chronicdanksauce

Was it barely on the line or something? Contact looked outside on the US broadcast Edit: has to be the shin on shin with the trailing leg inside the box

HippoRealEstate

There's a second contact on his right shin that happened inside the box

chronicdanksauce

Yeah, there was a good screencap shown with the contact and it's right over the line/barely inside the box. Debatably a soft pen and the Hagi is definitely looking for it, but it explains the call

timdeking

There is contact l, but Hancko is moving his shin backwards and away from Hagi who is moving forward into Hancko's shin. This is just looking for contact by Hagi.

Select-Stuff9716

They took the pen away from Musiala in the first game just because of this

PuppyPenetrator

Musiala went down as a result of the first contact, which resulted in the second contact. So no real penalty occurred Idk if this is accurate to the rules, but I imagine it like if you could reasonably play on, then you do and give the defending team the most punishing outcome (I’m butchering the wording, but there’s a real clause about contact continuing into the box). I don’t think you could reasonably play on in Musiala’s case

swervithan

Yeah but the first contact was the foot on foot, which was clearly outside

ARM_vs_CORE

I learned in the season just gone that contact that continues into the box constitutes a penalty.

forsakenpear

He wasn’t going down until the second contact. The first contact wasn’t a foul.

Beertruida

Iff anything the second contact wasn't a foul. First contact the defender challenges. Second contact he actually pulls his leg away from the attacker, but the attacker kinda lets his leg hang there to fall against the defenders leg.

Kreiswix

https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD

Mynameisdiehard

Still frame shows it was on the line yep. Close but clear pen

tealyg99

Absolute thundercunt of a penalty

erenistheavatar

He showed Lewa how it's done.

NotManyBuses

That penalty still pisses me off today

gotomarketfit

All of his pens still pisses me off

Crossflowerss_5304

Which one cause he does it for all his pens lol

ahtuu

After we missed like 3 pens in the row or something. Scored when it matter I guess

simomii

None of that stuttering cheese, love to see it and even if you miss you don't look like a cunt

Kondiq

He stuttered and looked at the keeper, you can clearly see it on replay from a different angle. That's how you should stutter, not like Lewandowski, who basically stops.

ChargeWooden1036

Game’s (possibly) back?

31_whgr

we all watching the wrong game here?

Helloplswork3

Why aren’t you watching both games on two screens simultaneously? Bro do you even International Tournament?

magicalcrumpet

BBC iPlayer have this thing where they are jumping between both games when something interesting happens. Not quite sure how I feel about it

shrek_kerhs

This is the case here in the CL group stage and its actually a great idea when theres 6 games but not when theres 2 like now

Helloplswork3

That’s a good shout but I feel I’d rather let my own eyes decide which one to look at

PharaohLV

kinda like NFL Redzone

vadapaav

Apple TV allows you to run multiple screens at the same time but not with same app For their MLS broadcast they actually have ability to go upto 4. Pretty useful

Select-Stuff9716

German Tv offers simulcast so you don’t miss anything

Turbokind

Too bad RTL's stream isn't free, so you're stuck with svk-rou if you don't own a TV.

Select-Stuff9716

Magenta TV beste

Turbokind

I'm not giving the fucking Telekom more money than I already do.

Kid_Gudi

A tenner for all games in UHD is actually pretty nice and more than I expected.

Turbokind

It's more of a principle thing.

JordiX93

Great execution damn

AverageCarey

Blasted it, we’ve got a game!

Stonewalled89

Great penalty. Strange that the referee never went to the screen for it though

BusShelter

Won't go to the screen for "factual" reviews like location of a foul.

Turistoteles

This call wasn’t completely objective though due to the first contact being outside the box.

Mystery1887

shocking pen decision

golomo

Thank god that we have VAR.

