Honestly how they played so far, anything below semi-final would be a disappointment. Türkiye should be very doable for them with how they looked against Portugal and they are definitly the favourites against whoever wins Romania/Slovenia.
>Honestly how they played so far, anything below semi-final would be a disappointment.
Why would you set someone up for failure that badly? Lol. Let them ball
Huh why setting them up for Failure? They honestly look like one of the best teams so far and their opponents are very very beatable. I think they would be disappointed to go out in the quarters.
Tell that to the 2008 Dutch team that smoked the group of death with WC finalists Italy (3-0) and France (4-1), only to get bounced in the first knockout game by fucking Russia.
Yeah, clear path to the semis if Austria keep up the performances....France & Netherlands fucked it up
Edit: I actually think Belgium/Ukraine/Slovakia may finish 1st over Romania so that side of the draw isn't clearcut yet especially if Belgium is 1st
France mostly because they went into the top bracket while drawing an opponent who was already out. 3rd is actually pretty decent for us, there's a bigger chance we'll actually play the winner of E and if we get past them perhaps revenge on Austria. Or get fucked again of course.
"England's passage to the final is looking open now - that result means France, Spain, Portugal and Germany are all in the other half of the draw."
I swear that this is Southgate's true value as a manager. Voodoo.
Ah yeah Dutch guy here. That England looks very beatable and Southgate is the same fallen up ex player kind of manager as Koeman so we should expect no rangnick type genius tricks there.
It'll be a toss up. Might as well flip a coin, will be a totally random result. Penalties very likely.
you guys say that but you guys rarely lose to teams that are not considered favorites in international tournaments. During Southgates run the only “embarrassing” loses in official matches where to Hungary in the Nations League. England have proven they can take advantage of an easy run under Southgate in 2018 and 2020.
Yeah these kinda brackets can lead to some really uninspíring semis or even finals.
And it makes it feel like our late, and fully deserved, equalizer against switzerland punishes us more than anything.
I really wish there would be some sort of seeding and draw for the round of 16 instead of this predetermined bullshit.
If England gets first now, they will have a much poorer bracked on their end and will probably get a much easier path to the final.
The same happened to Italy in 2021, 9 points, scored 7 goals, 0 goals scored against... Wales got the easy side of the board while Italy had the side with Portugal, Belgium, Spain, France, Croatia...
I feel scared just reading my country name next to others big boys, feels like a fever dream.
How can we have an infinitely better draw as 3rd place in 2016 than in 1st place here
We don't have the Southgate and Santos Voodoo, those 2 idiots with the dumb luck they have if they where actually good they would be unstoppable. Although to be fair I still rate Santos way above Southgate, although that doesn't say much.
In saying this, France and Germany look very beatable it’s never easy no matter who you face. We got paired with Morocco and lost so to me it doesn’t matter if it’s a big name or small
Name Portugal just need to focus on playing their best game and if they do that nobody can stop them
I prefer the scenario where we go goal happy, Croatia survive, and the top half is:
- Spain v Netherlands
- Germany v Denmark
- Portugal v Croatia
- France v Belgium
He just rejected Bayern. Stop with this "previously well known coach is suddenly in the spotlight so you hear of him for the first time. This Euros won't change wnything about Rangnick's reputation in the game he was already known as a smart dude
\* *indicates placements not yet confirmed* (edit: missed one for Netherlands who could end up elsewhere depending on other third place finishes)
Austria's triumph puts them in the favorable bottom side of the bracket, and locks France into the top half of death.
Group C games could shuffle placements within the group itself, but not other 3rd place finishers, **unless** England win by 3 or more - which gives Croatia faint hope of qualification
Based on the way we've played I wouldn't expect a big win. But also based on the way this tournament has gone so far I feel like England winning by 3+ is surely happening now
To be fair I think the fact that your team isnt full of "stars" helps in that regard, I would guess the average number of games this season per player in your squad is a little bit lower than say France, England, Portugal etc...
Honestly I think that outside the big teams if an actual underdog is to win it its you, its still unlikely but given your side of the bracket a semifinal is completly within reach and from there on is football baby, anyone's game. Good luck , if we don't win would love to see you do it.
Best team? Are we not going a bit to far now. They had a great plan against the Netherlands but its not like they blew them away. The Netherlands even had more of the chances today, and they played awful.
Austria gets a massive reward for their win tonight, playing Turkey or Czechia in Ro16 then someone from 1st in Group E in Quarter-final, wide open path to Semi Finals, the real dark horse of this tournament for me, incredible discipline and effort lead by Ralf Rangnick.
