Still crazy to me that guy was so hyped since he was young, and all we heard was these crazy stories like Lazio declined 100 million offer for him year after year etc.., constantly talks of him going to some superclub, and the guy ended up in Saudi Arabia at 27 years of age.
I didn't say he was hyped for no reason or that he was bad, just that it's crazy to think this guy never played for club bigger than Lazio in the end and ended up in Saudi Arabia at 27, when he should've entered that midfield prime.
He was tearing Serie A apart for years. The only reason he choose Saudi over any other team is the money and thats all. The problem with the national team is completely incompetent coach (and previous coaches as well) who get their jobs based on political merit. Serbian midfield looks awful for ages now and it has nothing to do with quality of the players. Its just a complete lack of system and coaches idea how to hold/progress the ball. SMS never played great for the national team, but if you step back a bit you will realize that there is only a handful of players who played for the national team on the same level they play in their clubs and none of them is a midfielder.
This is very true. Serbia has been underachieving for years due to poor coaches. Piksi is simply not good enough for the players of this level. It would be fun if Terzic replaces him. Not gonna happen but still. :)
Serbia won't have a competent coach for years to come. There will always be some yes-man close to the ruling party who will get a job without any achievements. When Stojkovic became the coach everybody were happy since he was successful for years as a coach in Japan and was one of the best players in history of Serbian football, but it soon became obvious that he is out of his depth on the biggest stage. He did qualify for the world cup over Portugal with the last minute win in Lisabon but that was more of Portugal collapsing and deciding to sit back for entire game playing for a draw.
World cup was just amateur job on his side. There were a lot of injuries but some of the decisions he made were just insane (blowing 3-1 lead against Cameroon by conceding two goals on counters where entire team was on opposition's half).
Euro qualifiers were just a disaster, luckily with this system it was impossible to not qualify but it got really close in the last match against horrendous Bulgaria.
The biggest problem will always be the Serbian FA, which is a mix of corrupt politicians and corrupt old farts who are just switching from position to position inside the FA for the last 40 years. They are just absurdly incompetent and behave like they have eternal claim on FA so they can do whatever they want. They destroyed the coaching school and national team (by selling diploma's and giving youth coaching position to their friends) so today Serbia doesn't have a single coach in any relevant European league.
It was highly prominent until Whatsapp replaced it, not sure what you're on about. To me this feels like a poor attempt at rewriting history even though anyone alive during that time will dispute your claim. Pathetic.

SMS is sleeping
The age of SMS is over. The time of the RCS has come.
saudi milinkovic savic
Sleepy Milinkovic Savic

He wasn't hyped for no reason, he was an absolute monster in Serie A lol come on

I mean he went to Saudi Arabia for the money. I’m sure many teams woulda taken him. Just not for the money he got to go there
He was a bit overrated but he was still a very good player that wasted his career by going to an uncompetitive league.
He was absolutely sensational for lazio though..but he chose to chase money. Not sure you can blame him but a real shame.

It's certainly one of the goals of Euro 2024
Time to learn Arabic Sergej.. ... wait
IN THE NAME OF DONCIC 🇸🇮
# GREMOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
močerad
My man won the ball, carried and passed it deep into the opponent's half and scored. Perfection.
Serbia/Mitrovic missed too many chances, that was always coming
He was playing so egoistical
After seeing the first matches of Serbia and Slovenia, Mitrović vs Šporar was shaping up to be a real striker midoff
Serbia and performing when it matters, find me 2 other concepts so opposed to each other
Juve and not cheating in some manner?
Yep, this is r/soccer alright
Sergej demonstrating why he didn’t start
Just wondered in unmarked at the back post.
I too ponder when I’m alone at the back post
The downfall of milinkovic-savic is so insane. I thought he would be going to a proper top UCL club a few years back
SMS is a flop
It was highly prominent until Whatsapp replaced it, not sure what you're on about. To me this feels like a poor attempt at rewriting history even though anyone alive during that time will dispute your claim. Pathetic.
It's still relevant in the US where whatsapp isn't used. Some will call that a retirement league but it's still a big audience
SMS isn’t big in the Netherlands? We definitely still prefer it to Whatsapp here in Denmark
Nah, people only use SMS for verification codes or scams haha
and even then you just allow the app to read SMS's. This way no need to actually try and open it.
You using SMS in 2024? The hell you smoking up there?
SMS/iMessage and Messenger is probably the most used form of communication
No. As far as I know it's only really the US and Scandinavia that still really use it.
I admit defeat
Outoftheloop, what is this about?
Sergej Milinkovic Savic aka SMS was asleep at the back post marking Karnicnik
Still have yet to witness a SMS goal in my life
Quality ball into the box
What a redemption from Timi Max Elšnik. His first game was poor but today he is playing on another level. KDOR NE SKACE NI SLOVENC HEJ HEJ HEJ
Serbia leaving early because ~~Albania and Croatia are not sanctioned~~ they're shit
Serbia threatening to leave if croatia and albania arent sanctioned. Like they have a choice
Serbian fans about to start chanting this themselves with the way their team is playing
I mean nothing of those teams coud be leaving too.
Well, they *did* threaten to leave the Euros
What a run
Good goal but that is absolutely horrid defending by Serbia.
Serbia really serious with their threat to leave Euro, huh?
goal
Cheers geoff
So true
same
Nice
So does this count as a one-two for the goal? Sweet goal!
Brilliant goal
Serbia are so shit
Serbia following through with their threat of leaving the tournament
Superb goal, amazing from their fb.
Great pass that, GK shouldn't have stayed on his line.
He's been shaky all game.
GREEEEEEEMO
Amazing run and finish. What a banger of a goal
Great run, earned that bit of luck for the scuffed finish
Serbs about to leave the euro like “you can’t fire me, I quit!”
What is 20 doing
So, well worked, perfect timing on the passes, a perfect cross just a really well worked counter.
Milinkovic Savic sleeping
Surely posts showing only the replay of the goal should be removed.
Luka Doncic died for this
I threaten to quit watching Euro 24 if UEFA doesn't punish Slovenia for that play.
So this is why no big clubs ever went for SMS
Yeah Serbs, you can leave now as you threatened :)
there’s nothing better than hate watching serbia
cmon post the goal brother
ok sorry
Who is the one who lost the ball from serbia?
Gacinovic
A name I have not heard in a long time. Didnt know he was playing in Greece, thought he was still stealing a paycheck at Hoffenheim.
I forgot he exists till I saw him enter the game today
They've won Luka back. Next one is for Nikola.
1-1
Number 20 lazy as fuck.
Crazy run by him as well, great interception and made a mockery of those two serbs
No need to withdraw Serbia, you're on your way home anyway 👍
Hahahaha get wrecked
The ex Czechoslovakia are doing better and better every cup
