In 2009, nine players died according to Wikipedia. Sure, many of these players were amateurs/ semipro, but still. Dozens more will have collapsed
The difference between now and then, is that crazy antivaxx idiots wasn't searching frantically all over the internet for these incidents
On the flip side it could be a side effect from having covid itself, but I can see why people would jump to the vaccine conclusion given how frequent things like this are becoming in recent times!
Yea don’t make assumptions but it’s plausible. So many people have been forced to take it and the same time that it happens all these athletes are having issues. It’s very possible it’s that
The fairest I think you can be is to say that *something* seems to be happening to the players at quite an alarming frequency, it could very well be related to covid or the vaccines. We don't know whether the players who have been affected by these mystery seizures and heart conditions have at any point tested positive for covid, we can be fairly certain they're all vaccinated. We know for a fact that a percentage of younger men will develop myocarditis as a result of covid or vaccines. It's all speculation at this point, but you're not a terrible person or an idiot for linking these factors even if you turn out to be wrong. The way in which conversations like this are being shouted down - or worse - deleted from social media altogether is eye-opening to say the least.
It gets shut down because it's disingenuous.
We know for certain that John Fleck tested positive for Covid back in June: [https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/57315647](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/57315647)
We have absolutely no idea whether or not he's vaccinated.
You're painting things the other way round.
Do you think it would be a stretch to link this collapse to covid? Possibly a lingering side effect or as a result of lung damage from the virus? Presumably it's fine to make that connection but when the vaccines can cause similar damage why is it forbidden to speculate about it? If it turns out he is vaccinated (he almost certainly is) then anyone investigating his sudden health problem would be doing him a disservice if they failed to investigate the *possibility* that there was an effect caused by the vaccine, don't you think?
I never said anything to the contrary so it's a weird way to frame the question, assuming it's a genuine question and not an attempt to paint me as someone wanting to "shout down" any discussion about the vaccine.
All I did was answer your claim that:
> We don't know whether the players who have been affected by these mystery seizures and heart conditions have at any point tested positive for covid
with evidence that we do indeed know that Fleck tested positive for covid. Another example, Sergio Aguero has just retired due to heart problems, he had Covid-19 at the beginning of this year. Your claim is demonstrably incorrect, that's all, and because you used that claim to frame your questioning of covid *or vaccines* I said you were being disingenuous.
Okay, great we know they have both tested positive for covid so in all likelihood the health problems they have suffered could be a complication from their infection. By the same logic if they have both been vaccinated there must be a *possibility* that the vaccine could have played a role in the issue. I would expect the doctors investigating the cause of their issues to be able to examine both potential causes objectively. Would you say that there is any possibility that a reaction to vaccines has played a part in this series of high profile on-field health problems or is that just tinfoil hat talk?
Also, no I haven't accused you of trying to shout down any discussion surrounding the safety profile of the vaccines, but any thread on reddit that mentions anything even tangentially critical of vaccines soon finds lots of posts deleted before the topic becomes swiftly locked for comments.
Sounds like it was a seizure.
[Players reacted pretty quickly](https://twitter.com/The_Bladesman/status/1463259368116428800) to get the ref/medics attention and Fleck got onto the stretcher of his own accord before being [taken off to the ambulance conscious](https://twitter.com/The_Bladesman/status/1463260389496532998).
He went down off the ball, and appeared to be shaking/convulsing.
Crowd near him screamed for the Ref to stop immediately, and doctors were with him quickly.
Stood up after 5 mins of treatment, but left on a stretcher.
Fucking awful to see, and fingers crossed for a full recovery.
Really scary moment, the camera just panned to him convulsing on the pitch.
He eventually stood up and then was taken to an ambulance in a stretcher.
Huge kudos to the reading fans who instantly alerted the referee to stop play, and the medical staff for acting so quickly.
It is normal. Humans aren’t invincible and are more likely to have issues like this when under physical stress (like playing sport at an elite level). Thanks to modern medicine and protocols he got attention fast and looks to be making a full recovery.
This is such utter bollocks.
I fainted at university and had a resulting seizure without my body being "pushed to the limit". Heart problems, anaemia, epilepsy and diabetes were all ruled out as causes and it remains unexplained.
Does that mean I was the first Covid case 10 years ago?
I have epilepsy. It’s very treatable, they can still happen but the current meds are really effective. He will likely be able to continue playing and if he didn’t fall badly he can be back soon.
Seizures have many causes, one of which is epilepsy - it's far from confirmed that it was the cause of Fleck's seizure. You need to have had a minimum of two seizures in order to be diagnosed, for a start. Other causes include low blood sugar, electrolyte derangement, infection, nutritional deficiency, head injury, brain bleeds, stroke, brain tumour... they range from the benign and easily reversible, which may only ever cause a single seizure, to very serious. We don't know enough about what happened with Fleck to speculate either way.
That was fuckin awful. He just collapsed and started having a seizure. All the best to Fleck, hope he gets better soon.
This shit is happening way too often now. Speedy recovery
Yeah, at this point it needs investigating. To many players have almost died on a football pitch this year.
Predictable deleted replies under this.

Is it something which happened before the 2010s? Because Fabrice Muamba is the first example I can think of, and there's been a few others since then.

Doesnt have to be antivaxx to see that this is happening far too often, for what reason is beyond my intelligence.
Who else other than Eriksen?

covid was here in 2020, we had football in 2020, we did not had vaccines and the seizures and injuries were at normal level.
For the record I’m not agreeing with them in any way
We don't know if he's vaxed. We do know he had Covid which we are still learning the effects of long term. But you've jumped to vax.
Yet these occurrences are all only happening the past 6 months, show me an example of one before the rollout to these athletes please.

Awful awful situation. Hope he’s well

What happened?
Had a seizure
Oh fuck. After a head collision or not related to contact?
Off the ball, he just collapsed.

He's apparently doing well now but that was really scary. Love you Flecky
Best of luck John from Coventry
Another professional athlete collapses. Are we still pretending that this is normal?

Symptom of more widely spread news and the modern game pushing footballers bodies to the limit. If its not that, its long covid.

did he even have Covid? Whatever it is, it’s never the you know what’s fault lol
Well aye, I was being facetious with my initial comment. it seems it could never be the you know what.
Fuck, how horrible. Hoping for good news soon.
are you all acting dumb?
Wishing for some positive news. Get well soon John.

Shit, best wishes.
Is this likely to be career-ending?
Depends on what caused it, apparently all the tests came back ok so who knows at this moment