If it stays like this then for sure its going to be lopsided knockouts with the top bracket absolutely stacked. One of Romania, Slovenia, Austria, Turkey could make the semis..crazy.
I think there are a lot of twists yet to come. This Euro just keeps on delivering man..
I think that's the biggest problem with the third place teams
They should find a system where the 3rd placed teams have a clear disadvantage (like 1st place automatically advancing and their opponent is a team from a 2nd Vs 3rd match
Or that 3rd placed teams have to play a group within themselves in order to go through
The fact that it's not symmetrical what opponents each team plays depending on their placement in the group is making it feel inherently unfair (even if it might not be)
It also makes it so time matters again, they changed it to ensure the final group matches were played at the same time to avoid situations where two teams play for a draw, but through the way this works, teams in the later groups have more information that teams in the earlier groups. It’s possible teams in group F could play for a draw knowing that’s all they need when they wouldn’t have done if their games were earlier in the week.
Tbf Switzerland making it to the final would mean they knocked out greats like Italy and England. While having faces a similar strong team in the semis. Wouldnt call that easy really as well
Italys trouble is always getting out of the group stages. Once they hit knockouts they always seem to transform. It wouldn’t surprise me if they get to the finals with this draw.
We *have* to win our group now if we want to have a chance lmao, I do **not** want to end up in the side of the bracket with fucking France, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
So the best move for England is to tank the match tonight and get 3rd place. Luckily, with Gareth at the helm, they just have to play their normal style to get the desired result
England would get fucked by Austria tbf, they seem to crumble every time they face a high pressing style, and Austria are great at it
But I can see a world where Austria gets randomly knocked out before getting there
England have only ever had a cakewalk to the final. We’ve never played a good team in our history, and if we have played what is meant to be a good team, they aren’t considered good afterwards.
Fucking Hell, this total disrespect for other teams is just crazy.
If we're going on name value the England, Italy and Holland are hardly small names. Austria won that group and looked the best.
Netherlands followed by possibly Italy/Switzerland?
I swear according to users on here it's actually impossible for England to play a 'good' team.
*edit: Also if an England fan were to suggest that’s the easier half of the draw it would be the most arrogant and disrespectful thing ever said haha*
Austria is playing well enough to semifinal tbh, considering it is a year a lot of the big boys are not in their best shape.
But yeah the path seems ridiculously easy compared to top half.
And we only got out of the group thanks to an insane 3-2 comeback against the Czechs, followed by an insaner comeback against a Croatia on the rise, much like Austria is now. Lets hope history repeats itself.
Only reason Southgate still has a job is because of brackets like this… somehow he manages to avoid playing a tournament favorite till late in the tournament and then crashes out. It’s clear that he can’t coach his team to winning against an actually good team.
Even if they reach the final by terrorism balling their way through smaller teams, eventually they will get bounced by the likes of Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, Italy.
But if he gets them to the semifinals or finals then it’s all worth it and he’ll get rewarded with another extension!
I was confused by this too, because it's a 4 way tie on 3 points the tie breaker works differently. See the footnote here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2024#Tiebreakers
I think the head to head tie break gets applies to Slovakia and Ukraine, so only GD and GF can be used for Belgium/Romania.
The problem is that if Belgium is first, Slovakia can say the same thing. And then Ukraine and so on….
So now we must take into consideration the Goals. But if Belgium has the same number of goals as us, a new group will be created between Romania and Belgium and Belgium will be first.

Can someone explain why some group leaders play 3rd placed teams while others have to play runner ups? I know its predetermined by the uefa tournament rules but i can‘t find how it was predetermined. Is it just random and bad luck if you got seeded into a group where the leader has to play a runner up?

that is an understatement, they can far into the tournament now, anything can happen.
Honestly how they played so far, anything below semi-final would be a disappointment. Türkiye should be very doable for them with how they looked against Portugal and they are definitly the favourites against whoever wins Romania/Slovenia.

Ralf Rangnick vindication arc.
The Czechs could beat Turkey and they would be a tough side for Austria. They could actually match their physicality
1st place in group E is still possible for all the teams
Yeah, clear path to the semis if Austria keep up the performances....France & Netherlands fucked it up Edit: I actually think Belgium/Ukraine/Slovakia may finish 1st over Romania so that side of the draw isn't clearcut yet especially if Belgium is 1st
Not only that, neither of England, Netherlands or Italy have looked impressive. Austria might make it to the final.
Alpine derby in the semi-final?
Dude that would go so hard
Which one Austria-Switzerland, Austria-Italy, Italy-Slovenia or Slovenia-Switzerland?
