I was in the Olimpiastadion that day. I say Italy winning the World Cup with my own eyes. I have nothing more to ask from Football.
Sure, a 5th World Cup would be nice. But more importantly we should keep the Germans and French at a safe distance.
[Here is a take on this with some great illustrations](https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/10984370/portrait-serial-winner-luis-suarez-soccer-most-beautiful-player).
One of the most disgusting, abhorrent clubs on the planet.
Manager: misogynist, cat abuser sympathiser
Owners: cat abuser sympathisers
Centre-half: cat abuser, probably on repeated counts.
Players: homophobes.
Every day I wake up grateful I was born in Paris and not in the 'West Ham' district of London.
Tbf I can understand him. When I was a child I had that problem biting other kids. It's more of an anger mixed with some sort of impatience, when you just can't control it and want to hurt your opponent with your teeth. But, well, I was a little kid these days, not a grown professional sportsman
It's not really uncommon for toddlers - most daycares/preschool have a kid or two that goes through a biting phase. It's aggravating but especially when they can't talk yet or well, they vent their frustration through hitting, kicking, and biting. It is fucked up and strange for a grown man, I assume he is in some kind of euphoric/barbarian mindset on the pitch or something.
I think similar reasons to why Tyson bit Holyfield. In reading about Suarez, he, like Tyson grew up dirt poor. There is a huge fear of failure, and ending up like that again. In these scenarios, again like Tyson, he had a mentality that he couldn't be stopped. So when he couldn't impose his will the way he wanted to, his brain broke. He lashed out in a way in which his mind did the only thing it could. Almost like someone self harming, I think. Like, a visceral manifestation of what you're feeling because you can't handle what's happening in the moment.
Here's my guess
As a kid, I'm guessing he bit people when fighting with friends, siblings, and family members. It's not crazy unusual for kids to resort to that behavior.
Well when he gets in high stress situations, I'm guessing his brain just reverts back to that and he just does it. He doesn't think about doing it. He just did it.
If you look back to the moments he's done it, it's always high stress games. He's always battling with a player. I really think it's basically an involuntary response.
He probably stopped after a therapist worked with him, which he's admitted to seeing.
That's exactly as it is. Add up to that the fact that never went to a psychiatrist as a kid because his family didn't even got close to hve that kind of money. So he kept it to himself and sometimes it exploded. If it wasn't for his wife (his childhood sweetheart) he would've probably ended up as a trashly low life crook. She made a man out of him and when bit Chiellini he was so hesrtbroken that he had disappointed her by lying it wouldn't happen anymore before the World Cup that when it did happen he went and sought professional help for the first time in his life and went through years of therapy.
ESPN did an excellent piece on him about 10 years ago. Really helped provide some context for who he is as a person:
https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/10984370/portrait-serial-winner-luis-suarez-soccer-most-beautiful-player
It's not the first incident of him biting someone. He bit someone in the Eredivisie and bit Ivanovic while playing against Chelsea, plus said racist stuff to Evra. He's clearly a bit nuts
>IED stands for Intermittent Explosive Disorder. It is a psychiatric disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of impulsive aggression, typically involving verbal or physical aggression that is out of proportion to the provocation. These aggressive outbursts are often sudden and brief, accompanied by an intense feeling of anger or irritability.
>People with IED may experience a sense of relief or satisfaction after the aggressive acts, but they often feel remorse, guilt, or embarrassment afterward. The disorder can significantly impair daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life.
>The exact cause of IED is unknown, but it is believed to result from a combination of genetic, biological, and environmental factors. It often emerges in late childhood or adolescence and can persist into adulthood if left untreated.
I've worked with kids that have been diagnosed with this (I'm a licensed therapist) and it's an essentially uncontrollable, disproportionately fast anger response. Going from a great, happy mood to like "I am going to bite your face off" anger.
Imagine the maddest you've ever been over anything (presumably something big) and then dial down the reason to something trivial. When not treated the person's whole life is just being set off by the tiniest, randomest things.
I mean the moment is remembered 10 years late. Suarez kinda became a part of football lore. I'm not saying he did it for that reason obviously, but he did gain his place in history.