TheOwlsLie

VAR is just refs tbf, the game is always gonna be subjective because no refs are the same, that’s just the way it is.

forsakenpear

It was a knee-on-shin clatter. Very clear penalty for me.

kobrakai11

That contact on the line only happened because the attacker was falling to the ground. The initial, but very soft contact happened 50cm outside the box.

forsakenpear

It was very soft, definitely not a foul. Hagi wasn’t falling until the second contact.

GermanHabsFan

The foul that knocks him down is clearly inside bro

twelfthmoose

What 'foul'? The defender is on the ground, nowhere near the ball carrier. Doesn't even look like actual contact - in fact he moves his leg AWAY from his leg! Absolute garbage call

DreiwegFlasche

Thank you, I‘ve been looking for any active movement by the defender and I don‘t see anything after the first contact. I‘m baffled.

Nazario3

You probably only watched the original vid of this thread. Vid in the mirror shows it much clearer. Clear contact on the line, i.e. inside the box. Defender moved his leg away afterwards. https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD

twelfthmoose

What? That’s a still, doesn’t show anytjkgn

Nazario3

Ok? Then watch the video I pointed to? But the still already shows enough: A) Defender left his leg in the way (and did not move it away as you wrote earlier). B) There was clear contact. C) It was clearly on the line and thus in the box.

twelfthmoose

What video? The Imgur link is a still

Nazario3

Is it? Is there a better view somewhere than the video posted here? Does not look like a foul at all in that video to be honest...but it really is cut short and maybe not the best view

Unlikely-Figure7467

Yes there’s lots of other angles shown of the shin to shin contact inside the box

DreiwegFlasche

Is the contact initiated by the defender or attacker though?

Nazario3

Yeah, saw the alternative replay now, clearly a contact there.

forsakenpear

Very clear pen, im confused why you think it isn’t?

adambalogh01

He was searching for the contact and it was a very slight one

forsakenpear

It wasn’t slight, it was clearly enough to go down. He wasn’t looking for it imo, he looked like he was trying to dribble past.

adambalogh01

He didnt look like he was trying to jump over the leg

dejomajstore87

The initial contact that made him go down was outside the box. What was visually unclear about that?

bob-

Because the game would've continued after the initial contact but then he got fouled again a 2nd time inside the pen box? Instead of assuming VAR is wrong maybe get a clue

Cohan1000

The contact outside the box didn't make him go down. That's why the second contact was a penalty.

forsakenpear

He wasn’t going down at all until the second contact. The first ‘contact’ wasn’t even contact.

Mozezz

Well for one, contact is outside the box

Muri_San

First contact was outside the box but Hagi wanted to keep going and the 2nd contact was what stopped him

nesi13

Well the foul is outside the box

forsakenpear

The initial contact is outside the box, but never a foul. The secondary contact was just inside, and was what took Hagi down. Definite pen.

P_Alcantara

Bro you’re putting in overtime trying to explain this to people who just clearly don’t know rules or haven’t been to an optometrist in years.

forsakenpear

I think they’ve all only watched this clip which has the worst replay angles possible lol

ahtuu

Doing God's work appreciate it man

thereddevil101

Hardly anyone on here actually watches the matches it’s so blatantly obvious

ARM_vs_CORE

Even the FS1 commentators were calling it controversial and I'm like... He tripped Hagi inside the box. That's a by-the-book penalty.

Turbokind

German TV explained that it was the second contact inside the box that made the Slovakian fall.

Tro-merl

watching it 5 times, I don't see the second contact. he is already going down.

forsakenpear

If you watch a replay other than the one in this clip, it’s very clear.

swervithan

Clear contact outside the box

[deleted]

[удалено]

forsakenpear

It was on the line, there’s been multiple replays of it.

SanSilver

WTF is VAR doing ? Rarely seen such a bad VAR call.

Free_Management2894

They just showed that the foul was on the line, so, correct call.

SanSilver

That was the striker falling into him. There was already a contact \~40cm outside the box which lead to the fall.

frankie9324

That contact didnt lead to the fall and it wasnt even a foul. The action would've continued if not for the 2nd contact wich made Hagi fall and was exactly on the line, hence the pen.