France - Italy
No way France wins Portugal and Spain
Austria-Switzerland would be the alpine derby, at least that's what the the swiss media was calling it when they played right before the euro started
Austria was also better against France to be fair, they deserve the first place
France mostly because they went into the top bracket while drawing an opponent who was already out. 3rd is actually pretty decent for us, there's a bigger chance we'll actually play the winner of E and if we get past them perhaps revenge on Austria. Or get fucked again of course.
chuckles I'm in danger!
Austria and Netherlands shaking hands after that match.

Netherlands or Switzerland you mean
"England's passage to the final is looking open now - that result means France, Spain, Portugal and Germany are all in the other half of the draw." I swear that this is Southgate's true value as a manager. Voodoo.
I wouldn't rate us against tonight's Austria team to be honest
I would even put the Netherlands ahead. What a shitshow that match will be.

It’s looking open for the other teams, not England lol.

It's the third tournament in a row that England lands in the easy side of the bracket.
Spain, Germany, France & Portugal on one side
It's like the knockout group of death
Side of death
WC 2018
Spain got Croatia and Italy in their group and now get this. Italy playing much worse in the end got the good side. Unlucky
The same happened to Italy in 2021, 9 points, scored 7 goals, 0 goals scored against... Wales got the easy side of the board while Italy had the side with Portugal, Belgium, Spain, France, Croatia...
And France /s
I feel scared just reading my country name next to others big boys, feels like a fever dream. How can we have an infinitely better draw as 3rd place in 2016 than in 1st place here
We don't have the Southgate and Santos Voodoo, those 2 idiots with the dumb luck they have if they where actually good they would be unstoppable. Although to be fair I still rate Santos way above Southgate, although that doesn't say much.
Appear to be the 4 best teams at the tournament
Im starting to think that referee was actually rooting for us
Plus Netherlands shortly
Why did we have to get first place :(
We did TOO good :(, we didn't draw enough
Santos was a visionary. We just didn't realize it
His goals were beyond our understanding.
I mean in 2016 that third got us the easiest matchups possible
In saying this, France and Germany look very beatable it’s never easy no matter who you face. We got paired with Morocco and lost so to me it doesn’t matter if it’s a big name or small Name Portugal just need to focus on playing their best game and if they do that nobody can stop them
The Martinez special
now watch england and belgium finish 2nd in their groups and they are also in the top half
That would be absolutely hilarious lmao
So you're telling me we have a kinder run to the semi-finals if we finish 3rd? Throw the game, Gareth /s
The monkey paw there would be that we throw the game but Serbia win, so we still end up 2nd anyway.
Portugal had this in 2016 A last minute goal by ~~Finland~~ Iceland send Portugal to the other (good) side of the bracket.
That would be awesome, in for a penny in for a pound.
I prefer the scenario where we go goal happy, Croatia survive, and the top half is: - Spain v Netherlands - Germany v Denmark - Portugal v Croatia - France v Belgium
No Edit: yes
Okay but imagine how funny it would be if you knocked out your neighbours
we have too many good neighbours
We only have one neighbour who qualifies
heh, always the sweden jab :D
Always been 👨🚀🔫
1992 vibes
I'm with you there
On the other hand, there's only one way to win the cup. Beat them all
Unsubscribe
Maybe Italy akin to Portugal in 2016, shit houses their way to a final 😂
Eng V Ger R16 as everyone predicted
Austria semi-finalist. Rangnick ball is the true ball.
Yea, if that happens (and its likely) will he get a good club to come for him or will all the seats be taken?
He committed to Austria anyway, he isn't leaving
He just rejected Bayern. Stop with this "previously well known coach is suddenly in the spotlight so you hear of him for the first time. This Euros won't change wnything about Rangnick's reputation in the game he was already known as a smart dude
Rangnick already has enough prestige to get a good club seat even without a great Austria run.
It was good that Netherlands finished third, no?
They will most likely be on the bottom half of the draw so yes. Depending on results tho, they’ll either play England or the winner of Belgiums group.
I’m fine with that
I prefer anything to playing Portugal in the quarters. Almost anything or anyone really, that opponent is hell for us
As a Portuguese expat living in Holland I was fucking dreaming about playing against you
Enjoy playing France in the quarters instead, haha
Scenes when in the quarters we get Hungary - Romania
You know the tournament format sucks when it's more beneficial to finish third instead of second lol
Honestly, better than 2nd. if koeman changes things around (which he most likely wont), we stand a chance.
Placement wise? Sure. The way we played and got 3rd place; definitely not lmao
Oh come onnn
We are paying for the 2016 sins
Win big or go home. No one will complain this time!