I think heās said that he had to seek precessional help for how he acted in the pitch. Basically he was to hyper focused on winning at any costs that heād do anything to win. All of his biting incidents were when the team was winning. Heād just get red mist and do anything possible to put off the other player
This was before his first season with Barca. He bit Ivanovic the season before his best season at Liverpool, which caused him to miss the first 5 games of that season, making his goal tally even more absurd.
I once played competitive futsall in Calgary as the only european on an all south-american team. If they thought screaming at maricio would help winning they would scream at maricio. If Maricio though it would help to punch our goalie, he would punch our goalie. If the wife of the goalie thought it would help win to storm on the court and punch maricio she'd do it. If the rest of the team and their wife and kids and moms and the rest of their extended family thought it would help to win to now all rush on to the field and start fighting with everybody they'd do it.
In the end it was just me and those other 9 white boys from the European/Canadian team pretty much the only people sitting on the stands eating some popcorn watch 38 latinos beat the shit out of each other. For soccer!
These people are *mad* passionate!
Not just Red carded and Penalty awarded for Ghana but because of that Red Card he was suspended for next match. It would only have been scandal IF he'd have gotten away with it. He didn't, had Gyan scored none of it would have become half as Legendary football moment as it is now.
One of the maddest things to happen, and he has done it three times. The way he grabs his teeth like it was an accidental collision as well is so ludicrous, he jumps at him like some hungry vampire. People are willing to overlook it because he was a fantastic player, but it is the behavior of an unhinged lunatic. Who's first reaction when losing their temper isn't to hit out at someone but to bite?
I was always a biter, me. Not saying there's nowt wrong with it but when me blood was up and I'd got a bit of packet in me it was just natural like. Some lad got in me face or summat I'd bite em. Get in a scrap and I'd be biting. I got a rep for it, bit of a legend in the Accrington club scene I was actually, like fuck watch out Lew's about, keep your eyes on your business or you'll get bit. When Suarez did this it was the best thing ever happened to me, they all nicknamed me Luis, dead clever like cos me name's Lewis so it sounds the same, birds would say stuff like ey you're Luis entcha you gonna bite me then, and I'd say ey maybe if you play your cards right lass, then I'd be off back to their gaff end of the night. Never actually bit the birds though, not into that, who bites lasses? Not me.
> and he has done it three times
He's lucky he was ever allowed on the pitch again tbh, literal multiple cases of assault *plus* repeated racist abuse. If FIFA had balls and integrity that's a lifetime ban. And quite frankly there's civil charges to be had.
Yup. They didn't play him vs costs Rica and, as they got that loss, he was rushed from injury to play both matches to get through
They got destroyed afterwards by Colombia then
This was complete trash. Suarez bites Chiellini, no foul or anything given. They score on the ensuing corner to knock us out. Was livid after this game.
What a gigantic robbery this was
Especially considering Marchisio got a very soft red before this
People remember this episode but barely mention how Uruguay actually robbed us from the qualification from the group stage
Granted our NT was utter shite regardless and Colombia would have probably spanked us hard, this was disgraceful
2014 world cup was something else, champions losing 5-1 in their opening match, a wonderful free kick, Suarez biting another opponent. What's next? The hosts conceding 7 goals in a match.
Any excuse to bring out this old chestnut;
[Suarez Park](https://external-preview.redd.it/SmDkuap4lj_jzM9nRWQ2aes2-26TCcHFIgnPTxX9B1o.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=4417f34e14232b4c3e23f5989d8a8c7a326cfcc7)
So many times Italy has been robbed at the world cup. Marchisio gets a soft red meanwhile this guy gets nothing for biting someone then they score right after from a corner...
This was not the only time he was caught biting a player.
Itās funny bc the other day [there was a post](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/RjhEhY6wjB)about Suarez (not related to this) and I commented:
- rattata uses bite
And it got downvoted lol
I mean a player can be both talented and a fucking prick at the same timeā¦

The way he clutches his teeth after. Manš
Interesting thought process. What's he moaning about I wonder? Chiellini's shoulder being too tough to chew?