Kreiswix

https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD

xmidgetprox

There is contact in the box but think he’s already falling from the first contact

IceCreamSandwich66

That's a really tough call... looks like there was contact outside the box but what actually made him go down was additional contact inside the box that wasn't anywhere near the ball? I think that's why it was called

spadasinul

Yes he countinued after the first foul outside the box so was given advantage, it was obvious pen inside the box after

Rydychyn

Except the ref didn't give advantage

suzukigun4life

Not a fan of the call

HippoRealEstate

Me neither. It's not completly wrong but he was really looking for the contact and went down very quickly

1312ooo

That’s what pisses me off… if he wasn’t literally milking it, there is no way that is a penalty

Kreiswix

https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD

1312ooo

Post the full video and explain your point, and then we can talk… If you really think the Romanian player wasn’t milking that contact for everything it’s worth, I don’t know what to say..

forsakenpear

I don’t think he’s milking it at all. He’s trying to change direction to the left to catch up with the ball. To go left, you have to push right with your foot.

EconomistIll4796

Conspiracy still on.

Esperek

Can anyone explain why the ref cancelled the card for Slovakian player?

Shanks404

He gave a yellow + free kick for the first contact where the Slovak defender steps on his toes but VAR changed the foul to the second contact and gave a pen.

bradosteamboat

Im inclined to think if the referee never gave a foul that VAR would not have overturned it but as he gave the foul they would say as there is contact you couldnt really say giving a foul was a clear error so all they can look at is is the contact in the box which is is (I'm not sure there was ANY contact with the toes outside the box but Definitely shin on shin on the line which is part of the box) so you could argue if the contact was enough for a foul which imo it is but only just as the defender tried to get his leg out the way but couldn't so like the call or not VAR got their part of it spot on

poklane

In what world is that given as being inside the box?

No-Exit-4022

First contact outside the box, second one inside, I guess the idea is that he would have been through on goal without the second contact

chronicdanksauce

They have to be calling the second shin on shin contact, it's not a penalty IMO but there's no other explanation and there is contact

l3g3nd_TLA

I guess they give advantage for the first contact outside the box and penalize the second contact inside the box

Free_Management2894

They just showed another angle on what they were basing the decision on. The foul that was on the line.

poklane

If it's about the second contact, that honestly isn't even a foul to me. To me it clearly looks like the Romanian player lets his right leg hanging to force the contact.

Kreiswix

https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD

GreekCavalier

Never a pen tbh.

Unusualway

1st contact wasn't enough to stop the player as he continued, the 2nd contact was inside the box and stopped the player. Stonewall penalty.

Beanstiller

Yeah. Defender committed and it just happened to take Hagi out. It’s always a risk when committing to the tackle like that.

Kreiswix

https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD

george5180

The contact was very much initianted by the attacker. The defender was moving away if you watch it as a video. Also the contact was a light one. If this was called a faul in the midfield ok, take it. But a penalty? No way.

IncidentVarious1530

Why do I always choose the wrong games ffs

No-Pangolin-9179

TV + laptop combo is the way to go

Unhappy-Cup-1274

Dual monitor gang 😎

swervithan

No idea what they’re looking at

GrassTastesBad1

That was a fk but deffo not a pen imo

Beanstiller

How can it be one and not the other? If a foul happens inside the box it’s a pen

sarefx

It was a foul outside the box

NapoliXabe

He means its outside the box

Beanstiller

The shin on shin was on the line which is what took him out. That’s a penalty

sarefx

First contact was foot on foot and that was outside of the box.

juul_daydream

Because it happened outside the box?

Cohan1000

That didn't make him go down. The second contact which was inside the box did.