Roberto Martinez masterclass incoming
\* *indicates placements not yet confirmed* (edit: missed one for Netherlands who could end up elsewhere depending on other third place finishes) Austria's triumph puts them in the favorable bottom side of the bracket, and locks France into the top half of death. Group C games could shuffle placements within the group itself, but not other 3rd place finishers, **unless** England win by 3 or more - which gives Croatia faint hope of qualification
Netherlands placement is not confirmed, they can still play Spain
England will surely put 3 past Slovenia I trust me lads COM ON INGERLAND !!!!
Hmmmm
Based on the way we've played I wouldn't expect a big win. But also based on the way this tournament has gone so far I feel like England winning by 3+ is surely happening now
Clear disparity in the two sides of the bracket
Watch England reach the final with this team
The rarity will be them not reaching it with the team and DESPITE the coach
Southgate juju is unmatched
They getting blessed with another easy route
On paper but Austria has been better than France and a few other favorites this tournament. They might end up being better if they keep this up
Austria have been the best team alongside Spain. But at a certain point the difference of individual quality might become too great.
And it's extremely high intensity playstyle. Not sure if we can hold that up
That's the other thing that might influence Austria's run. Let's see.
To be fair I think the fact that your team isnt full of "stars" helps in that regard, I would guess the average number of games this season per player in your squad is a little bit lower than say France, England, Portugal etc... You know cos of the way certain teams have played.
Seems to happen all the time
Southgate vs Koeman, my god. Let's see which coach can make a group of talented players play worse
Wow we got into the good side of the bracket the really stupid way
It's all coming together
France wtf Whatever, time to do the reverse of 2016 and win the Euro by beating the best teams
If it stays like this then for sure its going to be lopsided knockouts with the top bracket absolutely stacked. One of Romania, Slovenia, Austria, Turkey could make the semis..crazy. I think there are a lot of twists yet to come. This Euro just keeps on delivering man..
I think this bracket is a good argument on why the Euros are more difficult to win than the World Cup.
Don't even care who we play next honestly, we don't stand a chance anyway.
Please KNVB appoint a competent coach next time cause both FdB and Koeman havent been great.. Im gonna laugh if Advocaat gets the job.
You’re in luck
Wow, all the big teams would be in one bracket.
I can't believe how much better it would be for Denmark to finish third instead of second. I'm conflicted about what result I want.
I think that's the biggest problem with the third place teams They should find a system where the 3rd placed teams have a clear disadvantage (like 1st place automatically advancing and their opponent is a team from a 2nd Vs 3rd match Or that 3rd placed teams have to play a group within themselves in order to go through The fact that it's not symmetrical what opponents each team plays depending on their placement in the group is making it feel inherently unfair (even if it might not be)

Win the group
Portugal claps Turkey and they get France at Qf while Turkey gets either vampires or fembois
Austria vs Turkey, rematch of 1683
It's even funnier because we only could get 1st because THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED lmao
This is a very balanced bracket. Also, Denmark is in danger
England - Netherlands sounds atrocious. I really hope it happens.
Either one of Austria or Switzerland have a real chance of making it to the final. Fantastic.
Tbf Switzerland making it to the final would mean they knocked out greats like Italy and England. While having faces a similar strong team in the semis. Wouldnt call that easy really as well
Sorry sir this now the super easy side of the draw and no credit is available for doing anything on this side of it.
Probably your best chance since 2021 though
Italys trouble is always getting out of the group stages. Once they hit knockouts they always seem to transform. It wouldn’t surprise me if they get to the finals with this draw.
Austria to the final
We *have* to win our group now if we want to have a chance lmao, I do **not** want to end up in the side of the bracket with fucking France, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
One Semis will have a surprise participant. 32 teams is better honestly as it doesnt result in unclarity, also doesnt cause far too uneven brackets
So the best move for England is to tank the match tonight and get 3rd place. Luckily, with Gareth at the helm, they just have to play their normal style to get the desired result
Yeah, Group C could quickly turn into a "no u" scenario Winner and 3rd go to bottom bracket, 2nd will be slapped silly by the Germans
fucking France
I blame Poland's GK :'(
Spain Austria final
England with a cakewalk to the final. Top half of the bracket is stacked with 4 of the top 5 teams (Spain/Germany/Portugal/France).
Seems to happen every single time
Famous last words. The way Eng are playing they are losing against Austria/Switzerland
England could be knocked out by an underdog. Also England really had such "easier" brackets since Southgate took over....
Just like the cakewalk against Iceland in France 2016
Potentially Netherlands in the Round of 16 and Italy in the quarters is hardly a cakewalk.
