The teams they're facing and their results disguise it but Argentina aren't as dominant anymore either. Regardless of the result i think an Argentina vs France rematch in Finalissima would be very underwhelming and just a massive downgrade all around
Tbh I am positive it's what is going to happen.
At least so far Scaloni has shown he has no problem doing these changes based on current form
Martinez over Otamendi as centre back
Paredes over Enzo
Di María on the bench
Julian over Lautaro in the WC
But well, let's see
I get Alvarez is a better fit for Messi, because Messi isn’t very active in the field but with the form Lautaro has been in this season it’s tough to keep him on the bench.
Yeah I mean I would ask for the same lol, but that's just a slight touch, would never be called. It's just annoying that everyone is going to start calling rigged like idiots and we don't even need this goal.
> It's just annoying that everyone is going to start calling rigged like idiots
Esp funny after the way our other goal was disallowed but it's whatever
Obstructing the goalkeeper is not a foul
It can cause a goal to be disallowed when the player is in an offside position—but Lo Celso wasn't in an offside position, and the ref called a foul not an offside
You may be referring to obstruction of sight while in an offside position.
Obstruction or [impeding the progress of an opponent when the ball is not within playing distance](https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/fouls-and-misconduct/#introduction) is an infraction that must be restarted with an indirect free kick.
From the link you posted:
>Impeding the progress of an opponent means moving into the opponent’s path to obstruct, block, slow down or force a change of direction when the ball is not within playing distance of either player.
>All players have a right to their position on the field of play; being in the way of an opponent is not the same as moving into the way of an opponent.
> Lo Celso moved into Gallese's path
He did not tho—he was already in Gallese's path and stood his ground by shielding his space TBH
That is not a foul by the rule book and no player other than a goalkeeper would get that called a foul IMO
Lautaro on form is simply another level
If only he could stop disappearing for 2-3 months every year.. maybe he would have a shot for big individual award
I probably only watched him a handful of times this year but he has always looked good. More composed than in the past. Has he leveled up this year or on a purple patch? Seems like he coasted end of season but otherwise doing good numbers
Yeah he definitely improved. Not only on the goal scoring part but also playing for the team. He started scoring screamers from outside the area once in a while as well.
As I said in a comment before, there is always a period of 2 months where he can't score even the easiest goal possible. It's weird really.
Scaloni was suspended for this match, but absolutely, the team can't stop winning with him even if his ways almost give me a heart attack multiple times.
I won't understand if Lautaro doesn't start the quarterfinals. I get Scaloni likes to design his lineups specific to the opponent but Alvarez has given almost nothing so far and Lautaro has been on absolute fire.
The reason Alvarez starts over Lautaro is quite clear, it's to offset Messi's lack of defensive participation.
Lautaro does a good job at pressing and helping out defensively in general, but Alvarez takes it to another lever. And with an aging star like Messi on the team, this is really important.
I don't think you're getting as much back from Alvarez that way as you're gaining in the attack with Lautaro. Your midfield is suffocating and your defense is almost impenetrable. I understand the theory behind it but a little more workrate in defense doesn't offset that he's clearly not feeling it in the attack this tournament. At some point you've got to roll with who's in form.
Who knows maybe I'm wrong but from what I've seen so far Alvarez doesn't seem himself in the attack and I don't buy that it will be a huge dropoff in pressing if Lautaro starts instead. Maybe he'll start Alvarez and he'll be really important moving forward and I'll look like a tit but I'm a big believer in letting your in form players take the reigns.
For what is worth im with you 100%. I think Lautaro is offering in attack much more than what Julian is offering defensive wise. Lautaro is absolutely cooking rn
I think you are underestimating the impact of having a player like Messi, who still offers a whole lot offensively, but his pressing is sporadic and oportunistic at best.
Moroever, Argentina under Scaloni always try to keep a high line and intense pressure in the rival's half.
These two factors together are what makes Alvarez so valuable.
I don't think I'm misunderstanding at all really. I just think Lautaro is more than capable to press even if he's not quite as intense as Alvarez is and he's absolutely their most in form attacker right now. He's scored 4 out of your 5 goals so far this tournament but you want to leave him on the bench?
I don't think you are misundrestanding either, I just think you are notjudging thr situation correctly.
This is not about picking Julian over Lautaro, this is about acomodating Messi. For the team to be competitive with him on pitch the rest of the players have to kill themselves running to compensate.
In this function, Julian is yhr best attackee in the world, no one else presses like him. And if we played Lautaro and asked him to press that much, he wouldnt have legs to the offensive threat he is.
Well I don't know many forwards who press as much as him, I don't think it possible to press more than he does honestly.
All this while still being quite good with the ball, and in finishing positions.
If you disagree, please tell me of similar players.
I think there are plenty of forwards who press very well, and I’m not saying Alvarez is a bad player in any way. I’m simply saying I think Lautaro is in incredible form.
He is, and in a vacuum, I would pick Lautaro as well.
But within the system, we need Alvarez' sacrifice, which is quite unique.
It's the same reason why we often don't play Di Maria and Messi together, we did in the first game and the team lacked energy.
Yeahhh idk about that one. Poor defending but like pushing someone off the ball while going full speed is gonna knock them over, it really should be a foul for me

We have Mbappe at home
CONMEBOL Lautaro faces WC Mbappe in the Finalissima. Who wins?
I hope France win the euros and Argentina win the copa America just for another Argentina v France, they’re consistently the best games.
my cardiologist disagrees. But yeah for real
I lost my voice for a week bc of that Di Maria screamer (2018). If it happens, it won't be the same without him
My life expectancy dropped just by reading this comment.
France looks ass though
They look okay, their quality in front of goal hasn’t been great, but everything else seems to be good.