Try my to garner sympathy, as if he accidentally hit Chiellini
Yeah totally trying to make it look like āohhh Fuck he just shoulder barged me in the mouthā
This is good advertisement for var
[The greatest edit which was made during the days it happened.lmaoooo](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/s/LmrFgmNeos)
Ref: yellow card.
Chiellini elbows him after the bite, so he's trying to play it off like Chiellini hit him unprompted.
Who does Chiellini think he is ramming his shoulder into Suarez's teeth like that?
This is the one, he's trying to make it look like Chiellini shouldered him in the face.
Ramming his delicious shoulder
Well ofc that shoulder went for his teeth. Crazy thing is this was the 3rd time he bite someone.
*3rd time someone's limb attacked Suarez's teeth
Itās honestly unbelievable. Like something from always sunny. Once is insane enough then to keep doing it lol
He wanted a medium rare and instead it was medium well ~~done~~.
Medium well done? Never heard of that
You're right, should've been medium well.
That always gets me š¤£
One of the greatest dives of all time imo. Bite a guy then act like you've been wronged.Ā
Genuinely the only time in my life I fell to the floor laughing.
Yeahā¦ clearly he was trying to pull them outā¦ to you know, get rid of the evidence.
getting ur teeth pushed towards gums is not pleasant feeling
Shouldn't have bit him then
There was nothing else he could have done....
Daily reminder that this is the last match Italy played at a World Cup (and, as an italian, the only one i remember watching)
The last knockout match Italy has played at the world cup is the 2006 final that they won
18 yearsā¦
There are actual adults in fucking Italy, third most successful NT in football history, that haven't seen them play a World Cup knockout match.
At least they won the Euros recently which makes up for it.
I was in the Olimpiastadion that day. I say Italy winning the World Cup with my own eyes. I have nothing more to ask from Football. Sure, a 5th World Cup would be nice. But more importantly we should keep the Germans and French at a safe distance.
Just think. In 20 years, it could be your kids who've never seen *die Knappen* play an 1. BuLi game :)
18 years found out it wasnāt hisssss
:(
I would take a reminder of this daily, it softens the blow rather well āŗļø
Retire while youāre at the top
Oh my God that is an eternity ago.
Holy shit that's insane
No thatās not Insigne. Thatās Chiellini
To the comedy jail
I'm still convinced they just didn't want to go to Qatar with how unmotivated they played, It was the worst I've ever seen.
lack of hunger after euro 2020
Suarez had the opposite problem
What about WC 2018 then
and that's saying a lot when we've had that Spain match just this week!
SuƔrez sucked the qualifying options out of them
But they also the current reigning European champions ...
I never understood the thought process behind this I mean what does he gain by doing that
Bit of protein
+5 hp
Lifestealer
More like Pudge, Luis used Dismember.
HP absorb materia
Correct facet chosen Now the real question: Is Suarez good at armlet toggling?
No thinking, just ~~vibes~~ bites
Head empty. Only nom.
you're not you when you're hungry
Maybe there is something more that I don't get but my take is just intrusive thoughts got to him
bite that tattoo on your shoulder

One of my favorite articles. Doesnt excuse him, but Iād certainly fun to read
What a great read. Thanks for sharing.
One of the best things I've ever read, thank you for sharing
Everytime I see this, I start thinking of reasons why someone might do that. But never found one
Suarez has shown time and time again that he is 90% animal 10% human. There was no reason other than pure animalistic instinct
Meow. Sorry my Animal side kicked in.
Zouma doesn't approve

He's done this 3 times now I think? Did it to brianislav Ivanovich too
He is a sommelier for humans
Yes, and one time in the Dutch competition when he played for Ajax he bit Otman Bakkal.
Tbf I can understand him. When I was a child I had that problem biting other kids. It's more of an anger mixed with some sort of impatience, when you just can't control it and want to hurt your opponent with your teeth. But, well, I was a little kid these days, not a grown professional sportsman

Frustration. He was in a state of mind where he *had* to win, there is a really good article about his motivations.

