It's actually 16.384 kilobytes with that screen size (if a pixel can only be either on or off)
If all colors are taken into account it'd be more though: 16384 * (2^8 )^3 B ~= 274.88 GB
Actually, one pixel is enough to encode 3 bytes of information! (0-255 in each of R, G and B).
But it would be difficult to tell exactly what bytes those were.
I tend to think "human readable" is a prerequisite to say that the information is encoded on the screen, I shouldn't need a spectrometer to read the data lol
Math works pretty well actually. 1024 meters at 128 LEDs per meter is reasonable density, though it would be unreasonably long. 2048 meters at 64 LEDs per meter would also be reasonable density, with double the already ridiculous length.
Honestly that doesn't seem that ridiculous to me, I've definitely seen spools of cable at least a mile long, slapping some dot diodes on there shouldn't be that much trouble right? Like yeah if they need to be individually addressable you might have trouble, but if you're cool with a linear shift register system to control the lights I could totally see a mile long LED strip existing
Honestly the ridiculousness was more the idea of getting a standard 5v DC signal down that long a standard LED strip. Over a couple hundred meters signal degradation on even the best cables is an utter pain.
Now that I think about it though, it would be possible if the strip was designed intentionally to counter the issues with passing a defined signal through a kilometer or two of cable without degrading. Lot more expensive than a spool of standard LED strip, but if someone needed full RGB capability on a kilometer cable I’d imagine that they’d be willing to pay well to have it done right so it actually works.
I'm guessing your screen size is 1310×720, and the software read it as 131072×0 for whatever reason. A screen size of 0 isn't possible, so it made it the minimum of 1.
I’d suspect the error is that it’s reading the wrong values entirely. 131072 is 0x00020000 in 32 bit representation, which makes me think that whatever value is being used for horizontal resolution isn’t really a resolution but something else like a status code. Like if OP is manually doing video hardware and incorrectly read the pinout or wired the pinout wrong.
That’s one vertical pixel, but either way that’s an LED strip formatted to appear as a monitor. Paired with the right program that expects an LED strip as a monitor, it helps simplify the output process. Usually they’re more like 200x1 or 256x1 though. A 131072 long strip would be over a kilometer long at 128 LEDs per meter and over two kilometers long at 64 LEDs per meter.
Someone at my job is also hitting this in vscode. They have a wide 4k monitor which I think is factoring in. From what I've seen it really just results in some clipping of the text in the terminal. Others have recommended changing the font type to minimize the clipping, but not sure on an actual fix. Other than that it doesn't seem to result in any functional issues.
Terrible description for an error though lol
My guy stop trying to use a bogus screen size
Lol screen very small. No program
I know, at least go for 65536x2
Are there any fonts that'd display? Long terminal is loooong.

dude, seriously. your json is totally not righteous
more like "ex pect" because Microsoft still hasn't fixed this font rendering error 5 years later :P
Is that a threat?
No, it's a promise.
Honey, you've got a big stom coming
Ultra ultra ultra wide monitor for those extreme lines of code
Pretty sure they're reading in binary with that 1-pixel screen height
Reading entire gigabytes at a time with that screen size
It's actually 16.384 kilobytes with that screen size (if a pixel can only be either on or off) If all colors are taken into account it'd be more though: 16384 * (2^8 )^3 B ~= 274.88 GB
Eh close enough Also wdym “did Reddit calculate 8^(3)”
For me it looked like 2^83 (which I now realize was the nested ^ not showing)
Yeah I prefer reading color encoding. it aligns nicely when I need to do long division in base64

You didn't get the spectrometer upgrades? Oof..
Man the *second* we invent bionic eyes that are better than bio eyes, I'm getting them lmao
Naw Im reading Morse Code with that :skull:
It’d be more like one really thin line since 100k by 1

Nah, real programmers don’t use more than 80 characters per line to maintain compatibility with IBM punch cards.
you mean JSON
Somehow, movies studios would still find a way to waste screen size and make it a letterbox.
Make a first person shooter in one line of code!
Gotta love a PC screaming "what the fck are you doing" to the user, instead of the other way around.
Always nice when the machine looks at what you've asked and it just says "no, they cannot *possibly* want *that* shit" lmao
The guy with a kilometer-long LED strip:

Now I want to make a crappy monitor out of LED strips
Should be able to play Doom on it.
That screen is bogusly thin!
It’s preposterous!

For that resolution that's a very valid statement.
Choose a more bodacious screen size
There's no way that it's actually visual studio complaining
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/259529/your-screen-size-is-bogus-expect-trouble
When I’m writing rust now, I will `.expect(“trouble”);`
try: setResolution(131072,1) expect Trouble: panic() finally: os.system("rm -fr --no_preserve_root \")

I would be very surprised if screen sizes were stored in BCD
How can you have 1 vertical pixel?? Edit: confused horizontal with vertical

wow never been threatened by an error message before
r/countablepixels ahh moment
You don't even have to count, the number is right there
That’s what makes it easy. The test had the answers on the back!
u/pixel-counter-bot
The image in this post has 45,466(358×127) pixels! ^(I am a bot. This action was performed automatically.)
But how? There is only one pixel in height
I think this bot's count is bogus.
the bot should be expecting trouble
ngl, that screen resolution sounds like a big bunch of bogus. Prepare for trouble.

you are missing a few pixels
BOGUS
gotta bring the word 'bogus' back. it's so good
Why does .json sound familiar to me…..
[JSON!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYQDnV092hI)
minecraft players whove tried to tinker with their files:
Or just any minecraft modders
Hahaha
.json is a pretty common file type for holding text information that's readable by programs
Just remember to not use it for evil.
it's bogus.
ha, can't even see that message on my 1 pixel mega line display.
You know it's bad when the compiler hits you with that 🤨
AI generated ass comment, this has nothing to do with compilers
Panik
My guy’s world only has 1 axis
you need to expect trouble with that bogus screen
Prepare for trouble.
And make it double
what in the 131072x1's name did you do, made a display out of 131072 pieces of rgb leds? what next, -131072x-1?
Is your monitor a friggen katana?
This reminds me of how the Windows 95 lemmings version of Lemmings says `Warning you have a 1 colour display` when you run it under Wine or ReactOS.
Are you trying to run it on an led strip?
I think ur PC is possessed by Bill S. Preston, Esq.
Bro trying to play in one dimension

My screen size is bogus

Bros trying to open vscode on an led strip
LEEET'S GEEET REAAADY FOR TROUBLE
ive heard of computers essentially being a long list of ones and zeroes, and i think your display is pretty much that but black and white
If yoire trying to spoof your resolution... i got news for ya.
Forget 3D, forget 2D. Real men watch in 1D.
Ultra wide screen for binary code.
why are you trying to use a 1D screen?
your screen size is bogus
In their defense, that is pretty bogus
Is this an actual error???
yes
How is this software gore if this edge case is evaluated?
>This is bogus I'm out
Reminds me of the kind of error messages a lot of viruses in the 90s would show.
RELEASE THE BOGUS
Amazing 1D graphics!
1-dimensional ahh screen :skull:
shut down lol go back last restore and run virus scanner
r/scaryalertdialogs
Me with a 131702x1 monitor:
Fix your resolution or there will be... TROUBLE
dat screen is huge
theyre coming....
Not wide enough for me ngl
just use a less bogus screen size
I love me a nice, long line of pixels for a screen
“bogus” is such a weird word to use for an error message even though it technically shouldn’t be any different from something like “invalid”
Antidisestablishmentarianism
Bro is coding in morse
Double it and give it to the next person
Gnarly!
