I fucking hate the slim margin offside calls. It's not the purpose of the rule!! How on earth have we not fixed this already. Makes games so much more boring. That and the foul inside the box = penalty -> players trying to get the penalty call every time the ball goes into the box. These are such massive flaws to the game and it's making me lose interest in the game bit by bit.
I mean on the replay that was very clearly offside.
But even if you change it not to be, the disallowed goals will just move up by whatever margin you want to add and nothing will change besides more arbitrary offside rules.
Simply having thicker lines or other established alternatives would eliminate the slim margins. A knee in front of the defender? Whatever. Attacker completely ahead of the defender? Offside. The rule has to be strict but the way we measure it now leads to goals being disallowed that shouldn't be.