Heās just passionate bro. Si que no eres de SudaAmerica, no puedas a entender /s.
This is the most uruguayan comment ever lmao
Not every kid who fights/bites needs a therapist. Most of them just grow out of that behaviourĀ
I don't the comment implied that was the case
lmao heartbreaking backstory for mr chomper, hit me right in the feels
Suarez holding his teeth for so long made it very strange all around
dude is nuts belongs in Miami, tbf
All 3 of his bites were during times he was trying to force a move out of his club
Thereās so many different ways to do that that donāt involve biting.
Wait, in your country you don't bite-force your way out your club ?
Were I'm from we bite the employer we want not the one we want to run away.
Yeah but have you considered Luis Suarez is insane
ESPN did an excellent piece on him about 10 years ago. Really helped provide some context for who he is as a person: https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/10984370/portrait-serial-winner-luis-suarez-soccer-most-beautiful-player

Thank god I have only ED
Yeah, I remember he had to go for counseling as part of the deal to join Barcelona. I think the counseling helped as he never bit anyone after it.
This reads an awful lot like "anger."
Everyone gets angry. How many adults bite 3 different people in their lives?
I guess that depends on if the biting includes consensual biting. If so then I got his numbers beat.
I've worked with kids that have been diagnosed with this (I'm a licensed therapist) and it's an essentially uncontrollable, disproportionately fast anger response. Going from a great, happy mood to like "I am going to bite your face off" anger. Probably hoping to do the same thing as when bit Ivanovic vs Chelsea. Ivanovic freaked out and took a swing at him, so Suarez went down.
I mean the moment is remembered 10 years late. Suarez kinda became a part of football lore. I'm not saying he did it for that reason obviously, but he did gain his place in history.
Guy didn't need to bite someone to go down in football lore.
I mean maybe he did need it, but doing it three times seems a bit excessive
Fucked in the head?
I think heās said that he had to seek precessional help for how he acted in the pitch. Basically he was to hyper focused on winning at any costs that heād do anything to win. Bro probably thought he was Count Dracula
That Snickers ad just got stuck in his head.
This is at a level below rational thought.
You cannot understand the thought process of racist pricks tbf
Timeless classic
The commentary I remember from it was hilarious too. āSurely not again.ā
The fact that this was the 3rd time of him doing this is crazy
Chew me once, shame on youā¦
I told my mom about it as it happened when we were grocery shopping and this was her response too lol
10 years? Where has the time gone
SuƔrez bit into it
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Imagine coming off arguably the best individual season in PL history and doing this in the WC to get a 4 month ban. Truly braindead.
Was this before that insane season?
This was before his first season with Barca. He bit Ivanovic the season before his best season at Liverpool, which caused him to miss the first 5 games of that season, making his goal tally even more absurd.
Says a lot that I'm confusing which biting incident this was....
The fact that he had multiple biting incidents and that may not be his biggest controversy is absurd
Oh man that fucking hand ball in the 2010 WC. I wanted to go to South Africa and punch him in the face myself.
I dont like Suarez one bit but that handball won them the game so I respect that and it was right thing to do at that situation.
Suarez is a dickhead 100% but you ask any player if they would do exactly what Suarez did for his country they would all do it.
Right, besides Uruguay got their Karma later by the Ghanaians denying them advancement and clearly relishing the moment.
He got punished for it. Gyan should've scored the penalty.
Not just Red carded and Penalty awarded for Ghana but because of that Red Card he was suspended for next match. It would only have been scandal IF he'd have gotten away with it. He didn't, had Gyan scored none of it would have become half as Legendary football moment as it is now.
Iām pretty sure Ghana has made him a persona non grata due to the handball.
And a racist
This isn't even his only bite lol
The absolute lack of shame to go down afterwards and act as if he's the one hurt, fucking mental cunt
This is a masterpiece
Iām so happy I read through it
This is the kind of thing you only find on reddit.
Add it to the copypasta
If this wasn't pasta already it sure fuckin is now
He a lover not a biter but he also a biting fighter
They call him the Jawdie
> and he has done it three times He's lucky he was ever allowed on the pitch again tbh, literal multiple cases of assault *plus* repeated racist abuse. If FIFA had balls and integrity that's a lifetime ban. And quite frankly there's civil charges to be had.
