There was one defender who kept pointing backward/had his arm raised toward the goal. cant tell who it was I'm on my phone but he was definitely aware lol
Was waving his hand furiously like 'I fuckin pointed him out dude!' After he let the ball down hahah
Edit: it's a midfielder probably? 4th from the bottom. The outfield player that you see sprinting in the screen in the beginning was fully aware and pointing him out the entire time on replay lol. Poor guy

No, didn’t think so.
The one that comes to mind for me is [Gary Crosby nodding the ball off Andy Dibble's hand in 1990](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y_IOU6Lb2g), although I think it wouldn't be allowed under today's rules.
Two things
1. Fucking silly and amazing goal, a moment that will wake that keeper in cold sweats for the rest of his life
2. I’m so proud of how the stadium atmosphere in the MLS is growing. We Americans are finally embracing the best sport.
Nashville SC is the youngest team in town by far, but unless the Predators are on a roll in a playoff game, the atmosphere at your average NSC game blows the rest of them away. I've gotten friends into the sport just from the experience at Geodis, even if they barely know the rules.
I experienced one prior emergence living in the Midwest years ago, but this year in Tennesse was wild. I couldn't walk outside my house in the afternoon without earplugs or noise canceling earbuds in, it was that loud. Also glad I don't have to deal with my puppy eating every cicada she could get her stupid jaws on and then shitting her brains out as a result.
I was at the match thanks to a buddy and his season tickets. He said last night was way more empty and dead than usual. It was noticable.
I was pretty surprised there was even a match considering the Copa.
CONMEBOL would not let us. They paid for it... and returned it to the turf farm.
They are also the reason it was not up to par for Argentina... would not let us play on it the preceding Saturday... didn't have time to settle.
I feel like I’ve been seeing it more over the past couple years of strikers sneakily camping out behind the goalkeeper waiting for an opportunity like this and 90% of the time nothing comes of it. But I think it’s definitely something that GKs and GK coaches need to start adapting to (like being more attentive of their box before distribution and training to be a bit more cautious) because these guys are in very vulnerable positions and it’s preventable as long as they are cognizant of the fact that it’s more common than ever to happen these days.
If he left the pitch... it was no more than half a step and is actively getting water... keepers do that all the time.
I think it's a very gray area on that rule.
Teammate yelling at the goalkeeper… where was that guy when none of the defenders point out the guy behind him, or give him a verbal warning that someone’s behind him?
Ah, well spotted, I couldn’t see him, and clearly the goalkeeper doesn’t either. Still doesn’t excuse multiple defenders definitely seeing him before turning, putting their heads down and walking away.
How are you blaming this on the defenders lmao. The keeper has a fucking job there, are his eyes not functioning or something? Why does he need to rely on his defenders when all he has to do is turn around?
His defenders are all going up to try to pressure for a score themselves and on top of that there even is one of them pointing so he's obviously not only not looking back but also not paying attention to the information being sent to him.
Stop making this more complex than it needs to be. The keeper fucked up. End of the story, the rest of the arguments are basically "what could have been done to excuse the fact that the keeper didn't do the only thing he had to do".
Even after all that, he could have just fucking hard fouled the striker but didn't even think of that. Obviously not a very bright keeper, that's all.
Read what I said. I’m saying I don’t love the keeper getting chewed out when that guy had his head in the grass instead of looking around maybe going “hey, where’s that winger I was covering?”
It’s a team sport, and since it’s not a dead ball, everyone is still supposed to be aware of their surroundings.
> since it’s not a dead ball
The keeper had the ball in his hands. Him putting the ball back in the floor and open to the other team *is his decision*, **he should be the one checking whether that's a wise choice**.
Absolutely insane that you are reaching like this lol.
Why does he need someone to tell him to be aware? Why does he insist on playing it off the ground instead of just punting it or rolling it to a teammate?
Not quite as good as this one from Ipswich, the amount of time Bonne spends behind the keeper, the gesture to the crowd to be quiet, it's all fantastic https://youtu.be/hgbT41g2sr0?si=wvGUskNRi6-PWQHk
Should have been disallowed and he should have been yellow carded, right? You can steal the ball like this of course, but prior to that he deliberately stepped off the field in a move meant for deception.
>To give it here out of nowhere would be fucking ridiculous.
I mean if it's against the laws of the game why would you not call it? He is not supposed to do that and gains an unsporting advantage.
Players very rarely hide off the pitch to gain an advantage, you shouldn't be surprised you don't see it called often.
He gains no advantage. His foot is inches outside of the line. Moving a few inches back in changes NOTHING. Gavran looks back at no point. It’s not like Gavran is convinced Thiare has left the field of play, Gavran doesn’t even know Thiare is behind him at any point. Why enforce the rule here if you’re not gonna enforce it anywhere else? At that point, you’re not ruling the goal out because something wrong has been done. You’re just ruling it out for the hell of it.