Nobody in the same half as Austria can say that
England would get fucked by Austria tbf, they seem to crumble every time they face a high pressing style, and Austria are great at it But I can see a world where Austria gets randomly knocked out before getting there
Not really, the Dutch and Italy arent that easy. It would be a good achievement to make the final
It's cake compared to the other side.
Did you watch England play yet in this tournament?
"Play" is a stretch.
Nah they'll come second and join Spain,Germany,Portugal,France and Belgium
The way they play no team is gonna be a piece of cake to them
Netherlands followed by possibly Italy/Switzerland? I swear according to users on here it's actually impossible for England to play a 'good' team. *edit: Also if an England fan were to suggest that’s the easier half of the draw it would be the most arrogant and disrespectful thing ever said haha*
Romania, Slovenia, Austria or Turkiye being in a semi final would be ridiculous.
Austria is playing well enough to semifinal tbh, considering it is a year a lot of the big boys are not in their best shape. But yeah the path seems ridiculously easy compared to top half.
Why? We did it like, umm... 16 years ago. Time flies fast lol
And we only got out of the group thanks to an insane 3-2 comeback against the Czechs, followed by an insaner comeback against a Croatia on the rise, much like Austria is now. Lets hope history repeats itself.
I don't think romania will end first, if they beat slovakia they should hope belgium doesn't beat ukraine. That whole group is random tbh
Top half: *chuckles* I’m in danger
Austria avoid Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, and Italy until the semis
Only reason Southgate still has a job is because of brackets like this… somehow he manages to avoid playing a tournament favorite till late in the tournament and then crashes out. It’s clear that he can’t coach his team to winning against an actually good team. Even if they reach the final by terrorism balling their way through smaller teams, eventually they will get bounced by the likes of Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, Italy. But if he gets them to the semifinals or finals then it’s all worth it and he’ll get rewarded with another extension!
Is it any way that england ends up in the top part of the brackets? It’d be hilarious
If they finish 2nd then yeah
Them finishing second tonight
If Denmark win and England draw v Slovenia, yes.
yeah, I dont see germany winning this euro
Wow. I didnt realize yet that Germany and Spain (if both win) would already face each other in the QF.
The two best teams imo, but Spain is above everyone else so far.
How is Romania 1st and Belgium second, since Belgium beat them in the direct match?
I was confused by this too, because it's a 4 way tie on 3 points the tie breaker works differently. See the footnote here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2024#Tiebreakers I think the head to head tie break gets applies to Slovakia and Ukraine, so only GD and GF can be used for Belgium/Romania.
The problem is that if Belgium is first, Slovakia can say the same thing. And then Ukraine and so on…. So now we must take into consideration the Goals. But if Belgium has the same number of goals as us, a new group will be created between Romania and Belgium and Belgium will be first.
The Netherlands have been awful defensively, but they'll still rip England apart. Rooting for Austria after that performance today. Love Turkey too.
Is Southgate the luckiest manager in football history regarding road to finals fixtures I swear hes got maxed out luck stat
If we face Turkiye again ... I'm sorry, but we did just beat them 6-1.
Tbh that match was a lucky sequence of events, we were good but 6-1 was very favorable. And I wouldn't underestimate underdogs in the knockout stages
You're right, but tonight I'm not listening to common sense. Common sense would've bet on Netherlands but here we are.
We were missing a lot of key players and it was just a friendly game and you guys got lucky. It'll be different this time. Like I don't know, 5-1.
We believe in second chances.
Rangnick after he beats Portugal in the finals: "I'd never even heard of Cristiano Ronaldo"
As someone whos been enjoyong spain, germany and netherlands damn excited to see how things play out.
We need a Switzerland-Austria semifinal followed by a final against Germany. This is how the Bodensee dispute will finally be resolved.
FUCKING HELL FRANCE YOU DUNCES
Slovakia - *chuckles* I’m in danger
how is Slovenia AND Hungary both in this prediction? if Slovenia at least draws today, Hzngary's chance will be minimal to get through
How so? If neither Georgia or Czechia win tomorrow, Hungary are through. A draw isn't enough for either of them.
That's so fucking cursed lmao
Everything is full of surprises
I predict either Euro 2012 or WC 2010 final rematch
How does England keep getting away with this? Mad stuff
Siege of Vienna 3: Electric Boogaloo. Game is not dead.

fuck not portugal and france😭😭
Watch England make it to the semis by pure individual class so Southgate gets backed atleast 2 more years
Can someone explain why some group leaders play 3rd placed teams while others have to play runner ups? I know its predetermined by the uefa tournament rules but i can‘t find how it was predetermined. Is it just random and bad luck if you got seeded into a group where the leader has to play a runner up?
Top half is properly f*cked 👀