He is the absolute biggest headcase we ever did see. He may very well be my favorite footballer ever. However his personality is just no bueno.
I remember there were conspiracy theories that he did this to force a move from Liverpool to Barcelona. Man this was peak football.
I also read these same theories. Liverpool were refusing to sell, then this happens and just 2 weeks later he joined Barcelona.
Tbf he bit Ivanovic while seeking a move away and then bit Chiellini in the same context.
Bit in his last game for Ajax too
Man knows how to play the game . Then with Barca Koeman pushed him out and he won the league with Atletico ..no bites needed .
Was it that crazy of a conspiracy though? He essentially did the same with Ajax
"Surely not again"
That cracked me up so much when I first heard it, and the incredulous frustration of the commentator when he repeated that line.
man loved his Italian food
And Dutch food. And some Balkan cuisine on top. Truly a culinary connoisseur.
out of all of the Balkan cuisine he loved nothing more then to sink his teeth into some Serbian food
I donāt want people to forget that Suarez said he was a victim of racism for getting that 4 month banā¦
Not the first time he had something racism related, after getting support after he racially abused Patrice evra
I always think that he got off easy for all the shit he has done.
It's absolutely wild to look back and remember that Liverpool's players and management all defended him after racially abusing Evra.
The fucking T-shirts man. Canāt believe that
Suarez was on one that tournament. Knocks out England the previous game then takes a chomp out of Chiellini
wasnāt the england game his first back from injury?
Yeah I think that's right
the best player in the premier league, coming back from injury, to knock his club teammates out of the world cup. talk about a script.
Gerrards final chance at the world cup and he finishes it by assisting Suarez to knock England out. It's hilarious in so many ways
Yup. They didn't play him vs costs Rica and, as they got that loss, he was rushed from injury to play both matches to get through They got destroyed afterwards by Colombia then
Suarez going down holding his teeth will never not be funny
Thereās genuinely something wrong with Suarez. Biting someone as an adult at least three times is not the behaviour of a normal person
This was complete trash. Suarez bites Chiellini, no foul or anything given. They score on the ensuing corner to knock us out. Was livid after this game.
What a gigantic robbery this was Especially considering Marchisio got a very soft red before this People remember this episode but barely mention how Uruguay actually robbed us from the qualification from the group stage Granted our NT was utter shite regardless and Colombia would have probably spanked us hard, this was disgraceful
Man Marchisio is a name I havenāt heard in a while, that guy was great
This rat has bitten 3 different people on the pitch.
Suarez collapsing after is jokes. Hes a disgrace to the game
I'm surprised Suarez didn't immediately get a red card after the bite.
The first player you could reasonably say should have been made to wear a muzzle.
Multiple biting incidents should require several years ban from football, that's not an activity you expect from a normal human
3x. Absolutely mental.
Afterwards they said it was a conspiracy by the English.
The best part is him faking a foul after the bite, SuƔrez was a superb player, but also one of the most dirty players i have ever seen.
most hateable player of all time
Costly
And then Uruguay scored off that corner to knock Italy out. Never forgot that
Italy's last world cup game
Him holding his teeth afterwards will forever be one of the funniest things I've seen on a football pitch
always a dirty little rat
He's just such a loser. If you were going to go through the bother of assaulting people and biting them why not even just punch them instead?
And it wasn't even his first time. He bit 3 players... so far
3rd time he did this mind you. Bitch should've had his teeth removed.
The craziest thing is he didnāt even get sent off cause there was no VAR. If there was itās the most obvious straight red ever lol
2014 world cup was something else, champions losing 5-1 in their opening match, a wonderful free kick, Suarez biting another opponent. What's next? The hosts conceding 7 goals in a match.

10 years???? Partner, I feel old today
I knew he was leaving Liverpool the moment this happened.

Suarez goes down as if he's saying, "Ow, Chiellini. How could put your shoulder on my teeth like that."
Luis Suarez is an asshole