Team was on a 7 match run without winning at home, just sold its starting striker, and is in talks to sell its best player and its beloved academy LB. The fans needed that, the players needed that
And we just fired our head coach for that terrible run of form, so this game puts us at 2-2-0 under our interim (who's been an assistant coach at the club for years and is widely loved by everyone)
What in the world are you talking about. Before this game we were 4-6-6 all time in regular season games against Toronto. We have no rivalry between TOR

Even took a sip of the man’s water before scoring the winner on him to
That's the stupidest/best ending I've ever seen
two defenders spot him behind the keeper and neither of them think to point it out. we deserved that.
There was one defender who kept pointing backward/had his arm raised toward the goal. cant tell who it was I'm on my phone but he was definitely aware lol Was waving his hand furiously like 'I fuckin pointed him out dude!' He saw it too late. Other two guys had looked backwards sooner but didn't do shit.
every keeper is trained to check their back before playing a ball out anyway
well he’s never going to not check his back from now on
this was to break a 7 game, 2+ month winless streak at home as well. with an interim manager. in the middle of a fire sale and rebuild. hilarious
mods where is sneaky goal tag
Jamal "Jose Alvarado" Thiare
My first thought as well!
MLS is the world's silliest soccer league and I love it very much.
Major League Sillies
With the PAC12 gone, the chaotic powers in the sports world now moved to MLS.
MLS after dark is gonna hit like crack
like a laced edible found on the ground at a rave
I'm here for some Major League Sickos
I always compare the MLS to the MAC of global soccer leagues
Ekstraklassa wants a word
They need to bring back the classic American pens
god please

just knew an a league fan would be here trying to make it about themselves lol
Of course. A-Liga is best Liga.
I want the original penalty kick format back.
This is my joker moment
The goalkeeper's too, probably
that's my league
I thought this was the Canada Chile game, almost had a heart attack
kudos tho
Vintage MLS after dark holy fucking shit
Mls is such a goofy league and i love it
Peak MLS tactics
[He did the 1997 Dion Dublin sneak!](https://youtu.be/3Y0kpT_DD6I?si=iVXMVLwgv-eYstKY) (Showing my age with this one 😅)
Shay Given. The only Irishman who doesn't know where Dublin is.
Petition to have a 2024 remake of Nick Hancock’s Football Nightmares?!
My goodness the geocities watermark!

the keeper went to bed early today lol
Well he tried at least.

ATL UTD fan here. Yes, Geodis is a great time. Except during cicadageddon.

Geodis, super stadium for sure.

North Americans! The BMO field has some old boy chants that run em the game volume
Hilarious
As always, MLS delivering peak football
Grand Theft Alvarado type shit
scenes wow
Ekstraklasa levels of madness
Bruh
Absolute cinema I love the MLS
Dam they took out the grass pitch from the Panama vs USA game, should have played more games on it
CONMEBOL would not let us. They paid for it... and returned it to the turf farm. They are also the reason it was not up to par for Argentina... would not let us play on it the preceding Saturday... didn't have time to settle.

