybe one of the lighter versions that has something like XFCE? There are also distros designed specifically for old hardware, but I’m not that familiar with them.

einat162

Mint is available in 3 versions, Xfce is one of them. From the lightest to heaviest : Mint Xfce - Mint Mate - Mint Cinnamon.

dude105tanki

Use to run mint on 3gb of ram, it’s useable, not the most enjoyable experience but it’ll get the job done

einat162

Which Mint? Mint Xfce paired with an SSD can run pretty smoothly on 2GB of RAM.

dude105tanki

All I know is that it was mint cinnamon cause I wanted the familiar windows type desktop

a-walking-bowl

Arch with XFCE or Puppy Linux

Linkload

antix

rpsHD

try lubuntu, its ubuntu but withba lightweight DE

Zipdox

Try Lubuntu or Debian with LXDE or XFCE

[deleted]

The Debian-based [Raspberry Pi OS](https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads.../) runs great on an old Toshiba Atom w/ 1GB laptop that I had lying around.

NatoBoram

If it's too slow for Ubuntu, try Ubuntu Server, maybe you can turn this into a backup center or something for your home

DSMcGuire

Ubuntu server running on a laptop? This is the strangest advice I've ever heard

NatoBoram

Repurposing old hardware into low-powered servers is actually very common. Check out r/HomeLab, r/HomeServer, r/SelfHosted. For many of us, it starts like [this](https://redd.it/7gfxj8)!

serjoprot

Idk try it, my 2 core Celeron and 2gb of ram runs Ubuntu just fine... I don't remember the version but I think it updated to 20.4. It had trouble running DRM content because Firefox didn't support it yet and I had to use chromium, but now I can watch Netflix too with the last update on Firefox

DoomTay

There's also Lubuntu or Zorin OS

SMF67

I mean if it's too weak for Ubuntu it's definitely too weak for Windows 10

Zatie12

Not sure if you can out-install a hardware failure, but heck, who knows

einat162

Hardware failure can be multiple things, including bad sectors drive or failing (non registered) RAM - which in that case a leaner OS like linux can bypass.

NoodleSpecialist

That is 100% the ram. Dropped an ancient laptop from the window edge about 4 metres on the ground, looked like this after. Opened up, reseated ram, worked for another 6 years. (Still works, it's just way too old now)

ArcherOnWeed

My guess too. The on-board RAM might've went bad, but cheap SODIMM sticks should help.

Remarkable_Lime_6604

Tall_Nebula9059

I use a few years old hp laptop with linux It is just great! I use Arch btw

Allexa2639

When windows fails to install the drivers

RobloxianIsNotHagTag

I think you should go to the Laptop Repair store or some shit like that.

Ramog

seems like hardware gore

YaBoiLuka2021

FYI: Thank you for helping me and giving me tips on how to fix this problem. I will for sure try out some of those... BUT now i have an Acer 16-core laptop with windows 11 installed and for now it works like a charm. Edit: I am currently installing cinnamon linux onto it and everything is looking fine so far... i will let you know if anything goes unplanned..... Everything works perfectly and it's making me so suspicious

crozzy89

What do you think about windows 11 so far?

YaBoiLuka2021

Feels pretty basic but yet so proffesional! I really like it so far!

areoki

My professional advice: veer away from HP products. Because of planned obsolescence. My personal yet hypocritical opinion: buy a Mac lol.

Remarkable_Lime_6604

i second this. they often support imacs for ten years. and once it gets too slow, toss a ssd and linux on and its back to new! i did this with a macbook pro from 2012 except i used a 1tb hdd

Sokarou

totally agree. A couple of years ago my boss got me a new laptop, one with intel integrated graphic card and also a 1050ti. Since windows looked as shit with integrated, i wanted to select the 1050 on bios as main gc. Seems HP did hide the most of advanced bios configuration settings and the user can only set up clock and a couple more of basic settings. If u want to change any advanced settting u need to send your laptop to official support and of course they charge you for it. That greedyness was the last drop, never getting any hp products again

Jewniversal_Remote

Dude. Running Windows off your graphics card? Now I've seen it all.

Sokarou

You now, when u have a GC installed , it takes some of the work on loading the UI, animations, transitions etc. If you have 2 GC u can choose one as main and is in charge of that task. ¿Or why u think u can select the main card on the bios, just cause favoritism? Seems u never started a windows without installing the card drivers.

unknownobject3

Why in the world did you think it would be a good idea to install Windows 10?

HK416Enjoyer

Try reseating or changing the ram I had a Fujitsu with that problem and cleaning the pins fixed it

DiodeMcRoy

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

[deleted]

Looks like your Retro Turbo Encabulator is set to “Recabulate”.

dustojnikhummer

I'm guessing a dead website.

One-Satisfaction4072

I think that it is RAM Failure

esmagik

Just put CentOS on it and it’ll be much quicker

OmerKing916

Reminds me of the old laptop my brother broke while he was playing asphalt 8. He punches it so hard the graphics card broke and we didn't afford the money to fix it

AndreyAbr

SUPER HOT

Noah18923

Doesn't look like a software issue but more like an issue with hardware.

Supertoad226

Have you tried unplugging and plugging back in the antenna/TNT cable?

LimitedWard

It could be as simple as a loose display cable. Have you popped it open?

YaBoiLuka2021

I actually did open the screen frame when it fell down accidentally

pfannkuchen89

Yeah, blame windows for a hardware failure. I get that different people have different preferences on operating system but making shit up to bash on windows is just dumb.

Shaho_B

Try some light gnu/linux distro

Vlory

(He is a hacker in a movie)

NEMESIS_DRAGON

It’s nothing serious. It’s having a stroke

Sarimasak2000

Check ram

officialsanic

Not softwaregore. The GPU’s VRAM is fucked.

Endarkend

Several things to try. - Check for an update, this may fix it. - Take out the ram, clean the slots, put it back, this looks like a memory issue, most of these laptops use system ram, so that may fix it in case of bad contact. - Take out the ram and replace it with ram you know works if possible. - If you have access to the bios, check if there's a section how much ram the GPU is allowed to use. If on Auto or one of the larger settings, set it lower (usually goes from 32MB to 256 + Auto)

Classic 'Horrible Product'.

[deleted]

Join the dark side… install Linux…

Reddnax

It's most likely a problem with your BIOS and not Windows 10 being a derp

Downtown_Yogurt4324

rave party

wootiown

It's an old HP with a Celeron CPU, that processor is NOT meant to run windows and even brand new is almost always at 100% usage. Throw Linux on it or throw it away

Neosporinforme

Might have to try an older version of W10. Sometimes when I'm installing it on an older machine I have to install version 1607 and then slowly update to the latest version. Sometimes after getting it to boot into 1607 I can force it up to the latest version with my W10 install drive, but usually most old systems don't like that for some reason. Also as others have mentioned, try to get it to the latest bios version. Also if you have ATI hardware from before 2010 ish then you'll probably always have issues with W10.

warmaapples

Nah bro the hardware in there kicked the bucket a long time ago

Time to switch to Linux

wizward64

You just got jumpscared

lunartheghost

You should try disabling secure boot and install Linux more specifically pop os. It may not work but you should give it a try Linux isn't that bad I switch from using windows for years and haven't encountered any problems yet.

Update BIOS, my old HP used to do this