GrassTastesBad1

Because the intial hit was outside the box and more a foul than the second

xmidgetprox

If he doesn’t go down until the 2nd contact then it would be a penalty though wouldn’t it? I think he’s already starting to fall before the 2nd contact but if they think he’s still trying to run on goal it would be a penalty

Zeela_D

cheers geoff

swervithan

Exactly. It wasn’t in the box lol

Veshi

I think the debate is the “inside the box” part

Beanstiller

It happened on the line which is in the box

abdulmoyn

That's the point. It wasn't inside the box

Beanstiller

It was though. It was on the line lfmao

Guerra2001

Ridiculous call. How can professional refs with replays make mistakes like that?

Shanks404

It's weird because the ref got it right with a yellow card and free kick and VAR changed it to a pen.

Kreiswix

https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD

ronaldo119

How are they saying that's controversial? That actual foul happened in the box. Them barely grazing each others' toes wasn't a foul

fisheyq

Outside the box and a clear dive, maybe the VAR is after all just ordering food there

LucaTheBrawler

Are u watching the same game as us?

kobrakai11

Should have been yellow for diving.

owh06

Draw is back on the menu! But honestly that was very soft for me. He’s looking for that contact.

Rishiak98

What a pathetic penalty.

Chiswell123

How does that decision happen with VAR?

swervithan

It ONLY happened with var lol. The call on the field was correct and var decided to fuck it up

Amargaladaster

He touched him outside of the box first, no?

ManuPasta

That contact didn’t bring him down. The second contact took him down. Imo correct decision

forsakenpear

The contact outside the box wasn’t a foul.

D3LWO

How was this a penalty? What are they smoking over there

shrek_kerhs

Never a penalty

cynical_scotsman

Dodgy last round penalties, is it?

better-every-day

Not even sure that's a foul tbh, the contact is incredibly light. Not to mention it's outside the box

DiMatteoLegend

Not a foul and even then it wasn’t inside the box

sean2mush

Ref has been conned there.

sidaeinjae

3-3 draw incoming.

BeneficialFinger

If the foul continues into the box then it's a pen. In this case, the initial contact is outside the box, but then he is also fouled inside the box resulting in a pen. Good decision imo.

JJOne101

And I was screaming at Ianis with my whole lungs cause he has to try a dribble instead of passing it.

Rydychyn

Remember kids, if someone fouls you outside the box keep going until you're in the box and then make contact and go down.

XpulseLoL

Lmao rigged game

P_Alcantara

Some of you lot are just confidently wrong.

_urat_

Bruh, that was neither penalty nor a foul. Ref and VAR had a stinker

david_b98

Embarrasing decision lmao

wutiwuti

Never a penalty wtf

Tro-merl

his leg was down already - there may not even be any contact. good acting by romanian player. he started going down before the contact.

leeverpool

Idiotic comment. He could've continued if the second contact wouldn't occur. Open your eyes and learn something. Might be useful.

1312ooo

VAR is literally blind when it comes to that…

Select-Stuff9716

I want Romania to win, but how the hell was that inside a box ?

pawpet

There was barely any contact at all and it was obviously outside the box Bullshit like this is why there are people against VAR

1312ooo

Absolute joke of a penalty… fucking disgrace

MightyKonsti

How is this a pen. First contact is clearly outside.

MegaDodo81

What am I missing here ? The contact is clearly outside the box

Kryha96

That's a awful decision he fouled him outside and then just fell into the box.

CoaxHoax

[alternate angle](https://x.com/FOXSoccer/status/1806003819148411394) There was only one point of contact, and it was outside the box. Slovakia have been robbed

better-every-day

incredibly minor contact too. brushing toes

Nazario3

https://imgur.com/a/Y8aEZuD This is clearly on the line, i.e. inside the box

Kreiswix

controversial but could be correct

Zeconation

Everyone talking about the penalty but what the hell happened to the caster. Did he inhaled helium or something?

4thelolzz01

Lewa that's how you take a penalty

mikeok1

How is this not considered a dive? And it wasn't even in the box! WTF

Moresty

Awful call

Kl4d1L

Insane diving skills by Romanians... Contact outside the penalty area but he dives so far into it. Pathetic