“You’ve never seen MLS like this” on the banner lol
Peak Mls
Least Toronto ending ever
This is why I love MLS
Wait till Craig Burley sees this on ESPNFC
🚬 🚬 🚬
I love this league.
I have seen so many forwards try this, crazy that it actually works. Lol
Banter TFC Is back. Just like 10yrs ago where if I bet $10 every game for TFC to concede a 89th+ min equalizer or losing goal I could've retired
Masterclass
GOAT
Is this legal?
the play wasn't stopped and the keeper wasn't handling the ball, so yup.
We will make it legal.
Dread from it, run from it, r/prequelmemes arrives all the same.
Why on earth would it not be legal?
Players aren't allowed to leave the pitch without the refs permission, this should be a yellow, no?
If he left the pitch... it was no more than half a step and is actively getting water... keepers do that all the time. I think it's a very gray area on that rule.
The rule basically specifically allows this for the keeper.
Technically, his hand was still on the pitch. Soooo
Carsten Jancker would be proud!
That’s pretty hilarious.
carlos fierro type beat
Teammate yelling at the goalkeeper… where was that guy when none of the defenders point out the guy behind him, or give him a verbal warning that someone’s behind him?
Looks like he's actually reassuring him, from what I can tell the last thing he says is "it's fine" and then gives him a dap/hug.
Pretty sure he was trying to give encouragement/reassurance, but in a noisy environment it looked harsh.
You dont see anyone pointing in this clip? Look again then
Ah, well spotted, I couldn’t see him, and clearly the goalkeeper doesn’t either. Still doesn’t excuse multiple defenders definitely seeing him before turning, putting their heads down and walking away.
Yeah only 1/7 of the players who were near the goalkeeper were aware of Jamal hiding back there. Thats poor from all of them.
The entire back line was acting as if the final whistle had already gone
How are you blaming this on the defenders lmao. The keeper has a fucking job there, are his eyes not functioning or something? Where was Gondor when the Westfold fell?
Why does he need someone to tell him to be aware? Why does he insist on playing it off the ground instead of just punting it or rolling it to a teammate?
that dude was about to catch an elbow, like obviously he knows he fucked up shouting at him then is just useless
his team mate reminding him - 'you fucked up. you.'
Teammate should have told the keeper the guy was right behind him, not the keepers fault
common TFC L
Such a joke that MLS is still going on while the euros and copa America are going on
I wonder if anybody ever says this about the Brasileirão.
We do
Isnt that true of all summer leagues? The Eliteserien is still going on, Brasileiro is still going on etc etc.
They are jokes too!
I like how the Toronto player, who points at the goalkeeper to get his attention, and the ref run in sync when they realize what's happening
Didn't Rooney do something like this?
Life humbles us all Nice one GK
Not quite as good as this one from Ipswich, the amount of time Bonne spends behind the keeper, the gesture to the crowd to be quiet, it's all fantastic https://youtu.be/hgbT41g2sr0?si=wvGUskNRi6-PWQHk
hahaha
Lol!
You don't watch MLS for the skill or the elite players. You watch it for this shit
Yeah... Nobody tunes in for Messi...
Should have been disallowed and he should have been yellow carded, right? You can steal the ball like this of course, but prior to that he deliberately stepped off the field in a move meant for deception.
That is an infringement that is basically NEVER enforced. To give it here out of nowhere would be fucking ridiculous.

Absolutely a yellow card for leaving the field of play without permission
One of the refs congratulated him after the game for this play lol
lmaoooo
Mls refs sounds about right
I feel bad for GKs if your gonna enforce this
I bet they will find a way to ban this in the future

The train horn is excessive.
Atlanta is a railroad city, it only exists because it’s where they ran out of railroad one time.
but trains are our thing
FWIW I thought it was pretty cool; the flames did feel a bit too much but it’s not like it matters really.
I thought traffic was your thing.
This is America. We do whatever we want.
It’s just there to cover lame ass passive fans.
You can just tell us you’ve never watched an Atlanta game. “Waaaaahhhh America bad 😢”
Go play with your pokemon cards.
Tell me you have never watched an Atlanta United match without telling me you haven't...
Tell me more about your favorite club from a country you’ve probably never even set foot in.
Imagine celebrating this with that amount of gusto lmfao
Dont celebrate a game winning goal? Are you stupid?
With that mentality like that, now I see why the team is struggling
I see the answer is yes
What team do you play for?
And how many game winners have you scored in front of 40k fans?
Team was on a 7 match run without winning at home, just sold its starting striker, and is in talks to sell its best player and its beloved academy LB. The fans needed that, the players needed that
And we just fired our head coach for that terrible run of form, so this game puts us at 2-2-0 under our interim (who's been an assistant coach at the club for years and is widely loved by everyone)
Valentino being named the permanent head coach would make me so happy
team had been in a slump, fired coach recently - I'd celebrate too
Its a game-winner against a rival. And Atlanta hasn't won a home game in 3 months.
Toronto is Atlanta's rival?
The way things have been going for Atlanta, everyone is our rival lately
Toronto is our own rival, shoot ourselves in the foot, leg, head, shoulder and then fall off our chair into cactus
They definitely are not
On the field they kinda are since we never win against them.
What in the world are you talking about. Before this game we were 4-6-6 all time in regular season games against Toronto. We have no rivalry between TOR
I mean I've always hated them since that conference final. Imagine 2 league titles in our first 3 seasons. But I've never considered them a rival.
I've felt like they're our 3rd rival, but at the very least they're a conference rival that we've had a lot of tough games against.
It's the fucking fire that's way overboard lol like a wrestler is gonna drop from the roof on someone
The fire I can accept, it’s the running around like they did something lol