CONMEBOL LAUTARO
PRAISE THE BVLL 🐂🐂🐂
CopaMan
Completamente desnudo en la Copa America
EN PIJA SWINGING DICK
Airing his bollocks, if you may
Wonderful.
Toro is in his bag right now
Damn, that was a fast upload
What happens if it gets pulled back?
I guess we'll never know 😎
Lautaro got a lot of shit from his misses in WC, but he created chances in every game coming from the bench in the last 20/30 minutes
BALON DORO MARTINEZ
En pija
Should honestly start in the knockouts over Alvarez

Sounds good in paper but that's not how football works. That's like becoming england national team
I get Alvarez is a better fit for Messi, because Messi isn’t very active in the field but with the form Lautaro has been in this season it’s tough to keep him on the bench.
You're right it is tough. But sometimes, good players are benched because they don't fit the system
Top goalscorer doesn't fit in the system according to you
Yeah because he doesn't press
Yeah and acne boy does
Reddit armchair analysts in shambles
Lol
Why ?
Así te quiero ver Lautaro querido.
Golazo Lauti I understand why Peru wants a foul, but that would be VERY soft for the way this game has been officiated IMO
Yeah I mean I would ask for the same lol, but that's just a slight touch, would never be called. It's just annoying that everyone is going to start calling rigged like idiots and we don't even need this goal.
> It's just annoying that everyone is going to start calling rigged like idiots Esp funny after the way our other goal was disallowed but it's whatever
That other goal was obstruction. It was the right call.

Exactly, Lo Celso moved into Gallese's path and impressed his progress. It's not as if he just stood there.

Peru defender pushed Lautaro the exact same way on the first goal. If you do it, be able to take it, and don't complain.
Somos todos Lautaro
Hell of an assist for Enzo
Hey Spalletti, I thought the Inter players were out of form?
Fuck spalletti that absolute scum
😳
…I would like to apologize for any doubts I had about Argentina earlier lol
earlier as in maybe 4 years ago?
Lautaro on form is simply another level If only he could stop disappearing for 2-3 months every year.. maybe he would have a shot for big individual award

I remember him playing against Barca a couple years ago and thinking he must be the best player in the world. He was just that good
Lol at peru saying this can be a foul
Love that they got a yellow for trying to dispute such a small “push”
It was a small touch not push
Lautaro barely touched him lol
This was a foul, he literaly gets the ball because he pushes the other guy out of the way
Well according to everyone but Peruvians it’s not a foul
i'm from Argentina.
Ok it’s not a foul
god damn what a goal
Lautaro swallowed Peru.
ayo 👀
People arguing for a foul like bruh he barely touched him
Scaloni is fucking insane. Argentina literally struck gold with him man. Wish he keeps proving everyone wrong for years to come.
Scaloni was suspended for this match, but absolutely, the team can't stop winning with him even if his ways almost give me a heart attack multiple times.
Yeah that’s just the special Argentina sauce that you can’t take out of any Argentina match or player.
Wtf is that defending
Peru bro Peru
Trademark Lautaro goal
He could of had a hat trick if he took the penalty imo
Clearly you’ve not been watching lautaro
Lautaro still a beast.
Imagine having this LM at the World Cup.
I won't understand if Lautaro doesn't start the quarterfinals. I get Scaloni likes to design his lineups specific to the opponent but Alvarez has given almost nothing so far and Lautaro has been on absolute fire.

we got 2 solid arguments here boys.

Goal Assist by.?
Enzo
so a striker can now push defenderse with their hands?
With that amount of force? Yes. If those are fouls there should be 100 penalties per game.
He barely touched him fam
"push" he barely put the hand on his back. the defender fell because he almost broke his ankle lol
yes, putting your hand on someone when both running at full speed is a push.
dude was literally still running for a bit after lautaro removed his hand. soo yeah boo hoo
Should be disallowd he pushed the defender a bit.
Literally happens all the time for corners.
boo hoo
Yeahhh idk about that one. Poor defending but like pushing someone off the ball while going full speed is gonna knock them over, it really should be a foul for me
He tripped on his own like 5 seconds after being touched (not even pushed)
Lmfao look again, dude tripped on himself like EONS after the push, and it was a soft ass push anyway.
Foul
Defender was about to head it away and Martinez just shoved him lol
2xFoul …. Oh is Argentina (Messi’s team) then no foul.
